4 stars: Great service and atmosphere, with an uneven kitchen…read more Service was a 5 and food a 3, so I'm landing on 4. The front of house was warm and welcoming, and our server was one of the best we've had all year. I wish I'd gotten his name, because he's a true pro and they're lucky to have him. The mussels were excellent, and the old fashioned cocktail was very well made. The accompanying bread was a letdown, though. It didn't taste homemade as mentioned, or at least it wasn't their best work. The entrées were where things went further south. The crab mafaldi looked and tasted like it had five times the capers it should have, and their brine seemed to have made its way into the whole dish. We couldn't get past the first bite. The snapper was a nice piece of fresh fish with a good sear, but it was overcooked and dry inside, and it had no salt. Our server and the kitchen kindly obliged when we asked to swap the pasta for the Wagyu burger, and they made another thoughtful gesture for the inconvenience. The burger was delicious and well executed. The special hand-cut fries they treated us to, unfortunately, had no salt at all. I'd planned to try the corn cheesecake, but after the entrées I wasn't in the mood for dessert. Still, the atmosphere is lovely and the potential is obvious, so we'll definitely be back.

Met a girlfriend here for a belated birthday dinner. Even though the restaurant opened about a year…read moreago, it was both of our first times here. We came on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was very empty. Maybe it was the end of summer, the rainy weather, or simply a slower night, but there wasn't much of a crowd. It's also about five minutes away from all the restaurants on Newark Ave, so perhaps it doesn't get quite as much foot traffic. The restaurant itself is very pretty - neutral colors, high ceilings, and dim lighting make for a really charming atmosphere. Our server was friendly, thorough, and very chatty when walking us through the menu. I believe he was the only server for the entire restaurant, though, so it took quite a while for our drinks to arrive from the bar. Once we ordered our food, however, everything came out very quickly, almost so quickly that I wondered if some of the dishes had already been prepared and were simply waiting to be served. We decided to share four dishes. First was the ahi tuna aguachile. Our waiter described it as being similar to a tuna crudo, but it came out in small chunks, and I didn't really see or taste the mango. This was our least favorite dish of the night. The street corn croquettes were our second least favorite. They arrived lukewarm and didn't really deliver much in the way of street corn flavor. I think they could benefit from a drizzle of Mexican crema and a sprinkle of chili powder or Tajín to bring those flavors out more. Our favorite savory dish was the honey-miso ricotta toast. The flavors were really nice, although I wish the focaccia pieces were larger or that there were at least four instead of three. We also shared the gnocchetti sardi pasta which was just okay. It wasn't particularly flavorful and felt pretty average overall. At $27, I'd much rather have a homemade pasta at Corto. Our second favorite dish of the night was actually dessert. There were only three options, and we were initially on the fence about ordering anything, but I'm glad we went with the toasted marshmallow crème brûlée. It was delicious. Our server also generously comped the dessert after learning we were celebrating my birthday, which was a really nice and unexpected gesture. From the restaurant's website, it looks like the menu changes regularly, and I think there is a lot of potential here. The space is charming, the service was friendly, and there are some good ideas on the menu. Unfortunately, nothing we ate really wowed us, and there weren't any other dishes our waiter described that left us wishing we had ordered them. Overall, I'd give this place another try, especially if the menu continues to evolve. Hopefully we just caught them on a particularly slow night and the restaurant is doing better than the nearly empty dining room suggested. For now, though, this feels like a solid 3-star experience: great ambiance, friendly service, but food that was mostly just average.

This was my parents' first time trying French cuisine. We shared the strip steak, lamb chops, seafood paella, and mussels. Our favorite was the seafood paella. It was done really well, and we had a generous serving of seafood in this dish. All this being said, what none of us liked was the service. The only times we ever saw our server were when she brought us water at the start of our meal and took our order. Outside of that, we were NOT attended to during our meal. No check-ins on how we liked the food, if we needed more water, or if we were ready for the check. I ended up having to stand up from our table and grab another waiter's attention for basic service. Even then, we were still being forgotten. I would come back here for the food, but the service would make me hesitate. Perhaps the service is better during lunch hours, when the restaurant is less busy?

The food and the vibe had me in a spell. The place is located in a quiet residential street, off the busier Jersey Avenue. The entrance is inconspicuous, with only the neon sign letting you know you might be in the right place. It looks like the back entrance of a kitchen, but as you climb down the metal stairs, you enter in a world that can be described as chill, elegant, and unpretentious. Forget the trashiness of Downtown, with 40 year old alpha wanna bes flashing their cash on overhyped basic food and watered down cocktails. Madame is for serious people, far from basic. There isn't one item in the menu that sucked. I cannot drink, but that didnt stop me from enjoying myself, because the food was outstanding. The first dish were thr oysters: Pacific and Maine oysters. Both incredible with their subtleties. Then came the bone marrow with the braised beef and baguette. The marrow spread like butter on the perfectly seasoned baguette. The braised beef had a mild sweetness to it due to the onions, and it complemented the savory baguette. Then came the patè, and rhe roasted Brussels sprouts with apple and parmesan. The Brussels were so great, that it could get every child in the world to finally eat vegetables. To top it all off I had the creme brulè cheesecake with a warm cup of americano. I was done. I was at peace. By then, it was closing time, and...I didnt wanna leave...I would have gladly stayed and clean the kitchen. I ate at the bar, the place was not crowded at all and lounge music was playing in the background. It is walking distance from the Grove path, so if you are commuting back from work and are looking for a quiet and relaxed place with Michelin level food, stop by Madame. You will feel rejuvenated. This place is basically a Turkish restaurant and not necessarily Mediterranean at all. If a…read moregeographical region needs to be associated with it then it should be a called mix of Aegean / Anatolian, as I am originally from that part of the World. Unfortunately, there is something very common in these type of Turkish restaurants and I am surprised not many people mention this. Most of the time the dishes, particularly the mezes are way too salty. The amount of salt they use is too much that it overwhelms the expected flavor of the dish and personally makes my tongue feel swollen. I am not sure if they do this partially on purpose to extend the shelf time as almost all cold mezes are prepared beforehand and not to order. They might be trying to keep the dishes from spoiling for 3 days or so. In any case and whatever the reason is it ruins the flavors for me. I'll try this place one more time then re-review with an update in the coming weeks.
