Walking into Danish Modern LA's showroom was like walking into a museum, but it was even more fun since all of the items are for sale and could be appreciated from our home. They had the best selection of Danish modern dining tables, all beautifully and lovingly restored. We were grateful to see their workshop as well. The attention and care they put into restoring every piece of furniture they sell is apparent. Jessy's knowledge of the furniture and willingness to share his expertise without being pretentious was very much appreciated. We ended up buying a beautiful expanding draw-leaf teak dining table by Skovmand & Andersen. We did see other tables, but this one was designed and built with the highest quality. We also bought a gorgeous Paul Laszlo designed chest of drawers from Brown Saltman in mahogany with maple drawers. We appreciated the excellent customer service and attention to detail from Jessy and his team. We feel like we have invested in functional art that will give us joy for many years to come. I couldn't have been more thankful that we stumbled across this place while in the area. My boyfriend had inherited a couch that certainly needed some love other than being kept in my mom's garage for storage. We kept it there until we found Danish Modern LA. Jesse (co-owner) was such a pleasure to work with. He helped me pick the perfect fabric. He really understands the history behind designers and provided suggestions based off that. We ended up picking this fabulous tweed blue color (see photos!!!!). We loved their attentiveness, quality, and work so much that we have already sent a second piece to be refurbished. The furniture here is impeccably refurbished and this is more of a showroom atmosphere compared to other shops where it's dark and crammed with stacked furniture where you have to dig for that one treasure piece. I did not find the associate to be aloof as another reviewer mentioned, whenever I needed something Brandy the sales rep was very helpful and accommodating. And I was there a long time. Other than that she left me alone to look at all the pieces. The place is big and has a ton of furniture to see. I don't like it when a rep follows me around it makes me want to leave the store! So for me it was perfect. For vintage I would say this is higher end but completely fair and on par with pieces of the same quality. They also have great staging which helps if you need design ideas. I got a discount for buying multiple pieces and they allowed me to memo the furniture which took a lot of the stress off in case the pieces ended up being completely wrong for my house. If you memo the pieces you're responsible for delivery charges both ways and of course returning them in the same condition, but the delivery charge was very fair. I went to Danish modern on a whim a few months back as I was riding home from silverlake. They have quite a bit of space which allows the store to carry a lot of furniture. It's not really merchandised at all, things are just kind of out. So if you don't have a good imagination, you might want to bring a friend who has an eye for how things will look in your space. I was left alone the entire time I was shopping, which I actually like. I get annoyed by pushy furniture salespeople. Prices didn't seem entirely unreasonable. I didn't find anything that was mind-blowing or a "must have". But they had some OK stuff. Bottom Line: A-OK but not exceptional. I'd check it out again if I happened to be close by. read more

I just had a Mainline by Hooker roll top desk refurbished, vanity seat to a 1930's deco bedroom set restored and reupholstered. Danish Modern LA's showroom is such a breath of fresh air. Unlike many Mid-Century Modern stores in LA, Danish Modern's space is full of light and space. (No chaotic towers of furniture here!) Everything on the floor is beautiful and each piece has been carefully restored. It's a wonderland of treasures that is a pleasure to walk through! We were looking for a table with hidden leaves (either a butterfly leaf or draw leaf table) and Jessy helped us find the perfect table for our budget that met our needs. He was so easy to work with. Jessy loves what he does, and he is a fountain of Mid-Century knowledge. It's so refreshing to shop in a low-pressure environment, where questions are welcomed and where one leaves excited by new knowledge about incredible art. We ended up purchasing a teak draw-leaf table and a chest of drawers. Both are incredible pieces. I would strongly recommend that you find other vendors of Danish Modern furniture. While I don't doubt the quality of their selection, and I'm extremely pleased with the pieces that I managed to acquire, I have had an absolutely miserable experience with this store. I purchased a desk and coffee table from this store in early September. The prices were higher than other vendors, but the pieces were exactly what I wanted, so I didn't really mind. I'm a huge fan of mid-century modern pieces, and there's a understanding that you pay a little more for authenticity. Because I live in southern Georgia, I obviously had to deal with long-distance shipping. That's perfectly acceptable, but a few things rubbed me the wrong way. The salesman