We booked full packing services and the guys jumped right in and got going on packing everything in a super professional manner. Our belongings were packing with a lot of care into boxes and furniture wrapped super well to prepare for a few months of storage and then a long distance move. The guys really went above and beyond to pack our pods really efficiently and maximized every bit of space. With that said we didn't end up having enough room so we scrambled and Adam made a storage and moving solution work for us for what we had remaining. I've never used movers before but Impel was fantastic. Communication up front was very clear, and they were very responsive on getting our buildings HOA the right certificate of insurance. I was feeling a bit nervous since I only got an automated confirmation email the day prior, but they arrived right on time at the POD facility in Oakland, and had their truck loaded in half an hour (8'x8'x7' POD). The team was very professional and careful with everything, I found some scuffs from shipping across the country but nothing broken or damaged from Impel's moving. Really great experience. Things with our seemingly straightforward move were going smoothly and ahead of schedule, until a steeper-than-we-realized driveway at our new home meant the moving truck couldn't get all the way up. The team tried all the angles, but it was impossible. Without missing a beat, they parked at the bottom of the hill, and hustled bringing all the furniture up a steep 200 ft+ driveway into our new home, and still made it only a little late to their afternoon appointment with someone else. We requested 3 movers for a 1-bedroom given the amount of furniture and items (had enough stuff to count as a 2 bedroom), plus knowing the moving truck would have to be parked relatively far away, and in busy areas. They worked seamlessly together and communicated effectively with me and my partner as we continued packing. We used Impel for our house move in SF, including packing and moving. The scheduling process was easy, and the packing job was well done and efficient. Most importantly, nothing was damaged or broken in the move. Where these guys really impressed us was with the move itself. First, our moving day was during the atmospheric river in SF which brought heavy rains and flash flooding, and our movers were total troopers throughout. Secondly, we needed a large and heavy sleeper sofa moved in to room down a somewhat narrow flight of stairs with a right angle halfway down. We didn't think it would be possible but they made it work by taking down (and later reinstalling) the handrail and sheer perseverance. I would hire these guys again in a heart beat. They weren't the cheapest option but definitely worth it in my opinion. read more

My experience with Impel was great! They showed up on time and navigated a pretty gnarly parking lot in order to park their moving truck. They also navigated a pretty poorly packed apartment (I'd had under two days to pack :-( ) and managed to get all of my stuff safely on the truck. They disassembled and reassembled the big furniture, saving probably days of moving in time for me. They were kind and professional and super super helpful and not single thing (not even a plant!) was damaged. No crazy hidden fees, everything upfront. Literally nothing I'd been anxious about turned out to be an issue. They even had some extra boxes and moving blankets. Definitely worth the price. They have 5 stars for a reason. From the beginning they had outstanding communication and fast responses. Adam, was in constant communication with me and was with me every step of the way. He was able to procure a Certificate of Insurance (COI) for my HOA and also kept me in the loop ASAP under a deadline. The booking process was extremely easy - receiving a quote and also booking point A to point B. I received calendar invites to ensure and confirm my time and it was even flexible when I needed to push back the pick up time. My drivers showed up on time, texted me, and called me when they were at my address. They were extremely patient, kind, and flexible with my schedule, as well as hearing my concerns about the move and the area that I live(d) in. I offered to help - but they literally took care of everything! All I had to do was work on my own things while they took care of the rest. They knew how to move any items - from fragile to big and treated my items with care. They double wrapped all my items and also carried them with care up and down the stairs. We ordered a 3-man team for our move from Milpitas to Emerald Hills, and Islam, Alex #1, and Alex #2 did a phenomenal job despite a lot of extra complications and asks. For example, they: - honored our request to be as clean as possible with our new home - shifted our furniture a few times to ensure best placement on top of our rugs - moved our outdoor furniture from lower deck to upper - helped dismount my Rogue wall squat rack from the old home and successfully installed it in our new garage despite the floor being uneven The only downside I'd say about Impel Moving is the estimated quote was incredibly inaccurate. They said 5 hours, and we ended up with almost 14 so please be wary of a drastic difference in quote to final cost. Bad moving company - Slow - took the entire day to pack up my one bedroom and a few items in the kitchen. No living room furniture. - Not careful - had a box of glassware with labeled top and bottom sides. They didn't care and left it upside down. - Poor communication - they left to go to where I was moving my stuff to without telling me. - Don't follow instructions - there were items I told them not to pack but they packed them anyways. I used Brother Movers once before Impel and then went back after Impel: - Impel didn't go as fast. Brothers were clearly trying to go as fast as possible. Their moving technique was much more efficient than impel. Brothers are experts at using plastic wrap to bunch items together to move at once. - Impel didn't have the same equipment that brothers had. Impel has several blankets but not enough. Brothers protected all my furniture with blankets. - I've used Brothers twice and had great experiences both times. The one time I used Impel, I was left really upset and frustrated. - All these ppl giving impel 5 stars probably haven't used brother movers. TL;dr - avoid impel. Brother movers is better. read more

They called to let me know when they would be arriving, although the actual start time was about a half hour later than the original time frame given (early morning). Our driver/crew lead was Aidan. He worked with Akim. They are friendly and efficient workers. We had done most of our stuff other than furniture ahead of time, so it only took them about an hour! Of course, I still had to pay the 3 hour minimum (I paid the cash rate $115/hr + $50 fuel fee + tips). Let me tell you .. in a nut shell, save yourself time and hire this team. My family and I moved this weekend. We were leaving a four bedroom home with two young kids. I am not a hoarder and I generally keep things pretty minimum but you do not realize how much stuff you have until you start filling boxes. I am old now and so are my friends so gone are the days I rent a U haul and solicit my friends with beer and pizza. It's hard enough juggling packing and young kids. I contacted atleast a dozen moving places via Yelp. Save your time and research, I did it. Some were outrageously priced but Impel and a couple of others were in the same ballpark. I have learned all moving companies will charge you a minimum of 3 hrs. You can choose between 3 or 4 movers (more movers, more money, but may be faster?) Impel had solid positive reviews here on Yelp. I met w/ Dennis via zoom and he was very professional, patient, and realistic. I had this silly thought that everything was going to be done in one trip and be less than 3 hours. I was WRONG. I had a lot of stuff ... the movers were professional, on time, and MOVING. No pun intended =P They followed my wants and asked clarifying questions when something needed additional discussion. Nothing was damaged. We finished in the 5 hour range I think? I don't even remember anymore. This is with ME bringing just about EVERYTHING to the garage and wrapping furniture and TV's. I was happy with the entire situation. I don't intend to move again...
