This is a place where it's impossible to just window shop. You'll fersher want to come inside and check out all of the fun things! For as many toys and kitschy items this store has, it totally doesn't feel thrown together or crammed in. It's just wall-to-wall fun with puppets, books, stuffed animals, kites, etc. I checked out with a cute dog puppet and a few wind-up toys for my son. Not your barbie doll, remote control car kinds of toys but thought provoking often kinetic and inventive kinds of gadgets, widgets, doohickeys, and thiingamabobs that fly, whistle, boggle and bedazzle even us wayyy old kids. This place is a treasure. Whenever I am strolling on Pearl I swing in for a visit. I have to be careful though because I can spend half-an-hour just browsing. The nicknacks also make for good gifts when you don't know what to get someone. Example: I purchased a balloon animal kit for my sister's partner since he would be traveling home with us for the holidays. It makes for a good conversation piece and can pass time when you're socializing with awkward family members :) I also like supporting the local business. I'm not a fan of shopping. I'm not a fan of walking around all day in 90 degree weather. But every time my family drags me to the Pearl Street Mall, the only reason I don't fall on the ground and make them drag me around is because of this store. It's a great place for people of all ages! There are so many neat little things that will just make you smile and laugh. It's so big and has a ton of variety. It's not just THAT STUFF or THIS STUFF. OH MY GOODNESS WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE!!!! My girlfriends and I wandered in here because we saw bright colors and shiny things and ended up staying for an hour. This place has every knickknack you could imagine, every toy from your childhood you've been looking for but can't find, and enough fun thingamabobs to make you not want to leave. Everything is fairly priced, which is rare to find in specialty stores (especially ones on Pearl St.), and the assortment really is amazing. I haven't been this excited about a store since I was a child, because this place makes you feel like a child again. I will be stopping here every time I visit Boulder to make sure I can let my inner kid out and pick up some fun little things for myself and friends, like my awesome new rubber ducky keychain! read more

This was such a fun store, it is huge totally filled with fun toys, kites, things that fly, etc. There were lots of lots of toys I have never seen before which is saying a lot having 3 kids. Into The Wind is one of those stores that will inspire you to new and silly hobbies. It reminds me of the Wizard's Chest back in Denver, only with a little more class and a little less geekiness. As the name implies, Into The Wind specializes kites. Really good kites. Stunt kiting is a hobby of mine, and the veterans at Into The Wind are legendary in the kiting community, partly because they've been around for so long. Take a look at the ceiling and all around the store and you'll see that they clearly know their kites. If you're a beginner or just a casual kite flier, they have fun shaped kites like sail ships, and simpler kite designs like their popular Hata. They also sell a few models of simple delta kites in a number of sizes. The real draw is in the two lined stunt kites. They carry stunt kites from many, many manufacturers including my favorite, Prism. First time stunt fliers can pick up Prism's Nexus, Quantum or Hypnotist, all excellent kites for the curious beginner. Into the Wind also sells foil kites and Quad line kites, though you'll have to head to the back of the store to see those. Besides kites they also sell tons and tons of toys, skill toys and a plethora of gadgetry to bring out the kid in any adult. It goes without saying that kids swarm around this place. Yo-yos, splatter balls, tops, juggling bags, sound based toys, light based toys, they have everything. If you're into the kite part, ask about their bargain bin. There's a bargain bin in the back of the store, of course, but apparently there's a secret bargain bin in the back office where they do the mail ordering. That bargain bin has some good items that were either lightly used or taken back after little to no use. I got a Prism Speedbag and a Prism Quantum Pro this way and saved a good deal of money. Unfortunately prices are very high, and if you shop around for high end kites elsewhere on the internet you'll find that the prices Into the Wind charges will make you balk. But that's part of the cost of owning a store on Pearl Street, and its up to you, the consumer whether you'll support a fantastic local store. I chose to do so when the bargain bin came to play, but on a still very limited budget I'm not sure whether my shopping ethics could overcome an empty wallet. But that's really only for the kites. If you're taking a walk down Pearl Street, this is a required stop for kids and adults. read more

OMG this store is so much fun! I stopped in with my daughter while shopping at the Pearl Street mall and was really glad I did. There are so many creative toys and gadgets for kids of any age. They even had a good choice of self adhesive mustaches which was an impulse buy for my son. If you are on Pearl Street you should stop in just to check it out. read more

The great Martin Lester (British Kite Guru) is found here. His kites are show toppers. George Peters is another wizard of the breeze but his are using colors to evoke urban sophistication. Martin's legs will dance their way into your consciousness. Do get ready to pay mighty for the privilege to loft these men skyward, for both pull hard on windy days and spools, gloves, bags and flags. This place is the home depo of the wind. read more

I'm actually shocked I never wrote a review for this place while I lived in Boulder (since I was in here many times). Anyway, a solid four star place. My family and I had loads of fun playing in here. It's a place where adults and kids alike can play & explore all the fun educational & just crazy things they have in stock. It's a great place to buy gifts too. Their inventory ranges from gorgeous kites to various types of rubber duckies, and everything in between. Hard to describe what this shop is all about (though kites seem to be the prevailing theme, along with wind socks & the like). What a great place!!!!!!! It's like you've walked into another world inside this neat little store, a world where everything flies!!! Their kite selection is amazing, I'm not a kite runner but I do love kites for how they look and what they do, and I've never seen any that look like these. This isn't just a store for kids, this is a serious kite store as well. But, the really fun stuff are all the toys for kids. They have so many kinetic gadgets, old school toys, and gag gifts that if you can't find something for your kid maybe he or she has too much!! I didn't have any interactions with staff but from what I witnessed they were all very nice. A great place for browsing. It's a great place to find stocking stuffers or something fun, just for the heck of it. It can get a little crowded, as it is a pretty popular place on the promenade. It's entertaining to watch kids try to figure out the puzzles or as they are amazed by some of the toys. There are a lot of kites (hence the name of the store) for all levels of experience. This place is rad. I spent like 2 hours in this store the first time I went. The staff is so extremely friendly and funny, the atmosphere is incredible. I went in looking for a hum drum, run of the mill kite, not knowing how many fabulous and extremely different kites they had. I ended up buying a pink polka dotted octopus kite. Now, I challenge you, what store has a cooler kite than that??! read more

Into the WInd is more than just a kite store, a unique experience that shouldn't be missed. Don't get me wrong, they also have some of the finest kites in the country, many made locally for Into the Wind. If you live around Boulder then you know the wind is frequently unnerving, so go fly a kite, it turns the wind into a fun thing. The store is packed with fun toys and games. If nothing else go see what they have, but don't plan to walk out without at least one neat toy, game, or maybe a new kite. The store is usually packed, but that just adds to the fun.
