Updates on Ikeas (2 of 2) My memory works fairly well and I could have sworn I had given this Ikea (Restaurant) in Brooklyn - the only one in NYC's five boroughs - 3 stars. In looking at that review, it was obviously the bone-in chicken that torqued me. At the time of the first review, I got a slice of strawberry shortcake for $2.49. I do remember that part. I believe that a small slice of cheesecake is now about $5, but this is Ikea and not a regular restaurant. This review fetches the same 2 stars, but it's about something else. On a recent enough holiday weekend, they were unable to move the foot traffic in the store, employees were not that helpful, and there was a general feeling of slovenliness. The food was much the same. I had a fish platter assembled with potatoes and vegetables as well as a cranberry bar for dessert. My friend, a New York City resident and school friend, had a platter of Swedish meatballs. I'm not a complainer when there's a good price-quality-quantity relationship in the food you order when out and about, but the quality part seems to be dipping at Ikea, and especially at this location. There are some interesting thing about the Brooklyn-NYC store. First, it shatters media generated stereotypes about New York City in that there must be no parking because everyone lives like they do on "Seinfeld" and in "The Odd Couple." The entire underside of this propped up store is one big parking lot. That means people in Brooklyn and Queens, and even Long Island, can easily drive and park here. The stereotype that Brooklyn is overpriced and overrated, however, stands. The other is that there is limited ferry service from Manhattan that is free of charge. We took the ferry over to Ikea, which is scenic, but took MTA back ... the last ferry leaves rather early. The store and restaurant experience was not memorable, but taking the ferry across to Ikea and riding an MTA bus and subway back from Ikea's front door and sassing it up with a trio of Dominican ladies definitely was. My friend and I stopped by the IKEA restaurant before browsing for new couches. Never shop on an empty stomach. I'd never eaten at an IKEA before, but was pleasantly surprised with my experience. It's reminiscent of a school cafeteria where you take a tray, get on line, and let the staff know what you'd like at each station. There are tons of tables, so lack of seating was not a problem. I got two sides orders of the meatballs and a garden salad. The meatballs were delicious and I will likely be ordering them at all future IKEA visits. The food was also incredibly affordable. The restaurant in Ikea has some solid food, and I typically go for the following: Chicken Tenders, Fries, and Chocolate Cake. Sadly, they didn't have any tenders and fries ready, so I decided to try something new. It didn't disappoint. I will admit the wait in line for food was pretty long, but if you're not standing in line alone and have someone to converse with, the wait is worth it in my opinion. I love how there's plenty of families who eat here; it makes the restaurant feel inviting and warm. Garlic Lemon Cod: It's perfectly breaded and crispy. There's not a large portion, but the peas and mashed potatoes fill you up. The potatoes aren't very buttery and don't have any flavor outside of... potatoes. By far my worst iKea experience ever. Let me preface this review by saying I am not an iKea regular. There are times when I may visit a location 1-3 times in a year and then there are years when I don't step foot into any ikea. However like many I do have a few of their products in my home and think of them for specific items. Recently I decided to do some home refreshing and ordered some picture frames and ledges online. The frames didn't work for what I needed and I mistakingly ordered the wrong picture ledges. I usually go to iKea in Jersey (Paramus or Elizabeth) and last year checked out the long island location with a friend (also for frames). Nonetheless, the last Sunday in March I had an event not too far from the Brooklyn location. I thought that a stop to return the wrong items and an in-store pickup of the correct ones made sense. I was ABSOLUTELY WRONG! While my in-store pickup took all of 25mins. Despite an email 3 hours earlier that my order was ready for pick-up but could not be located, I got it. On the other hand, the return of 3 picture frames and 3 picture ledges, took almost 2 hours. I over heard people frustrated that had been waiting even longer. With more than 20 ppl in the waiting area and even more steadily adding their names to the return queue, only 2 staff members were at the registers. While they were doing their best, they needed help. Some people had complicated returns of used items without receipts or packaging. Those transactions were easily 20-30mins in length, a few even longer. No one came to provide back-up. Other staff members walked back and forth through the waiting crowd with no acknowledgement or care. A request was made to open additional registers (by others and then myself) and it fell on deaf ears. Meanwhile in the office to the left of the return area, there appeared to be a lead/supervisor laughing and joking with the steady flow of employees in and out of the office. This same individual came out of the office after almost 2 hours, to finally open an additional register. I suspect she decided to help because they were now about to close and she wanted to go home. Again with no acknowledgment to the customers that had been waiting for an insanely long time. In the future I will drive in circles 100 times and pay double in tolls before I return to this location for anything. Just an absurdly disappointing experience! Just A Note: -The staff member that I asked if help can be provided was pleasant. She went into the same office to ask and reported back that: "she was new and she was sorry but the person in the office said there was no one available" (the same person that final came out and opened up). - The 1 of 2 gentleman doing their best, did apologize to me for the wait when I finally made it to the register. read more

