I'm all about the Swedish meatballs and gravy..honestly, I don't know why I bother trying anything else, but I do..and always am disappointed. First, who knew it would be so crowded on a Friday before New Year's...but it was. Lines were 3 rows deep. But we amused ourselves and before you knew it, we were up. We were directed to go across to line two, which we did. We grabbed a tray caddy (love that!), 3 trays and started with dessert first. Not sure why it's set up that way, but we did and up getting a dessert. I think it was mousse, at least that is what I wanted. Not sure if that's what it was..but it was good, whatever it was. (kind of more like creamy Jello fluff-ish). Now again.. I KNOW I SHOULD JUST ORDER SWEDISH MEATBALLS.. But I was trying to be good and ordered the vegetable balls plate instead..yes nope! Mushy, bland, bleh. Didn't like the vegetables but the rice/quinoa mix was ok. Good thing I got a side of Swedish meatballs! Lol! I do love those! I had to wait for the mushroom soup. Asked the people twice and they said, yes we have more..and they just disappeared again. So I paid for it and sat down and came back. I asked again and finally someone put a new pot out. At least it was fresh. And yum! I got in a line to pay, stood there for a few minutes(thinking uh, meanwhile our food is getting cold) , then the cashier kinda barked at us rudely, that there's one line. Well when we got there there wasn't a line!, but there was now...and Thankfully the pale inn line recognized that indeed we had been there well before them and allowed us to go first. Fortunately we didn't end up going to that rude cashier (she was the register closest to the windows, see receipt posted for time) Our cashier was very friendly. I asked to pay for my soup, even though I didn't have it yet and she was very understanding. We grabbed our seats and ate. Overview: Soup, meatballs, chicken tenders and coffee were great. Fries and garlic toast were ok. Dessert mousse, eh. Service half terrible, half great. Line cooks weren't very attentive to empty soups, but other than that very nice and professional. My dining experience at this new and improved IKEA Cafe was decent. I wasn't overly hungry, having eaten one of my wife's large homemade Belgian Waffles just 3 hours earlier. But the Vegetable Balls Plate with lentils was superb. Also with a side of vegetables included; some of the best Brussel sprouts I've ever tasted, and yes, I'm one that actually loves Brussel sprouts. Carrots and collie flowers rounded out this light dish. Oh, and a side salad for which I would have liked a few other choices of dressing. My wife had the Spare Ribs Plate, with veggies and mashed potatoes. We shared a bit of each, and I thought the spare rib was a bit too dry, but passable. My wife enjoyed the mashed potatoes and her vegetables, as well as her side salad. Overall, a very decent meal and selections. Not great, but high quality cafeteria fair. And on entry, take notice of the two lines serving the same menu items. Everyone tends to keep to one side when there are actually two sides to order from. And the handy mini rolling carts, with slots to stack your multiple trays, are superb for transporting your meal to a table. Also, just FYI - if you become an IKEA family member, they give you a coupon for a meatball entree (either the meat or veggie, I'm assuming) and a dessert for your bday month. - I got the meatball entree, which comes w 8 meatballs, mashed potatoes, and a side of string beans, plus gravy and cranberry sauce. It's the perfect amount. Is it the best quality food you'll ever have? Not really. But is it worth it? Yes. It's a cheap and quick meal! No complaints. - I got a side of veggie meatballs which come w a curry sauce. This was just more for curiosity. It wasn't bad but I probably will only get the meatballs from now on. - blueberry mousse: I ate one bite and was like naw. Ahaha. I'm just not a fan of mousse, so that's just me. I also am not a fan of jelly bottoms. But it was free w the meal, so I'm glad I got to try it! I wish it had at least one crunchy element to it. Not sure about the short rib being $8.99 for a small piece. Oh yes and four pieces of Swedish meatball for $1.00!? That's pretty expensive for four. But the rest is pretty good. And worked off dinner, taking a tour of every inch of the place (which is supposed to be as large as a few football fields.) So you've never heard of IKEA's restaurants (how dare you) then you've clearly focused on that pillow or desk you needed and walked right passed it. In general they are the only reason I go to IKEA (I'm looking at you, friends who've forced me) but it's so worth it. They have a good variety of foods but my go to dish has to be the meat balls. I've had the good fortune to have frequented a couple locations and I think this ones the best one so far. I've been eatening at Ikea's restaurant and its bistro so many times over the years, at this location and the previous one, before they moved. Recently, I was disappointed to notice that some prices went up (sure maybe $1), but at this place it matters. It's supposed to be cheap food! Also, some entrees vanished (chicken cordon bleu, pulled pork sandwich etc), the replacements aren't as many and good (not interested to get the $8,99 braised beef). Soup used to bebetter, lately I got a tomato soup that was too spicy. Breakfast food is still OK. I was never pleased with the customer service, the place gets crazy in the weekend, it's kinda loud anyways, but it was a good save for a mid-week cheap dinner while shopping. A fun treat! Last time we stopped by, I was asked if I want specialty coffee or regular coffee. I was never asked that before! Well, they changed their policy, you can't get a free specialty coffee (capuccino, latte, etc) for free anymore as an Ikea member. Just regular