This is a newer hotel I. The north conway area. It is clean and there is a restaurant on the third floor.

Spruce Moose Lodge & Cottages

Spruce Moose Lodge & Cottages

Leon and Nellie have been friends of my family for years (even longer than the decades we've been…read morecoming to New Hampshire), but somehow we'd never stayed at the Spruce Moose. Even without the familial connection, I'd be absolutely in love with this place. Family and friends gathered this past weekend for a memorial hike in honor of my dad, who passed in 2007. Leon and Nellie went out of their way to accommodate us, down to even offering additional rooms when some extra guests appeared and getting up extra early to make us to-go egg sandwiches we could take long on our hike up Mt. Washington. Both our group and the other guests at the Inn were treated like treasured friends in their home and it felt like a big old family reunion for us all. The Spruce Moose is the perfect location---a short walk to the adorable North Conway village, and a quick drive to countless hiking options. The decor makes you feel like you're visiting friends in a luxurious mountain home. Zeb and Avery, the two trusty labs, greet you at the door and will cuddle you on the couch for hours if you let them. The beds are comfy, and the rooms contain no tvs so you can truly enjoy the nature around you (though there IS wi-fi if you need your technology fix). Breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling. Tea and coffee are available at any time. It was an amazing weekend, in no small part to Leon and Nellie. I will be back to the Spruce Moose the next time I come to North Conway!

Avery and Jed are the most welcoming doggies, I was only with them for one night and I miss them terribly. The breakfast was excellent, coffee and tea are available all the time. My room was beautiful, the shower had great water pressure, and the lodge itself is super warm and cozy. I honestly felt like I was visiting relatives I just hadn't met yet.

There were more or less 15 kids in the pool and hot tub screaming and doing cannon-balls into the water. Tried to go a few times at varying times of the day, each time it was packed. I love kids, but this was a downer as adults trying to find some peace away. Also not sure why there are signs in the pool area calling it a "spa"-it's not. It's just a small hot tub in the corner of the already small pool.

DO NOT STAY HERE. We…read morebooked a non refundable room for another family member on our trip who then didn't come. Because it was non refundable and I was already charged, we had no choice but to suck it up and stay. The night employee, Megan, was the only decent thing about this hotel. She was polite and friendly and assisted us with checking in. When we got up to our room, the door was propped open. We went into the room only to discover it was DISGUSTING. The tables weren't wiped down, there was mold on the AC unit, that didn't even work. Our room never dropped below 72. The shower was all rusty, the blankets were stained and there was hair in one of the beds that clearly wasn't from us. Being 2 hours from home, it was 930 at night, we didn't have a choice but suck it up and stay, I was already out $300. The following morning we went to speak with a manager and met the "assistant general manager" who was nothing but an absolute BITCH. I've never met someone with so much attitude and disrespect. She wouldn't listen to our complaints, despite having pictures for proof, only stated she could comp us $50. She accused us of asking for a free night when that's not even what we asked for. We weren't asking for a free night, but more than just $50. She refused to provide us with the manager of the hotel's information. Only stated the manager was in Florida with a family funeral. She wouldn't answer any questions just stated that nothing was her fault. I told her that the room conditions certainly weren't our fault and that is on the hotel. She rolled her eyes. Would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. I've already filed a complaint with corporate, who provided me with the email for the manager and I will be following up with them as well.

I'm sure I caught some sort of disease from the filthy showers, floors, bedding, air, etc. Years may have been shaven off of my life due to this stay. I am shocked that this place passes whatever codes it takes to stay in business. We were thankfully only here to sleep, but I think sleeping in the car may have been a better option. I slept better on my flight in economy class in the middle seat on the way here than I did at this motel. I could not get the back door leading to our patio to lock, so I was waiting for someone to come in at any moment and abduct me. There was a bus driver there when we arrived and he was sleeping in the bus, now we understand why he opted for that. I wish I would've slept in my car as well. My husband told me the walk from the parking lot (with one light in the pitch black and questionable characters smoking in the parking lot) back to the hotel was one of the scariest moments of his life. Thank god I packed Lysol wipes, I think cleaning as much as I did was the only thing that got me through the hours I was there. I had to mentally talk myself into taking a shower. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't. I was probably cleaner after the several hikes I did that day versus after I emerged from that. This should be a challenge on fear factor! The woman at the front desk was so sweet and I hope she finds a better place to work because she does not deserve to be in such a toxic environment.
