People really need to lighten the F up! I say that based on most of the reviews. If you feel it's too expensive, don't go! The price is the price. It's not like they hide it and then spring it on you. Yes it's difficult to understand what's being said through the speakers. They need to address that. But the employees who walk through the cars answering questions make up for it. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. The ride through parts of New Hope was a delight. I had a cousin visiting from the West coast who is, "in to trains" like Sheldon Cooper! He was absolutely thrilled. We all loved how the people in the houses along the way waved to us. If you enjoy vintage trains and a nice ride it's great. The children that were on board all seemed to be having a great time. Next time my cousin visits he already requested that we return. So I'm updating my review. I returned (admittedly with great reluctance to be honest) to the New Hope Railroad. When I rode this train last year, it was truly an awful experience and thought it was ridiculously overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's still overpriced! But what has changed that I could see was a massive improvement in customer service with the workers we interacted with. I only returned since there was a ticketing snafu where somehow I got charged double. Last year, I tried calling to resolve it and despite all my efforts, they would not refund my money. With this in mind, I booked the Santa Train since I already had most of the train cost covered with last year's double booking from the credit that I had on file. My family and I came during Thanksgiving and I was initially really surprised by just how empty our car was. It was the last train of the night, but still, I would have thought a busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend would have been packed. It could also be that people like us have booked in the past, got frustrated and swore off coming back for good. I waiting to board the train, and was standing outside in the freezing cold weather and the worker told me I could hop on. I really really appreciated this, since on my last ride, I ended up standing outside while the train was in the station but they were super strict on the boarding time. Once inside the train, they were efficient in the boarding and making sure we were comfortable. Off we went, and we were entertained by singing and the band even requested songs by all those in the car. And other staff offered to take our family's photo. Santa came through and even gave the kids a little gift. Santa and Mrs. Clause spent plenty of time chatting with my kids and it was very nice to see. There is a small cart that is rolled out where you can purchase drinks including alcoholic beverages for the adults to add to your hot cocoa. They also had some snacks for purchase. A nice touch was the complimentary hot chocolate and baked cookies. My daughter got caught up in the excitement and spilled hot cocoa all over her lovely dress. Not only did the workers offer to help clean it up, but they even brought over a bottle of sparkling water for us to use along with a towel to clean her up. The woman helping out even got in and started scrubbing the dress with us. We had a nice dinner planned for after the ride and it was just a really nice gesture and my partner and I couldn't believe how much was improved from our previous experience. I'm willing to come back and give this place another shot. read more

"OVERCHARGE & UNDER-DELIVER" That's exactly what their business model is! Spent over $200 for two "first-class" tickets on their "Speakeasy Train" excursion (which we knew was overpriced) with friends. We got dressed up in period clothing and really looked forward to it. Started out with drinks and apps at Oldestone Steakhouse and then made our way to the train (fantastic place BTW). I was somewhat surprised to see gates at the entrance to the parking lot. I can see charging for parking for those using the lot due to its proximity to downtown New Hope, but to charge your patrons is gaudily avericious. More on this in a moment... Once on board, the drinks were pretty much watered down cocktails with a terrible presentation. The food was ok at best and the music provided was not period or even authentic - noisy and annoying. Would have much rather had some quiet ragtime playing overhead. The train pulls out of the station and creeps through the woods and after about 20-30 mins, stops, sits, and then reverses back to town. Hardly worth the $200, but we ignore it because we had fun with friends, but the whole experience is meretricious. The kick in the face is when you go to leave their parking lot! These scumbags charge $48 to park in their lot for two hours while patronizing their business! Your parking should be validated with your train ticket. After reading other reviews of this going on for the last year, shows they have NO problem settling in a business model designed to be in your pocket the entire time you are on their property! Greedy POS! Lesson learned. Will NEVER return to the NHRR and I will share my thoughts anytime I hear someone mention it! Absolute cash-grab ripoff! If you're going to rob people, at least have your employees all wear masks - make it authentic!! read more

