We normally stay for five days each year. I especially like sitting on the porch each morning watching the sun rise over the mountains. It is so quiet and peaceful. The pool water is crystal clear and the perfect temperature. Byron and Donna are the most easygoing, friendly, and accommodating people that I know. I highly recommend the Shamrock Grove.

The food was a 6. Beverages were short. The flourless chocolate cake was flat. Bread pudding was average. Waitress was a touch pushy. But I think she was just trying to make sure we were happy. I do think their drinks are overpriced. Example: one shot of scotch was $15.00. There was a beautiful red propane stove in our suite that was inoperative. Unfortunately, there was a very noticeable septic smell throughout the Inn. I will consider other Inns when we return.

The towel holder was rusty, the lights didn't dim, and there was a TV mount with no TV. They stripped away the charming Victorian wallpaper and replaced it with plain paper (done diy again) because it was already peeling off. Dead bugs collected in the corners where they hadn't vacuumed. Worse, there was no heat because they hadn't turned it on yet! They gave me a space heater that was either too hot or too cold. The outdoor paddocks were cluttered with extra wood fencing, making the view from my balcony ugly and messy. No food service Monday through Thursday, and they replaced the once-fresh coffee and four-star breakfast with bagels and cereal. The tennis courts had grass growing on them, and the barn's broken windows and peeling siding looked neglected. Cold air and flies seeped in through window ACs, and they even took away the rocking chairs. The parking lot is in terrible condition--uneven, with water pooling everywhere, and no lighting, so you inevitably end up stepping in it! They took away the personal touches and charm. Shame. Horses were well fed and bed was very comfortable. Mia at the front desk was great.

The suite also included an outdoor space and full kitchen. The room definitely exceeded our expectations, and we wish we had had more nights there to fully enjoy. One let down: check-in is at 4pm. Calling 24 hours in advance, we asked if it might be possible to check-in at 3:30pm since we needed to get ready for a wedding, and while they gave no promises, they said we could see what happened on the day of. Well, as it turns out, 30 minutes before was not doable, so we ended up changing in the pool bathrooms. It wasn't the worst situation, but it was disappointing and a bit surprising that they could not accommodate this request.

The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the complimentary pantry was a great touch and always fully stocked. We enjoyed dinner at the Alpine Tavern, as well as breakfast and dinner at the 1869 Restaurant. Every meal was delicious, and the Berry Rouge cocktail was excellent. My husband also enjoyed a round of golf during our stay. The property is conveniently located, well maintained, and the staff consistently provided excellent service. This fit the bill, for about half the cost I rented one of the Fairlawn cottage suites, which included an updated guest room with a king sized bed; gas fireplace; a separate little living area with a pullout couch, which could be closed off by a set of glass French doors; and most importantly, our own private outdoor hot tub on a little covered porch off the bathroom (huge hit). My son and I were both very comfortable sharing this large, luxurious feeling space. The $30 per night resort fee includes access to amenities like a heated outdoor pool, which looked nice (we didn't use it, due to cooler air temps during our stay), various sports like tennis (which we also didn't use) and a shared self-serve pantry downstairs, for soft drinks, snacks and basic breakfast items. I agree with other posters who said that the pantry included nice choices but was not stocked consistently. On our first night, there was a nice selection of gelato in the freezer. The second night it was empty. On our second morning, they were super low on caffeinated coffee pods at 7 am, so I rationed my portions in consideration of other guests. The main restaurant looked too fancy for my five year old, but I wanted to check out the on site dining options so I made a reservation to eat at the Alpine Lodge for night two. We arrived just before 6, after a long day at Story Land. There was no one around to greet us or take us to our table. I waited around for a while, then guided my son to one of the many open tables. There was calm but upbeat live music, which we both liked. The bartender was warm, kind and also clearly overwhelmed. I tried to get the attention of the lounge server but she completely ignored us. It took close to two hours to get a cheeseburger and a plate of chicken tenders. I didn't even complain, but the bartender still comped one of my glasses of wine and was super apologetic. Overall, there were a couple of minor kinks but the inn felt like a great value. I've already recommended it to friends and family members and would stay there again.

Staff was super friendly. There was no housekeeping service, but there was no issue getting towels and supplies. Pricing was very affordable. This is within walking distance of a lot of shopping and eateries. Free coffee was available in lobby, but not until 8:00 am. I and other guests would have liked coffee to be available much earlier. I highly recommend the Golden Gables Inn in North Conway. We will likely make a return visit.

Maybe I forgot what it's like to have a fireplace from my childhood when I lived in Massachusetts. The downside is there's no coffee maker in the room and even though they have complementary coffee in the lobby they don't open until 8 AM. I'm an early riser and I wanted to get to the white Mountain national Park early so that meant I had to go a few blocks to Dunkin' Donuts to get myself some coffee. There is no breakfast included. If you get the basic room it's worth it because the rates are much half that of those with upgrades. The front desk clerk had zero personality and refused to honor the online price which was $50 less than what I paid when I reserved the room. That is just not nice. On the other hand the guy from Turkey that cleaned our room was super nice and kind to us. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I probably will not book ahead of time if it's not busy season also, there is no direct mountain view, you have to look sideways.

The kids wanted to have s'mores, he lit the fire pit, gave the kids s'mores sticks, helped us out when the girls got sap on their fingers from foraging for sticks, and sat by the fire for a while. Great, talkative, fun guy. - Two-room cottage was cozy, with tv, fridge, stove top, kitchen sink, dishes and more. All the comforts from home. - everything seemed nice, clean, and well kept. Cons - Shower kinda hurt. We stayed in #2, ground level. We heard all footsteps, talking above and around us. We heard the pipes and plumbing when people flushed the toilet. I didn't expect that and as a light sleeper, I probably wouldn't have stayed more than 1 night. It was a great price & location from The Cog Railway, 20 minutes away. Several locations in that area require a 2 or 3 night minimum stay at least due to NH's ski tourism.

I rented cabin #5 for my boyfriends birthday. It was a cute little cabin but they are very close to…read morethe main road and you can hear cars at all hours of the day and night (we needed up shutting all windows at night to help with this). The cabins are also a bit too close together so you can hear people talking all around if they have the windows open. The fire pit was perfect and right on the little stream behind the cabin. I think next time we will try to rent one of the cabins on the other side of the bridge just for a little more privacy and quite. Inside the cabin I really liked whatever Incense they had burned before we got there and that they had everything we needed in the kitchen. One issue was that the dishes were not clean when we got there so we had to wash a few before using. Also in the bedroom one of the screens was not properly attached on the bottom so when we opened the window we ended up getting a lot of flies and mosquitos inside. The bathroom was a bit tiny but i expected this with such small cabins. The walls in the shower are not attached to the wall though so do not lean on them or you could break or tip it to the tip (couldn't tip it over though). Main problem with the bathroom is that after a hot shower and you open the door it sets the fire alarm off that right outside the door even if you had the window open to let the steam out. He was definitely not happy being woken up at 6am because I wake early. All in all I would stay again but I would defiantly pick one of the back cabins over the front one we stayed in.

Although it's somewhat close to the road, we never heard traffic, and since it's such a rural area to begin with, there's not much traffic anyway. We truly felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. There are some cabins on the other side of the creek that are slightly more secluded for people who want that.
