The laptop was brought to Easy Fix in Allston, MA for virus removal.  The representative specifically explained the laptop will go out to Framingham, MA for service, with a completion of three to four days. I called the business approximately one week later after not hearing from Easy Fix with an update. The representative stated they needed more time because the laptop is old.  From week two to three, I called a couple of times and went in person to inquire about a status. The representative recommended an upgrade to the laptop in which I agreed with the understanding documents on the hard drive were transferred to a pen drive, and a pen drive was dropped off at the business store.  I called on the fifth week to inquire about the status; the representative indicated that due to the laptop being old, it was not possible to upgrade, and the intended upgrade to the laptop took a very long time, not possible to upgrade. I said I understand but would like to pick up the laptop in Framingham. The representative stated the location in Framingham is not a place I could walk in and pick up the laptop.  At the end of fifth week, I was able to pick up the laptop at Easy Fix in Allston, MA. Unfortunately, at the opening of the laptop, the following two screens continuously populate; the first screen "preparing for automatic repair," followed by the second screen "your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.  We'll restart for you."  I powered off and, on the laptop several times, and the same two screens went into play again.  Additionally, the laptop was dropped on surface, there are cracks and pieces broken off.  Also, extremely visible, the laptop was opened where the hard drive is stored. I called Easy Fix to notify about the issue and provided photos; the business has not responded. When picking up the laptop, I paid for the service and walked away from Easy Fix with the understanding an upgrade was not possible. I didn't expect the laptop to be non-functional. Prior to handing the laptop to Easy Fix, the laptop was functional, I was able to access business and personal emails, internet, create and complete Excel, PowerPoint presentations, and type letters.

I brought my laptop in because it would no longer boot up correctly after running Norton Utilities and the automatic repair tools wouldn't work. I was told that the prognosis was pretty grimm and we could recover the data, but would have to restore the OS an reinstall all of the software, etc. They were very friendly and just trying to be honest, which I appreciate. They said they would try a few things, but weren't optimistic. Well, I'm glad I didn't listen. I did a 5 minute search on Google that led to an article that took me through (step-by-step) fixing the problem in 3 minutes. My computer was immediately back to being FULLY functional with no loss of data or programs. I guess this would be a 5 start review had someone said: those are hard errors to fix, but we can look online and research to see if there are fixes out there for this type of problem. I would have left them my computer. But would they have searched or just come to the conclusion that a wipe of the computer was the only fix? Note: I consider myself to be very computer literate and only went looking for "expert" help when I couldn't figure out a resolution. In hindsight, I now realize i could have done a google search earlier and saved myself a trip.

Got it back and they had installed a 'cleaning' program on it without asking or telling me. I had to ask THREE TIMES (in the course of my several calls and visits while my computer was being worked on) if they would install a new hard drive and system on the machine, and how much that would be, thinking I'd just archive this drive, and Sam just kept saying, "You don't really need it." Umm - I'll be the judge of that. YOU just tell me if you want my business. Maybe it's because I'm a gray-haired old lady and I don't deserve the respect and professionalism of a straight-forward answer (or any honest communication about my computer), but is that any better? I definitely should have came here first! Jeff looked at my laptop right away while I was sitting there. They tried to find the root of the issue and I was able to sit there and watch what was going on. He also was talking me through what he was doing and why he was doing it, which really put my nervous mind at ease. Their prices were very reasonable (although it sucks to pay $200 for a new laptop screen) and they called me when my laptop was going to take longer than originally expected to fix. They even stayed later than their office hours so that I could pick up my laptop after work.
