My friend and I were able to get a last-minute reservation at Il Falo, and the host was very kind and welcoming when I arrived. Once we were seated, there seemed to be some confusion with the service. We were greeted by two different servers who both said they would be helping us, and we overheard some frustration that indicated things were a bit hectic. For drinks, I enjoyed mine, it was delicious and strong. My friend, who is a bartender, sent her old fashioned back because it contained simple syrup. The remake still had a hint of it. My friend loved her pizza, but my dish was served cold. Overall, the staff was kind and the food was solid for a hotel restaurant, but the experience could have been improved with a little more organization from the staff. read more

( As a critique: the marketing needs to be updated) As for the experience as a whole, it was an enjoyable one. There was no wait. Pleasing overall aesthetic. Waitress Dominique was accommodating & friendly. The focaccia bread was very tasty ( flavorful, warm and ever better with the olive oil available on the table) The menu is quite simple. We had a reservation for Valentine's Day and still weren't seated until an hour after our scheduled time. On a night that's supposed to feel special and thoughtfully planned, that kind of delay is incredibly frustrating. We ordered the Valentine's special, which was clearly advertised on their website as including one shared appetizer, two entrées, and two desserts. However, the manager insisted we only received one dessert--despite us showing the website and even having other servers acknowledge that it included two. Instead of honoring what was advertised, we were made to feel like we were asking for something unreasonable. To make matters worse, our drinks didn't arrive until an hour and fifteen minutes into dinner. The service throughout the night was disorganized and inattentive. One of our appetizers never came, yet we were still charged for it. On top of that, they attempted to charge us separately for the one dessert we received--even though dessert was supposed to be included in the Valentine's deal. We also found two additional incorrect charges on the bill that had to be disputed and corrected. What should have been a romantic and enjoyable evening turned into a stressful and disappointing experience. The lack of accountability from management and the overall poor service completely ruined the night. We will absolutely not be returning. read more

Pretty good, solid Italian food. I ordered the arancini and the beef bolognese. I thought the arancini were a little over fried, the breading was too thick, and the inside of them was a little cold (cube of unmelted cheese). The pasta noodles in the bolognese were thick and long, cooked al dente, but there were not enough, in comparison with the amount of meat and sauce on the plate. Service was friendly, parking was easy (right at the hotel), and I'd stop by again if I was in the area, to try a wood-fired pizza. read more

The ambiance was nice inside, clean and comfortable. I ordered the Cesar salad. The flavor combination was outstanding but In every bite I got sand. Returned the salad and stuck with a Margarita pizza that was ordered to share, on the side. Pizza was okay but had burnt spots on the bottom that came through in the flavor. The staff was friendly but I ordered water and unsweetened tea with lemon, I got sweet tea and water without any lemons. I didn't say anything. I just think the staff on this day aren't focused on their jobs. Wouldn't recommend just based on our experience. read more

The cube of mozzarella cheese in the middle fell out. Not oozing at all and cool to the touch. Shrimp scampi had no flavor whatsoever. Could not taste any garlic at all. That's one of the main ingredients! Shrimp was cooked perfectly, but no sear. Poached in water? Chicken parmigiana was tough to cut and eat. Sauce was dark, thick and bitter leading me to believe it was reheated for numerous days. Pasta was tossed in the same sauce, and covered with shaved parm, but the parm was tasteless also. Not a good value for the lack of flavor and not recommended for anyone that likes good Italian food. read more

I went here for some after dinner drinks with some friends late on a Saturday night and really Enjoyed it. The inside is beautiful and the service was good. We sat at a small round table just outside the bar seating area. We all ordered some cocktails, and everyone seemed to agree the drinks were strong and also tasted good. The price of the drinks are on the higher end for the area, but I felt the quality was worth it. I had an espresso martini and also tried my spouses dirty martini. Both were good. Our friends had two whiskey based cocktails from the cocktail menu which they enjoyed. We also had an order for truffle fries - SO GOOD and a margarita flatbread, which was my only "complaint." It was not very good, the sauce and flavors in general felt pretty underwhelming (especially for a restaurant of that caliber/price point) and actually tasted a tad bit undercooked. Still, I am giving them a solid 4 as everything else was so good, I'm wondering if may have just been an off night for that dish. Will definitely be returning to try out their main menu and/or other pre or post dinner drinks! read more

