Had a wonderful dinner at Il Brigante this past Friday night. Food is top notch...we had the pasta w/eggplant, brussels sprouts, a salad with fennel and pears, and a side of potatoes. The two of us pretty much finished everything, it was so good! Service is friendly and food came out quickly despite the crowds. The restaurant loses one star because it's absolutely packed to the gills and really noisy. You can barely walk between tables and you have to yell across the table to be heard. I'd definitely return but on a non-rainy evening when we can sit outside! read more

Taylor's Tayke: Il Brigante feels like a classic neighborhood Italian spot with a warm atmosphere and dishes that lean heavily into comfort and richness. Sitting on Front Street adds to the experience, especially for a slower dinner where you're sharing plates, sipping cocktails, and settling into the night. The menu has a little bit of everything, from seafood to pastas to desserts, and the homemade touches throughout the meal really stand out. My Tipsy Tayke: The Burnt Orange was my favorite drink of the night. Unique flavor profile with a slight bitterness that made it memorable. The Toasted Almond was smooth, tasty, and not overly milky, while the Espresso Martini tasted authentic and properly balanced. My Taysty Tayke: Get Down & Dirty, Expeditiously: Lobster Pasta Easily my standout dish. The pasta itself was truly delicious, rich and satisfying, even though I wish there was a bit more lobster included. Standout: Truffle Mushroom Pappardelle The pasta was thick and beautifully cooked with a subtle truffle flavor that wasn't overwhelmingly creamy. The Sea Salt Focaccia Bread came crispy, soft, and crunchy all at once, especially paired with their spicy homemade olive oil. The Calamari was another strong dish, not overly breaded with flavor that slowly builds as you eat it. Moist, seasoned, and cooked really well. The Wild Caught Salmon tasted very fresh and natural. The Salad with apple and arugula had a tangy freshness that became weirdly addictive. The Pizza was decent overall, though the cheese slid off a bit and the crust leaned harder than I'd prefer. The Shrimp had good flavor but still came with the skin on, which may or may not be your thing. The Avocado Salad was okay but didn't stand out as much compared to the rest of the meal. Desserts: The Cannoli was excellent with the perfect balance of crunch, sweetness, and cream. The Crème Brûlée was soft and creamy, and the Chocolate Pizza was fun and indulgent, basically chocolate layered over pizza bread with a sticky, mouthwatering finish. Service: Welcoming and paced well for a longer dinner experience. Plates From My Visit: Sea Salt Focaccia Bread Calamari Arugula Apple Salad Pizza Shrimp Burrata Avocado Salad Lobster Pasta Truffle Mushroom Pappardelle Wild Caught Salmon Chocolate Pizza Crème Brûlée Cannoli Burnt Orange Toasted Almond Espresso Martini In Conclusion: A cozy Italian dining experience with standout pastas, strong cocktails, and comforting desserts. Come hungry, order a few things to share, and definitely don't skip the pasta. Stamped by Elajas read more

Came here with a party of 8 expecting a nice Italian dinner. What we accidentally booked instead was an immersive theater experience called Waiting for Gnocchi. Let me start with the positives: the food was actually pretty solid when it eventually arrived. The pizza was good, the pasta was good, and overall the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. Unfortunately, we aged visibly before getting to enjoy it. Our mains took nearly TWO HOURS to arrive. Not exaggerating. At one point we started measuring time not in minutes, but in "tables seated after us who had already eaten, paid, and left." Multiple groups came in after us, ordered, ate entire meals, discussed the fall of Western civilization, and departed while we were still staring hopefully into the middle distance waiting for appetizers. Speaking of appetizers: some arrived during the main course like surprise DLC content. Others simply vanished into the universe entirely. I assume they're still circling lower Manhattan looking for parking. Service was bizarrely robotic. One server approached the table several times without speaking or making eye contact, like an NPC whose dialogue tree hadn't loaded yet. We genuinely weren't sure if he worked there, was deeply disappointed in us personally, or was communicating through interpretive silence. The whole evening had the energy of an Italian restaurant being operated by people who had heard vague rumors of how restaurants function. Again, the frustrating part is that the food itself was good. If this review were based solely on taste, it would be a very different story. But dining out is also about experience, timing, and not wondering whether your entrée is being hand-crafted in Tuscany and rowed across the Atlantic. By the end of the night, our table had formed trauma bonds. Would I come back? Maybe -- but only if I had absolutely nowhere to be for the next 6 to 8 business days. read more

