This place was awesome for my wife and I skiing Black Mountain for the first time. The manager Joe is a good guy. Place is super clean and well maintained. We had a king room...much more than we needed but made the two night stay very comfortable. It was great to slowly wake up to the sounds of the mountain being prepped and coming alive. We stayed Monday/Tuesday...so pub was not open. We will return to experience that. For a cozy couple getaway to ski Black...I can't recommend this place enough. Oh...it is right in front of the mountain...so you can actually walk through the parking lot to get to the lodge...maybe 30 seconds...a minute if you walk slowly. My family stayed for two nights in a two bedroom cottage. Checkin was a breeze and the inn keeper was very nice. This quaint location was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Our toddler slept well because he had his own bedroom (we brought our pack n play for him to sleep in) and us parents could chill by the cozy gas fireplace with a glass of wine once he went to bed. We were only a few miles from Storyland so we went first thing when they opened, stayed a couple hours, came back for our son's nap and we were able to hit the park again until closing. While the restaurant wasn't open during our stay, there were plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from. The pool was nice (no one else was in it) and though it was cold, our toddler still had fun. Beautiful spot! But our stay at the inn left us somewhat disappointed. Despite reserving a suite for three guests, the sofa bed was not made upon arrival, forcing us to request sheets and blankets and make the bed ourselves. Additionally, there were not enough towels for all of us, so we had to share. We were also disappointed to find that the restaurant was closed on Saturday and that breakfast service had been discontinued. It felt like the inn was missing those small touches that make a stay special. This was meant to be a special mother-daughter weekend, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to our expectations. We understand the inn is under new management, and must have come before all the kinks have been worked out. read more

I can't rave about this adorable inn enough! My girl friends and I stopped into Whitney's Inn for one night on our whirlwind New England trip last September and immediately fell in love with the charming inn that perfectly captured everything we thought a New England B&B should be. My only regret is that we could only stay for one night. I hope to return to New England someday and will keep this on my list of places to revisit. We booked a two bedroom suite that was expansive. We couldn't believe it when we opened our door and realized that it was basically our own private home for the night, complete with 1.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen and a sitting room. One bedroom had a queen sized bed and the other had two twins. Since we were only here for a night, we didn't even get to take full advantage of everything. For breakfast, we got to choose from a few options for an extra $10/person. I chose the French toast with a side of hash browns. Our waitress was very sweet and apologetic when she realized that she'd forgotten the strawberries and bananas that were supposed to come with the French toast. The dining room windows framed the picturesque country hillside of the property and it was very peaceful setting to begin the day. read more

I can't recommend Whitney's Inn more. If you're looking for a quaint, charming, old-school, Bed and Breakfast that's off the beaten path, then Whitney's Inn is for you! I was on a New England road trip with some friends and we waited until the last minute to book our lodging. I really wanted a Bed and Breakfast at least one of our overnights because that's what I have always thought of when I dreamed of visiting the area. There weren't many options left on our route, so we were forced to look a little outside of the towns we were driving through, and I'm glad that was the case because that is what led me to booking Whitney's Inn as it was about 30 minutes out of our way and didn't break the bank. There is a cute little town about 10-15 minutes down the road and the Inn is nestled up in the surrounding hills. The rooms all seemed to be a bit different and the one we ended up with was perfect for 4 women. The Inn itself is a large cabin with a beautiful dining area for breakfast that overlooks a grassy hill (or snowy hill in the winter I am sure) through a large floor to ceiling window. It was breathtaking. It's also connected to the cutest barn-like building which is actually a restaurant that is decorated to the nines and offers live music and a bar during dinner. I would really love to come back and stay for a couple of days with my boyfriend as it would definitely be a romantic getaway. read more

This is the worst place I've ever stayed.Booked for a New Year's Eve wedding and In an hour of staying here I killed two cockroaches. The water went out about 3 times in 24 hours. Told the front desk, they were less than concerned. Wasn't able to shower or use toilet for over 24 hours. Missing light bulbs in the living room. We arrived to the room in disarray, no toilet paper and the last tenants trash in the trash can. Was afraid to even sleep on the bed only slept on top of the sheets. The owner was in Florida and couldn't be contacted by phone only email. This place must've been nice about 20 years ago but it's just out of date and in absolute squalor. If you care about where you stay don't stay here. read more