The BEST parking is in the rear of the building with easy access to the restaurant through a well appointed access--decorated, accessorized, climate controlled area. We set a reservation for 5pm on a Saturday night to celebrate our daughters birthday. We were seated immediately at 5pm when they opened. It is connected to the westin hotel and Starbucks which was interesting. Our hostess Julia was very polite and provided a great overview of the restaurant. Our server Greg was very focused on our table even when things got busy. He kept our table clean wand was respectful to our discussions by not interrupting and coming over when there was a break in conversation. The meatball appetizer was 3 large meatballs that were most and flavorful. The chicken parm was tasty with good tasting spaghetti. Only improvement would be more sauce/gravy and chicken cooked a little less (see slight burn in picture). Goat cheese and hony ravioli was ok but the sauce was too sweet and needed maybe another type of cheese to thicken it. The steak and fries were excellent. The fries tasted like they were cook we d in duck fat but not sure. The chocolate gellato was amazing! The black currantvtea was not on the elmenu but a bartender special and was great. We plan to return and try one of the signature pizzas. Recommend more mocktails as we don't drink alcohol and the bartender looked like he was very talented. read more

I've been wanting to try Il Falo since I knew it was coming here. I'm a fan of Italian-inspired food and I like that Il Falo cooks with wood fire and quality ingredients. I dined here with a friend for a Birthday celebration. II Falo is a clean beautifulfully decorated restaurant. The staff here are kind and professional. Our waiter was Ava. The low table we were seated at was very comfortable I ordered the French 75, meatball appetizer, and the NY strip as an entree. All of my food had a great flavor and the ingredients tasted like quality ingredients. The only thing lacking was the temperature of the food. The food was not hot, which made me curious about the preparation process. For a menu that claims to be designed in collaboration with The James Beard Award-winning chef, I think I expected a way better food experience. read more

Bad service! Went here the day before Valentine's Day. Thank goodness I did not pay the $61 per person for the valentines special, as the service was absolutely awful. Had a reservation at 7 pm and the waitress did not come to our table until 7:34 pm. Didn't even bring us water then. Continued to wait for everything. The warm bread that came out to begin with was out of this world, dipped in the olive oil and pepper on the table, just phenomenal! Dessert always unexpectedly good (I don't have a sweet tooth, despite what my wife says!) This was such a polarizing experience! The restaurant (and the hotel it is in) have only been open a few months, and we came on a Sunday night so maybe that's why we had the issues we did? We started off really strong with the Hamachi Crudo and the Calamari - both excellent! The calamari is not traditional, it's more inspired. I asked the server about the sweet drizzle and she told us that it was a honey lemon aoli but there was no mayo in the sauce so she had to be wrong about that. For the main courses we got the pappardelle bolognese and the pork chop. The bolognese was fine. Not good - just fine. The pasta was over cooked, and the sauce was extremely bland. Salt (from the table next to us) got it at least some taste. The pork chop was a disaster. I ordered it medium rare. The server came back and told me the chef recommended it medium well - and that should have been enough to tell me to change the order - no self respecting chef recommends a pork chop medium well. I told her to tell him that I was ok with that only if he could make sure it came out juicy and tender, and she consulted with him and assured me that it would. You already know the next part - it was dry and tough and inedible. I sent it back, and the kitchen wanted to try again and make another one which I agreed to. But after waiting 10 minutes the server came over with our desserts and told me they made them because the kitchen was closing. I had to explain to her that no, we didn't want the pork chops to come after the gelato. Soooooo - a server who needs training, a kitchen who can't execute - really this should have been 2 stars but I'm cutting them some slack for being new. read more

