Raw salmon tandoori

If I could give zero stars I would. My salmon tandoori was raw. I had to double check to see if I ordered sushi or Indian. I had to recook it in my kitchen. When I finally got to eat it, it was insanely salty. The chat papri was the saddest I've seen. The chickpeas looked like they took it straight from the can and plopped sauces on top. I'm certain this place is still in business because it's the only Indian place in the area. What a waste of $50 in a world where gas $6 a gallon now. I should've just made top ramen. Save yourself.

Paneer naan

To put it simply. This India Bistro is a letdown. I love Indian food, so I was really geared up to try here, but will likely be one and only visit. To start with the good - The naan is good, which could be said about most Indian places, but they have Paneer Naan which hit the spot and came out hot. Cocktails are only $10. I got a pomer-tini which is just as it sounds. Not too sweet, with a nice presentation. Now where did it all start to go wrong? Well India Bistro still seems to be getting a good portion of their business with Take-out and App delivery drivers. So, most of the stay people would be coming in and out to pick up food. This is fine, but there was no balance to checking on the actual diners seated. We sat for well over 10 minutes before anyone came over. The waiter was apologetic, but still. I got the 'Murgh Makhni' as recommended by the waiter, and I didn't see Tikka Masala. He said that this was 'like it'. I should've known right there but decided to go with it. This entree is described as "cooked" and I assume served in a cream sauce. You know with that gravy consistency you know with Tikka Masala. Yeah, this is nothing like that. This was like a chunky salsa or Pasta sauce. It seems to fit more the description of their Jalfraizies which is a sauce loaded with diced onions, etc. Either way this was a letdown and it seemed deceptive because I'm sure that waiter knows what Tikka Masala looks like. That ain't it. The Samosas were alright, but they're huge. I prefer 3-4 small ones than 2 huge ones. Smaller ones are better for dipping. The ambience is cut into by them having the news on. The volume is turned down, and I'm not against the news. I just don't think it fits an evening dinner out. The experience could've been way better and judging by the mixed reviews, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. If you're looking for Indian food. Skip this, go to Spice Waala nearby.

Basmati Rice

This is one of mu neighbors favorite restaurants in our neighborhood. We had been on a walk and decided to have dinner it's close to home. My neighbor had her ho to the coconut curry chicken medium and had the Chicken Vindaloo one step up in spice as I like my dishes a little spicier than her but not so much that I can't taste the flavors. It was the perfect amount of kick for me came with basmati rice in beautiful bowls from India. The staff is friendly and were very accommodating they do a great job of taking care of those dining with the large amount of take out they do. Water glass was always full. The owner is so nice , definitely won't wait so long to return.

I went to the lunch buffet today and LOVED IT! You get the bang for your buck with the lunch buffet special for sure! $17.82 after tax for the lunch buffet and it includes a good amount of food. A really nice option if you are looking to try out Indian food for the first time but are unsure where to start. Aside from the food my experience with the service was top notch - my waiter always kept my water glass full and was quite friendly. He brought out HOT, mouth watering naan and overall I would definitely come back to this place.

Lamb "Tikka masala"

Never again. Ordered by accident. I thought the Uber app was showing me India Bistro (Roosevelt), which has been the best Indian food in north Seattle for years. Nope. It's this other India Bistro in Ballard, and it is a trash pit. Please just look at the photo of lamb "tikka masala." I have eaten tikka masalas for 20+ years. They are orange and creamy. This is red and not creamy. This is basically marinara sauce with some Indian spices. What on earth? And the lamb was tough and chewy. Tikka masala is one of the most popular Indian dishes at any restaurant. How do you mess it up? The saag paneer was better but still lifeless and lacking cream. Probably the best thing was the Peshawari naan. You have so many better Indian food choices in town. Do not do this to yourself.

The mango chicken was heavenly! The cost was fair and the taste amazing! Thank you Parking may be a challenge but it's worth it indeed.

Lamb biryani with almonds, golden raisins, and spices
Dawn G.

Ordered delivery and was looking forward to some tasty carbs. Unfortunately the samosas and stuffed naan bread were both extremely bland. I've never had bland Indian food before. It's usually bursting with flavors of cardamom, clove, cinnamon, cumin, etc. I ended up adding my own seasonings and salt and using the provided dipping sauces to give the samosas and bread some flavor. The lamb biryani was better and had more flavor at least.

a bowl of spinach and a plate of naan bread
Karen P.

Nice ambience. Friendly service. Lots of options on the menu (not as many as Cheesecake Factory). I got the Chicken dish with spinach and medium hot - very flavorful. I also got a regular naan. Not much to it. If you want flavor maybe try the garlic naan. Overall, enjoyed my dinner. If you feel inclined, the also have cocktails. Which I didn't try. Dry January!

Ornnicha B.

The food is very tasty and yummy. Not sure what we've got because the name is quite long but I think one of them is chicken tikka masala? Also garlic Naan bread. Can't remember the other one name. All of these are tasted amazing!

