Max and his team were amazing! I did a 3 person move for my 1 bedroom apartment for a quicker move. The price was $165/hr CASH and $170/hr CARD. There is also the double time while driving. The total time was about 6 hours and 15 minutes. They offer boxes but you do have to pay for them. Small box 1.5 cuft $2 Medium cuft $3 Large 4.5 cuft $4 I had already packed all my items in my apartment. I moved my TV in my car because it was my most expensive item and I didn't want to risk breaking it. The drive was about 1 hour from my old apartment to my new apartment. They Saran wrapped all my furniture to ensure no damage. They also broke down and set up all of my furniture extremely quickly. Despite being in a time crunch for the last hour of my move due to a hiccup with my leasing office with the loading dock, Max and his team finished quickly and smoothly! Max reassured me about the process of the move each step of the way. The crew was very professional and did everything quickly and safely. They definitely knew what they were doing! As someone that was a mover here in the Bay Area for 2 years, I've seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly when it comes to moving companies. I'd give Impel an 11/10 if I could! We had a 1 bed/ 1 bath that was moved across town. They showed up on time, kept an extremely accurate time clock, moved all of our items with care (not a single thing broken or ding'd!), and we're incredibly polite throughout the process. The initial booking procedure was super professional as well. In about 10 minutes they had given me an accurate quote, and confirmed several times leading up to the actual move. As someone that has been a part of and on the receiving end of nightmare moving experiences, the whole experience was so refreshing. I chose this company because they had great reviews and their pricing was more reasonable than other companies. The reservation process was very nice - I spoke with David and Adam when scheduling the move and they were very informative and efficient in providing the quote. The movers (team of 4) arrived in the pretty close (8:15am) to the window quoted (between 7:30 - 8am). They were friendly and contentious, however moved at quite a relaxed pace. When I moved into my house in the Berkeley Hills the move-in took ~8 hours total. These guys took more than 8 hours just to pack the trucks - which was way longer than I expected. They took a few "10 min breaks" which were more like 20 min and a 45 min lunch, which is understandable given how hard this work is, but I had planned an early morning start time to avoid the rush hour traffic going to the storage unit, and will all the delays they didn't start driving till 4:45pm - worse timing possible. When comparing to many prior moves these guys were just slower. We had a safe that weighted 280 lbs. They charged us $300 extra to bring that down. I was surprised, as the prior movers had not charged us extra to move it up the stairs onto the 2nd floor when we moved in a few years back. So make sure you really understand all the extra charges when you book. You also need to manage what items you want bubble wrapped and what you don't. We ended up paying $150 extra for bubble wrap and another $150 extra for blankets, which we were not expecting, especially as some of the things they took time to bubble wrap really didn't need it. Same was true of the shrink wrap - this didn't cost extra, but it did lead to extra time spend. We had a lot of stuff and the movers had to arrange things strategically to fit it all into our storage unit - they did do a great job with this part, and we were thankful for that. , All in all, the move went okay, however it did take more time than prior, similar moves and cost quite a bit more than we expected. read more

Our crew of four did an EXCELLENT job. We moved from a two story house to a four story house so there were lots of stairs and steep inclines on both streets, but they handled it all with ease. They hustled, working really hard and fast and with terrific, friendly, helpful attitudes. I recommend them 100%. Their rates were slightly higher than others but they did not add a bunch of last minute fees, so I think it all came out even in the end. I spent many hours reading reviews of all the moving companies and Impel had the fewest red flags. The back office is much more professional than others and they were very transparent about fees. I had planned to rate this business three stars, but I'm reducing my stars to a two because Yelp is automatically attaching green checkmarks that the service I received was quality and great value. Which is not true. Since yelp does not allow me to remove these green checks, I have reduced my stars so that there is no confusion that I would not recommend this business. I booked them for two moves one day apart. One moving from San Francisco to the East Bay, the second moving my partner, 10 blocks from their old place to our new place. I'll start with listing the good. The person I spoke with to schedule the move was kind, responsive, and answered all my questions. I received an electronic