Staff needs education on ADA guidelines regarding service animals. We were asked if our dog was a service animal, which he is, and we answered yes. Completely appropriate for staff to ask the question. Then they began to escalate and continued to challenge, which was inappropriate and also very embarrassing to be called out in front of others. Finally the staff wound down a bit but continued to mutter under their breath. A person with a disability has a protected right to a service animal. Staff either has not been trained properly or does not care. While not in a wheelchair, I notice that Interzone's space, and the restroom in particular, would not be easily accessible for a wheelchair. I have to conclude that people with disabilities are not welcome at Interzone. Accomodating a person with a disability is not optional. It is the law. The coffee is good here. read more

Used a Yelp to find a place for breakfast. My son an OSU student was familiar with the spot as it is directly across the street from the Chem lab. He had never been in. Of course my family was skeptical of the vegan and vegetarian menu. Advocated that the menu had something for each of us, besides do we really need meat on our plate. Huevos rancheros was delicious, waffle wonderful and my husband had an omelet. My spouse and daughter are both the hardest to please. My spouse said, oh yes we will definitely come back! The Decor is a mixture of old dining tables. Serve yourself napkins and utensils and bus your table. So glad we decided on this spot much better than waiting for a table at a chain. Baked goods look wonderful, bought a blue berry coconut muffin and couldn't wait to eat it so I tried a piece. Awesome breakfast spot! read more

It's finals week and the sun is actually trying to break through to lure people out of the school library for some fun in the sun. Guess what? We can't... well I can't... I have a 5-6 page research paper due in 7 and a half hours, 4 finals to take and not a whole lot of motivation to get my brain to take on the load. However Interzone provides a nice little spot right across from campus to escape from the confinement of my room and the madness in the library (save me some gas too!). They provide organic coffee and espresso (though i'm not sure about their teas). The staff here are very friendly and blend in with the crowd. You get a sense of wholeness and feeling of being grounded once you enter here. The music is a little louder than usual and different? Well it varies... which is nice. The crowd comes in all walks of life, like this one chick in who looks lost between wearing something for a nice hike or going to the gym... you get the point. It's comfortable here I must say. I'm enjoying my first cup of darjeeling tea while working on my research paper (which i just need to type up now that i have edited, re-edited, yatta yatta yatta). This window next to me gives me a sense of home, the bustle of Monroe street, the sidewalk traffic, the noises of calm in the coffee shop while hearing the engines muffle by. It's very comfortable, for me at least. Maybe if they threw in a couch or loveseat here and there and a few coffee tables I'd feel even more comfortable coming here. 4 stars for today. Next time I'll make sure to have cash on me to try your food and coffee. read more

