This place is basically a Turkish restaurant and not necessarily Mediterranean at all. If a geographical region needs to be associated with it then it should be a called mix of Aegean / Anatolian, as I am originally from that part of the World. Unfortunately, there is something very common in these type of Turkish restaurants and I am surprised not many people mention this. Most of the time the dishes, particularly the mezes are way too salty. The amount of salt they use is too much that it overwhelms the expected flavor of the dish and personally makes my tongue feel swollen. I am not sure if they do this partially on purpose to extend the shelf time as almost all cold mezes are prepared beforehand and not to order. They might be trying to keep the dishes from spoiling for 3 days or so. In any case and whatever the reason is it ruins the flavors for me. I'll try this place one more time then re-review with an update in the coming weeks. read more

Ordered Efes Mediterranean on Uber Eats and it was amazing. Delivery was quick and everything was packaged well. The food was super fresh and full of flavor -- the pita was warm and the sauces were delicious. Reasonably priced and affordable .I got the chicken over salad with two pitas and a side of feta, and honestly it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Easy 10/10, highly recommend! Next time I will be dining in , instead of ordering so I can get the full experience read more

What a gem! This place is excellent. I absolutely love the stylish interior, it's perfect for a party. Went here on a Monday afternoon with my boyfriend and we were absolutely delighted by the service and cuisine. They welcomed us with a basket of pita and bread with two dipping sauces. We got the cheese rolls to split which were amazing. "Better than mozzarella sticks" - my boyfriend. They were delicious so I highly recommend. I got the falafel and hummus as my meal and he got the falafel wrap. The waiter offered additional pitas for the hummus. I also got Turkish coffee which was delightful. It was strong and flavorful and came with a Turkish delight which was a nice touch. It was served on a beautiful plate. At the end of our meal, the waiter offered complimentary Turkish tea, which I had and really enjoyed. I just wish that they had cubed sugar for the tea instead of packets. The price was very reasonable and service exceptional. I really enjoyed the food and the overall experience. It was not busy at all while we were there so please check them out. read more

This is a late review, but worth sharing! The restaurant has quaint interiors, good service, and tasty food. We visited for a weekend lunch in the summer, and while the food took quite a while to arrive after ordering, the overall experience was enjoyable. I had the vegetarian plate, while my husband tried the garlic chicken. The flavors were good, though I would have preferred a bit more sauce in my platter. Overall, a decent spot and worth a try if you're in the area! read more

I've been coming to Efes a couple times now and it's always consistent! I love the open space and homey decor. The service is always quick, nice, and attentive. We're always seated immediately but maybe because I go on random week days. I love their chicken adana and my gf likes their lamb. The waiter was nice enough to tell us they have a platter with both! I will say their entrees are a good portion and we don't finish it all so sharing was perfect. It has lots of flavor! I'm picky with onion but I like theirs. We also tried their combination platter where you can choose 4 dips. We chose Hummus, Babaganush, Cacik, and Ezme. We both agreed the cacik was great and I always love babaganush. The ezme was spicy to me! I have a nut allergy and oddly they told me there's no nuts but online it says walnuts are in it so def ask if you have an allergy and want to try. Their pita bread is soft and like the usual. The fries were also a highlight! I love crinkle cut. Great staff and great food! read more

The food was delicious. We ordered chicken kabob and chicken thigh dinner. The chutney was flavorful, the yogurt dressing creamy, and the pita was still warm. My companion enjoyed the fries. But the delivery guy called me three times on my way to the lobby. He was pacing like I had left him waiting an hour. It took me 10 minutes to get dressed, through a hotel and down the elevator. read more

If you're in the Downtown Jersey City area, Efes is a must for you to try! I actually stumbled in exploring the area and don't regret it one bit. The vibe is casual date night, and it's perfect local neighborhood spot to support. For starters, we got the hummus. You could tell this was home made and so fresh. It came with warm, fresh bread, but we got a side of pita too. I recommend doing the same as the hummus serving was plentiful! For the main dish, we got the half chicken and half lamb. I think this is a wonderful dish if you want to sample both kinds of meat. However, my fiance did the adana lamb kebob and trying a piece, I will say I prefered the spices on that a lot more! For desert, I got the baklava. This baklava is hands down one of the BEST ones I've ever had. If you come here, do not skip on this desert. Throughout the night, the servers were attentive and kind. Make sure you show this business some love! read more

First time and I only came here for the kazandibi and it did not disappoint. This is the best dessert in the world. Definitely get the kazandibi. It's $9 well spent! We went on a Saturday for lunch and ordered combination cold appetizer (4 options), yogurt beyti kebab and doner plate. While we were waiting for food, they brought generous portions of Turkish bread and pita with two dips- all very fresh. When the main food came, everything tasted good, especially the cold appetizer combos. Also had Turkish coffee and tea (nice of them to keep it on the house). I wanted to try desserts but was too full - would definitely come back to try other things on the menu and desserts. Overall a very good experience. read more

