I went here on a busy Sunday evening by myself. It took 40 minutes to wait in the line, literally. The cafeteria was severely understaffed and the food was not even great. The tables were dirty and it didn't even seem like any one was there cleaning up. For the experience and the quality of food, I think it was over priced, despite what Ikea food is known for. The restaurants tend to be a bit expensive and highbrow. And then there is the restaurant in every IKEA, sort of a go-to place for everyone's love of Swedish meatballs. A trip to the furniture store is hardly complete without first visiting the restaurant. The restaurant is cafeteria style, if you haven't heard already. In Brooklyn, it's not that pleasant of an experience, to be honest. The employees are just passing through their day, no emotion, heaping things on your plate with no regard. Whatever. Don't be ashamed to pick the Swedish meatballs ($4.99 for 15, $5.99 for 20) because they are still the best thing on the menu. It comes served with a side of mashed potatoes, a bit of lingonberry sauce for dipping, and is covered in an excellent cream sauce. The quality control of the whole operation might be slacking though, as some balls are cold inside and other lukewarm. It's surprising that IKEA does not have a tighter leash on its operation. While it is certainly not great coffee by any standards, it should be noted that at 99 cents (which includes free refills), this could be a very economical coffee shop for freelancers. Welp.. I've always heard good things about the IKEA restaurant. They certainly have attractive daily sales/promotional deals to reel me in. Its hard to turn down a meal or snacks this cheap. Unfortunately the food here isn't much more than school cafeteria food, maybe the meatballs are their specialty? As a vegetarian, my options were limited and I was disappointed. Fries are decent, but nothing special. Since the prices at Mister Softee and other trucks seem to be constantly on the rise, I am a fan of the $1 soft serve at the food stand downstairs. read more

I always complain about the IKEA food, but almost always end up eating here whenever I visit. I've never had a problem with their food, in fact, I really enjoy their french fries. Today I had the buffalo chicken wrap, a side of mac n' cheese, french fries, and cornbread, and a sparkling apple cider. The french fries, cornbread, and sparking apple cider were what I enjoyed most out of my meal today. I feel their chicken could use a little work, maybe a more realistic or crunchier taste. I'm not sure I would make it a point to go visit IKEA just to hit up the restaurant, but after winding your way through the various showrooms, it's a bit of a nice haven to run into before heading downstairs to the smaller pieces and the warehouse. It's basically like a school cafeteria - grab a tray, stand in line, and point at what you want. Despite the simplicity and nostalgia that it may induce, the food is definitely more than passable, and given the cheapness (at least for NYC), you will find yourself filled up without feeling too terrible about the caloric intake. The Swedish meatballs are classic and are slathered generously with the delicious gravy, and the mashed potatoes were solid, if definitely more like the processed variety as opposed to the freshly-prepared. The chocolate cake was a nice surprise, though - although it was chilled, so a bit unnaturally cold, it wasn't too dense and tasted quite good. The restaurant hews pretty closely to the ethos of IKEA, and the result is a fairly cheap meal that is very no-frills, in terms of variety and seating amenities (McDonald's might have nicer seating these days), but it does the job. If you're not in the mood to venture out to nearby spots in Red Hook, you could certainly do worse. read more