We really enjoyed our stay the last four day's at Whitney's! The location is absolutely perfect - close to the ski mountains, lakes, Conway, Mt. Washington. The inn itself is adorable and perfect for what we needed. Two families with four kiddos in a cottage we had enough space and amenities. They offer breakfast at the inn each morning and only charge $10 for each adult - the kiddos were free! The food was delicious and the service was amazing. Black mountain is accessible right from the property. The staff even went above and beyond to print out documents we needed to sign to close on our house. I cannot recommend this place more. You've found your sweet spot for winter or summer play! read more

Stayed there with my wife saturday night 6/1/24. went back because we went there 10 yrs ago and it was a memorable experience. Not anymore. False advertising and poor room/ground conditions; 1) Shovel Handle pub closed- for the season we were told. We checked in June first- isn't this the season?! Lied and said it was stated on the website- it was not. Not on booking page and Facebook link was last update Feb 2022. Would not have booked if I knew restaurant was closed. 2) AC broken; Was working when we checked in at 3-4 pm. Stopped working around 11 pm no matter what setting I put it on. Did not feel like getting dressed and trying to find a manger in the middle of the night and then argue about changing rooms. So suffered through a sweaty night. No sleep. 3) Tubs are dangerous: No anti-slip pad. very dangerous taking a shower with curved bottom. I read of other guests complaining of the same- I mean how hard is it to make the small upgrade and prevent a lawsuit. Seems like they don't care. 4) Rude/disrespectful on check-in. Pulled up to young teenage girl looking at her Iphone. I asked "Is this the check- in entrance?" no answer. Didn't even acknowledge me. I got closer and moved behind her and asked " so this is the door to the main desk?" still no answer. Stayed completely focused on her hone texting/ surfing social media- this is a real sickness in this country and the last thing I want to see when leaving the big city. I get into main lobby and there is another teenage girl curled up in the fetal position on the couch right there on check-in. Not sure she was ok. Just odd first impression. Manager Joe finally greeted me and made all the disclaimers about who they were owned by now, extra resort fees, Shovel Handle Pub being closed, and how the previous owners never updated the website. 5) Grounds unkept: outdoor picnic area very run down, pond over- grown, cut lumber everywhere, weeds, overgrown brush- no Kayaks paced out for use. Were locked up and no paddles available. Plenty of other nice Inn's in the Aea that try much harder for same price- stay at one of those. read more

Joe and the staff could not possibly have done more to ensure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, and have a thoroughly enjoying hiking vacation. The service was outstanding, the accommodations comfortable, charming and very clean. Our breakfast omelettes were made with fresh eggs and produce, and we loved them. Joe was helpful with suggestions of what to see and where to go, and everyone was so friendly! Eh.... Not really my kind of place, well if it was 1865 and I was a lumberjack maybe I'd have a different outlook. First of all... we had a 2nd floor room with 6 windows and NO 2ND MEANS OF EGRESS. Only way out is down a very narrow hallway to the stairs leading down and out... Hello!!!! WTF. am I the only one that has noticed this??? We were here for a wedding. Food was terrible at the shovel something pub. Not good at all. Grounds out back aren't really well kept. I understand that this is New Hampshire and places tend to lean towards the "rustic" look,but it is 2021 people. We stayed when the Inn at Jackson was sold out. Arrived late (10:30 pm) and, as expected, no one was there. We self-guided ourselves to our room. The place was oddly quite like in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. We left at 7:30 am having never seen or heard anyone. Breakfast in town at Yesterday's Cafe was fantastic. I stayed in a suite one night for a wedding on the premises. I thought it was a nice place for a wedding (next to Black Mountain ski area). The food was good, and the hotel/restaurant (Shovel Handle) had a nice cozy, ski country vibe. I thought the staff did an excellent job. Our experience at Whitney's Inn was out of this world! We booked a night there last minute on a whim during an impromptu road trip from NJ to Mass and out to NH. the woman at the desk was so sweet and friendly she greeted us like friends and recommended places to eat. They also upgraded us to a bigger room free of charge. We ended up spending our night In the honey moon suit which was a large cozy homey room with a gigantic insanely comfortable bed. It's was exactly the unplugged relaxed get away we needed. The room had a pretty view of the trees and mountains plants of places to sit and drink your coffee. It was very quite. The surrounding towns were adorable with plenty to do. Everyone was very friendly. We can't wait to go back. read more

