We stopped by for happy hour and we were impressed. The burger was a standout -- a soft sesame seed bun, perfectly melted American cheese, and high-quality beef cooked medium, just right. The outside layer on the shrimp was a bit too crispy/cooked but it was still extremely tasty. My cocktail, the Vive La Vie Arette was really sweet but still had a good kick to it too! Took my son and his 2 young kids there for dinner Oct 2 weekend and it was a joke. Arrived at 5:30 so very small crowd. Ordered food and 45 minutes went by and no food. Started with the Smyth Tartare (Salmon) and the Warm Baguette - both were good, especially the Baguette (warm, soft and crusty) For our mains, had the Skirt Steak, Steak Frites and the Campanelle Alla Vodka - the steaks were nicely prepared, the Campanelle was a little spicy which we weren't expecting. Starter: Deviled Egg & Tavern Salad (the deviled egg was delicious & the tavern salad could have more dressing) Main Course: Crispy Chicken Sandwich & Pan Sauteed Black Bass. I visited Smyth Tavern for restaurant week. The venue itself is really nice but the food truly disappoints. The tavern salad was standard and the hamburger was mediocre. The hamburger tasted like McDonald's. The only redeemable factor were the onion rings. The fries were not even crispy. My friend got the black bass and my other friend got the campanelle alla vodka and neither person liked their dish. The pasta lacked seasoning and the black bass was okay, very small portions compared to the other dishes. The chocolate cake was decent but definitely not made fresh. Came here for lunch since it's close to my workplace. I wish I had time to enjoy a drink or two, but I had to head right back to work. The lunch menu was actually quite reasonable and the food tasted great. I went with the omelette something about having an omelette for lunch just felt right that day. There aren't too many diners around this area, so this spot is a solid find with a comfortable atmosphere and good service. Came into Smyth Tavern recently to grab some breakfast. I only sat in the front, but the decor was like a diner but had touches that made it feel a an old-school bar, but it also felt homey. It wasn't packed and I was able to be seated right away. Yolanda was my server and was an absolute gem. She was able to accommodate me by grabbing the breakfast menu. I ordered an orange juice and a Belgian waffle with no Nutella (wasn't in the mood for sweets). The orange juice tasted fresh, though the portion felt slightly small considering the $7 price tag. The waffle itself was enjoyable, especially with the addition of fresh berries. However, there was a slight delay in receiving the warm syrup I requested, and by the time it arrived, the waffle had cooled down. In all, I can recommend Smyth Tavern for a breakfast date, or solo date. If you do go, ask for Yolanda! She is very attentive and accommodating! The postcards with the bill were a nice touch! The service was really good, she was super attentive and was sure to bring out my next course when I was ready. She also gave me the most delicious chocolate chip cookie while I was leaving. Okay, to the food. My salad was delicious, I needed greens after the week I had. I decided to erase all healthiness with this burger though. I wanted to be an adult for once & asked for medium well, however, the burger was more pink than I could handle. I know if I wasn't a punk I would have enjoyed it more because it was good. It has a lovely ambiance and is tastefully decorated with artwork curated from local Downtown galleries. Moreover, the restaurant is dimly lit, warm, and cozy. I really enjoy the interior. For dinner, I chose the Roasted Chicken - fingerling potatoes, mushrooms, and chicken jus. Sadly, I did not enjoy this dish. Maybe next time I'll try their signature burger. I heard it was very good. Wanted to try this new restaurant out and it's a bit of a mixed bag. Overall, a good spot to come maybe for a work dinner or people from out of town. Pros: large portions, good service, not crowded yet so still easy to get a table Cons: they are really lacking in salt in many dishes - we saw other tables literally asking for salt to add on. Personally I feel most restaurants over salt their food so I didn't mind as much but still wasn't ideal. Also, while the food is good, it's definitely overpriced for what you get. Very nice tavern vibe situated in an above average boutique hotel. The bartenders were friendly and made some decent drinks. The restaurant itself had a good menu with a nice amount of variety. The NY strip steak frites was surprisingly big (but well cooked) and the fries were actually pretty darn good. Went here with my husband after a long day for a quick bite. Place looked enticing, so we thought we'd give it a shot. What could go wrong? Well that was when we were mistaken, as everything that could've went wrong, well, went wrong. Upon walking in, we stood by the hostess stand for a solid 5 minutes as the staff sat around the bar chatting. Once I mustered up the courage to go up to the staff, they seemed annoyed as if I interrupted their conversation. Felt like high school all over again, and for preface, I hated high school. Once we sat down we wait another 5 painful minutes before we even had someone look at us. We considered walking out, and hell, we should've. We settled on the tempura shrimp, filet mignon, and a side of mac and cheese. Simple dishes, hard to mess up, right?? Once we got our drinks after about 7 minutes, we then got our food shortly after. The Mac and cheese tasted like it was out of an MRE, the tempura shrimp coated in a lackadaisical sauce was chewy and still had the tails on- it was practically still swimming- and the steak, well, don't even get me started. The steak was supposed to be medium well, and to my surprise it practically had a heartbeat. We sent it back, after waving down the inattentive staff of course, and when we got another one sent over it was somehow even rarer. I could practically hear it moo. At this point my husband and I were done with this place. After a long 15 minutes waiting for the check, we got sent over a courtesy tuna crispy rice that looked like it was birdfed onto a sad chunk of rice. Couldn't bear the smell of it, let alone let it stare at us in the corner of our eyes. It made me borderline depressed. In sum, the food looked like it came from a Marie Calendars box, the steak was redder than the first day of an unexpected period, and the service was about as useful as a white colored crayon. The drinks are simple and made well. You'll find your typical Negroni and martinis on the menu Foods: Salmon Tiradito - with serrano chili, miso yuzu, vinaigrette and sesame oil - I enjoyed this dish and it good balance of sweetness with the acidity of the yuzu. the serrano chili gave it a new kick Jumbo Shrimp cocktail - the waiter recommended this - it was good but something out of the ordinary Smyth burger (bacon onion jam, American cheese, special sauce, onion rings, fries) - I really liked the burger with the bacon onion jam - it leans towards the sweet side though which I like. The onion rings were delish but the fries were lacklucker - cold and a bit soggy Mafaldine - uni butter, lobster knuckle and claw, chili flake - I literally came for this dish. anything with uni in it is a must for me! the handmade pasta was perfectly cooked. the sauce was a tad to acidic, however with the uni butter, it grew on me. the chilis gave it a kick as well Blueberry Panna Cotta - was a great way to end the night. it came with some type of crumble which made this dessert a 5/5 Smyth Tavern serves up some good American food with a twist. I ordered duck and the quality of food was good, but it had too many slices of duck with a tiny portion of veggie.
