We have stayed here several times and have always enjoyed. John, Mary and Christine make you feel like family. The house is a historic house (which we love) and the grounds are right next to the Ellis River. Breakfasts each morning are home made and delicious. Our most recent visit was in the Ellis River Cottage, which is a separate building next to the main inn. It used to be an ice house. It's cozy and adorable and the spiral staircase is a neat feature. Mary, John, and Christine are so kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Our room was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. We staying in Diana's Baths. Upon arrival, Mary gave us a tour and helped carry our things upstairs. There are games available and many guests utilize the common spaces, which made for a homey feel. A wonderful place! Running a B&B cannot be an easy business, but the folks at Ellis River make their guests feel welcome and well-fed. The rooms are very nice and well-kept, even with lesser levels of housekeeping lodging establishments are known for these days. A/C is terrific (we went in August 2023), hot water is plentiful and high pressure, sitting areas indoors and outside are lovely. And of course the breakfasts! So creative and good! Something different every morning you're there. Proximity to the attractions in the White Mountains is very close. read more

My wife and I have enjoyed our stays at the Inn at Ellis River for the last 8 years! We try to get there at least twice a year. The location is perfect for outdoor recreation in winter and summer. And close enough to Conway if you want to hit the outlets, too. There are so many B&Bs in the Jackson area, but we come back to the Inn for the 'home away from home' feel; the comfortable rooms; the cozy pub; the fantastic breakfasts; but especially for the owners/operators... The room was excellent, the hot tub and fireplace lovely. This spot was charming with a great location right in town, walking distance to some bars and restaurants. John, Mary, Christine, and Chantelle have a great operation ranging from the first class breakfast to the clean and quaint rooms. First of all, if you want a specific room during fall foliage, you need to book WAY in advance. I booked 7 1/2 months ahead of time and ended up with the Crystal Cascade room. (Not my first choice). Christine the Innkeeper is super friendly and gave us a tour upon arrival. The first order of business is to sign up for a breakfast time; 8:00am, 8:30am, or 9:00am. Although we only went to breakfast once, the food was very good. The location is also convenient to the few restaurants around and all of the recommended sites to see. If you want to stay out of the bustle of North Conway, this is a great option. Our room was the reason for the 3 stars. The mattress was soft, with a topper that made it more so. The sink is outside of the very dark bathroom, and there is no furniture in the room except 2 beds. For two 50+ year-olds, it wasn't very comfortable seating. The thermostat didn't seem to work, so it was pretty cold in the room. Maybe if we had a different room, I could give 4 or 5 stars. I did mention my concerns in an email and the owners responded favorably. read more

The Inn at Ellis River is phenomenal! Mary and John are exceptional hosts and did everything to make our stay perfect. Breakfast is provided every morning with something yummy either eggs or something on the sweet side such as fresh pancakes plus delicious crispy bacon! If you're not able to make breakfast because you are hiking in the area which the area is great for, they will make sure to pack you a delicious to go breakfast with granola, breads and fruit. The room which my boyfriend and I stayed in had a beautiful fireplace which we made use of and had wonderful cozy nights. Right behind the inn is a nice little stream which you can either sit besides on chairs provided or take a dip in. If it's raining, the inn has a beautiful game room/ bar and lots of books laying around. Thank you Mary and John for making our first time a memorable one and surely not our last ! Very charming location and building and a great starting point for exploring the area. I loved the fact they gave a personalized tour of the building upon checking in - very unique and appreciated. The room was smaller than I expected; for some reason I thought I booked with a microwave and fridge but the room had neither which wasn't great as we had stuff that needed to be refrigerated. The bathroom was also a weird set up with the sink around the corner and not in the actual room with the toilet and shower. Again, the room was much smaller than I had anticipated, I'll say it again. The television was tiny and got hundreds of random channels (it was fun flipping through to see what cool stuff popped up) but nothing that seemed local. There was a parking lot but that filled up fast and there was a bigger one just up the driveway that we parked in with no issues. They served a homemade breakfast each morning as part of the room rate where you were seated in a dining room and served several items. If you can eat anything, this will be great for you. I was sitting there jealous as I saw others eating all sorts of rich, yummy indulgent food that I can't do on my new diet. I did try the fritatta and it was good. Staff were so friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy being in charge of the inn and interacting with guests. My one biggest complaint (and honestly I'd mark this lower if not for the nice staff) was the bed. I woke up the first day in such pain from that old mattress, not to mention the numerous oversized pillows that were part of the set up. All day I had throbbing back pain as we drove or walked anywhere and I almost considered leaving and not spending the second night. Hopefully, that was just my bad luck but I probably wouldn't stay again due to that issue. read more