The coffee was decent, but the staff and service were horrible. I went in to order a quick cup of coffee to go after lunch. There was no line and there were two people working behind the counter who clearly couldn't be bothered to help me. I had to stand at the register and wait for a break in their conversation to order. After waiting for over minute I ordered a small coffee. I don't think the person working the register ever even acknowledged me, just rang it up and set a cup on the counter and kept talking to their coworker. I really felt unwelcome. Thank goodness I didn't ask for anything that actually required any work on their part! I don't expect to have an in-depth discussion every time I order coffee, but a generic greeting and at least looking at me are among my general expectations. We only wound up eating here because everything else around was closed for the holiday. It was really quiet, with only two other tables occupied. I was sooooo hungry by the time we sat down. And then I waited. And waited. The person at the counter was pretty nonplussed and not at all apologetic about the wait. She had time to have a loud conversation with her co-worker about dolphins which everyone in the restaurant had to be privy to ("They're not as nice as you think they are!") and then to take a hundred artsy pictures of the table outside. We inquired about the food after a to-go ordered placed like 15 minutes after we ordered was filled. We were reassured it was "coming right out!" without any care to the fact that it was so delayed. Finally, 30 minutes after ordering, the food came out. It was decent, which is what saved this place from a 1 star review. The "soysage" was delicious. The sourdough bread was good, although I had to go up to request jam. The tofu was seasoned well, but lukewarm, perhaps from waiting so very long to be served. Interzone is a coffee shop on Monroe with a humanitarian/Indie rock vibe to it, which certainly doesn't hurt Interzone; they simply cater to a crowd who may feel like outcasts at local champs Dutch Bros. or Starbucks. With that in mind, they offer decent coffee, but there's plenty of other places that reign supreme. Prices aren't too bad, but for the sizes associated with them, they could ATLEAST offer a free refill, like everywhere else in town is more than happy to do. They offer free wifi, but it literally works for 30 seconds before cutting out. On and on and on..... Interzone staff were nothing but polite, which is a plus I suppose. EDIT (3/10/11): Bumped up from two stars to four because the coffee has gotten better, and the wifi has gotten alot better, and because the hours are just prime for getting stuff done. I like this place. Good coffee, always a good crowd (mostly trending toward younger end, but some variety). Also, since the Beanery put harsh caps on their internet, and removed all the power outlets, this is one of only a couple of decent options, although I had some issues with the net just dying every few minutes when I was there, may have just been a bad net day, not sure. Edit: talked more to the employee who is sort of volunteering to run the internet there, and he said they put in a new router since my review, and seemed like an overall awesome person! read more

This is a lovely place to eat or hang out. It has a strong hippy vibe, the staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. Breakfast is served all day until 5 pm. I think that their avocado egg sandwich is my favorite, but I've also enjoyed the fresh muffins and coffee cake that they often have lying out on the counter. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic I am working from home and not able to go to Interzone in the mornings for my daily coffee and occasional "The Avocado" breakfast sandwich, so I am writing a review instead. I love this place. My favorite drink is the spicy Mexican mocha, but I usually just get their coffee. It's nice know their coffee is fair trade and organic. That means a lot to me. For meetings their carafe is really convenient, everything came in a bag with all the details needed to make a good cup of coffee. The coffee is always good. I miss going here in the morning. Hopefully all this will clear up soon so that routines can resume. read more

This was not at all what I expected, the sign states "vegetarian" but that just indicates options, not a worldview. It's not a restaurant, more of a grunge cafe. I'll be back again for their spicy Mexican mocha and the best bagel sandwich I've ever eaten. A word about their food menu, it's not posted and it's oddly hard to even discover that they sell food. Once you order, they magically produce something that was clearly freshly cooked, but I don't know from where. If it was just incompetence that's bad enough but it seemed like their pretentious attitude was partly to blame. The setup also makes it feel cramped. For some reason Interzone coffee has always made me feel a little ill, but I can stand it for the most part. I mostly used to come here because this is a fantastic place to come and watch the Halloween bar-crawls from behind glass. A bit like going to the zoo. This used to be much more fun before they extended the fence around the front of the building, as the drunken, partied-out, costumed revelers trailed by. I had a friend who had a Lt. Dangle, Ronald McDonald, and the tail end of a group of sperm hit on him--basically, Interzone is definitely a place to get something to drink and watch OSU and Corvallis walk by. The indoor atmosphere is nice, and you can make your space nicely intimate. The outdoor atmosphere is slightly hostile with groups of chainsmokers eyeing up passerby. They can spend entire afternoons and evenings outside, making it impossible for us nonsmokers to loiter outside in peace with our slightly-off coffees. To each their own, but I would much rather walk a block up the street and sit in the window up at Dutch Brothers if I'm going to drink slightly weird coffee and get stared at without smoke choking in through the doors and windows. read more

Great coffee. Amazing bagel sandwiches. My main gripe with this place is there is a group of customers that claim ownership of the outdoor seating area so they can smoke cigarettes. One one occasion I politely asked to switch tables with two smoking patrons so that I could sit upwind of their smoke while I ate. Their reply was, "this is a place where smokers can smoke without shame." I could not have possibly generated a big enough eye roll. I wish that there could be a few nonsmoking tables outside since seating inside is usually occupied by internet squatters. read more