For an inn that I have not yet stayed overnight at, I could not possibly be more enthusiastic about Whitney's Inn. Confused? Read on. My fiance and I became engaged in March; like every other thirty-something in a long term relationship, I "might" have already researched wedding venues (wink wink). The things most important to me included the following: A barn (or something resembling a barn) in which to hold the reception, great food, and a team running things that "got it." Man oh man, does Whitney's Inn hit it right on the nail. The grounds are beautiful and charming; located at the base of Black Mountain, there are surprises (a fully stocked trout pond, a heated pool, a BBQ area, and of course The Shovel Handle Pub) around every corner. The Shovel Handle Pub would have been THE perfect place to hold our reception. It is a three-story barn that doubles as a restaurant and comfortably seats 125 people. Talk about charming. This place is rustic yet charming and not the least bit stuffy; as with everything else, the owners are willing to work with you to transform the barn to look just as you'd like on your wedding day. Moreover, the guest rooms that your family and friends would be staying at are spacious and very well fit the Adirondack theme that so many people love. From everything I've heard, the food simply cannot be beat. Their wedding menu options can be mixed and matched and include everything from stuffed chicken and steak tips to lobster thermador and roasted duck. They're also very happy to bring in any type of beers you want to hook up to the tap for your special day. When I asked the owner if we could create a sangria bar or milk and cookie option at the end of the night (even though neither of those things are listed as options), his response was, "of course." Finally (and here is where I really gush), everything you've heard about their owner Don Bilger is true; he's both a consummate professional and an all around wonderful, down-to-earth guy. Of all of the wedding venues I've visited, Don is the one person who I felt would absolutely understand my vision and, along with his team, do whatever was in his power to see it become a reality. Also, he's extremely quick when responding to emails and phone calls. He's got a great sense of humor and was extremely patient when taking both me and my fiance, and on another occasion, my parents, on a tour of the property. He'll explain in fullest detail how events at Whitney's work and make it known that they're flexible and "not a wedding factory." Talk about refreshing. I'm sad to say that we have to have our wedding closer to home due to some family illnesses, but I am entirely confident that anyone who seeks a destination wedding in a scenic, charming area is in for a completely smooth, wonderful event. I give Whitney's my most enthusiastic recommendation. read more

I stayed in one of the adjacent cabins, it's big and set up to entertain with a fridge that can hold all the booze one can bring! The owner was the main host and what a chill guy, we were drinking late on Friday and he let us stay in the bar, play our music and make our own tab on additional drinks we had. You don't get that at a Hilton! Def. recommend to anyone going up this way, plus it's litterally at the chair lifts for Black Mountain. read more

