The Industrial Revolution is no more. But you can enjoy a piece of history at Industry Kitchen & Bar in Sparta, NJ with its deep collection of industrial decor and artifacts. This is more than throwing a bunch of junk on the walls (like the original TGI Fridays). Rather, the decor has been carefully curated with items from real factories. Take a moment before or after your meal to stroll the restaurant and explore the private dining rooms. I particularly loved the steel plate bar top made of Bethlehem Steel product, and an old working roulette wheel. The food was outstanding and generously portioned. The fried mozzarella appetizer served atop pomodoro and pesto sauce was gargantuan and delicious. You could easily share this appetizer among two people. The Beet salad was fresh and delicious with its golden beets and walnuts. For the entree, I enjoyed Cherry Pepper Pappardelle, a colorful and delicious entree that hit all the right notes. On the beverage side, an array of industrial-themed cocktails was on offer. I opted for the "American A.F." - an Old-Fashioned riff using FEW American Whiskey, Widow Jane Paradigm Rye, cherry vanilla simple syrup, and angostura bitters. It was a fantastic cocktail! For dessert, we enjoyed the sorbet - a generously portioned duo of lemon and raspberry sorbet. I also indulged in a delicious cup of Cappuccino. Rocco was an excellent server. Attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable, and fun. The food and drinks were fairly priced. I definitely will return! After seeing a social media post featuring the restaurant's unique industrial décor and checking the menu online beforehand, my dining companion and I made the drive up from Morristown for a 7pm Saturday dinner. We expected a moderately upscale atmosphere - with $15 cocktails and entrees ranging from $32 for pasta up to $48 for a strip steak - and we dressed accordingly. Upon our arrival at Industry, it quickly became clear that the dining room leans much more casual than we anticipated. Before even walking in to the restaurant, I passed a gentleman sitting on the curb in front of the entrance to the restaurant in a tank top, shorts, and Crocs sandals on an animated phone call. Inside, most guests were similarly dressed in t-shirts and shorts. To top it off, a diner at a neighboring table surreptitiously used a vape pen throughout her meal. I don't mean to sound overly critical of what might pass for moderately upscale dining in Sussex County, but there is definitely a noticeable disconnect between the high culinary ambitions and prices on the menu and the actual day-to-day environment in the dining room. That disconnect is a shame because we really liked the decor in the open, airy space as well as what the kitchen is trying to do here. It's obvious that they genuinely know what they're doing in the back of the house.. but the front of the house isn't as disciplined. We started with the unique Watermelon and Feta salad ($18) -- an innovative appetizer where the watermelon is vacuum-sealed to force-feed it a mildly spicy chimichurri marinade, and it was flat-out excellent. For the main course, I really enjoyed the Cherry Pepper Pappardelle ($34), cooked to a perfect al dente and loaded with sweet Italian sausage and broccolini although for my preferences, the garlic and white wine vinegar sauce could have used a little more kick. My dining companion wanted something lighter and opted for the Tuna Tartare Tacos ($23) -- four crispy wonton shells stuffed with a surprisingly generous portion of sushi-grade tuna, seaweed salad, guacamole, and harissa mayo -- and she loved them. As for the beverage program, it was... well, no pun intended, a bit mixed. My dining companion really enjoyed her Loose Screw ($15), a crisp and refreshing concoction of limoncello, mint, prosecco, and club soda. On the other hand, I was unimpressed with the American A.F. ($15), a blend of FEW American Whiskey, Widow Jane Paradigm Rye, cherry vanilla simple syrup, and Angostura bitters, which ended up tasting fairly uninspired when compared to a regular Old Fashioned. Our server, Christina, was fantastic -- friendly, hyper-aware of my dietary restriction, and spot-on with her recommendations. The kitchen's speed, however, was another story. Despite the dining room being less than half full, our starter took nearly 30 minutes to make an appearance, and another 20-25 minutes elapsed after we finished before our entrees joined the party. At the end of the day, I really respect the vision and execution coming out of the kitchen, and Christina's service was top-notch. That said, I'd give it a 3.5 star rating -- rounded down to 3 stars given the glacier-like pacing and