The restaurant also offers outdoor seating and a private dining room for events. A ramp provides accessible access to the restaurants main entrance. But, they really need to work on upgrading their health rating from good to excellent (a rating they've maintained in the past)! My wife and I have visited this restaurant on several occasions; however, this is the second review that I've done since participating with Yelp. This time around we are having drinks in the bar/lounge while waiting for another couple to arrive before dining in the main room. To past the time we ordered a couple Ahi Nachos appetizers and glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and smoked Old Fashion. Our dining partners arrived and we were seated in the main dining space with a nice view of Elliott Bay though it was overcast late afternoon. Our server Brian was great; attentive, welcoming and offering great suggestions! We began dinner ordering the Dungeness Crab + Avocado Roll and Calamari as appetizers, both were delicious. Two in the dinner party ordered the Herb Crusted Slow Roasted Prime Rib (they loved it). My wife ordered the DUNGENESS CRAB + SHRIMP FETTUCCINI which received a thumbs up and I selected the SEAFOOD TRIO which included Dungeness crabcake, salmon, shrimp with Yukon mashed potatoes seasonal vegetable and beurre blanc. My only complaint regarding this dish was the portion size of the salmon fillet (way too small). I did choose to elevate this entree by adding a 5oz lobster tail and additional grilled shrimp. Both were great! Regarding the salmon, I suggest that the kitchen reevaluate the size of the salmon fillet for this dish. As we were celebrating a birthday we ordered a couple desserts (Key Lime Pie, New York Style Cheesecake, and Butterscotch Bread Pudding) to go, and the birthday Red Velvet Cake that was devoured on site!

Which is why when hearing about Sushi% I was more than happy to come and give this place a go! We went on a Friday around 6PM and had no wait time to get seated. Located in Chinatown, if you are driving, parking will definitely be very difficult on busy times. But fortunately there is the light rail that can take you to about a 5 minute walk from the restaurant. Service is fast, as soon as we entered the restaurant we were shown to a table. The service worker explained how the restaurant works, and all ordering is done on the tablet. You get 2 hours when dining in, we only used about an hour and we were full for reference - this may be different if your group is larger. We ordered a large assortment of sushi - everything from nigiri, hand rolls, sushi rolls, sashimi, appetizers, etc. First, about the fish - my personal favorites were the escolar and the salmon. The tuna didn't have the best texture, with a feeling of cheap supermarket sushi, so I would recommend skipping it unless you are a big tuna fan. The quality of the fish was decent for an AYCE for sure - the fish didn't taste fully cheap or artificial. The nigiri, as other reviewers have mentioned, are like 70% rice, which is unfortunate. Some of the rolls were good, such as the rock and dragon roll as I have pictured. The rolls have a much better rice to fish ratio vs the nigiri. The hand rolls were also good - I would focus on the salmon and unagi rolls as they had the best flavor in my opinion. The sashimi are mostly just small cubes of fish - I guess presentation is only OK on that front, but I guess its efficient in terms of service for the restaurant. I would say for $34, the value is pretty solid! I mean, for all you can eat, the quality is actually decent for the fish. I would focus on some items on the menu more than others if you looking to get a better bang for your buck. I would say if you are in the mood to eat as much sushi as you possibly can for $34, Sushi% has got you covered.

They also had a mini salad and fruit bar, but because we came closer to closing they weren't as stocked up as I assume they would be during peak hours. If you're going to do this I suggest a limited drink menu. Bottles & cans of beer and simple mixed drinks that don't take long to make. And for the wait for a table a couple that arrived after us was seated before us. As mentioned before a wait time sign would be a good idea. Also the host kept leaving the host stand and people would simply walk in. A sign saying wait to be seated would be good. Finally on to the food. The fish of the fish and chips were very small. More like nuggets than filets of fish. I had asked for an extra tartar sauce when placing our order and didn't receive it. Had to flag down a server to get another. Also ordered water we never received. The fried shrimp were tasty and while the bed of greens was a nice touch since we didn't receive silverware and there wasn't dressing it was a complete waste. I pointed out the trip hazard to a manger and she did cover it with a rug. This was a good temporary solution but watch out as your leaving that you don't trip.

So off we go to check it out. It's right off the freeway, I forget which one since I'm not driving. The buffet is located in a shopping center with lots of parking. I think there's a Thai restaurant across the parking lot from here. We go in and wow, this is a nicer buffet than most other one's I've been to. The dining area is very large and clean. I see the prices on a sign. Looks like about $30 for dinner, plus they add the tip of 10%. I guess that's about standard to leave for a tip at a self serve buffet. We get seated and head up to the buffet. Looks like they have a big sushi section and a Mongolian grill section as well. Looking at all the food, I'd say the quality is better than most buffet I go to in CA. The dishes just look better. I'm gonna say in general, the food in the Seattle is a higher quality and more foodie oriented than down where I live. I even tried some of the sushi and it was seemed as good as any all you can eat place. Normally sushi at a buffet is something I avoid. I had ribs and some shellfish seafood and various other American Chinese foods. I did see a few more authentic dishes that I couldn't exactly tell what it was, so I guess it means it was authentic! Several entrées were empty and not refilled promptly. They also charge extra for soda, coffee, and tea, which adds even more to the cost. If you live on the Eastside and want Chinese food with some sushi without driving far, this place is convenient. But if you have time, I'd skip this and go to Feast Buffet in Renton -- it's much bigger, has way more variety, includes drinks in the price.
