Cocktail list- great choices but sadly two were very poor
Liz D.

Was super excited about the Speakeasy event and got tickets months ahead- but a lot was lacking and needs polish for the price point. The great stuff- the trains were in practically new condition, with curtains, tables, lamps, and cute giveaways. Their check in and serving system was very efficient, everyone knew their job and we barely went a few minutes in between a new bit of food or drink. The ride was completely smooth and exactly on time. Instructions for parking were very clear and easy to follow. They have bathrooms that were warm, clean, and well stocked. Not so great- you never get a person if you try to call. They only reserve in sections of 2 or 4 so the train showed sold out even though a handful of seats were empty due to odd numbered parties. The parking is convenient but the cost of $48 for two hours seems absolutely outrageous for a single car. The entertainment, banjo players and story tellers, were fun but uneven. They didn't play jazz or 20s ragtime or typical speakeasy tunes and often the volume was way too much for a dinner time chat. It seemed intrusive rather than a pleasant background. Some way to balance and pace things better is needed. Bad- The food bites were all delicious and served well, half the drinks were water. Some people complained and got replacements but when you're charging so much and the theme itself is Speakeasy this was a pretty big misstep. I'm not saying to avoid this- if you did this in the day so you could see the views for a non drinks focused event, you'll probably have a lovely time. Nothing about the train, or the stewards was lacking in any way, just this event and given the high cost it was disappointing.

Finding fall!
Michelle S.

Had a fun time on the train ride today, although this was a fall foliage trip, fall hasn't seemed to make its appearance yet. All staff were very nice, which made this ride wonderful. Wish it was a little longer. I think we will try the speakeasy train ride next. The only thing we will change is finding parking outside instead of parking in the lot, which cost $48 dollars for 2 hours.

What a delightful surprise to find this train ride on a real steam train while out for lunch in New Hope. There are a few ticket types based on the car and experience you want to have. We opted for the open air car right behind the engine & we had an absolute blast! This is the funnest experience I have had in New Hope and the ride is so nice through the backwoods of Pennsylvania. The ride round trip is about an hour and there is so much to look at! We took many photos and videos and really want to come back in winter with some hot chocolate & a blanket. This activity is good for all ages and is a smooth ride with plenty of seating. I really enjoyed this whole experience & highly recommend it!

In town for the day because my son wanted to check it out and I thought the train experience would be cool. Overall it was fun to be on the train. The scenery was a little blah. Might be better in the fall when the leaves change. Didn't know what to expect but we pretty much saw peoples backyards for the most part. It was a little pricey at $50 a seat for the open air car. The big disappointment was the parking. Wasn't sure what the rate would be but turns out it was $14 an hour. A little steep for where we were I thought. Would I do it again? Sure but in the fall. Would I park there again? Only because it's convenient. I'm coming from NYC where $15 is for 15 minutes let alone an hour so as painful as it is. It is what it is.

Came here this past weekend to the steam railroad for the polar express. Super fun & cute. It was expensive but It was nice to do as a family. It included hot chocolate & a ticket for the kids that were punched. They sang & got to meet Santa. My son enjoued It. Definitely recommend doing with still daylight so you can see the surrounding area rather then super dark.

We went here for the 2024 No Hope After Dark Halloween event. The train ride was nice and the platform was well done but the haunts and spooky acting had alot to be desired. Only three actors on the train and they weren't at all scary. In order to board you walk through a haunted clown maze which was slapped together. The train itself is nice and we enjoyed the ride. Both food and drink were incredibly expensive onboard and none of the wait staff seemed to know what was on the menu or how much it cost. The train arrives to a small field area with bonfires, vendors, and food carts. There's a second spooky maze that you can go through that had about 4 actors and wasn't really creepy either. Live music was the best part Riverside Odds were playing and while I've never heard their music before but they were great. Parking is outrageously expensive at $15/hr beating even NYC prices. I guess we were on the train that was filming this year's promo videos too because really there were more people with camera following us than scary actors and maybe that was the real horror story here.

I bought tickets for my small group to take a short, scenic ride on the New Hope Railroad in the open car area. We all enjoyed the beautiful views, especially from the observation deck, which offered an unobstructed look at the scenery. While the ride was enjoyable, it would have been nice if it were a bit longer for the price. We were able to purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages during the trip, but it would have been better if they had been available earlier in the ride instead of closer to the end. Overall, it's a pleasant experience and a nice treat if you're in the area.

Fantastic riding experience ! The tour guide onboard told the passengers clearly about the historic spots along the journey

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon! Many different fare options- upgraded to the platinum ticket and on a hot day it was worth every penny to be in a nicely air conditioned dining car. Friendly staff both outside and inside the train. Noticed they had moveable ramps to accommodate guests in wheelchairs. Tour over the PA that points out different historic places the train is passing.

Thank you for contacting the New Hope Railroad! At this time, we are only running the diesel locomotive. It will not smell of smoke. Hope this helps! Susan, Customer Service New Hope Railroad.

The pros: Our tour guide/bus driver, Don, was excellent. He seriously made the whole trip. He was so kind and helpful and fun loving, he was a great match for our group. The wine tour was excellent we had an extensive tour of the grounds and they make their wine. It was the best tour we got the whole trip. The brewery had corn hole which made a great activity as our day was winding down. The pub lunch was great and had choices for everyone. Cons: Definitely overpriced for "tasting tours" when out of the three places when we only got one real "tour". Pretty disappointed and we all wished we got actual tours of the distillery and brewery since that is what we paid for. We didn't get to stay at the winery very long or hang out before we had to leave-- we thought this was the best location out of all three.