I've walked pass here so many times, so glad I finally tried them out. I got take-out, and service was great. I must say the best grape leaves I've had, really!!! I also order their hummus w/falafel. I've been ordering in from Efe's more recently and one time when I went to order take out from the Downtown Jersey City location, Mecca was so nice and friendly and offered me Turkish tea while I waited for my food and invited me back to come and enjoy to dine in and they are also BYOB. So tonight after my workout I decided I wanted a little wine and a healthy meal. Armelindo was the best waiter and sweetest! He was friendly and attentive and we had a great conversation! He also gave me some of their incredible baklava. Dining alone while there were three other dates in the room can be tough but when you have hospitality like Efe's you feel at home! I can't wait to go back again. Oh yeah and the food is incredible Mediterranean and reminded me of my favorite neighborhood place I used to go to in LA. So glad I have a new neighborhood spot in JC! read more

Very friendly service! I ordered to go and while I was waiting, the waiter talked to me about all the great places to visit in Turkey, like Izmir and Sirince instead of the usual tourist traps. Cold appetizer combo was also good. read more

The best lamb I've ever had!!! Very kind staff and cute little ambiance for downtown.

After 3 check-ins, Efes has been the most decent Mediterranean grill that we have tried in Jersey City. Definitely the priciest takeout Mediterranean grill that we have tried in Jersey City. We always get the lamb kebab with rice and some salad garnishing. The lamb is tender and cooked well. We are able to warm it up and it will remain tender. The lamb could use more taste especially since the rice is bland also for people who do not like to pour that cucumber sauce all over. The baba ganoush is tasty and fresh. The hummus is pretty basic and could use some more flavoring. The few times I ordered the falafel it was fine just dry at times. Nothing compares to a New York east village falafel. The baklava is nice and sweet, sticky and yummy!! I will return until I find a solid place that is NOT a Jersey City food truck. read more

By far my favorite place to get take out from. The food travels well, and is consistent. I've ordered through grub hub, they deliver their own food and has always gotten to me faster than the estimated time on the app. My go to is the chicken kebab with rice and the little salad is always flavorful. I'm pretty "food" conscious and I never feel guilty filling up on this. The French fries are amazing. I don't know what texture it is but they're crunchy and soft in the middle. My favorite. Love this place! I would say it's a bit pricey for the size of portions but I'll take it where I can get it. read more

I have ordered from Efes a lot and in general, the desserts are great and the entrees are just ok and desperately need salt. They charge too much for the food to be just ok at best. Today I ordered the Pan Seared Tilapia, hummus, Turkish tea and Kunefe. My tea arrived less than half full. The tilapia is absolutely disgusting and is swimming in at least a half cup of oil. I tried some and it tasted terrible - no flavor at all except oil. I threw it away and it was $21. Kunefe was burnt and inedible. It smelled but didn't look that bad - but once I tasted it I actually had to spit it out because of the burnt taste. Hummus is ok. Overall, this was bad. Really bad. read more

Probably shouldn't dine here if you're a person of color . Couldn't figure out why the police arrived telling my partner and I that the staff didn't want us dining here at 9:20pm . The staff never confronted us on the issue. The male server was polite . We were just confused on why the manager never said anything besides "sorry" while the police escorted us out . It's not like anyone is dying to spend money on their establishment . They need the money, I don't need to spend my money at place with terrible treatment of customers and cowardice staff . read more

This Turkish-Mediterranean spot doesn't stand out on the street, but it offers amazing quality food at a reasonable price. Just a short walk from the Grove Street PATH station, it offers an understated, homey atmosphere for diners of all backgrounds. Service may be slow at times due to low staffing, but everyone is very warm and friendly. My group ordered variations of chicken and lamb kebabs and Adana, which is a ground meat variation. Everything is very tasty and filling, and many come with sides such as rice or fries. The lentil soup was a heartier tomato soup with extra fiber and protein. Would recommend for so many reasons! Plus, extra sides of pita are only 50 cents! Great flavors all around, and lots of options we will need to try on our next visit. Prices are great for those on a budget; you can definitely eat a filling meal for well under $20. I expect this place to get more and more popular as Jersey City grows its downtown. Would recommend for anyone in the area looking for a low-key meal. read more

Go here if you're okay with sub-par service (unless you're white cause the waiter went out of his way to make sure the couple next to us was good and they didn't give them a smaller table even though they were a party of two like us). . Place is clean and staff is nice but food is so below average. They have two tables outside. I paid 8 dollars for a chicken kebab sandwich. It was in a pita and mostly had ice berg lettuce in it. There were like 8ish small chunks of chicken. Not very flavorful. I can make a better Chicken sandwich. Nothing was Greek about it in its flavors or cooking style. I didn't try the white sauce that it came with on the side but my friend said it was ice cold and also not flavorful. She got the chicken gyro which looked much bigger than mine but she said it was not that flavorful either. read more

I've been going to the East Brunswick location since I was a teenager, so when they opened in jersey city I was soooo excited. This is a go to weekend comfort meal. Our go to items are the babaganoush, lamb stew, or chicken kebab platter. We've tried so many other delicious cold appetizers as well and always enjoy.