Was super excited about the Speakeasy event and got tickets months ahead- but a lot was lacking and needs polish for the price point. The great stuff- the trains were in practically new condition, with curtains, tables, lamps, and cute giveaways. Their check in and serving system was very efficient, everyone knew their job and we barely went a few minutes in between a new bit of food or drink. The ride was completely smooth and exactly on time. Instructions for parking were very clear and easy to follow. They have bathrooms that were warm, clean, and well stocked. Not so great- you never get a person if you try to call. They only reserve in sections of 2 or 4 so the train showed sold out even though a handful of seats were empty due to odd numbered parties. The parking is convenient but the cost of $48 for two hours seems absolutely outrageous for a single car. The entertainment, banjo players and story tellers, were fun but uneven. They didn't play jazz or 20s ragtime or typical speakeasy tunes and often the volume was way too much for a dinner time chat. It seemed intrusive rather than a pleasant background. Some way to balance and pace things better is needed. Bad- The food bites were all delicious and served well, half the drinks were water. Some people complained and got replacements but when you're charging so much and the theme itself is Speakeasy this was a pretty big misstep. I'm not saying to avoid this- if you did this in the day so you could see the views for a non drinks focused event, you'll probably have a lovely time. Had a fun time on the train ride today, although this was a fall foliage trip, fall hasn't seemed to make its appearance yet. All staff were very nice, which made this ride wonderful. Wish it was a little longer. I think we will try the speakeasy train ride next. What a delightful surprise to find this train ride on a real steam train while out for lunch in New Hope. There are a few ticket types based on the car and experience you want to have. We opted for the open air car right behind the engine & we had an absolute blast! This is the funnest experience I have had in New Hope and the ride is so nice through the backwoods of Pennsylvania. The ride round trip is about an hour and there is so much to look at! We took many photos and videos and really want to come back in winter with some hot chocolate & a blanket. This activity is good for all ages and is a smooth ride with plenty of seating. I really enjoyed this whole experience & highly recommend it! read more

In town for the day because my son wanted to check it out and I thought the train experience would be cool. Overall it was fun to be on the train. The scenery was a little blah. Might be better in the fall when the leaves change. Didn't know what to expect but we pretty much saw peoples backyards for the most part. It was a little pricey at $50 a seat for the open air car. The big disappointment was the parking. Wasn't sure what the rate would be but turns out it was $14 an hour. A little steep for where we were I thought. Would I do it again? Sure but in the fall. Would I park there again? Only because it's convenient. I'm coming from NYC where $15 is for 15 minutes let alone an hour so as painful as it is. It is what it is. read more

We went here for the 2024 No Hope After Dark Halloween event. The train ride was nice and the platform was well done but the haunts and spooky acting had alot to be desired. Only three actors on the train and they weren't at all scary. In order to board you walk through a haunted clown maze which was slapped together. The train itself is nice and we enjoyed the ride. Both food and drink were incredibly expensive onboard and none of the wait staff seemed to know what was on the menu or how much it cost. The train arrives to a small field area with bonfires, vendors, and food carts. There's a second spooky maze that you can go through that had about 4 actors and wasn't really creepy either. Live music was the best part Riverside Odds were playing and while I've never heard their music before but they were great. Parking is outrageously expensive at $15/hr beating even NYC prices. I guess we were on the train that was filming this year's promo videos too because really there were more people with camera following us than scary actors and maybe that was the real horror story here. read more

This was supposed to be a fun train ride with my family. Pulled into the train station parking no ticket came out of the machine and no price listed anywhere for parking. When leaving no receipt. It took me going on my cc app to se so was charged $48! I parked there for 2.5 hours! What a scam! The train ride was supposed to be an hour long. It was less than an hour AND we had to sit there and wait 10 mins for another train to pass before we could go back. I definitely don't recommend. The staff on the train was pleasant. But don't recommend the pretzel I thought it would come hot it came out cold. read more

The whole experience was just great. Perfect for small kids. New Hope is a perfect little town to stroll, relax and sit down for coffee.