the surreal gap between high-end menu prices and a lax (vape-friendly, even) vibe, as the execution on the floor just doesn't match what the kitchen is working so hard to achieve. If I'm in the area.. I'd give it another shot with a more grounded expectation. My first time here, came in on a Tuesday late afternoon and stood at the front desk for 5 minutes not knowing where to go or what to do since the hostess was missing. The bar was busy but plenty of open tables. Once seated, we ordered Surf and Turf Tacos, Loaded Mac and Cheese, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and for myself I got the Chicken BLT. The surf and turf tacos were delicious, the tortilla fell apart so a bit messy but overall good flavor and the pineapples a good touch. The entrees took a little while to come out but once they did they were ok. The Chicken BLT I ordered was served with bread that was pretty dry although the chicken itself was tender. The accompanying fries were well salted and fried well. The Loaded Mac and Cheese was delicious especially with the red bell peppers. However, the Garlic Mashed Potatoes were neither garlicky nor seasoned. The dish was very bland and somehow sweet? I'm not sure if it's the cream they are using or butter but overall pretty bad mashed potatoes. Overall, service once seated was decent. Had to wait a little for my entree and to be seated but no big deal. But the dry bread and the mashed potatoes really missed the mark for me. First time visitor, a friend suggested with go for dinner and I'm glad we did. Interesting decor, so much to look at with Industry being the theme. Old signage, tables supported by engine blocks, heavy machinery parts integrated into all aspects of the decor. We never ran out of "things to look at/admire". The service was excellent! Yasmin was our waitress and took the time to walk me thru the menu. Not a phone book amount of selections, but enough that I couldn't make a quick selection. There were few options on the menu for me since I prefer, I don't know if basic or simple would best describe my tastes. The place is visually interesting, something to look at from every angle. Today's @BigDudesBigFoods #SmallBusiness supporting adventure brought us to @IndustrySpartaNJ an amazing restaurant/industrial museum. We were invited by Steve Scro and his amazing crew for a tour and a sampling of the "Big Dudes" sized items on their menu. The tour was amazing. There were so many different antiques, signs and industrial artifacts. Every table was different. You would drive by most of this stuff on the side of the road but when it's so carefully displayed, you can really enjoy it. Most of the men in this space were just looking around between bites and sips. I started out with my favorite cocktail, a #SmokedOldFashioned which was smoked table side (nice touch). Next, we were presented with three XL appetizers: a burratta stuffed meatball that was the size of a cantaloupe, some crispy kielbasa sized mozzarella sticks with parmesan herb crust, rustic tomato sauce & pesto and an onion ring tower with some healthy sized rings with a spicy crunch. Went there with my family to celebrate a birthday. While the appetizers came out in good time and were ok, nothing to say other than that, and my grandsons got their pasta right away, we waited almost another hour before our food was delivered by the waiter. We ordered the salmon, a pasta dish and the lobster roll and they weren't the best I've had before. My wife's patience was wearing thin at how long we had to wait for our food. So my review is ok to bland food with no kids menu, long waits for our food and ambiance is ok. I would tell everyone it's a one and done! My initial impression after our visit, Don't Bother!! My mother and I came here to eat and we were both very disappointed. The restaurant has had a change in chef and manager since we came around a year ago and it's clear things have gone downhill from then. I had the famous ribeye steak sandwich. The bread was soggy. The fries were overcooked and clearly burnt. I like crispy fries but this was way beyond that. My mom had the fig and prosciutto flatbread which was drenched in fig jam. Some is okay but the bread was absolutely drenched in it which made it inedible at that point. My mother told the waitress and the kitchen came back with a remade version of the dish but again they drenched the flatbread with the fig jam so we just decided to pay and leave. I was really disappointed with my experience at The Industry. We arrived at 8:15pm, well before the 10pm kitchen closing time, but immediately felt rushed. We were told we had to place both our appetizer and dinner orders at the same time, with the assurance that everything would be timed appropriately. