Same as it ever was…read more That's the kind of the feeling that I get every time I catch a train at this station as I've been doing it since 198???, a very long time. Sure over the years things have been fixed up, upgraded and improved but at the core it's still the same old, now, 113 year old building. The future looks bright for Lansdale with a new parking structure coming that will increase the amount of available spaces by over 300 to around 900 and Septa is going to replace the area's traction power system which they inherited from the Pennsylvania Railroad that dates back to the '30's. What this type of investment means is that both SEPTA service and the station are going to be around for many years to come which is something that I look forward to as anytime I need to go to Center City this is my preferred way of doing it.

Parking: When you first pull in you'll think there are way too few parking spots. Don't be fooled. There are two lots: one that hosts the station itself and another on the opposite side of where the trains pull in. This second lot is much bigger. Parking is one dollar. They have digital devices that allow you to pay by credit card and just enter the number corresponding to your parking space. On the day I was here those machines were not working. Bring quarters just in case. They have an old fashioned wall of coin slots labeled by lot number. Distance: Doylestown isn't close to anything, and express trains are in shockingly short supply. Expect a trip just shy of two hours to get to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. And most morning trains during the week will be crowded mid-way along the route. If you're looking for a shorter trip and maybe more express options, head for the Lansdale Station. Food: The Station Tap House is adjacent to the Septa Train Station. Kitchen quality varies: it's either very good bar food/sandwiches/appetizers or not so great. Huge beer selection and well-stocked bar options. Service is almost always very good. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Bonus: The Trans-Bridge Bus Stop is on the street next to the second, larger Septa Parking Lot. Rather than taking the train 1:45 minutes to 30th Street then switching trains to NYC, you can take the Trans-Bridge bus (think senior casino trip bus, but with Wi-Fi) to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC near Times Square. Very convenient, comfortable and you're driven to Manhattan in just shy of 3 hours.

The situation has gotten much better since the enlarged parking lot was constructed, as before cars were parked everywhere along the roads, and even private home owners were renting out their driveways to commuters. The location very close to Woodbourne Road makes for difficulty when the Septa trains block the road for extended periods of time, and you can still sit and count hundred car haulers that can trap you for a long time as they pass through. Patience. This, too, shall pass.

Commute to and from the city isn't bad- about an hour, give or take, with several local stops along the route. The problem is with the station itself. SEPTA shares this portion of the West Trenton Line with CSX freight. CSX (very inconsiderately) likes to run their mile-long freight trains past here at rush hour, needlessly creating a ridiculous amount of congestion. Woodbourne road is extraordinarily congested during rush hour, and parking is limited. Getting out of the station is a struggle, especially if you're making a left as there is no stop sign or traffic light to assist you. Warminster station (only an extra 4 miles away for me) is more convenient and laid out better.

Wish there was more parking though. Get here before 7am if you don't want to park at the very far end of the lot! The ticket booth is only open until 1pm which is silly. But there is plenty of seating outside and inside and a bathroom as well. If you need a ride there not enough ubers or taxis close by, so call 15 minutes ahead. Three train lines run through here so it is convenient!

Car vandalism, break-ins, and catalytic converter thefts reported. Several people have been fatally struck by trains here over the years, so be careful to look both ways before crossing the tracks! Traffic is almost always congested if you are coming from Huntingdon Pike. The nice neighborhood is slowly degenerating as lower class people move in. Many local shops within walking distance.

There are lots of parking options…read more On the toward West Trenton direction there is a super large dollar per day lot (free on weekends) and there is a number of spots on the street for free! There is also a lot across from the church where you can park for free. On the side that goes to Center City, there is only a monthly permit lot. There is a small area that is warm and available for waiting when it gets cold. The ticket office is open from 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM during the week and manned by Joe, a kind old man who is very helpful in answering all your train and parking questions. Would be great if they opened a starbucks or something here too.