quote which was helpful to keep track of. On the day of the move, I got a text notification to let me know the movers were on their way. The movers were respectful and kind. Even though we didn't like our experience with Impel each move we still provided the movers with an 18% tip because their job isn't easy and very physically demanding. Also, I feel most of the issues we had were related to how the company functions and not because of the employees as individuals. Now, for the negative. As requested I sent a list of items that I would be moving, the amount of stairs at both locations, walkway structures and widths. I was told I would only need two movers for my one bedroom. Of note, when I pack, I am very organized. My boxes are labeled and categorized and stacked so that they're easy to pick up and move. I've moved well over 10 times in the SF Bay Area and my moves were fast and my movers have appreciated my organization. My moves- even across the Bay took max 5 hours (including drive time). This move took over eight hours, which is longer than I was quoted, (and there was no traffic at all!) I had wanted to hire three movers, but I was reassured that I would only need two moves based on my items I was moving. I feel this is a tactic that Impel uses because they make more money charging you for two movers for more hours then charging you for three movers for less hours. For me I'd rather pay for more movers if it means the move will be faster. When my movers packed my items, they wrapped so many things in plastic. Which, while the plastic is free, was unnecessary and just takes up time, which I also think is a strategy that the company uses to charge more. I'm not talking about my furniture being wrapped in plastic I'm talking sturdy sealed boxes. During my quote, I was reassured that protective covering would be placed on the floor to prevent any damage. This was never done during my move or my partner's move, despite repeated requests. My partner's move was even worse. Her move also took far longer than quoted only to move a few blocks, and they damaged so much of her property that yelp reimbursed her for the entire move. When she reached out to Impel regarding these damages, they were responsive, but not helpful, and eventually said that they would not be unable to pay for the damages. In the past I used Golden Bay Relocation and had a good experience. At the time of this move I remembered their name incorrectly and thought they'd gone out of business during COVID. I recently remembered their name correctly and looks like they are still around. read more

I had an excellent experience working with Impel Moving! From Dave immediately sending me a quote to Tim and his team of movers (Alex and Ronnie), everything went smoothly. Dave sent a confirmation text the day before the move. He also reassured me it was no problem to swap refrigerators and stoves at no additional cost; just the added time added to the total. Tim and his crew arrived on time and all were very respectful and careful of our items. It was the hottest week of the month (90 degrees!) and they all never had a bad attitude or complained. We even realized the stove couldn't fit and needed to have them swap it back and they never showed any frustration. Paul and his team helped our move of about 6 miles from a 2 story 2000sf house to 1800 tri level house and had its challenges. We boxed and disessembled 95% of our stuff and impel came and cleaned up the rest. They wrapped all the furniture in moving blankets and really came in and hit the ground running. Our quote was 6 to 8 hrs, and it took 8.5 hours, which was fine with me because these guys were not slacking at all and were going 100%. I just used Impel Moving services on Jan. 10th to move 15 minutes within SF from a narrow ground floor apartment to a 3rd floor apartment with a tiny elevator and it was excellent. I had packed up everything when they arrived, but my furniture required significant disassembly due to small narrow hallway. I was impressed that Sergei and Alex automatically offered to reconfigure furniture differently at my new place, because they intuitively understood it would fit my new place better. They may have underestimated how many items I owned--I have a larger set of kitchen tools, so the initial time estimate was off, but they stayed and made sure everything was moved and reassembled. They communicated very well--asked about unique things and how to handle things when it was unclear. They were professional, I would highly recommend them. My only suggestion is to make sure you get packing boxes that are easy to move in and out of your units--I felt my boxes that I chose were a bit too big for my narrow first apartment which added a lot of time for them to maneuver out of there. In addition, though I saved my old original boxes for my bed frame, it was easier for them to wrap it manually instead of packing back into the box. If you have time, repack your things into old boxes you kept or just recycle them, because it becomes inefficient if they need to use your old boxes. 10/10 would recommend. read more