First day in New York, and my wife had a great idea: ask the people at the hotel for a recommendation. We were told how amazing Il Brigante is. The storefront is small, and we likely would not have found it otherwise. After being seated, we struck up a conversation with a woman at the next table. She told us that she loves this place, and she comes here as often as she possibly can. And her son is meeting her for the seventh year in a row for his birthday. Those are some solid recommendations before we took our first bite. Having eaten here, I can understand why this place inspires so much passion. Freshly baked, complementary bread was served with a balsamic reduction in olive oil. This arrived at the same time as an excellent Caesar salad. This is the sort of bread that you want to savor, which we would have done if the pasta weren't served so quickly. The salad was simple, but flawless. I can't remember thinking about how fresh the lettuce was in a salad before, but I thought that as I mixed the thick dressing with the beautiful Romaine leaves. The pasta is not only served quickly, but it was hot. And, I do mean hot. I can't remember the last time I got pasta anywhere that was served this freshly from the pan. The Farfalle alla Campagnola is bowtie pasta served with mild Italian sausage, sun-dried tomatoes, and broccoli rabe, tossed in a white wine and garlic sauce. The pasta itself has a nice chew to it, and the balance with the other elements in the bowl is wonderful. The only thing stopping me from wanting to eat every bit of it was wanting to have some of wife's Fettuccini alla Bolognese. Unlike the bland look-alikes from lesser restaurants, the beef is rich and flavorful. And, the fettuccine is made with the same care as the other pasta here. I found the serving size to be perfect, but my wife couldn't finish hers. We don't have a microwave at our hotel, but we still picked at the cold pasta until every bit of it was gone. We are only in town for four days, but I have a feeling we will have another meal here, even with all that New York City has to offer. read more

Really enjoyable experience! I got the spaghetti vongole and ate the entire thing...they are also generous with the burrata portions. Cozy inside so be prepared to sit close to other parties, and they will have music playing on the speakers, but wasn't too loud for us to not hear each other. Complimentary bread wasn't the best but it's free so I can't dock any stars for that. Everyone loved our food and service was great. Would return read more

Very tasty food in a small yet incredibly cozy restaurant. This spot is perfect for a date night or a casual dinner with family. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. The prices were very fair for the portion sizes, which made the experience even better. The only thing that would have enhanced our visit was a bit more engagement from our server--introducing themselves when they came to the table, checking in to make sure everything was okay (we did need napkins), and not just stopping by when it was time for the check. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a comfortable, intimate dining experience with great food. read more

My partner and I visited Il Brigante with reservation, and upon our arrival, we were asked to wait outside the building because a private party had booked the entire inside restaurant. We waited 20 minutes to be seated, watching as the staff were actively placing new tables and seats in their already crowded outside seating area. It's my belief that in an effort to ensure as much profit from the night on top of their private party reservation, Il Brigante staff delivered extremely poor service. We barely received enough time to look at the menus before the waitress came up to us and asked for our orders. It is important to note that our order included an appetizer. Bread was brought out, and then for the next 1.5 hours, the staff never checked in with us again. We watched as numerous tables who were seated after us and in larger parties received not only their appetizers, but their entrees. When we finally asked the waitress what the status of our order was, she had no idea what we had ordered nor what was going on. Her and two other staff members approached us, asked what we had ordered, and then searched around to see what had happened. They eventually admitted that the order had never been placed. Their attempt to make things right was to simply place the order and rush it. We had no faith in their assurances after an hour and a half of waiting. We left the restaurant. If they had made a true effort to reconcile things (ie. a discounted meal, free dessert, a free drink), rather than assuring us they would rush the order (and perhaps sacrifice the quality of the food in doing so), we would have felt the customer service was better. Mistakes happen, but as it stands I find it incredibly poor service to not only fail to check on a table at all in the 1.5 hours we were made to wait, but to do nothing to remediate the situation. read more

Today We ate at Il Brigante and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. It started with the service. Our waitress seemed unfriendly and annoyed from the moment we arrived, which immediately created an unpleasant atmosphere. The food was equally disappointing. The burrata was served with nothing more than a handful of dry arugula, which felt very underwhelming for the price. The clam pasta was just average--nothing memorable or worth recommending. To make matters worse, our food was served on chipped plates. When we pointed it out, the waitress told us it was "part of the restaurant's style." ??!!We founm Overall, the prices are high, but the food quality, presentation, and service simply don't justify the cost. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

This restaurant is very small and cozy with a few outdoor tables. It's very close to the Seaport. Service was ok but a little pushy. The pizza we had as an appetizer was just meh...OK. My grilled chicken breast was unfortunately tough and dry. The green salad was good and had a tasty vinegarette dressing. They have ONE bathroom in the whole place and if you are waiting on line for it, there is nowhere to wait except right in the doorway to the kitchen which is a tight squeeze from all the waitstaff activity. read more

Lunch on Friday al fresco at il Brigante on a quiet side street near South Street Seaport. We started with the arancine. Recently came here with the kids and family to enjoy a meal, and it was a great experience! The pasta dishes were delicious, and we also tried the chicken and Bronzino, which were really good. The calamari was another hit. The drinks complemented the food perfectly, and the service was super friendly. It was a bit light due to how packed the place was, and if you're sitting inside, expect it to be louder than usual. Overall, the service and food make it worth coming back again! Regarding Yelp, I recently had my Elite status removed after 8 years because I'm a business owner. Despite not being related or affiliated with any food businesses--only a local real estate office in NY--Yelp managers believe a business owner shouldn't be an Elite reviewer. In my opinion, being a business owner shouldn't disqualify someone from providing honest and fair reviews of unrelated businesses. My reviews are meant to be helpful and honest, and I believe that shouldn't affect my Elite status. read more