I bought tickets for my small group to take a short, scenic ride on the New Hope Railroad in the open car area. We all enjoyed the beautiful views, especially from the observation deck, which offered an unobstructed look at the scenery. While the ride was enjoyable, it would have been nice if it were a bit longer for the price. We were able to purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages during the trip, but it would have been better if they had been available earlier in the ride instead of closer to the end. Overall, it's a pleasant experience and a nice treat if you're in the area. read more

I have to agree with the low ratings for New Hope Railroad. What looks promising sitting in the in town station, and teases with possibilities as the locomotive starts up and slowly pulls the two passenger cars out of town and up the grade into views of open fields and woodlands, comes to an abrupt stop at a road crossing about a half mile out of town. There, it is announced that the halfway point has been reached, so take some photos and settle in for the return ride to Station Plaza, 10 minutes away. While the train cars are historic and all, it is really much to do about nothing. Kids eight and under love it and it makes their day. Those nine and over are bored and know they have been ripped off. They look cockeyed at their parents/grandparents as if to say, "What the f#%^ is this?! I spent a day in New Hope and chose to do the New Hope railroad. They have several times and types of train rides you can choose from. We just did the standard. The train itself is around 40-45 min. You get to see the more scenic side of New Hope. The tickets aren't exactly the cheapest and there is snacks and water you can get but that is also extra money. It's something cools to do as a family but I wouldn't do it again. read more

2.5 honest engine stars ... A very pretty and pretty relaxing train ride. Great Halloween decor all around the platform. Meh gift shop. Very clean bathrooms. We left right at our scheduled 2 p.m. reservation. The (Coach) cars were super clean and well maintained. The teeny powder room was okay - a pee trickle on the floor though! The check in process was easy - they actually just ask for your name - no ticket proof necessary, as stated. Our tour guide told us tidbits about Pennsylvania, surrounding farms, and houses. The actual ride was smooth and cozy (I actually fell asleep on my daughter!), but there was just something missing. Be prepared to pay out the a** for parking. The website stated $26, which was gross enough ... when we went to pay ... $44 !!! W T H ?!!!!!! My advice? Skip the trip! read more

We attended the Speakeasy Train ride on November 15th. Several things need improvement 1) The email we received about 2 days prior to the ride emphasized to be on time and that the 7:00pm time meant it is the departure time, not the arrival time. We stood in line for about 40 minutes after we checked in and did not board the train until 7:20pm. 2) we sat in fist class that included some lite bites and drinks. When I purchased the tickets there was no gluten free option, the selections all included gluten. Thankfully I don't seem to have issues with crab cakes so I was able to sample those. They were barely warm when they were served. 3)All the drinks were very watered down/bland. 4) the staff wasn't very interactive like the description of the ride suggested. 5) The banjo player was meh and felt the music wasn't geared towards the 1920's theme. 6)parking right next to the train station had no price listed. We learned upon exiting of the $50 charge for 2 hours when my husband inserted the credit card 7)overall it was a disappointment. We drove an hour and half and felt it was a huge let down. 8) A photo opportunity Setting would have been a nice thing to have. 9) overall it was a disappointment, especially when we dressed for the time period and didn't feel the experience made us feel like we traveled back into time like then excursion description implied. read more

My family of 3 (two adults & a 1.5 year old) were SO excited to see Santa & kick off the holiday season with a train ride in New Hope. This was not the experience we were going for. Let's see why: 1. Tickets for all of us in first class were $350 2. Public parking" at train station was $65. 3. Old train, NO high chair, no lock on bathroom door. 4. Not much to see & really nothing to do on the ride. Sure Santa & Ms Claus came around. But that was very brief. This was terrible. We paid way too much for a 35 min forward and 35 min backward trip past backyards. No scenery to speak of. We couldn't hear the commentary over the noise of the train and people. We sat at a table of 4 with a couple we didn't know, which was fine because all we did was comment on how disappointed we were. Our First class fare was outrageous at $130 for a pretzel, chips and a "free" drink. But the best part was the $48 parking bill we got when we left the parking lot. read more