Spent a long weekend here in January, attending a family wedding. We really didn't know what to expect going into and we were definitely pleasantly surprised. For a little bit more, we stayed in one of the cabins. It was perfect for our family of four, just a few steps away from the main building and a bit further removed from the larger guest areas. Free breakfast was included every morning - and the breakfast was really good and much more than we expected - pancakes, omelettes, waffles. I would only give 1 star, but the inn was a nice location and does have a possible chance if they could change the way it is operated. So My wife and I, Never heard of this place before, our friends where getting married, and they picked this place as their venue. We arrived at 4 pm on Friday, My wife was still in my truck, and I was checking in, When all of a sudden, I see this redneck looking man, with no shirt sleeves, NASCAR hat on, Screaming F this and F that, You Fing C u next Tuesday.. an he was saying it and looking at my truck. I looked at the front desk lady, and said you may want to call the police, If this man is talking to my wife like this, we are going to have a huge problem, Right as I say this, my wife walks in, She was like he was not saying this to me. She had no idea who this guy was or why he was going off like this. Then the front desk lady says, oh that is our MAINTENANCE MAN!!! So having to go empty my truck of our luggage, I walk back to my truck, (I told the wife to stay inside) The guy is still cussing a storm up, another female who works there is trying to stop the cussing and he starts screaming at her, she then says well your fired.. good job. So I grab my luggage and we go upstairs. Our room is nice, but we notice very fast, their are DEAD FLIES all over the room. I tell the wife, well this place is old, and we do not mind old, it means character.. which this place does have. I tell her, it is Friday, most likely no one stayed in the room since last sat/sun. So they cleaned on Sun/Mon... So chance is the flies died between. So we change into our dress outfits for the rehearsal dinner. The room had a small smell not a bad one, more of a not aired out in 5 days, so we cracked a window and left the ac on fan while we went to the Rehearsal Dinner. The Rehearsal Dinner was the worse dinner I have ever seen. I kid you not. I was told that the groom and bride attended a taste testing months before and the food that was served, and the food that was presented that night, where 2 different meals. They served, Hamburgers and hot dogs, and chicken kabobs. The served salad also. The hamburgers were raw in the middle, not just a little pink, but blood oozing out the center of the patty. Raw meat. The chicken kabobs where also raw. To the point, that every person on my table, stopped eating and sent the food back. My wife and I, After the rehearsal dinner ended, Drove into Conway and ate dinner at a nice restaurant. (We left a great review for them on yelp). When we returned from the town, and entered our room, it smelled terrible. This time of smoke. Seems the employees smoke directly outside the window, and the smoke was pulled into the room via the fan on the a.c. Thank god my suit, and my wife's bridesmaid dress was in a suit bag, protecting the smoke from getting into the fabric. We went to bed. Saturday morning, We awoke, Hoping to have breakfast. Well not to be for us, My wife and I went down, An nothing could be altered on the menu, Well we have food allergies. So We go to get into our truck, and this Silver full size chevy pickup comes flying into the front driveway and skids to a stop on the gravel. We where still a ways back walking out, and To my shock, It is the SAME MAINTENANCE MAN. He is not cussing today, just wearing the same clothes as the day before and looks just as happy to be there. We get into our truck, and drive down the road to Yesterday dinner which was a awesome breakfast joint we found. (Also left them a awesome review). We came back to the hotel and we attended our friends wedding, and it was beautiful, She looked amazing and he looked great. The wedding venue where the ceremony took place was very very well done only thing I would say, which can not be changed now, is should have been moved a little further back off the road. The Dinner, Well lets just say, When you ate at a place on Friday, and was like that, would you try it again on Saturday? An IF you did, and it was a horrible mistake, That should be shame on you. You should have known better. We did not give them a chance, We made late reservations in town, for 9 pm, and we left the wedding party at 830, had dinner at 9. Enjoyed it very much. (left a yelp review for them). We returned and went to bed. We headed home in the morning, we wanted to stop at Yesterdays dinner again, but they where slammed packed. So we went a little further out. We stopped at Kringles, Which is a little Market, and a big slice of heaven. We stopped their friday on our way to the inn. An grabbed a sub for me, and meatballs in a cup for the wife. She loved them, and I loved my sub. So when we where there. I remembered they served breakfast. My wife an I got bacon and eggs and home fries. awesome. In Closing, They need to realize. They serve the public, Not everyone can have the same things. An respect your guest. Stayed here Columbus Day Weekend for my sister's wedding and we couldn't have been happier. My family of 5 stayed in the rooftop cottage and it was perfect!!! Everything about the Inn was wonderful! The staff, owner, restaurant, firepit, rehearsal dinner/karaoke/bbq, ceremony, and reception were all amazing! It was an amazing stay and we would love to come back to visit! Made our reservations back in November for a couples trip in February. We ended up in room 19 which is mentioned in a previous review, what a miserable location for a room. High traffic with a lot of door slams and foot stomping to clean snow off boots directly outside room. This room is poorly insulated so you hear everything outside the room and there is a lot of activity. The rooms on the upper level may be better situated so if you make a reservation tell them not to give you rooms 19 or 20. Our friends were in the cabins separate from the inn and they seemed to enjoy them. If you go to the shovel handle pub connected to the inn dress warm if you are sitting on the lower level because it is not insulated and very cold. Upper lever is fine. read more

