Brown/black stains on mattress cover. Suspected mold
Jennifer H.

The worst place I've ever stayed at hands down, and I do a lot of traveling. I have a mold allergy, and the first thing I noticed in the room was the over powering smell of mold and mildew. The next thing I saw were black stains on the carpet and brown/black stains on the mattress cover. It was late when we arrived and it was 4th of July weekend so we had no choice to stay. The beds were simply the most rock hard horrible beds I've ever slept on. I can sleep anywhere as a general rule. I got about 20 minutes of sleep total that night between the rock hard beds and my allergies going crazy (suspect mold). The next morning I spoke to the owner/manager, telling him I got zero sleep, and that I have mold allergy and had a hard time breathing. I showed him the brown/black spots on the mattress. He said that someone "spilled something" on the mattress cover although the spots were all around the mattress cover. I asked if he could smell mold. He said he could not. He flatly and rudely refused a refund, nor offered to switch rooms. We were stuck for another night, as everything was full. We had to purchase 100 worth of egg crate mattress, pillows, blankets as well as melatonin so I could sleep. The next morning I woke up with pink eye. The Dr said it was secondary to my allergies (mold). In addition other things--old flat pillows, old thin blankets, very very old outdated furniture; very small tv and handicapped railing which was broken. Horrible horrible run down neglected place. When I posted my review on Google it was somehow removed. Be ware! I think these stellar reviews are fabricated or the bad reviews are somehow take down.

Now this could have been an average place but what made it so much more were the owners Kevin and Vicky.

She answered any questions we had and even gave suggestions on things we could do in the area. The office has coffee via a Keurig as well as a microwave for guests to use. We stayed in one of the rooms with a king bed and a balcony, which has a view of the mountains. It was nice to hang out on the balcony and relax after spending the day out. The room also has a table, a coffeemaker, TV and air conditioning. There's also a restuarant attached to the lodge downstairs(The Grateful Skier), which is convenient if you're looking for something to eat or get some drinks. They had trivia night and live music night during our stay, which we enjoyed. Definitely check The Grateful Skier out while staying here. The lodge also has an indoor pool, which I believe is open all year long. The pool area is warm(you can feel the difference in temperature as soon as you step foot in the room). The pool is big and we enjoyed our time in it(we went in the morning and it probably helped that no one else was there lol). Overall, The Kancamagus Lodge is a great inexpensive lodging option if you're staying in Lincoln, NH. The prices for what they offer is a great deal. Besides the things I already mentioned, they're also a great location as there's many things to do in close proximity, whether it's restuarants, stores or seeing the gorgeous nature of the area(The Lost River Caves, The River Gorge, etc). This is our go to place whenever we're staying in the area!!

We went during the off season and since it wasn't very full, he upgraded our room for free so we had extra space and a couch, which we really appreciated. The rooms were nice and quiet in the evening, probably because we were mostly alone in our area. In the morning though, the soundproofing was definitely lacking. I took off one star because there was loud power drilling starting at 6:30 a.m. that went on for about an hour, which was pretty insane. Breakfast was good. I especially liked the grab and go yogurts, and the coffee was available all day in a really nice machine that grinds the beans fresh for each brew. The pool area could use a little maintenance since there were a few issues, but overall it was still nice to have access to a hot tub.

Showers are large and have good shower heads. The room has a refrigerator but no small freezer so your ice packs don't have a place to freeze up again for the cooler. My only disappointment was the single seating place in the room. The chair is awful to sit in if you want to watch TV. (Note to Hampton Inn managers - get decent club chairs that you can put your arms up on and relax. Not everyone likes to lie down in bed to watch TV. Otherwise, nice hotel. I can't say about breakfast because it started too late for me to take advantage of it (opens 6:30 on weekends).

Comfortable beds and the AC works well. I stayed in room # 402 and the bathroom had a major flaw - two heavy glass panel doors for the shower would not stay shut, no matter how I tried to position them. Both panels would slam open constantly - only options were to have the bathroom floor flood while showering, or try to shower with one hand while holding the door shut with the other. Not good - needs to be checked asap... if I had been staying longer than one night, I would have had to mention it for sure.