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all--our entrees came out just five minutes after the appetizers, making the whole meal feel rushed and poorly managed. To make matters worse, when our dinner came out around 9:15pm, we were told we could no longer order drinks because the bar had already been shut down. This was extremely frustrating, especially given that the restaurant was still open. On top of that, we had to send back three drinks earlier in the night because they had little to no alcohol in them. A manager did come over to "apologize," but it felt completely fake and rehearsed, which only added to the frustration rather than resolving anything. Because of all of this, the food itself suffered. It was clear the dishes were rushed out of the kitchen, and the quality did not live up to expectations. The one bright spot of the night was our waitress, who was absolutely amazing--friendly, attentive, and doing the best she could in a situation that seemed out of her control. She truly saved what she could of the experience. Overall, between the rushed service, early bar shutdown, poorly made drinks, and underwhelming food, I wouldn't return, which is a shame because the staff clearly has potential. read more

I vowed I would never come back here over 2 years ago. Stopped by this past Wednesday and was blown away by the very friendly professional staff. Maggie & Gabe were amazing! Gabe was so friendly & attentive to all his bar patrons, and Maggie went out of her way to ask how we were doing and checked on his throughout the time we were there. They made this one of the best times I have had sitting at a bar! This was honestly pretty rough. Industry looks great inside and out, but unfortunately that's where the positive story ends for them. They've caught my eye a handful of times on my way to visit my top-tier chum in the Kingdom of Sussex, and one of the reasons is because it seems out of place in the middle of nowhere up there - you'd expect a bougie-looking, gigantic American restaurant/bar like this to be hanging out off of Route 3 in Clifton or something. But it's also giving off some upscale Applebee's vibes, with a dash of mixology. Which I can certainly get behind. I stopped here last night for a drink and a bite to eat with my aforementioned chum. Despite it being pretty hopping (understandable for a Friday night), it was very easy to find parking nearby. The parking situation overlaps with the nearby Shoprite, and since it IS the Kingdom of Sussex, traffic in general is pretty drama-free when it doesn't indirectly involve sinkholes and whatnot. The interior is VAST, to an insane degree. There is a lot of space, very high ceilings and the only room that seemed to be a normal size was their classy party room to the side (which kind of gave off conference room more than anything else, but no matter). The two young women at the front were very friendly and personable and directed me to both the bar area and the bathroom (the latter with no prompting) which is a huge plus in my book. What goes in must come out. Top marks for the hostess area. We were fortunate to secure two spots at the bar just as a small group was leaving and promptly ordered drinks. I went with the Smoke & Ember, which was, I'm sorry to say, easily the worst drink I've had in a while. I had a bad feeling when I asked if they could use Angel's Envy bourbon instead of the listed Elijah Craig, and I was told they couldn't because the Elijah Craig was "on tap." Not a good sign at all; the cocktail isn't actually made to order. Far worse though was the "smoke" and "embers" portion of the drink, and it was the dictionary definition of style over substance. They absolutely CHARRED an orange slice garnish and put this weird filter/lid on top I guess to provide a superficial smoky optic? I don't know, but it looked like a shower drain protector which isn't the greatest vibe as you're trying to drink something from underneath it. Anyway. This might be the first time I attempted to take a sip of a drink and had to STOP before doing so because the smell was so overwhelming it was making my eyes water. They literally could have just taken a shovel, scooped ashes out of a firepit, thrown them in my face and said, "Now drink this bourbon cocktail." Same effect. I'd get that off the menu immediately before someone gets injured. The food options didn't present a physical danger but were pretty mediocre. We got the charcuterie/cheese board, which was fine. It was very pro forma as you can see from the attached, and at least a good portion, but honestly not something I'd get again. There weren't