We received a B&B gift card from friends and there were a larger number of participating inns in New England. We opted for a fall weekend in Jackson, NH for some hiking. When we hike, we like to bring our dog. So, we found the Whitney Inn, which welcomed Flynn. We loved it! The room was nice. Obviously, as a dog-friendly room it's not their best room but it was perfect.Staff was super friendly, the grounds were beautiful, the freshly made breakfast (included in our stay) was delicious, and the Shovel Handle Pub was really fun. Old buildings can't contain the ADHD vibrations of misbehaved shit kids running rampant. A very pretty location, with friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here when our cousin held his wedding and reception on the grounds. It has a great old-fashioned feel to it, but with lots of modern touches such as wifi and flat screen TVs. Some of the rooms need a bit of freshening up, in my opinion. read more

We were here for a long weekend for a wedding in early July, and Whitney's exceeded our expectations in absolutely every way. Our room (the suite upstairs) was very clean, bright and both rustic and charming and modern and space-efficient. It was a pleasure waking up every morning to the sound of the wind and the river across the street. The common spaces in the inn are warm and inviting, and the fire pit out front is a particularly great place to gather with friends and family. The country breakfast included with the room was outstanding. Instead of your standard buffet or dull continental breakfast, the kitchen cooks a limited menu of omelets, pancakes and waffles fresh to order every morning from 8 to 9:30am, supplemented by fresh fruits, juices, coffee, tea and cereals. The breakfast staff was fantastic: quick, friendly and relaxed, and the chef kept food coming out of the kitchen at almost superhuman speed. Special praise needs to go to Paul, the restaurant manager, who was our point person for the wedding as the owner was out of town. He is truly worth his weight in gold: he was unflappable, perfectly organized, responsive to questions and concerns and, above all, was a genuinely warm and comforting presence. I've worked in a large and upscale wedding and event venue, and I've seen scores of catering managers and wedding planners who paste a giant, fake grin on their faces and speak with a professional, mannered friendliness. Paul was not at all like that: he was real, down to earth and the perfect person to have behind the scenes. Whitney's should thank the stars that they have him. That friendliness and realness was a trait that the whole staff at Whitney's shared. They pitched in with ideas and help whenever needed, and the wedding, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing went off without a hitch. Food and beverage was of a uniformly high quality, and the barn was a particularly wonderful place to be late into the night, dancing and chatting with friends and family. The grounds and facilities are clean and secluded (at least in the summer: I imagine the atmosphere is slightly different in the winter with the ski resort next door operating), and there's a pool, a cool picnic grove next to the river and a small pond. It's not a glamorous place, but I liked it so much better than both Eagle Mountain House and The Wentworth, where I have stayed previously. If you are looking for an archetypal New England Inn for a getaway weekend or a unique and intimate venue for a wedding in the White Mountains, this is your place. read more