I'm gonna be honest. It's overpriced. The staff is super nice and kind. It's a bit of a gimmick. You pay $60-$70 a person for a quick ride that shows pretty much nothing. Abusive practices by whoever is running this place. Parking ended up costing me $45 dollars for about 2 and a half hours. Parking lot next door would have been 4dollars. Price not readily visible and extremely misleading sign on entrance says "public parking" when it really a private parking that is obscenely overpriced. That's crazy. Skip this scam and their parking lot and go elsewhere. Even the valet at the nice Logan INN Hotel nearby is $20 dollars for the entire day!!! This place is a big SCAM!!! Abusive practices!!! If you come for the train, please park elsewhere. If not, you'll be hit with a huge parking fee after returning from the train ride. read more

I was concerned after reading some of the poor reviews of this railroad but it was a great experience. We chose a Sunday afternoon and the Santa experience (in late November). The train and station were nicely decorated and the staff very friendly. We were offered cocoa and cookies and enjoyed the Christmas singalong with the two strolling banjo players. Then Santa and Mrs Santa came by, talking and taking photos with all passengers regardless of age. They were patient and welcoming. The train ride itself was perfectly fine. Late November may not be the prettiest month to tour the woods of Bucks County but it was a lovely ride nevertheless. I believe the people who gave the railroad one or two stars were a) having a bad day or b) just disagreeable by nature. We had a blast and would definitely recommend the New Hope Railroad as a fun place to check out! read more

I enjoyed the train ride with my family. Our ride was at night so there was nothing to see outside, but we enjoyed our time.

Polar Express was WAY over priced for what you get. Babies were charged to ride. I have done the Polar Express in Williams, Arizona with my Phoenix grandkids and a lot cheaper! Their setup was amazing, the departure terminal was Santa's Village with plenty of activities for the kids, the train ride itself had light displays, and when we arrived at the North Pole, Santa was waiting in his sleigh and waved us in! A beautifully lit up North Pole. The crew danced in the aisles before serving hot chocolate and cookies, and there was lots of carols and caroling paper books to follow along. New Hope didn't come close. They had Mr and Mrs Claus, the gift bell, and one singer who jumped from car to car. Don't waste your money. You are paying way too much money for very little effort. But the kids didn't know any better, they liked it. So I give it a 2 star rating. read more

Leaf peeping train on Nov 3, 2024 for $168.00/couple? Really? November?? We saw plenty of leaves....all DEAD and on the ground! And what's with their no refund policy if cancelled? Our Nov 2nd was cancelled due to forest fires. Ok. We get that but a voucher to rebook but no refunds. If we hadn't been able to rebook for the next day, my lawyer would be contacting the stooges who run this shoddy ops. Knowing the area, we parked in Lambertville for $6.60 for 6 hours. Train lot is a huge ripoff. Stay away from both the lot AND the train, unless you hate your $$. read more

I arrived in New Hope and stumbled upon this Train ride that was leaving in 10 minutes. My bf and I decided to take the ride. We had to purchase the tickets through a kiosk and we're having a hard time. One of the conductors came over and helped us. It was a bit tricky because for that day it was sold out even though the train was pretty empty. The conductor helped us purchase 2 tickets for the next day and then we were able to use the ticket immediately. The cost was pretty steep. The cheapest seats cost us $76 for the 2 of us for a 45 minute ride through bucks county. The dining car is over $100. Since it was a hot day it was nice way to see parts of New Hope by train that you wouldn't normally see and learn about the Old railroad and it's former operations. We personally, enjoyed the ride. The train travels very slow, so slow you can stand up towards the back and you can wave to people standing on the street or in their cars. Everyone is super friendly and waves back. The train travels through the back of some people's property. There are quite a few large homes to see. I would've liked a longer ride. There is a dining car train but that is booked separately but not necessary. One of the conductors came around and let us know that you can purchase alcoholic drinks on the train. It was a great way to relax, and the drinks were made really well. We really appreciated that because we didn't have time to grab drinks ahead of time. All the conductors were very knowledgeable and super friendly. I suggest parking in the lot where the Triumph Brewing Company is located. It's not that far of a walk a couple of blocks and much cheaper then the suggested lots. read more