I have been dining at Ikea dinning room since they opened in Red Hook and I go there every chance I have for visiting but on my last visit a family of 5, I believe were Europeans, were ahead me. When its was time to get the tray and eating utensils all 3 of their kids were playing with and at times putting them in their mouths then putting them back into the cannister. On tuesdays there are 4 dollar entrees for members and on fridays there are half off all entrees. They also have plant balls for the vegeterians Also I like the chicken tender meal which is a popular choice for the kids. The move is to get the chicken and fries covered in gravy. You can hard pass on the strawberry ice cream - the texture was so weird that it didn't really resemble traditional ice cream at all. Everything was served on paper plates here and the trays were not cleaned very well. The staff had an attitude and not very friendly. This is by far the worst Ikea I have ever been to. The food court is pretty standard and straight forward, as far as Ikea's go. However, the checkout and post check out experience was truly horrendous. There is a line after you check out for 'Home delivery'. Advertised as a service for you to have your purchase shipped home in case you purchased more than you had initially set out to, not difficult given the nature of Ikea stores and their layouts/template rooms, or if you simply cannot carry that Kallax bookshelf you have been eyeing up. I was in line for OVER 2 HOURS without it making any progress. At first, I thought it was moving very very slow... but it turns out those in front of me simply gave up. There were NO signs, NO help, NO staff willing or trained to help/had any idea what was going on at all. Staff really didn't care for the building line despite multiple customers trying to ask for help. Save yourself the hassle and order online. Obviously IKEA is known for their furniture and whatnot but the cafeteria is a nice break in between shopping. I think their Swedish meatballs are fairly good and you can choose I believe 8, 12, or 16 meatballs. The peas are the worst part of the meal and I personally don't like the jam, I tend to eat it with just the mashed potatoes, gravy and meatballs. The chocolate cake was a nice addition and all fairly cheap. Drinks seem to never be in stock though which tends to be annoying each time I visit. read more

The closest IKEA option to the city and still takes over an hour or so to get to. You have two options to travel there. On weekends take a FREE water taxi from the city with stops at Pier 79 (40th & 12th Ave) and Pier 11 (Wall St.). From Pier 79 it takes approximately 40 min to reach. Cruise along the Hudson in this two story boat and see views of Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty. The first boat departs at 10:30am from midtown (pier 79) and last departure back is 5:05pm. The other option is taking the subway to Brooklyn and then waiting for the free shuttle that takes 20 min to reach IKEA, which might be daily. If you take the boat on the weekend it'll save you time and it's free! Go shop and get off at either stop on your return. The store is always busy on a weekend and expect lines early in the famed cafeteria. Being that it's cheap food and not much else around there, a great option to dine while you shop. There is also fast food sold after the check out area. To make things run smoother, they installed kiosks to order and then pick up at the counter. This looks like it's helped lines move faster. Happy they offer veggie dogs now too! Whether you plan to buy much or not, hop on the ferry and enjoy the ride there. Grab the famed Cinnabons and take a walk through the store. This is a great place just to go walk around and grab inspiration. IKEA Brooklyn has almost everything you can imagine. It's huge! And almost always packed. For a less crowded day, i suggest you go on a weekday during work hours. You'll be able to enjoy it a bit more, because weekends are horrible! lol. They have a full food court, a shopping market, and some nicely thought out decorated showrooms that show you all the possibilities of what their furniture can do. Truly, i love ikea. It's the perfect place for home decor, and you can grab some great stuff on a budget, or if you have money to splurge, it has some things for that too. I never get to take pics cuz the cell service in there sucks! But, the views are amazing. On weekends they also have a FREE ferry service going to the city. If you haven't been, i suggest it. It's a full size ikea with multiple floors. There is another ikea in Queens but it is a bit smaller. If you're looking for a traditional ikea in the city then this is your best bet. It is a STRUGGLE to get here, it is not near a subway. You can take a ferry from wall st area to come here or drive (if you have a car). There is a decent amount of traffic to get here during the weekend. I came here on a Sat from Queens (LIC) and it took abt an hr to get here. They have a decent plant selection I was able to grab a few for my home. It has everything any other ikea would and PLENTY of parking!! read more

Are you ready for the 411? Here we go...if a mental sanctuary was a place then then it would be IKEA for me! Absolutely love going there and had not been there since before COVID. I went there with my daughters to just window shop and walk through the Marketplace...ended up with a bag of Knick knacks and a whole dresser! The aesthetics are always inviting and increases the motivation to look at all the new things that have in stock. There has been some remodeling in the store which added to the ambiance of the unplanned shopping adventure.