I stayed here this past weekend. There were some positives about my stay along with some negatives. Positives: *It's got your classic NH old time barn/inn feel. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the decor, it was all lovely and what I expected. *There was a made to order breakfast, not included in the room fee, however it was a nice addition to have, that is on the cheaper side of the dollar- $7, and you can get an omelette made to your liking *The checkout desk staff was very nice and informative *The beds were comfortable *Ate dinner at the Shovel Handle Pub, and although it was exceptionally busy, we were seated rather quickly, food was pretty good, and the service was adequate *It was also a hop from Black Mtn, where we had our vendor event Negatives: **The room was COLD! Granted we had our stay occur on the coldest night of the yr to date, however, the room was freezing! We also could not heat up the room quickly, d/t only the heater in the bathroom, being functional. **Our room was #19, meaning, we were next to the door that goes into the pub, and also in a heavily trafficked area. That being said, it would have been an enjoyable stay, had not the door, all guests use to enter/exit the Inn, been used every 2 minutes, with a nice LOUD slam. The entrance door, needs to sign, where it states to please shut the door carefully/quietly. The door slammed every single time it was opened and it went on for hours that night :( **The rooms 19 and 20 are located in the heavily traveled hallway that connects the main inn to the pub. These rooms are quite visible to passerby. The curtains that was in these rooms are not adequate for privacy **Breakfast was offered during a one and 1/2 hr time period in the morning. Had the waffles and french toast. The strawberries were not fresh, they were strawberries in juice ( I would have made a different selection had I known) The waffle was dry and had a nutty/cinnamon taste to it. **Communication at check in. The desk staff who checked us in that night, did not inform us that we would need to charge breakfast to our room or get a slip, stating we were going to get breakfast the following morning **Parking. Parking was a miss, mass of cars strewn about a dirt lot. There was no clear spots/rules/etc for parking. ** Lighting. It was very dark when trying to maneuver in front of the inn and the pub. No outside lights to guide your path to and from I would stay again, however it would be in main house, where no one can peek in on me or keep me awake with a consistent door slam read more

There is nothing negative at all to say about Whitney's Inn in Jackson, NH. I had an amazing time! When my partner and I arrived, we were offered a free upgrade and got to pick which available room we wanted. The first had a great view of a field so we went with that, and we were very glad that we did since we saw horses in the field throughout each day that we stayed. The inn offers cookies and refreshments (delicious cookies) daily and a country breakfast in their adjoining dining room. The breakfast was fantastic! If you visit, definitely get the package that includes it. There's a pond in walking distance, and you can use kayaks or grill. It's a private pond so only those staying at the inn will be able to use it. The room was fabulous. I don't think I've ever seen a bed as big as the one we had! I loved the moose themed decor too. The only quibble was that the bathroom was small. If you need a lot of room to get ready then you might want to ask about a room with a slightly larger bathroom; it was fine for us though, and the shower was great. I really loved the bedspread- a moose theme and very comfortable. Since the room had so many windows, it got rather hot but the ac cooled things right down, and it felt very pleasant at night. It also had a little television that had many local channels. I can't wait to return (hopefully in the fall!), and I have to say this was the nicest hotel that I have ever stayed in- pure perfection! read more

My fiance and I received a gift certificate for 2 nights at Whitney's Inn. We got in late Friday night after a long drive and the inn keeper helped us get settled and gave us some dinner recommendations. Also included in our gift certificate was a bottle of wine and cheese upon arrival. I loved the wine because of it's currant flavors. My fiance didn't care for it as much. I'm a self-proclaimed cheese snob, so I wasn't impressed by the cheese cubes. My fiance didn't mind those! Because it was the end of February vacation week, every place was packed with families! Despite all the people, we had a relaxing retreat at the end of the hallway that seemed to block out any noise. The room was nice - just big enough for everything we brought, bur cozy too. I like B&Bs, but not ones that are ancient. Whitney's Inn was just updated in 2007 so there are new fixtures and updated decor. The room was super clean and linens were fantastic too. The complimentary breakfast was hearty and the staff was speedy and friendly, despite dealing with a packed dining room every morning. I think they must have run out of the toast and bacon we loved so much on Saturday, because on Sunday it was just your normal toast and bacon that anyone can buy. Though we didn't spend a lot of time in our room, it was a really comfortable stay with great staff. We would definitely go back. read more