Comfortable room with a Jacuzzi and fireplace. Unwind at the end of the day at the bar for a drink while you play a game of checkers or pool. We would come back if in the area. The Inn at Ellis River is the best B&B I've been to (granted I've only been to a dozen or so). Frank, one the innkeepers, met us at the door and gave us a personal tour of the fabulous facilities. The room was fantastic and everything seemed to have a personal touch (little chocolates, bottled water, hot cider, homemade cookies). A new fire log was delivered every night. Breakfast was more than we could hope for: choice of omelet, Belgian waffle, french toast. We loved it here! read more

I've been here a few times now and have always had a nice stay. It is located in a quiet area, just far enough away from Route 16 so that you don't hear much of the traffic. The rooms are mostly very nice, though a few are rather small and some of the bathrooms aren't ideal (the sink in some of the rooms is outside the bathroom). Some of the rooms have balconies and fireplaces, and in a few, you can hear the sound of the Ellis River below. Breakfast is pretty good overall, and is included in the price, of course. The folks who run the place are friendly and personable and are more than willing to help with any questions about the surrounding area. Finally, the grounds are rather nice, with a large grassy area below that leads to the river, and a pool along the side for the warmer months. If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Jackson, this isn't a bad choice at all. read more

Came here for my In-law's 50th trip and stayed one night. The room was quite, comfortable and clean-our big 3. The tour by Mary when we arrived was warm and welcoming. I am an early riser and was grateful for the hot coffee dispenser in the eating room. A note for the Basin room: the steps are very steep for older folks and the suite has one bathroom/ shower. Although it was not ideal for our family, it is ideal for you families. The breakfast had two options (blueberry French toast or a southwest frittata egg bake) and both were delicious. My wife and I came up here directly after our wedding in late March with the goal of getting away from everyone. Our cell phones were off; no e-mail checking; no Facebook; nothing. We got exactly what we were looking for. There was only one other couple there, which was fine with us since we didn't leave our room much except to go across the road to the Shannon, and down the hallway for breakfast and playing some board games. As part of our package, we got some champagne, champagne flutes, chocolate, and a room with a Jacuzzi and fireplace. My wife had even let them know I was gluten-intolerant so they had picked up a whole bunch of gluten-free items to be ready for me when I arrived. It was a fantastic way to spend a few days decompressing after dealing with the wedding stress. The only problem we had was that our fireplace wouldn't light, so one of the innkeepers and I spent a while getting it working. Not very romantic, but there was a problem, and they worked on getting it remedied quickly. Short story; great place to get away, and you can tell the innkeepers care about making sure you leave happy. read more

Another great stay with Frank, Lynn and Christine at the Inn at Ellis River! This time we tried to save some money and stayed in the Basin Suite, which normally sleeps four-- but they close off the second part of the suite if there's two of you. It's a smaller room than some of the others, no fireplace or tub, but it is still very nice and has a very soft king bed. It was New Years weekend and the Inn was totally full, it seemed. Breakfast on New Years Day had every table full and we've never seen that before at this Inn (and we've been coming here for almost 6 years!). Breakfast was delicious-- there always seems to be a choice of a waffle/pancake or an egg creation of some kind. There are healthy alternatives if you want... or if you want to indulge, you can do that too. Lynn does all of the breakfast making and she's amazing (and so nice too!). One of the days, she made these white chocolate raspberry scones-- really, so heavenly.... As always, I can't wait to come back! read more

Outstanding weekend stay for my husband and I at the Inn at Ellis River. This was our first time visiting New Hampshire and it did not disappoint! We were hoping for a quiet, relaxing winter getaway to a snowy winter wonderland and that is exactly what we got. Breakfasts were so fresh and flavorful. The bacon that everyone raves about completely lived up to the hype... its candied and so tasty! We loved having a fireplace in our room.. it really set the cozy tone of our trip. We booked the babymoon package which includes a dinner at White Mountain Cider Co. and a prenatal massage. Both were excellent and reservations were arranged by the Inn owners. We LOVE, love the Inn at Ellis River! This is hands down one of the best B&Bs around. The rooms are great! Some of them even have jetted tubs and fireplaces. There is a pool in the summer and a hot tub year round. The scenery is nice and the location is convenient to fun activities year-round. Best of all though is the breakfast! Two words...CANDY BACON! A family gathering brought us to this Inn recently and what a great experience. The Inn itself is warm, comfortable and extremely relaxing. The common areas are large and roomy but intimate enough for reading, games or quiet conversation. The rooms are beautifully decorated and afford you the best night's sleep. The owners and staff are very knowledgeable of the surrounding area, and will be happy to recommend places nearby you might like to visit. The river is extremely peaceful and has such a calming effect on your entire stay. This is the epitome of what your stay in New Hampshire should be like. You will definitely feel like you had a true vacation. We were so impressed with the Inn, we went to Chronicle's website and suggested they visit. read more

