The Piccolo cheese and meat board is very good, they give you a generous portion including the bread which is fresh and warm. The cheeses and meats are also fresh and high quality. The Aperol Spritz are refreshing and have a great taste. The arugula and smoked salmon salad is also very good! We came two nights in a row. And end the night with the tiramisu which is fantastic and delicious. Service is friendly and attentive and the ambiance is very nice looking over the city and with nearby waterfall fountains. This restaurant was actually recommended by a friend. My husband and I are very glad we made time for it. It was one of the most delicious meals we had on the island. One of my favorite foods is spaghetti puttanesca. So of course, I ordered it, no regret or disappointment. It was the best puttanesca I've ever had, and gave me some insights how I might change my own recipe. My husband is more of a pizza guy and ordered a pizza which was both thin and chewy at the same time. It's just something you have to experience. If you like Italian food and you happen to be in Waikiki, you don't want to miss this restaurant. You will not be sorry. The owner is actually Italian, so if you speak any than it's a good place to practice. The owner and staff are so friendly. Okay, the evening started with a phone call to the restaurant at 5pm. I asked if we needed a reservation for two for the same day at 7pm. The person I assume was the owner or manager told me that no reservation is necessary for just two people. Are you sure? I asked. He replied that no reservation was necessary and for us to just come right in anytime. Great! Right? NOPE! We arrived at 7pm and the rudest waitress you'll ever meet immediately told us that the wait would be 20 minutes or so. I told her that we would have made a reservation but we were told none was necessary. She immediately told me she was busy and had work to do so I could just sit and wait. She was totally rude and brushed us off. A second waitress came (I think her name was Bella) and said to follow her and she sat us down at a table for two. A few seconds later the first rude waitress came and stood over us and started to tell us that we were going to have to get up because there were people waiting. We were surprised and told her that we were instructed to sit down here. That's when the owner quickly stepped in and said everything was okay and to please remain seated at the table. The look and the anger of the rude blonde waitress was palpable! We ordered our food and got out of there as soon as we could. It was not a pleasant experience for us. We paid our bill and I tipped Bella 21% for being nice to us. As I walked out I gave her an additional twenty dollar bill as a token of my gratitude. $41 in tips for Bella. None for the rude blonde waitress! The food was good and the restaurant owner/ manager was very friendly and nice. We liked him! read more

This restaurant is a hole in the wall little Italian owned place. The staff was very nice and sweet but it was a bit difficult to understand one another because they did not speak English very well. This was a bit difficult for us because we were not fully understanding one another. In addition, we asked for a refill on our soda which we were not aware that it's not free and we were charged for it. I did not like how the waiteesss did not mention there are no free refills I would've liked to know that prior to ordering. After mentioning this they removed one of the sodas which was nice of them. The pizza was good and the pasta was alright. We ordered the tomato pasta with bacon but only got literally three pieces of bacon. The food was good nothing special but they need to work on a few things which would make the restaurant better. read more

He told me yes no problem, just come on down, it'll be ready in 10 to 15 minutes. When we arrived at the restaurant, the owner/manager with an attitude told us he could not accommodate us, that he misunderstood, and immediately started paying attention and hustling other customers. These included caprese and alla sorrentina pizzas, lasagna, penne puttanesca, and spaghetti amatriciana. The food was tasty, well seasoned, and overall a great meal. Even better, was the excellent service. The waiters were personable, provided their insights on the menu, going above and beyond in their service and contribution to the meal. This is what pushed them to 5 stars. My only regret was not taking more photos of the meal. This is a fantastic family owned place which deserves its praise. This was my first time dining at IL Tappo and I was highly impressed! The service was impeccable and the food was AMAZING. I'm not exaggerating, the bruschetta here is by far the best I've ever had (trust me, I dine out a lot!) and the Calabrese pizza was epic! This was the most sub par dining experience we had in all of Oahu. The food was average but the service was really really bad. I'm not saying this to be mean but if the service was better it would be an average experience for a touristy area. The two servers didn't understand most of the order or requests. I hope the place gets better because it has good potential in that spot. Here are a few of the issues: White wine served in a hot glass. Very small pour for $17. Asked for a lemon for a gin and soda and she brought a whole lime cut in half. Lmao. She still seemed confused. The caprese salad came without balsamic which we kindly waited for the bartender to come by and asked him for it. The balsamic tasted amazing might have been house made. The salmon crostini was good but I would spread the pesto across the bread because that definitely makes the bites better a little quenelle in the center wasn't enough. The $30 lasagna was lack luster and very small. But may have been house made pasta which I like. Puttanesca was very well seasoned and on point. But my entree was five times the size of the lasagna. The tiramisu mousse was too sweet but the mousse was stable. I would layer it properly and cut the sugar down to 1/4 of the recipe so you can taste the coffee and cocoa. Also the red wine was turned but we didn't send it back knowing the girls wouldn't understand us. The check came out to $180 for two people. We gave $250 and We asked to break a $50 bill. They didn't understand and twenty minutes later brought back the change with the $50. We explained and waited again. So we could tip. We usually tip 25% or more depending on the service and my other half will make sure everyone is taken care of even if the service is bad. As we are industry people too. Goes to show once again that just because you are pretty doesn't mean you should work in restaurants. Keep them as hostesses. You need competent people as servers. Please train and make changes as it could have been a better experience. read more

Just watch out for their sneaky tactics of manually adding the tip WITHOUT your consent. Essentially, taking that power away from you to make a decision. Definitely take a second/third look at your receipt and do NOT allow them to take advantage you whatsoever. I live here and this is very disappointing.