enough diverse flavors so every sample/bite was kind of the same theme, if that makes sense. The cookie skillet was also average to slightly below average - the cookie was overcooked and required some effort to chip away at, and it wasn't particularly warm so the ice cream wasn't melting aggressively and helping moisten the hard cookie surface. The service was rough, flat out. We dealt with both the bartender and two waitresses, who were all busy and extremely overwhelmed (they WERE nice to us despite the hectic situation, so good on them there). It's a VERY long bar and the coverage just wasn't there for it. It took literally 15 minutes to get a dessert menu (though I give credit for the waitress remembering to bring it after all that time without additional prompting) and other than our initial drinks, everything just took forever. I had delightful company but we were probably there at least an extra half hour longer than necessary. There's a Wal-Mart in Newton. My recommendation would be to go there, purchase a fire pit, get a nice flame going, and make your own cocktail to sip next to it. read more

Wow! This place is so cool! Industry has been on my list for a while to try. It is almost an hour away, but definitely worth the trip. It had it all, ambiance, perfect food, & great service. This place is decorated with the coolest vintage stuff around. A cocktail table made out of a roulette wheel, at the bar, great vintage signs, motorcycles, movie lights, clocks, & more! A lot going on in this place in terms of reviews! Contrary to several others on this reaturant, my food came out in a timely manner and the wait staff was pleasant. However, I'm 100% on board with how pricey certain items are. I was there for lunch and wanted a salad but didn't want to break the bank. A Caesar salad was $18 and shrimp was an additional $18. Am I reading the menu correctly?? The shrimp tacos were okay. The shell was entirely too small for the filling and the shrimp was chewy. The soup was okay but nothing to come back for. A belated review for our holiday visit. We visited Industry with family in December around the holidays. The decor is industrial chic (exposed brick, high ceilings, metal beams, unique light fixtures, and fun vintage accent decor - love it all), and definitely feels more NYC than NJ. The food and prices match that vibe (and IMO the prices match the portion sizes and quality). Besides the setting and decor, I love that the menu celebrates local and seasonal. It was festive and busy when we visited, and service was friendly and efficient. Five of us tried a bunch of menu items. We loved everything, and left with full hearts and bellies! TO SHARE (~$17-$20) -Crispy Calamari -Burrata - on a bed of arugula with prosciutto and pickled persimmons *burrata is always a good idea and loved that it came with a substantial portion of greens -Pear & Blue Cheese Salad - with radicchio, kale, bacon shallot vinaigrette *YES to bacon! MAINS (~$35-$45/dish) -Pork Chop Milanese *a few among our group raved about this dish! -Scottish Salmon - farrotto, celery root, butternut squash, sage *all the cozy winter flavors and feels! -Scallops - roasted cauliflower, blood orange, capers DESSERT -Brownie Sundae -Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet *both were decadently delicious! The food here is pretty, and it may be one of the classiest ambiances in Sparta or nearby Newton (think elevated spirit tasting room). That said, Industry's problem is the lack of salt in the entrees, for restaurant dishes. Moreover, for entree prices starting at well above $20, I shouldn't have gotten the slightly over-the-hill asparagus that accompanied my ravioli. A coworker and I came in to a 30-40% full dining room at 6 on a Thursday. The wait staff is genuinely enthusiastic about their dishes, which counts for a lot. I actually dug the focaccia - freshly baked, crispy edges, light and lightly buttered crumb - and my smoke and embers was sweet-forward, basically an old fashioned. But the cheese in my ravioli was nearly flavorless, and the pasta a bit past al dente. My guest didn't really touch her rigatoni, which had pasta that the waitress personally made, which is a cool touch. I felt her Pony Express cocktail was relatively light - no one dominant flavor, and definitely not effervescent despite the prosecco. They were very good, however, the portion is small, so don't order this if you're hungry. I also ordered the mozzarella sticks to go. They came with a marinara sauce and a pesto sauce. I'm really shocked at these poor reviews. And the ones who freak out about the price--14 bucks for a craft cocktail is standard, and 30-40 dollars for a good steak is also