couldn't remember my name to save his life, even after multiple calls and emails. Considering that my email address is my first name and last name, I wonder how hard that could actually be. I couldn't get them to respond to emails regarding my delivery status or even to confirm whether or not the shipper had picked up the pieces. Phone calls were met with promises to call me back that were never honored. I paid an additional sum for what the salesman described as "white glove service." When I did receive my desk and coffee table, I come to find that they had used the cheapest shipping method, which left the coffee table legs exposed. They had, of course, been smashed by the shipper. So, the coffee table was returned for repair. When the desk was delivered, the shipper didn't bring a ramp, a dolly, a knife to cut the tie-downs, anything. Thankfully, my 60-year-old neighbor was at home and was able to help me, because the driver refused. It wasn't until November that I was able to get the coffee table. When it finally arrived, it was shipped in a box... because the legs were detachable. So, one of two things happened: either they replaced the piece I purchased with one that was not fixed joinery (and therefore lied to me), or they were too lazy to detach the legs in the first place. Either way, it proved something to me: they are terrible at what they do, and they're not worth my business (or yours, for that matter). The only reason why I haven't rated them at one star is because the salesman knocked off about $400 from the list price because I bought two pieces at one time. Also, I'm thrilled with the furniture. I just don't think it was worth almost four months of pain to receive them. If I'm going to spend $3500 on a desk, I certainly don't expect to be ignored or talked to like I'm an idiot. I would strongly recommend that if you live in Los Angeles, you find another vendor of Danish Modern furniture (there are many). This store used to be in a smaller space down the street. Back then, the prices were a lot more reasonable and the service way more friendly. I got a great deal on some chairs there once. If I were writing this review back then I would have given them 5 stars instead of 2! Now that they have the bigger space maybe they have higher overheads, but the prices are just too high. The furniture is in great condition though. If the service was better, I would still keep coming back hoping for a deal. But like Jeremy S. says in his review, they completely IGNORE you. The owner looks at his computer the whole time. This has happened to me three times! The last (and final) time I was with my mother and as we were leaving my mom said "thank you" and he didn't even respond. With the high prices and the lack of service, I'd rather go somewhere else. Danish Modern LA needs to recognize that they have competition...all the other vintage stores in the neighborhood, flea markets, and of course eBay. Don't get me wrong, my BF and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Danish Modern furniture. In fact, my whole house is furnished with Danish modern pieces. Did we get it from Danish Modern LA in Silverlake? NOPE! We went this past Saturday to check out what they had and were horrified by the prices. We got everything at the Rose Bowl flea market for SIGNIFICANTLY less. Retail mark-up, that's where they get cha! We saw 4 dining room chairs, beautiful wood, nice quality upholstery for $895 (for set of 4). Are you freaking kidding me?! No freaking way. The EXACT same chair--no joke--about a week earlier at the Rose Bowl Flea Market (2nd Sundays), $75/per chair. That's $300 for all 4 chairs, that is such a rip off! Mind you, they did have a nice selection, but instead of wasting your money on retail markups, I'd say go to the Flea Market, you'll definitely find a ton of Danish modern stuff there. read more

I went into this place several months ago with a friend. I would have reviewed it then, but what happened was so astounding that after recovering from it, I decided never to go there again & forgot about it. But I passed it the other day & was reminded. Then I saw an episode of Paranormal Witness the next day which was about a similar experience & now I just have to at least mention it. The fact that the employees were cold, inattentive & utterly disinterested in our presence (which is why they are getting one star) pales in comparison to what happened when my friend & I surveyed merchandise, wandering through the store. He was interested in Danish modern furniture. I, however, detest it. But my love of shopping compelled me to try & find SOME-thing I liked, at least. But I didn't & neither did he. And as we wove our way back toward one another, meandering through random pathways of sectioned furniture, we found ourselves facing a wall on the right at the back end of the store & we both stopped cold, staring at the same area. All I can tell you is that a profound sense of evil emanated from something in the direction we were looking in, in fact, looking back at us! The minute we both recognized it, it bristled...like a cat warning off an offender. A big, deadly, evil, reanimated corpse of a cat...that's what it felt like. It was the most bizarre experience either of us could have expected to find ourselves in. Furthermore, we validated it for each other!! We BOTH saw / felt / sensed it! We looked at each other, both our mouths agape in shock & horror & we high tailed it out of there. I know it's weird...