Very clean inside and out, friendly/helpful staff, delicious breakfast and pretty rooms. There is also a pool and jacuzzi that you can use until 9pm. There is definitely nothing to do in the area after 9 or 10pm, but this inn is convenient set nearby all major local attractions to check out during the day. My boyfriend and I have been attending the Holiday Cookie Tour every year for the last 4 years and there's got to be a reason out of all the Inns on this tour we keep returning to Ellis River. Well, the rooms are just beautifully appointed, their service is above and beyond, and the breakfast they serve is enough to keep bringing you back. The new owners are absolutely fabulous and so are Christine, and Tiny! YEP back to that breakfast, the bacon will have you begging for more. We go away quite a lot and have NEVER had bacon this good. And their menu is custom and different everyday. With home baked items like, croissants that melt in your mouth, to perfectly baked scones, and the best omelets, quiches, and waffles, to homemade granola and local jams. Need I say more! The grounds are just lovely and their billiards room with bar is so warm and welcoming that it's gong to be tough when it's check-out time. Plus it's easy walking distance to down town Jackson. Now, I'm very fussy when it comes to picking places to stay, so please know you will not be disappointing at the Ellis River! read more

This is our second visit to the Inn at Ellis River. First time was our honeymoon SEVEN years ago. You cannot ask for a better stay. The rooms are clean and cozy, the Inn feels like home. We stayed in Silver cascade, the highest room at the Inm with a beautiful balcony overlooking the river below. Innkeepers and staff are amazingly friendly and family-like. Breakfast is delicious and beats anything you'd pay for in the area. Pool, sauna, pub all on site. If you want to relax and have a truly memorable experience, this is the place to go. Headed to NH for a skiing getaway this past Valentine's Day, and we decided to use a Bed&breakfast.com certificate we had received as a Christmas gift. This was my very first time staying at an Inn, as I've always found myself to be more of a "hotel-type gal" (as corny as that sounds!) I don't know, I guess the Inn style always kinda spooked me out. Well, needless to say - I've been missing out all these years! What a wonderful time we had! We knew this Inn was worth 5 stars from the second we walked through the door. We have stayed here twice this ski season so far! The first time our room was upgraded due to the previous guest didn't open the fireplace damper before lighting their fire. There was only a faint smell in the room we booked, but we ended up in a suite called Paradise, which was really wonderful! The Inn is well kept by a very dedicated staff, the beds have the finest linens and super comfortable! The common rooms are cozy and inviting to sit by a fire, play pool in the lounge, enjoy the hot tub in the sunroom, or play their many games. Breakfast was great every day, and we especially liked coming home to fresh baked cookies after skiing. There is always assorted coffee and tea's available. We have enjoyed getting to know Lyn, Frank, Christine and Peter at various times during our stays! Jackson is a great NE Town to visit and this particular Inn is the best I've stayed at. My husband and I stayed here for Labor Day weekend! We absolutely loved the place. It had a classic 1960's feel and the staff were incredibly hospitable. The breakfast was good and they also provide tea and coffee all day and have homemade baked snacks in the afternoon. It's about 15 mins from the Conway area, so it's quiet and right by the river, but close to a busy area if you need anything from that area. It is also pretty close to the mountains. We stayed three nights in mid April. At first we were a little iffy because the exterior looked so homey as if it was just someone's house. But once we checked in and got to our room (Thoreau Falls), we were impressed with the overall cleanliness of the rooms and accommodations. We were the only guests in the main house as there was another couple staying at the cottage. We took advantage of this fact by making use of the pub room with darts and billiards table. There is a self-serve coffee and tea station which was well used during our stay. The afternoon cookies were good and welcomed. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed our stay as all we could hear was the running water of the Ellis River. Breakfast was very good and they were very accommodating if you wanted a simple breakfast if not in the mood for their specials. There was never a problem with any requests we had. The owners and manager were very nice and hospitable. The cute dachshund Emma was hospitable during our stay as well! No complaints. Has everything you could ask for. Well, that's not true, the only weird thing was the wash sink outside the bathroom and in front of the bed. Was a little awkward to have to leave the bathroom to wash your hands after using but it wasn't too bad. Overall, it was a very relaxing stay. We will definitely return. We hope to try the Paradise Falls room next time. P.S. The bacon was so good that I asked for a plate of bacon for our last breakfast. It was delicious. read more

We have been comming to the iinn for longer than Frank and Lynn have been owners,it was a nice little place to stay. We have family in the area and are up in Jackson at least 3or4 times a year,maybe more.As frequent inn travelers,from up north to down south,(and may I add that some have been very historical ones, this is by far the cleanest and most freindly one we have ever been to.Not only are the Frank and Lynn two of the nicest people but Christine and Chrissy are the best anyone could encounter on a vacation,Their smiles and willingness to please goes way beyond their required services.Never have my husban or I ever had a complaint or critisism of the Inn.For the last 6 years we spend New Years Eve at the Inn and look forward to our stay. The people we meet and who are also return guests are fun to be with,and make breakfast enjoyable each morning.Going back to Ellis River is like going back home each time we return,we are sure of the same kindness and service that we always receive.So if you are looking for a lovely way to relax and be treated like you are family, and most important be in a clean and warm environment this is my recommendation.