We made a last-minute reservation on July 4th hoping to be near enough to watch the fireworks. The food and ambience were both great! Both pastas were amazing but I liked the rigatoni more (I may be biased though because I do love pink sauce)! The outdoor seating was intimate and quiet, I loved that the tables were spaced out so each table could have private conversations. Servers were attentive, and came at the right moments to check in. Kind of an aside, but after the meal, we were able to head down an alleyway to get a good view of the fireworks! Dining at Il Brigante was a great last-minute decision :) read more

As soon as we walked in, my partner and I were seated by a lively and friendly host, but problems arose as soon as we sat down. Service: The waitress helping us gave my partner and I attitude when we needed a little more time deciding what to order (this was the very first time she asked if we were ready to order) and to have a bottle of sparkling water instead of tap. She visibly rolled her eyes. When she brought the bottle of Pellegrino and glasses out, she placed my glass right on the middle of the menu (the very menu I was looking at in order to decide what to order). I thought she wanted us to order quicker? We ultimately laughed both instances off, thinking it was an off day for her, but then noticed she was very polite and smiley to a couple that was leaving (she smiled and joked with them because they almost left their leftovers behind). I'm guessing it wasn't an off day after all. She was just off for us. All the other gentlemen that we interacted with were pleasant and friendly, so it's not a restaurant thing; it's definitely a person thing. Ambiance: Their outdoor setting is quite cozy and romantic looking. We didn't get to enjoy it, though, because we walked in too late. But the inside is equally as cozy and romantic. The brick stone walls and dim lighting adds to the coziness of it all. Food: The carbonara wasn't bad, but flavor wise, it was lacking. Definitely not cheesy enough. But most importantly, it was lacking a 'wow' factor because the dish tasted dead. The chicken and sausage with roasted potatoes and green beans (blanking on the Italian name): the chicken was breaded and the sauce it was coated in made me think I was actually having Chinese food. The only things that reminded me that I was having an Italian dish were the sausages, potatoes, and location I was in. Overall, I cannot picture myself coming back nor can I imagine myself recommending this place to anyone I know. read more

Solid Italian restaurant for a cozy and casual Italian meal. My group was seated in the outdoors structure, which was heated and nicely decorated. We actually ended up preferring eating outdoors since the indoors area seemed more crowded with a tighter table space. Food-wise, we all unanimously enjoyed the Brigante pizza, which had a nice balance from the prosciutto and arugula topping. We'd skip the Funghi e Tartufo next time - it was more of a regular mushroom pizza that barely had any truffle flavor or aroma to it. We also tried the Fusilli Silani, and it was a simple but tasty baked pasta with sausage and cheese. Overall, a decent Italian meal but also pricey for what it was. It started getting pretty busy later in the evening, so make reservations if you want to come by during peak dinner hours. read more

IL Brigante is a cozy Italian restaurant on the South Street Seaport. We came here around 8:30 PM and were seated immediately. I really liked the decor - roses on the table and lamps that were dim, but illuminating enough to see our menu and food clearly. Service was friendly and attentive. We got the insalate di pomodori (fresh tomato's with olive oil and seasonings on top of arugula) and the gnocchi. Fresh bread is complimentary, definitely get it! We got focaccia, which was steaming hot when it came out. It was a little thin, but super tasty with bits of fresh sprigs of rosemary. I really loved the salad (insalate), the tomatoes were fresh and juicy and I thought it was dressed just right - not too soggy or salty. Definitely order this to add some freshness to your order! I thought the gnocchi was solid (7/10) - just a little thick for my liking but the sauce was good. I would've liked a little kick of heat or more seasoning on the dish overall. But, in general, we had a good experience here! read more

Solid Italian spot in the cutest of neighborhoods. Stopped by for lunch on a Monday and there was plenty of available seating. There is no lunch specific menu - we ordered burrata as a starter and two pasta dishes to share. The bolognese was hearty and the fettuccine was delicious. The raviolis had a buttery sage sauce which was a nice lighter contrast to the heavier bolognese. The bread was fresh and tasty and came with some olive oil-balsamic mix. Overall the meal was very pleasant but I wouldn't say that anything really stood out. Solid spot to get some go to Italian dishes. Service was also attentive and on point. read more

We went last night and decided to eat dessert and enjoy two hot molten lava cakes, we waited for at least 20 minutes until we asked the waiter when the food would be done, apparently, "It's in the oven." After another 5 minutes the cakes finally came out. A nice portion of ice cream, but the cake did not look good. It looked look they had just bought and heated it up. A molten lava cake is gooey in the middle, this tasted so rich that it was not enjoyable! Hard as a rock and tasted super dry. Do not order this if you are actually aware of what a lava cake should taste like. The ice cream tasted good though. I can't speak for the food, as we only ordered dessert. read more