The main part of the house is very small but nice with little stocking of the beverage "amenities". First impression of the room was disappointing for several reasons but the main first impression was that it was not cleaned well nor do the owners care if it's cleaned well. The bathroom was the first real impression where a filthy shower mat hung on the towel rack, the hand towel had crust on it and a dried, unwashed blood stain on the comforter. iTrip, who is "managing" this place was very prompt about returning my emails UNTIL I responded to THEIR email asking about my stay. Warning - Under New Ownership!! Please read about the changes…read more We booked the Red Sleigh Inn seven months ago because we were planning a trip to the area and we love B&Bs and have stayed at many. What attracted us to this facility was its outstanding reputation. However, exactly one week (7/11/22) before we were supposed to arrive, we received an email that Red Sleigh was under new ownership and there were going to be changes. We could not cancel because it was less than 30 days. Here are the changes: 1. Nobody would be at the facility to greet you. Nope, no personal friendly greeting to welcome you like we were used to in the past. They sent you a passcode for the front door and your room. You have to call a property managing company if there is an issue. 2. You receive ONE set of towels per person for stay. We stayed three days and originally only got one washcloth, one hand towel, and one bath towel per person, until we complained and we each got a second set. 3. NO BREAKFAST ANYMORE!!! I guess they left off one B in B&B. They did give us a voucher of $20 a day for the Moon Cafe to get a small breakfast. I do not know if this service is going to continue. We got it because we booked before the change. The room was clean. There was a coffee station and candy station which were kept full by attendants who showed up daily to clean vacated rooms. If you like the AirBnB experience while sharing the facility with other couples, then by all means enjoy. We prefer the true B&B experience with the home cooked breakfast and somebody there to greet you.

We had a 1-bedroom standard unit, where the AC is only in the bedroom--but for that time of year, it wasn't an issue at all. If you book a deluxe room, there's AC units throughout the unit. The resort itself was great, and my family loved it. Since it was still early in the season, the outdoor pool wasn't open yet, but we made full use of the indoor pool. One thing that really stood out to me was how well they maintain everything. When the pool closed, the maintenance team came in right away to test and balance the water in both the pool and the hot tubs for the next day. It's little details like that that show how much they care about the property. A month later, we used the free week we received for attending the Vacation Club presentation and stayed at a nearby hotel. Unfortunately, that hotel didn't compare--limited amenities and a dirty pool. The big difference? As Vacation Club members, we were still able to use Pollard Brook's amenities during that stay. When we came back for day use, the staff was just as friendly and helpful, and everything--from the pools and hot tubs to the sauna and game room--was clean and well-maintained. Overall, I would strongly recommend both Pollard Brook and the Vacation Club. Being able to use the amenities at any of their properties as a member adds a lot of value and really enhances the experience.

We had no plans and no place to stay since we drove in on a whim. After driving up and down the main road a few times, we noticed a vacancy sign at Pemi, so we stopped in. The kind woman working the desk gave us the keys to both units she had available and let us look at our leisure to see what might be a fit for us. She even told us she could recommend somewhere else to stay if we didn't like our options. As soon as we turned the key on this cabin, we knew it was the spot for us. The location is incredible. These cabins are set right along the river so you can hear the peaceful rushing no matter where you are on property. We slept with the windows open all night so we could enjoy it. Our cabin had chairs on the front porch, so we sat and had coffee in the morning. Though we didn't stay long and spent most of our time out hiking, we did appreciate that this cabin had everything we'd need for a longer stay to be comfortable. It has a kitchen with a fridge and stove, plenty of towels and toiletries in the bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. I love that all the windows could be opened. There's a trail that leads down to the river for you to explore at your own risk. There's also a barn that has a few games and is the perfect place to hang out. We fell in love with the area and if we're lucky enough to make a trip back to New England, we wouldn't hesitate to book here again. I'd love to stay in one of their cabins with a covered porch to enjoy the river even more!