standard. Sometimes it costs much more. I had a chimichurri steak, served with an egg and seasonal vegetables which was great. I had an order of duck fat fries, which were sumptuous, indulgent, crispy, and hot. I had a couple of tequila based drinks, both of which were delicious. There are many options--vodka, bourbon, wine, beer. The menu has multiple creative cocktails, multiple appetizers (octopus, lobster rolls etc). Multiple steak dishes. Some great looking veggie and pasta offerings. The only thing on the food I would recommend is a little more flavor. I was provided with salt and pepper, but the dish itself wasn't well seasoned. The venue itself was attractive, fun, and spacious. A lot of fun photo ops throughout. Overall I enjoyed my meal. This review was boosted to a five over a four because of the service. Many here have vilified the service. On entry, the host and the chef, who happened to be outside; were kind and accommodating. Then Michael, my server, was fantastic. He explained the menu in detail, gave fun and appropriate recommendations. He checked in with me often. Was laid back and helped me feel comfortable. I don't know why many complained about service--but all the servers, bartenders, hosts, etc I saw were GREAT. I would definitely come here again. I wanted to love this place but sadly I did not. The ambiance is great. That deserves 5 stars but when you add in the food service and price it just doesn't live up. We came for our anniversary on a Saturday night. We felt rushed through the meal. We had a few drinks. My wine and sangria were just ok. My boyfriend had a cocktail that was really good. We both ordered pasta dishes. Mine was a special with lobster. Have no idea the price but from the look of our bill it was high. It was ok but the next day I felt sick which is not normal for me. We shared a dessert. That was a s'mores cookie skillet and that was pretty good. A tad overly sweet. We just felt like for the cost if this meal and quality of food and service didn't match up. We may come back and sit at the bar in the future but know better now what to expect. read more

We have been here many times. Always liked the atmosphere & friendly vibe. Tonight not sure what happened! We sat at the bar as we usually do yet The service was awful. I asked the waitress to have one of the owners/partner to stop by. The last time we were there he recommended a certain cut of meat & I wanted his recommendation. He never came over, we ended up having a burger which was good however again difficult to even get more water! Very disappointing. read more

Visited on a Wednesday night (night before Thanksgiving). Love the vibe. The place is beautiful inside. Bar area was busy so we sat at a table. Comfy chairs at a 2 seater table. Waiter was friendly and checked in often. Food and drinks were good. Would definitely go back again! read more

Three Strikes Or if you are going to charge NY prices...... On our first time visiting we waited a few minutes while the host chit chatted with another worker. We were sat down and forgotten. (The place was empty) Waited 10 minutes, no water, no menus. Left. 2ND Try we did get a table and waited and waited. Finally, a chance to order a filet ($48.00) Asked for a good glass of cabernet. They had one and it was terrible! ($25.00) I asked for a different one and they advised that was the ONLY one available. Strike Three. We arrived with a reservation with another couple and asked for (if possible) a quieter area because I am hard of hearing. They tried to sit us at a table for 8! All the while there were plenty of tables for 4. We requested to be moved and it took some time for the manager to be consulted and the change to be made. We ordered the house special wine ($60.00) and it was awful. I asked for a Cabernet they had on the menu it was a nice 2018 vintage for $155.00. They brought out the same brand, but it was a 2020. I asked why and why are we be charged the same price? The manager came over and advised that they pay the same price. That is not true. And frankly even if it was the professional thing to do is to give the customer a break. Make them feel like they were not taken advantage of. The bottom line is the food is good and if you are willing to put up with poor quality service, a less than good wine selection this is the place for you. Personally, for me no thanks. read more

Waited over an hour for just two burgers, which was incredibly frustrating and honestly not worth it. The waitress was kind and tried her best, but the kitchen was way too slow. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. Plenty of other spots can get a basic order out in a reasonable time. read more