First off the store itself deserves 4 stars for accessibility and customer service. Apart from the free shuttle and ferry service, there are also frequent MTA buses that stop right at IKEA's doorstep. So it's not too much of a hassle to reach the location as such. The staff is courteous, professional and friendly. Even though we went on a very busy and crowded Saturday afternoon, we could always get hold of some staff to help us in every section. But the big no no is the cafeteria. After shopping 3 hours for furniture we were quite famished and were excited for some lunch but the kitchen staff is terrible at managing crowds, We got food that was bland and which looked partially cooked after waiting in line for 30 minutes. The service is extremely slow and the billing even slower. I would definitely recommend bringing snacks if you're person who gets hungry while shopping. Another issue is the delivery service. Unfortunately they ship the products from a warehouse in New Jersey or something so even if this particular store has some products or furniture that you love, end of the day they can't ship it to you if it's unavailable in their warehouse. I've eaten here a few times and it's usually very low cost food, the value is simply unbeatable, but service varies totally (from surly and defensive to bright and cheery) and the food quality always makes one wonder a bit how they get the price so low. Probably what keeps customers coming back is the price and convenience of the location right inside ikea. Items are all under a couple of dollars. Cleanliness and customer service also gets a 1 Star. The employee serving the food named Tiana was cleaning the bar with a rag and did not bother to change her gloves when prepping my veggie do. As she was getting ready to serve it I asked her if she could place it on a plate because both my sister and I had our hands full and she (in a very harsh tone with the utmost attitude in her body language) said, "You gotta do it yourself!" I came to Ikea to get some furniture and being that it was my first time trying food from here, I had expectations. People rave about the Swedish balls and it's gotten attention in the news for being made from horse meat. Ok bring it on -- I was all ready to have some horse balls. The place was crowded the moment we stepped in which can only indicate hungry people and potentially good food. We step on line and have already decided on the main course. Once we place our orders we are pushed along the assembly line of people and half a minute we later decide we want another side. "Ok you place your orders with her ok? One scoop or two scoop!?" howled the lunch lady. Jeez lady, what crawled up your behind. Can't handle the heat in the kitchen?--then get out!! We were perfectly polite about requesting another side so this server was unnecessarily rude and angry. We get to the line to pay and the cashier howls "Debit and credit only! No cash!" while the cashier behind her wears a yellow,1 foot by 2 foot sign around her neck with the same message. When it comes to flow, these ladies mean business and you best not mess it up! Our cashier asks us for a family member card and a one second delay frustrates her. There was no word of a thank you or sense of customer appreciation after the transaction. Great. At least we are done with the process of obtaining some food which happened to be balls soaked in mashed potatoes (which I don't mind but I expected bigger balls) and salmon soaked in mash (which I do mind). Some glasses were grabbed for drinks and a mug for coffee. We hunt for an open table for three which we easily find and get up for drinks. Oh hold up!! There's a huge stain in the coffee mug. We had to grab another one. We sit and get ready to eat while I glance over the receipt. Oh hold up!!! Why was I charged for a bottled water which was not even on the tray???? Ugh I get up and grab myself the water I was owed. The food was mediocre but the whole experience had already left a bad taste in my mouth. Cheap food but sometimes they make you want to come back again. As for quality wise, well this is Ikea so don't expect gourmet meal. Their Swedish meatballs were decent although there are times when you have to wait for them especially if it is understaffed. I can't say much about other entrees since i rarely dine here but i do believe they used to have ribs and it tasted darn good. No more ribs tho for now? Oh well. And for those of you like me who live there life on a diet, this food is ok for you to eat according to most diet guidelines. Everyday they have a different special which runs you like two dollars and some change -- Amazing! I've had the Swedish meatballs in the past with the mash potatoes and cranberry sauce...yum they were so good, and I don't even like cranberries but together everything tastes delicious. Recently I splurged and treated myself to the stuffed salmon (a whopping six bux)! It came with mixed veggies, and mash potatoes. I also got an extra side of mac and cheese (I told I was splurging). Everything tastes fresh, its cheap, and its just enough. It may not stuff you but that's what downstairs is for. Just when you thought IKEA was great it gets better... Welcome to downstairs aka after dinner aka dessert YUM! After you've indulged in mini Swedish meatballs, or pasta, or salmon, and you have enough room, and your willing to splurge like me, you can get a cinnabunn or ice cream or both (here comes my splurge again) for ONE FRIGGEN DOLLAR EACH! Well, I was very excited to try out the IKEA cafeteria. When I shop at IKEA, it feels like I enter the store on one day, and leave 2 days later. It's nice to have a place to eat there, to refuel and make it through that intense "rat in a maze" shopping experience. The atmosphere was a bit frenzied, but it was a Saturday. The line moved quickly. The tables could have been cleaner, but it wasn't the hot mess that it easily could have been. Overall, it was pleasant to sit in the cute little IKEA dining chairs and look out the window at the statue of liberty. I had the meatball plate. I would describe it as high end hospital food. It's like "the best of the worst". I think the mashed potatoes were real, the lingonberry sauce was alright, and the meatballs were tasty, but overly processed. You get a lot for the new low price of $3.99. For me, it will be my last IKEA meal though... being highly allergic to MSG, my symptoms kicked in about 2 hours after my meal. :( read more

Served on a plate with mashed potatoes and a mouth-watering side of lingonberry sauce, these Swedish meatballs are absolutely delectable. They give you a ton of meatballs for $4 and you will never leave with an empty stomach or empty wallet.*** There is ample seating with nice views. The food system is as simple as can be. Get a tray, order, get your food, grab a glass, pay, fill your drink, put tray back where dirty trays are. Did I mention that the meatballs are so damn good. It is the perfect break from the couples arguing about sofas or side tables (note: the husband never wins, just watch). Try getting a Gorm secondary storage stacking system at The Meatball Shop, slackers. ___________________ * I wouldn't really forget about it because it is really good. I'm not one to travel to IKEA to grab a bite, but when at IKEA it's hard to travel somewhere else for a bite. Usually IKEAs are located in out of the way places and it's hard to get a bite without hopping in a car. Not to mention, when I get there I just want to get it done with and out. That doesn't leave shoppers much choices but the cate and cafeteria. The first server was yelling at people in line asking what they wanted. Specifically the server was yelling at 4 people away from him. The line wasn't moving or moving very slowly. There's no need to yell all the way down the line when that person can't even move forward to pick up their plate until the food has cooled off. Okay.. so I finally got around to visiting the IKEA store in Brooklyn for the first time..YAY! Anyway I didn't know what to expect, because I usually go to the one in Long Island. But I had swore off ever returning to that store, until I heard about the the opening of this one, AND since I was planning a trip to RedHook several years ago, & was in need of a new rug for my room, I figured this is the perfect opportunity! The escalator up to the store lands you right next to the restaurant/cafe? which is very convenient. I was immediately drawn to the area by the spectacular views of lower Manhattan & the statue of liberty. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of this cafe, it could probably seat 30-50 people or so & was even more shocked that they serve real food...like meatballs, french fries, salad buffet, dessert, cold sandwiches/wraps, soups etc. So we decided to have a bite before shopping. I was undecided of what to get, they have like a meal combo type menu, which I don't really understand. Anyway my friend opted for the chicken fingers, which came with a side of fries, and I finally decided on the apple pie which was topped with condensed milk (which i would have preferred warm...i wish you had a microwave IKEA! )& coffee.The coffee was really good..I must say.
