Italia pass included offered a dining experience for travelers so we decided to see what it was all about and not were we glad we did. Greeted by kind staff upon arrival who directed us upstairs to our dining experience where we met our fantastic host Ilaria and other guests from different parts of the US. We sat family style and started with house red wine and the conversations just flowed. There were so many antipasta dishes to choose from like bruschetta, focaccia, artichokes, eggplant parm and my fav the charcuterie. I thought that was going to be it but then the main attractions arrived. Cacio e Pepe, amatriciana and the best carbonara I've ever had. Tiramisu was the dessert of the day which we washed down with digestifs amaro and limoncello. Finished off with espresso to put a little pep in my step to get back to the hotel. We did go there rather late in the night so it did feel like the staff was in a rush to get out of there. Overall, the food was decent. Nice first time experience at this establishment. Kevin our server was friendly and fun. Our dinners were very good. My only issue was with the Fettuccine with shrimp dinner which was rather light on the shrimp. Only 2 medium sized shrimp? It was still delicious though. It was nice that they serve you a small glass of champagne before dinner and a shot of Limoncello after dinner! The Tiramisu was fantastic. I did tell Kevin our server if they could dim the bright lights a bit to give a bit of ambience to our last dinner and night in Rome but unfortunately he couldn't. We had 1 acqua frizzante 1 aperol spritz 1 40cl beer bruchetta with artichoke spread scallopini in wine sauce seafood risotto chicory bread (4 slices) All 4 food items were good. So it's unfortunate that I feel cheated. When it came time to pay, the cashier showed me the itemized list for a few seconds, and then pulled it. That made me a bit suspicious, but in the two weeks we have been in Italy, I have had no cause to doubt the bill. He also said the tip is not included. After I paid, I only got a receipt for the total amount, not an itemized list. The bill was E75.50 Here's my figuring : Cuperto 6 Acqua Frizzante ? Beer 6.50 Aperol Spritz 8 Scallapini 14 Seafood Rissoto 17 Chicory 8 Bread ? This adds up to 59.50 without the acqua and bread. Usually a basket of bread is free and acqua frizzante is E2 to E3. I just can't see how those can total to E16. Let me add that I did leave a E5 tip on the table, but I don't like bring "reminded" about it. Bottom line is that the food is good but the sketchy bill left a bad taste in my mouth. We won't be going back. read more

I haven't ever written a review let alone a bad one. But we had such an exceptionally horrible experience at this restaurant tonight that I have to come on here and warn other women who are thinking about eating here. One of the hosts (not even the one that sat us) came to our table unprompted at the beginning and asked us a few unrelated questions. Nothing was super weird yet but he was overly friendly and looming over my friend. He then proceeded to come back three more times. One of those times he pointed out my friends healing SH and told her she had a beautiful body. He made her pinky swear to him that she would never hurt it again. In the same breath he used that to start hitting on her. He proceeded to squeeze her arm three separate times and tell her that he would fly her out to Hawaii or the amalfi coast. It was completely inappropriate and disgusting. The last time he came over we had ordered drinks and he started berating us asking if we were actually over 18 (we are three 22 year old women). By the way this was after he was hitting on my friend. Then he was like okay prove it to me let me put your number in my phone. He told her it was an Italian joke (I doubt this is true) but she obviously said no. After this he did not come back up to us but rather walked back and forth standing with his back towards us about a foot away from our table. All that and the food wasn't even good and it was overpriced. They also tried to serve us drinks in the end that we did not order and got offended when we did not want them. BEWARE-- there MAY be a crime ring operating out of this restaurant. I was on pilgrimage in Rome and had lunch here with a small group. Wait staff pushed an umbrella up against behind me to where I had no room to put a fanny pack or my backpack in front of me. I had to set it to my right on the ground. They had a charging station inside for phones on top of a cabinet. They created a distraction with the bill by overcharging. We noticed my backpack was gone. I had AirTags so I could track it. I ran after the thieves. My wife remained and let the manager know I was going after the thieves since I could track the backpack. He got nervous and appeared to make a phone call. In the meantime I walked into another restaurant about 3/4 a mile away where my backpack was showing on the tracker. I activated the "play sound" feature and I heard it. The one young guy picked up his phone playing dumb like it was his phone ringing. I was flustered and ran down a cab to go to police. They circled the block and dropped me off at the Carabinieri (local Italian police). Lo and behold it was across the plaza restaurant from where my bag was