coffee and tea. Downstairs, at the bistro, you can't get even free coffee with the Ikea card anymore or buy one frozen yogurt and get one for free. Nada! Cutbacks? It's always disappointing when a company changes its rules and retreats things they offered to you before. Especially when it's a big corporation and they made lots of money off you and so many other people over the years. Seriously? Ikea restaurant changed the menu and cut customer incentives. I guess the Swedish furniture giant gets too comfortable in some way. So no more chicken meatballs or beef meat. For those who don't eat pork the choice is pretty limited which sucks. Furthermore the Ikea family card incentive of free coffee does not include espresso drinks such as Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato (from free to $1.50 charge now!) anymore. I give IKEA furnitures a FAIL (it's no secret that it's cheap and poor quality for a reason) but they get a praise from me for having a vegan option at their cafe, and it's reasonably priced too considering the amount you get. It's Scandinavian - so it's portioned just right to satisfy you and not cripple you to a point of food coma - which is the American way of eating. Anyway, the aforementioned vegan plate consists of a grain (a blend), steamed greens and veggie balls with sauce. I didn't have high expectations, I went in thinking it's going to taste "just okay" but it was actually good! It wasn't oily or salty at all. For a plate that cost just under $5, it's a win! After filling our heads with ideas, walking the entire showroom floors, and purchasing probably more than what we actually came in for, we stopped by the IKEA cafeteria to now fill up our stomachs, excited to try their Vegetable balls and of course the traditional Swedish Meatballs dish. Unfortunately,before even getting a chance to come close to finishing up our meal, we were both bombarded with severe stomach pains and were forced to abandon our meals and rush to the nearest bathroom. I have never had an experience like this at any of the IKEA locations. You could start there before you shop and they have places to put your cart and/or your belongings. The line goes by quickly. The dessert is displayed first, so grab cake before you choose your entrees or snacks. Of course, get the Swedish meatballs, if you're into that, and have it a la carte, as a meal (e.g., with green beans, mashed potatoes, or grains), or add it to a side to another entree. My friend had that and I had the Braised Pork Shank. You could also get salmon, marinated or cooked. You might as well get a drink and go all out. I think I overdid it though...but hey, it's been a while and I don't know when I'll be up in Burbank again! read more

I love it here. They have both breakfast food and lunch time food. Their breakfast consists of eggs, sausage, potatoes, bacon, waffles, etc while their lunch has swedish meatballs, salmon, and pasta. When you get here, you'll notice that everything is super cheap. Sides are $2 or less. The salmon dish is $5 and drinks are $1-$2. Everything is great for the value. Went to IKEA for we needed some office furniture and since it was noon, we decided to eat here. They have a pretty big cafeteria where you line up and go through the line and choose what you want to eat. Since most people were ordering the Swedish meatballs, I went that route. You get a few meatballs with gravy, mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables (beans currently). I also picked the apple pastry. The meatballs are good but to me they seem to be processed. I came early and decided to check out their cafe on a Saturday morning in January. The cafe opens at 9:30am and noticed lots of people waiting to eat there. Before 10am, free cup of coffee with ikea rewards card and breakfast $1-2. There were long line of people trying the breakfast. The $1 breakfast is eggs, potatoes, bacon or sausage which is cheap. They have crepes, waffles, desserts too. After paying. The station to get water is long but fast. The coffee taste like regular coffee and it's free before 10am. This huge restaurant at the new IKEA is just that huge just like the huge IKEA! People look like they are coming here to just eat and hang out all day. It's like a mini amusement park here lol. There are a lot more vegetarian and vegan options now compared to the old Burbank cafe. Here is what we had and it was surprisingly tasty: - French fries - double fried crispy outside, soft inside - yum - cornbread - moist and sweet - good - mashed potatoes with gravy - tasty - vegan lentil sauce (it usually goes on the vegan meatballs) - the sauce is good. Super guilty pleasure, I mean reading the other reviews I think we're all in the same boat where we feel like we want to give it 5 stars, but there's something... I don't know what... but something makes us click 4 stars. The food here isn't "amazing" but for the price, it's a great filler for you and a great place to take a break during the hundreds of people march through IKEA. If you're a member you get the free coffee or tea which is nice. What I love is the furniture and decor, I mean what's the best advertisement than having people use what you're selling to see if they like it or not. I mean I questioned the chairs and the tables, but after eating here I don't anymore. Also the food is familiar and it actually tastes good, granted it's probably not from scratch, it's still good. The only gripe I have is that there could stand to be better signage of which line is open (they have two sides of the cafeteria line and sometimes both are open, but you all have to go through the cue....or do you? Without policing of it, impatient, or rude people skip the cue and walk straight to the other side... no signs, no staff, no consequences. I think Tom Seguera said it best "some people just suck"...
