My husband and I sat down at 7:20pm tonight, ordered 2 beers, poutine and pretzel bites. When we ordered, we were told the Black IPA was kicked, yet we watched 2 black IPAs be poured and were served to guests that sat down after us...not a good look. Our beers then hit our table around 7:35pm (Cutbank IPA) and we were honestly underwhelmed. At 8:000pm, 40 mins after we sat down, we flagged down our server and told her that we were paying for our beers but were not paying for the food that never arrived, and we left. Having worked in restaurants for 8 years myself, French fries and cheese curds take 6-8 mins in the fryer at most, and even if the pretzels were being baked to order, there is no way it would take over 40 mins to hit our table. On a Saturday night, I feel like 7:20pm is pretty much after the 'dinner rush'. The table next to us who were seated before we sat down, also commented that everything "was taking forever". They also received their appetizers (poutine and pretzel bites) and their entrees before we ever got our food. Our server only came over one time between the time we ordered and 8:00pm when we had to flag her down to tell her we were leaving. The only thing our server told us was that "the kitchen was backed up" and that she was sorry it was taking so long." I know you've only been open for a few weeks and we wish you the best, but we will NOT be back.

I tried the Black Tide IPA and the Bridge Street Belgium Blonde. Both beers are strong offerings. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. The moonshine comes in fun flavors like apple pie, sweet tea, root beer, and a few more! They also have a water bowl out front and a beautiful sign on the window that says Dogs Welcome. Other locations include Jim Thorpe (dogs allowed inside) and Williamsport (dogs allowed outside).

I walked into Broad Street Brewing several weeks ago to check out the scene and grab some take-out…read morebeer after a visit to Sal's. I was disappointed to see they only had two of their flagship beers for takeout (Hey Yo NE IPA and Independence Lager) and no crowler canning machine for their tap list. They will fill your personal growler and the prices for their 16oz four packs were fair. $10 for their lager and $14 for their Hey Yo NE IPA. There are a lot of other breweries charging much higher prices and/or you're paying a flat amount for beers no matter what the style (which is ridiculous) .... I can understand a higher retail if it's a limited release or higher end brew. I made it a point to return and sit down inside the brewery to take it all in. My life plans landed me there on a Sunday, unfortunately Sal's next door is closed on Sundays, so a food truck parked outside or Durham Deli across the street had to do. The layout on the inside is inviting: picnic tables or bar seating are your options. They have board games to test your mind or keep your kids occupied and there were several TV's playing NFL games. The bartender was nice and a good conversation. He was very into their beers and gave great insight into: when they were tapped, what was coming down the pike and info/ingredients of current tapped brews. I didn't see much in the way of a menu with descriptions of each beer, but then again I didn't ask. I just looked at the tap list on their menu boards which noted the tap number (16 total), name of the beer, style, abv, price and the ounces of the pour. In my opinion the variety of beer styles they had would give any beer drinker several options to try. I sampled a few different styles: Belgian IPA 7%, Winter Warmer 9.4% and their American Pilsner 5.8%. I found them to be average to slightly above average and served in proper glassware. You can get flights, a single 5oz pour or in a glass that ranged from 10-20 ounce pours. The prices were between $5-$7 for a 10-20 oz. pour. The to-go cooler had four of their brews this time and also a second cooler had local Jericho Mountain Beef. You can buy several different styles of vacuum sealed meats that looked delicious. They also serve wine, seltzers and non-alcoholic beverages. The bathrooms were pretty big and clean. They welcomed a pretty big family with several kids so I'd say your safe to bring the fam!! I'm a fan of Broad Street Brewing, I think their prices are more than fair, the staff was nice, their beers are average to above average and true to the style (from what I've tried) and the building itself was clean, open and inviting. Inside, however, it was the crowd was sparse, save for two small groups competing in Harry Potter trivia, an event we hadn't realized was happening. After the first round, one of those tables gave up and left. That should have made the place quieter, but the trivia host's amplifier made sure it did not. Even from the far corner, it was nearly impossible to hold a conversation without shouting. It was as though someone had mistaken the volume knob for a test of strength. The bartender, to his great credit, was friendly and quick, the kind of person who makes you feel like maybe the night will work out after all. The beers themselves were fine. I tried the Pineapple Express milkshake IPA and the porter. Both were serviceable, neither was memorable. The brewery allows outside food, which is a small mercy. Being on Farnsworth, there are plenty of good places to bring something in from. They also sell simple snacks like chips and jerky, a practical touch that suits the space. Still, the whole experience left me puzzled. The place seems to want to be a neighborhood hub, but it can't decide whether to be a quiet refuge or a loud event hall. Empty yet loud, welcoming yet difficult to linger in. I wouldn't drive out of my way to return, but if a friend suggested meeting there, I'd go. I'd just hope the trivia host had the night off.