& I don't care what anyone thinks. I mean, how do you explain a supernatural experience to someone who has never had one, let alone prove it? I don't even know which piece of furniture it was...we both looked at something hanging on the wall, but the frequency was so pervasive & threatening, radiating in waves of hatred & ill intention that it behooved us to get the hell out of Dodge! We will never forget it. I wanted to ask the people who were working if they knew about it, but I never went back. And anyway, would they admit it? They, in fact, were huddled behind a desk at the farthest diagonal left end of the store from where the thing was. Maybe they didn't know exactly. Now I can only wonder if anyone bought the mysterious, haunted thing in the back or if it's still there. I mean...wtf! And yikes! read more

The prices are very reasonable especially when compared to some of the other furniture stores in the area that carry vintage furniture. We bought two pieces recently, and since we're less than a mile away, the delivery was FREE. Excellent service and amazing experience. I find the 1* reviews really puzzling because the whole reason we have bought multiple items, on multiple occasions from Danish Modern, is their AWESOME customer service!!! Brandy Martinez, the corp sales manager, will 'memo' your item for just the cost of delivery and pick up, so you can see if it matches your space. We did this for the 2nd order which we bought sight unseen and then once it arrived, purchased it. Our first order, where we toured their warehouse in East LA, was awesome. A young guy (forgot his name) and his sister showed us around the space and was very patient as we selected a couple of things. He was well-versed in 20th C design and we really enjoyed talking to him and learning from his passion for great design. I was late for the first delivery and they were really cool about the inconvenience I caused them. Great moving guys (Armando? Jesse?) and white glove delivery service. I'd highly recommend these guys - just a seamless, easy transaction and they have beautiful stuff! read more

A pretty decent selection of refinished, period-appropriate, no-name-designer, mid-century furniture. You probably won't find any pristine Wegner or Juhl here, but they did have some pretty sweet Nelson Coconut chairs! There are better and cheaper places for mid-century furniture in L.A. But, Danish Modern L.A. is pretty good at what they do. They have a good, diverse selection and their layout is helpful for finding the right piece. It's actually laid out like a furniture store. I'd been looking for some Danish nightstands ($1000 for the pair) and I found them here. Were the prices higher than the Rosebowl? Yes. But, they were exactly what I'd been looking for. They also have a nice selection of accessories and lighting to help finish the mid-century look. They said some of their wooden toys were Kay Bojesen, but, I call shenanigans. I have been following Danish Modern LA on Instagram for a while. I found a hand-made chandelier in the style of Adrian Pearsall they were featuring. From the beginning I was pleased with how I was taken care of by Jessy at Danish Modern LA. Jessy's responses to my questions were prompt and detailed. Purchasing and shipping the chandelier couldn't have been a smoother process. It was packed so snugly that it could have survived a trip to the moon and back without a scratch! Had contacted Danish Modern via their website looking for a very obscure part for a Danish Office Credenza. Had a warm, positive response fro Brandy, literally within minutes. As it happens, I live in Canada and happened to be traveling to the a area where the store is. Jessy greatest me at the door as he knew I was coming. He had already done a search for the part with unsuccessful results. We looked around the warehouse/store which is stunning. Some of the highest quality refinished Scandinavian furniture I have ever seen. Had shipping been easier (I live in a remote location), several pieces may have been relocated. Without a doubt, I'll be back to see Jessy. As I was getting into my vehicle, Jessy and another fellow stopped is in the parking lot. If we could come back in 1/2 an hour, they were going to look in the actual workshop. Not only did they locate several of the exact part I needed, they had them packaged as a gift when I returned. I purchased a dresser here, but once I got it into my place it didn't work so I tried to return it. Turns out, they have a no-returns policy, which is not stated anywhere in the store or on your receipt. They refused to take it back, and so I asked to speak with the owner. He never called me back, and despite multiple calls, I kept getting the run around. I decided to file an American Express claim on it, and MONTHS later, the called me and casually asked when they could pick up the dresser (assuming because AMEX refused the charge...?), they wanted to pick it up as soon as possible, despite dragging their feet for months, and then messed up the pickup time, coming 3 hours later than agreed. I DO NOT think anyone should shop here, a complete hassle and no regard for the customer! read more