I used to eat there fairly often and liked it a lot. It has been quite a while since I had eaten there so I thought I would try it again. I had to use the restroom. Yuck! There was very little toilet paper on the roll and that was it for the toilet paper. There were no extra rolls. We didn't know that we were supposed to grab the coffee ourselves which caused some confusion but other than that nothing negative to note about this place. The atmosphere was laid back. Sitting at Interzone right now. Ordered a mocha chai. Barista admitted to not knowing how to make it. Made it anyway, took him about 10 minutes. He also forgot about the bagel I ordered, that took 15 minutes, 3 reminders and another 5 minutes. They haven't been busy either, I've seen people come in after me, order entire breakfasts, and receive them before I get a drink. When the bagel arrived it had different cream cheese than what I ordered. F for service, B- for taste. Despite being served the wrong food, it was still pretty good. read more

I rarely drink coffee. This is a coffee place. In Corvallis just that morning, I needed a quick place near campus to get on the internet. Hadn't been to Interzone for years. It got it's name back when having free wifi in a coffee shop was a novel idea. Yep, there was a time. I was hungry. Noticed they had a breakfast menu. Right on. Ordered the simplest thing that would fill me up fast, the two egg special: two eggs, two slices of toast, two soy patties. Little did I realize... interzone was about to make my day. This is what makes life fun... when a small something turns out to be quite special when you least expect it. Why so satisfying? The sourdough bread (my choice) isn't the flimsy kind, but hearty and filling, and the soy patties are crazy good. I don't know if you can do anything special with eggs, they were fine, they ask you how you want them done and deliver them just the way you request. Mine were fried, not too greasy with just a dash of seasoning. But it's the matching of the eggs with the wholesome sourdough and the amazing soy patties that makes the combo special. I'm veggie-friendly but not vegetarian, so I wasn't expecting to be so pleased with soy patties. I would have ordered breakfast sausage if that had been an option. But the patties' rich texture and seasoning was remarkable. I wanted to find out where I could buy a bunch of these elsewhere and learned that they make the patties at interzone with a soy mix from a local co-op combined with other ingredients and spices (noted some onion slices and fennel). It might be hard to replicate. My schedule now brings me to Corvallis frequently. I've been back many times, a new favorite. Brought my Dad here, asked if he'd like to try some of the sausage. He liked it, but thought there was something different about it. Didn't guess it wasn't sausage until I told him it was a soy patty. He wasn't amused with my little test. But he liked the place nonetheless. I've expanded beyond the two egg special. The waffles are also quite good, taste buck-wheaty but not sure if they are. Not too crisp and not too chewy, airy and just right! Delicious. The baked goods are also a surprise. Until I noticed them bringing out a pan of muffins and tray of coffee cake one day, I hadn't realized they bake their own muffins and coffee cake. Was quite impressed with the rich coffee cake with blue berries and a few nuts. Big pieces, too. If you come by in the morning, the muffins and coffee cake may still be warm. Good prices, in general. The big windows on Monroe Street bring in lots of light and connect you with all the life around the cafe outside. The eclectic furniture reminded me of the tables and chairs I bought from second hand stores when I was first starting graduate school here years ago. I like it. Gives the place a homey, authentic feel. Could use some comfy chairs and a couch, though... as others have noted. I still haven't tried the coffee. read more

Oh, Interzone. I have a fondness for them. Fun atmosphere, good people work there. Most people think of it as a place to get coffee, but the food is also quite good. Just simple things; my favorite thing to get there is a toasted bagel with their pesto cream cheese. Really yummy cheap breakfast or lunch. I'm not much of a coffee person per se, but I do love that they make lavender italian sodas. I recommend it if you're in the area, it's definitely ten (million) times better than Dutch Bros up the street. read more