I'm usually not a fan of hotel food, but this place surprised me. The noodles in the bolognese was made fresh. The Caesar salad didn't look that interesting, but it tasted great! The croutons in the salad were unique, it was a light crispy (thin-cracker-like) texture, but looked like a hard baguette. The meatball was very filling with the bread. I visited Il Falo which is located inside The new Westin hotel on Macaw St. This is an area that is currently being developed. Il Falo which means bonfire is local and appeared to present some of the aesthetics that I had in mind for a relaxed birthday dinner close to home. The open concept and modern farm table interior design was refreshing. The restaurant truly pairs well with the Westin's modern contemporary and unique flair. Typically I do not have high expectations of hotel restaurants but I was impressed with the service here. Ava was our waitress and she was excellent. I enjoyed her spirit and dining recommendations. She aimed to please. We started with focaccia bread. Focaccia is my favorite when dining Italian. The bread missed the mark for me. It was served cold and was not flavorful at all. Disappointing. The condiments for this were just plain olive oil which was not good at all. Had a weird aftertaste. I decided on the Sicilian Spike for my cocktail. This was a perfect choice for me. The Tajin rim and fresh cucumber made it aesthetically appealing and delicious. The presentation of the menu items at Il Falo is spot on for me. Everything was plated to perfection but many items missed the mark concerning freshness and temperature. Meatballs arrived as an appetizer and they were luke warm. They appeared beautiful and delicious but appeared to have been sitting for awhile. The sauce was luke warm. I ordered arancini which are Italian rice balls with a similar recipe to pimento balls here in the south. They were very tiny compared to arancini I have had previously. Typically they are made the size of meatballs. They were not served hot as well. Our entrees arrived and I ordered the bolognese with a side of zucchini in pesto sauce. I enjoyed both equally. Really flavorful and rich. The zucchini was very creative with the pesto sauce and how they sliced the squash as well. The pasta was said to be made in house and I really enjoyed it. However, again the dish did not arrive hot. I sampled my friend's steak and it was the same issue. Luke warm steak ? I would assume the chef and kitchen could not move quickly enough for the night. Our plates probably all came out at different times or were pre-prepped. This left much to the imagination. At these price points, we need hot food to be served. It was after 9:00 p.m. and we could not possibly think to send plates back. Had it been earlier, I absolutely would have. I received a free dessert of choice to celebrate my birthday. I decided on the chocolate torte and it was everything I hoped for. I enjoyed the fudge like mousse decked out in hazelnuts, chocolate, marshmallow whip and a beautiful orange flower which is my favorite color.I would absolutely return for cocktails at the bar but won't race back for the menu items. We dined with a party of five, including one vegan, and we thought the food was generally good. They were accommodating, adjusting a menu item to suit the vegan in our group, which we really appreciated. I personally had the chicken parmesan and thought it was outstanding. I was told the Americana Pizza was a little on the soggy side. The ambience was overall quite nice, but the acoustics made it loud and difficult to hear conversations at times. Sound seemed to bounce off the ceiling and walls, making it feel like there were more people than there actually were. However, the service could use improvement. For example, my wife's salad (her entree) arrived much later than the rest of our meals, and we were told the reason was that there was only one person making all the salads. Additionally, our server seemed to be assigned too many tables, which led to delays with drink orders and food delivery. Overall, good food and a pleasant atmosphere, but service and acoustics could be better. I truly believe this could be an outstanding restaurant. They have all the key ingredients (pun intended) to make it so but appear to need more staff to ensure timely service & consistent quality. read more

Our 2nd time here for Italian. Overall, a very favorable experience. Food is of very high quality, and you do pay for it. Which I'm ok with if the quality is there. Everything made to order, so no luke warm dishes that are supposed to be hot, and are. Very fresh and flavorful. We tried the ricotta spread with toasted bread. Bread was probably overdone and a softer offering would have hit the spot. Wife got bolognese and I did the gnocchi, both delish. I'm will say the gnocchi portion was quite small, but very tasty. Wine selection was quite good, and the warm bread served complimentary to start was terrific. Finally, service was adequate and professional. Overall, we're still fans and will be back! read more

The ingredients were all fresh and the flavors popped! The steak was cooked perfectly but needed more seasoning especially salt. The NY Strip was cooked perfectly but packed seasoning, especially salt. The Bolognese was amazing! I highly recommend it, although a bigger portion would be much appreciated! The ambience of the restaurant is nothing special but it will definitely make the cut as a nice date night spot. Overall 7/10! read more

We were there for a special event at this new restaurant and had a fabulous experience. We ordered our cocktails at the bar -- the Sicilian Spike was my favorite with it's lime and cucumber flavors but the La Fiore was good, too. They were both strong -- had to make husband help me finish the La Fiore. An enormous spread of appetizers, pizzas and cheeses were laid out buffet style. My favorites were the steak and the pear salad. Husband loved all the varieties of pizzas and the arancini. I do really wish they had a gluten free pizza option. Wait staff was phenomenal -- constantly refilling our waters, taking away our empty plates (the buffet plates were TINY) and asking if we needed anything. Decor was elegant and inviting and seating was comfortable. I also saw an outdoor area with heaters that looked inviting. I can't wait to go back and try this place for dinner. read more

Imagine a restaurant with a quiet ambience & fine dining. This is not the place. Who designs a restaurant with marvel walls & ceilings..? It was noisier than a stadium at halftime. The food was really good, but the appetizer was late. The 3 of us could not carry on a decent conversation and enjoy our meals. The highlight of the evening was the fire alarm activating. Have been enjoying dinner here for the past 18 months when I travel to RDU for work every other week. The staff is always welcoming and attentive. The food is consistent and flavorful.