I guess it's MY job to greet YOU, since obviously whatever's on your computer screen is MUCH more interesting than the LIVE CUSTOMER WALKING AROUND YOUR STORE. As for the furniture - it's...whatever. They have a few decent pieces, mostly middle of the road stuff. Prices neither cheap nor outlandish. However, nothing was really particularly unique. There was nothing there that I hadn't seen 100 times before. And really. COME ON. If you're just going to completely, willfully ignore people the entire time they're in your store, WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING A STORE. Why not just have a warehouse and a website so you can legitimately stare at your computer screen all day long without the bother of having to deal with real live people. read more

The other reviewers who mentioned the cold feel of this warehouse-like space were right. In addition to needing a cardigan because it's actually cold in there, you are not going to hear a 'hello,' see a smile or get much feedback from staff here whether you are aimlessly browsing, trying to get their attention to buy an item, or actually in the midst of the buying process. Still, knowing that going in and having previewed the selection online, meaning my heart was already pretty much set on a particular item, I was willing to let it go. Yes, even when money was being put down on an item, there was a blank stare coming back at me. I could handle it because in exchange for those bills was the knowledge that the beautiful refinished walnut wood Broyhill Brasilia sideboard was coming home with me, and the people who work there have nothing to do with that. I might not have saved any money on this piece of furniture, but I also got an item that was made well, made of a quality wood, looks as good as new, and adds a whole lot more personality to my bedroom than the tornado vortex of clothing that this little storage piece will supplant. Based on the store's premise, selection is going to be hit and miss. Prices also vary-some things are way overpriced (okay, overpriced for my limited budget), while others are priced quite reasonably. You've got to poke around (not as if there is tons to miss in the relatively sparsely set up space). I'm not someone who has luck at vintage shops or flea markets. For me, the layers of dust, the need to sand down and refinish stain, the wrong hinges, are not charming qualities I see changing before my very own DIY-eyes. They are things that keep me from buying awesome items. So if you are the type who values your time and can't quite see the forest for the trees in Rose Bowl Flea Market type settings, this is a great place to consider when looking for some clean, not made in China out of particleboard, furniture. This is my go to place for Danish Modern furniture. I always have their website open on my browser to check for new arrivals. Their selection is extensive and quick turn-over so if you see something, don't sleep. It's also a good place to learn about the designers and designs. Jesse, the owner is knowledgeable about the pieces, makers and finishing process. If you want something refinished or reupholstered, they do an excellent job with a quick turn-around. I drove there from the LAX area after seeing the furniture online. No one bothered me as I took my time to look around the store which is fine with me since I hate folks hovering over you while you peruse the furnishings. And yes,Jessy seemed to be engrossed with his computer, but I engaged him in friendly conversation about the furniture and we hit it off just fine. He even referred me to three other stores that carry mid century. How's that for friendliness? As for prices, they seem to go with the fact that all pieces are refinished to perfection.You can, of course, obtain pieces less expensively from flea markets and EBay,etc if you can live with with dings, scratches and poor wood and veneer patches. The owner of Danish Modern L.A., Jessy Tzarax, is a great guy to do business with. He's extremely patient, has a great aesthetic sense, and knows exactly what his customers want. I came to him with several refinishing projects (a teak dining table, coffee table and two end tables), and the results were stellar: Jessy's crew restored them to a showroom-ready appearance. I also bought a lounge chair from him that he'd restored to mint condition. For a young guy, Jessy really knows his stuff, from all the technical aspects of restoration (sanding, staining, lanquering) to the provenance of the pieces he sells (Folke Ohlsson, Grete Jalk, etc.). I was at a loss when my two piece 1958 record console/bar arrived damaged in the move from Chicago. The legs didn't look like they could support the weight of the piece anymore and it was scratched and dented beyond recognition. This is my prized piece of furniture. I can't say that Danish Modern LA is inexpensive but they did return the item to me in perfect condition and really tried to expedite the process for me. I was very pleased with the end result.