We were able to take the train from Center City to Doylestown. At Doylestown, their driver - Linda (actually the founder) was there to greet us. Leading up to the planning of this event, we worked with Linda and had a very good experience. She knew the area, suggested eateries and talked about the country side. All this just added what I call "free extras" to the already low price. Plus there are shopping baskets, bottles of water, and storage cases for new wine while on your journey. This is a well thought out operation. We had a group of 5. Our biggest concern is who we would sit with on the bus; however, after the first stop everyone was loosened up (the first stop allows you to pour or own samples!) and the conversations just started rolling out. We had a great time and thanks to Linda for making it work out.

Soulless and cowardly would be the two words that come to mind first. Executives sitting on a…read moreperch not to be disturbed. A staff with horrible PR skills. How do you end a call with "try to have a better day" with someone who just lost a love one? A tour director that is taking the easy way out by calling a guest instead of the family directly to have a conversation. My mother booked a bus tour/Norwegian Cruise tour with a group of old friends that was supposed to leave in September. Sadly, my mother recently passed away, but during the fight of her life she "missed" the cancellation day for Starr tours. Under these extenuating circumstances you would think a company would put people over profits. Not Starr tours. They are doubling down. When I called to plead with them a woman named Sandy kept referring to their policy instead of having compassion. She kept passing the buck saying it's not in her "scope" to make those kinds of decisions. When I asked to speak to someone who can make those decisions she decided to shield her bosses and say they aren't available. All she could end the conversation with was "try to have a better day." It was a cold conversation. Try to have a better day? I don't know how these people sleep at night. I hope their money keeps them warm at night. BTW Norwegian has a 30 day cancellation policy, so they have a chance to get money back out of this, but they clearly aren't working hard enough. I decided to take a trip to their company building to plead with them further. Sandy answered the door and reluctantly let me in after realizing who I was. I gave a copy of the death certificate and once again pleaded my case. I was given the same lip service, but that the person who could help me further wouldn't be in for the rest of the week. I patiently waited for a phone call from a Chris and still haven't received a call. If it's the same person this Chris called my mothers friend on the trip instead of me to let her know she would have to pay extra (over $1,300) for single occupancy on the trip OR we would have to find someone to buy my mothers trip (around $1,800). NO phone call to me as of yet. Also how do you do this to a grieving friend? They were friends for almost 60 years! How can these people be so cowardly? Where is the compassion? In the last few weeks I have had to deal with the unexpected loss of my mother and all of the funeral plans. Spending countless hours of time making the calls to various places to make them aware of her death and this company has the guts to do this. In the bio of the company the owner Sandy sounded so relatable. Her and her husband Pete had to fight, scratch and claw to keep their livelihood and company that her father built from the ground up alive during the pandemic. My mother fought so hard to save her life. I'm so sorry she couldn't call your company on time because she was too busy trying to live. In business you can't always point to policy. Beyond policy, how can you treat people like this and think it's ok? I hope the owner reads and fixes this because the staff is only making a terrible tragedy even worse! Don't force a grieving family to have to peddle my mothers trip. Do the RIGHT thing. Truly heartless and painful experience!

There were only 5 of us, so plenty of time to climb. Our Guide, Bob, was so patient, engaged and informative. Shortly before the hike we received an email from Dave saying that because of the warm weather the trip would not have as much ice as it normally does. He offered to reschedule or refund our money if we wanted, but also said we could go if we wanted. We wanted. When I got there Dave and the guides were fantastic. Very personable. They were helpful but without being intrusive. One of them carried one of my forearm canes in his backpack in case I needed it. (This was to have one hand free for the ice axe.) The hike was great. At the end of the hike I asked one of the guides if he thought I could do the repelling they offer... he conferred with the owner and the lead repeller guide, and they agreed that I would be allowed to do that in the Spring. I highly recommend Valley to Summit for a great time. I look forward to a full day ice hike in February.

Unless you are medically unfit, you can do this. Exceptional customer service sums up the team at Jim Thorpe River Adventures (aka LOC). They are extremely well organized which makes for a great trip. Everyone from the moment you enter LOC until the very end was polite, professional and wanted to make sure you have a great time. Some tips to follow: you only need to arrive 15 minutes before your group time, this allows ample time to get situated. Buy their pre-made lunch, it is well worth the 10 bucks, bring extra water on the raft (especially in the summer). Use the bathroom before you get on the bus (and be quick). They give you a dry bucket for your lunch and items, yes you can bring your phone in a dry pouch. Wear a hat and a sun shirt, it is hot and sunny, without much shade. Jump in the water when you have the chance !! If you are a "full figured" person it will be difficult to re-enter the raft, be aware. The trip down river is very safe and well organized. The guides are VERY safety aware ! If you are nervous and listen to them, the team will get you down the river without a hitch ! A few suggestions: don't go on a busy holiday weekend, it can get crowded on the river, the safety briefing takes a long time and you a sitting in the sun (remove your vest and drink water), during July and August I would imagine the water is very low and slow (if it is a dry summer)...best only if you want to have a relaxing rafting trip.