We loved hosting our wedding with Whitney's Inn. It's so much more than a wedding venue - it's really a lasting experience. Don and his team make you feel like family, and that graciousness extends before and after your big day. We can't wait to go back! From the first tour we took on the property, to the tasting (where "wedding alumni" come back for a weekend getaway), to our wedding weekend, to their follow up post event... we felt unbelievably secure in our decision to work with Don. I alone must have had a thousand questions and called at least 30 times - the team was patient, helpful, and professional with each correspondence. They worked with us to outline each and every detail of our big day - setting up the venue in perfect alignment to our vision. The staff was incredible. Like most weddings we had a wide spectrum of personalities, and the team helped us ensure that everyone had fun without getting into any trouble. They did this with minimal interference and no added stress to us (the bride and groom). In my opinion, a wedding is all about the details, and no one does that better than this venue! We had handmade complimentary cookies upon check in, welcome bags for each guest waiting in rooms, a bonfire each night including at our welcome BBQ by the pond, live music at the pub on Friday before our wedding (which was extended upon the groom's father's request), a perfect "fairy like" woodland setting next the babbling creek for our ceremony, gorgeous cocktail hour outside the Inn and Barn, a night filled with dancing and fun at our reception, and an incredibly delicious brunch send-off. We were able to create this personalized and very full wedding weekend "experience" for less than a single night at other venues, and we didn't have to compromise on anything. The food was on point - the staff ensured we got to experience it despite the hustle and bustle of the day, and the steak was out of this world! A guest was never without a beverage. The music was perfect. The ceremony was well-coordinated and clear for each participant including vendors (which after being a bridesmaid in a few weddings, I know is challenging). And most importantly, everyone had fun!!! There were no absurd rules or hidden costs - Everyone raved about the experience, and we literally can't wait to return. Jackson is a perfectly quaint New England town, and Whitney's Inn does everything possible to accentuate Jackson's natural magic. It was a perfect wedding experience, and we'd recommend it to any couple. In fact, our guests have already recommended it to their engaged friends - they must want to come back to Whitney just as much as we do! read more

Wow! What a charming atmosphere. The staff and management (Joe) were super friendly and accomodating (I goofed up my reservation but they bent over backward to help us rectify). My wife and I can't wait to get back up there. We spent a rare evening away from the kids and it was simply picture perfect. VERY NOISY - NOT FOR COUPLES. I'm not writing this to be vindictive, but during the busy winter season, be forewarned, this is not the place to go for a quiet and/or romantic getaway. I would like to prevent other couples from our bad experience and frustration. Kids screaming up and down hallways and all hours, doors slamming and shaking the entire room, and drunken guests easily heard outside through the shoddy windows. Our room was tiny and badly maintained, which wouldn't have been the end of the world had it been a peaceful environment. The two stars, instead of one, is for the efforts of the very sweet inkeeper attempting (most in vain) to keep the noise at bay. Supposedly, it was caused by a drunken church group, and she gave us a gift certificate to their pub to make up for the terrible stay. We appreciate that effort, and will gladly come to the pub. However, we will never stay here again. The set up of the inn, drunk church groups or not, makes it conducive to a very noisy environment indeed. read more

Really rustic venue (barn looking / shed atmosphere) - good that you can rent the entire place for an event, but be ready to welcome all kinds of bugs into your room and bed. Someone else wrote about this, yes, poorly insulated walls indeed and everything can be heard. read more

Spent the weekend here as part of a wedding group. We had one of the ground-floor rooms between the inn and the Shovel Handle Pub and loved it - easy to get to but private once the curtains were closed. Innkeeper was extremely friendly and nice. Breakfast was great - plenty of hot food options, and plenty of cold food if you're still hungry. The pool is small and shallow, but the lounge chairs have a nice view of the Black Mountain ski area, including a lift. It's comparably far from Route 16 than other places in Jackson, but is still only a 7-8 minute drive and the extra distance gives it a nice seclusion. I hope to go back! read more

My husband and I stayed at the Whitney inn recently with my sister and her husband - we purchased the outdoor package and couldn't have been happier. The accommodations were comfy, the inn friendly and well kept, and best yet the inn keeper was caring and FUN. From singing Bruce with the band at the Shovel Handle to showing us the bear family in a nearby tree, Don made sure we had a memorable, authentic experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed the horse ridding, hiking, kayaking and the beautiful grounds. We can't wait to come back with the kids! read more

Old and rustic, the inn has its charm, especially from the road. Inside, just old. Our room was the size of a walk-in closet, with the bed taking up half the floor area. No chairs or desk, so no room to relax. Single pane windows and a noisy heating system. Dim lighting. Poorly maintained,--the windows had broken sash cords and the room seemed dusty. read more