So I came for the polar express train ride with my mom and my son and niece we paid almost 500 dollars for the tickets there is no bathroom on the train and no heat they serve hot chocolate but it was watered down and had no Christmas cheer to it they come down in the carts to see if you want to take a picture with Santa and charge almost 40 dollars for 2 pictures and the color quality is horrible anddddd to top it off parking cost 45 dollars I wouldn't recommend this to anyone read more

Had a wonderful trip on the New Hope railroad this past (2023) holiday season. I know previous reviews commented on some exorbitant parking fees. But thankfully our parking at the adjacent lot was just 5 dollars, so very reasonable. We had an excellent experience. It was a nice 45 minute excursion. The kids enjoyed it and I liked the history lesson given over the loud speaker during the first part of the trip. It was very cool to see a different side of New Hope and Lahaska. We just went on the regular train trip, not the holiday adventure but we thought it was worth the price to do once. read more

This is for the Trick or Treat train. I cannot emphasize enough how not worth it this experience is. It's 45 minutes on a rickety old train with 20 minutes of some dude with a banjo singing kids Halloween songs, a woman reading Room on the Broom, and a goodie bag at the end with two Tootsie Rolls, a bag of Smarties, a rubber duck, pencils and a crayon. If this were $10/person, I might say 'It's a nice trip through the woods.' and give it 2-3 stars. But there is simply no way to justify spending $45/person on this. read more

Parking is atrocious. It is only one lane in, however once you pull in, it has two way traffic. Right in front of me a SUV backed into another SUV, hit it, and then pulled away. Once you leave the train and walk back to your car - you will spend 52 minutes waiting in line in your car to exit. No where does it state how much the parking is, it is $15 per hour. We got there 1 hour early and spent 2 hours on the train and almost an hour trying to get out, so we paid $60 for parking. Rediculous! No toilet paper in the toilet on the train and no paper towels in Ladies Rest Room on the platform, so bring your own. Better yet, don't even go. read more

I was looking for something unique to do for my adult kids' birthdays. We parked a few blocks away at the local high school for $5 for the day. If you like walking it's not too far. They left on time, tidy train car w/ white table cloths - old fashioned. This was a nice day out, at this time of year especially (autumn) with the changing of the leaves. We bought a first class ticket to include 4 types of wine for tasting, a cheese, meat, bread and cracker platter, with grapes. The servers were nice although spread thin, they did a good job of keeping our glasses full. It was about an hour, which was shown in the description when buying the tickets. It was a great way to spend time together for an hour, and although it was a bit expensive, with prices of gas and groceries, it probably was fair. It's a "one and done" excursion for me but I certainly am glad we did it ! read more

We booked the speakeasy train. This was our first excursion with New Hope railroad and I was very much excited and looking forward to this. The train was due to depart at 7pm however, we did not leave until 730pm. I think the information regarding the time and the schedule could have been communicated more effectively because I for one was left wondering what was the delay when the ticket clearly said 7 PM departure, and was left wondering then would we make it back to the train station in time. Now to the most frustrating part of the night. We paid for the platinum class tickets, which I assumed would have meant some type of a different experience than a regular ticket cost. Instead, what it equated to was us being in the car furthest from where the musician was, granted he did make his way toward us on about four occasions but hands-down, he spent the majority of the trip at the other end of the train cars and was barely audible. In addition, we were the very last guests to be provided with the cocktails, with the last cocktail given to us as we were pulling up to depart from the train so we didn't even have time for it. I will also say that if you suffer from any type of motion sickness, this is not the experience for you. Overall, highly disappointed with the night. The food and the cocktails that we were served were not in any capacity worth the amount of money of the tickets. This is at best, and I'm being very generous with this, a $50 experience and as I said, I'm being generous. I do not recommend this experience at all as I have nothing positive to report. On top of that, parking is astronomically priced at $15 per hour. Because of everything, I will not be trying any of the other experiences with the New Hope railroad. read more