tracked. I went in asking for the police to help me get my bag back. They showed me my bag and asked me if it was mine. Yes it was mine. They disappeared for an hour. I tracked my bag as moving away from the police station. After an hour of sitting in the police station I had a local Italian translate for me to the officer on duty that I knew my bag wasn't there showing them my screen with the blue dot about 2 miles away. They got nervous. In 10 minutes they brought me back, had no questions or explanations and had me sign for my bag. Which was missing my new air pods and other items but still had my new IPad. The next day I started to have identity theft and logins from Russia, USA and Europe. I had also (ignorantly) plugged my phone into a charger they had inside their restaurant). Piecing our experiences together the group felt like this was a very coordinated heist with the restaurant the thieves and the local police. I may be wrong but I don't think I am. Two and a half weeks ago (Early November 2025) my wife and I asked to see the Il Barroccio menu but the man out front was overly complimentary to my wife about her smile making her feel uncomfortable and with his aggressiveness to seat us. Now to why I am writing this review. My wife looked around a little more and chose to dine at Pietro al Pantheon directly across from Il Barroccio. While eating our dinner at our table we noticed the man employed at Il Barroccio was often approaching our young female server outside who was frequently taking dinner plates from the kitchen, serving them at various tables then standing out front between her serving duties to welcome entering customers. She stood quietly out front and greeted customers to seat them as they entered. As my wife and I ate our dinners out front, the man from Il Barroccio approached the young lady again and rudely commented to her as by his manner of speech. With the help of Google Translate he was accusing her of using her good looks and smiles to lure customers and thats why Pietro al Pantheon had more customers than Il Barroccio. She was polite and proffessional offering quiet polite greetings now and then to passersby out front. She used professionalism, not good looks nor charm. Customers freely entered if they wished because she made them feel welcome without the need for aggresiveness. For more than 10 minutes he continued several times to walk away from his post at Il Barroccio, berate her and return to Il Barroccio. The only thing the poor girl could do was tell him to be quiet and go away but he chose to frequently return and proceed with his inappropiate and unproffessioanl comments because he could see his intimidation was working. It was disgusting to see a grown man and representative of Il Barroccio attempting to maintain dominance over a girl several years younger than him through intimidation and false accusations, a young lady who was only trying to do her job. (I let her know I was proud of how she stayed calm and proffessional, she thanked me but she was visibly upset yet maintained a positive attitude) If he were a real man he should have been have taken his concern to her manager but because of his immaturity he chose to be berate her in public before all the customers and people on the street to witness, knowing most of the tourists did not speak Italian but he obviously never considered that a strangers Google Translate app was working as designed. read more

Great little pizza and pasta place between Trevi and the Pantheon. Cute, well shaded alley with a constant flow of people watching. The focaccia with fresh tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella was probably the biggest hit, but all the pizzas were good. It's all about the crust, and this was a nice blend of slightly chewy and crispy. Wine list was not huge, but enough good options. We had the house Montepulciano, which was very drinkable. Servers were entertaining, and attentive. Particularly to the cute students sitting next to us. We sat outside, but the inside must be huge. We watched at least 50 people go inside. We were in Rome for our last night with friends and they remembered this place from a previous trip. 3 of us had the Florentine steak and the other had the eggplant. The steak was tender & delicious! Very large cut of beef that they cut up for you beforehand, but include the T Bone. It looked very rare, but our waiter Donnie said not to worry as he brought a very hot metal cooking to plate to the table and we had the option to cook any pieces we thought might be underdone. Water (looked like it was filled from a tap in the kitchen) / €2 per 1.5 liter. Service / €1.50 per person. Caprese Salad / €7.50 -- very good. Prosciutto e Melone / €8 -- very good. Gnocchetti al Barroccio / €13 -- didn't like, "way too hot, seasoning wise, gnocchetti was starchy, gooey mess. Abbacchio Scottad (Roast Lamb) / €13 -- I found it delicious. Carciofi Romana (Roast Artichokes) / €8 -- tough fibrous outer leaves left on, hard to eat / separate out. Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe / €8.50 -- needed seasoning. The Fiorentina (a 27-ounce T-Bone Steak) / €31.50 (served way too rare. How rare? Give it a shot and send it back to pasture. Funghi e Salsicce (Pizza) / €8.50 -- just OK, drowning in olive oil.
