No flashy signs or neon lighting; the name of the restaurant is simply painted on the side of the building, but hidden a bit by the umbrellas and outdoor seating. The vibe inside is chill. Tonight's playlist included Sza, Clairo, and Kali Uchis. Everyone in the restaurant appeared to be in their 20s and 30s. There was one waiter who also served as the host and bartender. Additional staff was preparing food in the back. The interior of Smør is small. It's like a café. There were three booths for four people each, three small metal tables for two people each, and the bar could seat four people on stools. We had a reservation for 6:30 pm. Several people came by and inquired about eating inside, but all that was left was exterior seating. I ordered the Danish hot dog. The remoulade was light and tasty, the onions were crunchy, and the pickles were fresh, but not sour. The hot dog had a great snap and the bread tasted homemade. Wonderful textures going on with this. I'd get it again. My husband got the Swedish meatballs. He said it was exactly what he wanted it to be. A great dish for a winter evening. The pancakes are amazing. Swimming in butter and topped with whipped cream and lingonberry sauce. The best thing I've tasted this month. We weren't able to get a reservation but went ahead and stopped by Smor on a Sunday afternoon. Not surprisingly there was a wait which ended up being a half hour for a table. Smor is probably the smallest restaurant that I have been to and they try to make the most out of the space (there are tables outside which help provide much needed additional capacity weather permitting). Had the Hangover Sandwich (meat was a little dry but the sandwich was good overall) with a side of excellent Salt & Pepper Fries and the Pancakes (very good) with a side of Smoked Salmon. read more

Came here on a saturday morning at 11:30 AM and it was quite crowded, so I would definitely recommend a reservation. It was a small but cute space. I ordered the curried herring smorrebrod and really enjoyed the unique curry flavor. I also really liked how fresh the fish was. The bread was a bit tough, but was very hearty and filled with seeds. I walked by Smor and it looked enticing so I stopped in. All table inside and outside were taken which I thought had to be a great sign. The shop itself is super cute with friendly staff. I ordered a cookie and a cinnamon bun to go. Maybe I chose incorrectly, but the chocolate chunk cookie was bad. It had a burnt taste and overall unpleasant, spongy texture/ mouthfeel. Had a lovely brunch at Smør. The everything bowl was everything I could want in a brunch plate! I do wish it had more smoked salmon though--felt limited compared to the smorrebrod. The potatoes were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Only downsides are the menu does not have espresso beverages (you have to go next door and order separately, and there's often a long line) and the inside seating is very limited and cramped. Eating outside is the way to go, so probably not ideal for colder weather days. Food is great though so would probably try coming again on sunny, non-peak days! read more

They know how to make minimalism beautiful. This small eatery has a simple menu of salads, soups, and sandwiches, each made with care and the best ingredients. My sweet potato soup was light but soul warming, with a few sprigs of dill for health and aromatics. I shared the everything bowl, which had nova, avocado, toasted rye bread, boiled eggs, pieces of brie, and house salad with pickled red onions with a friend, and while this dish is simple, the quality of the ingredients elevated it. It came with another house salad on the side, so we were swimming in house salad, which I didn't mind. Their pastry selection at their bakery next door is a bit more exciting, but for a simple healthy meal on a crisp fall day, I can think of few better places to have lunch in the East Village. read more

What a gem! We only got two items but both were so very good. The egg, bacon & cheese on brioche had this incredible, creamy green aioli that put this sandwich over the top. The bacon was perfectly crispy and eggs were fluffy goodness. The pancakes were super unique. Think a thick crepe with some tasty blueberries, whipped cream and seasonal house jam. The slight note would be to have a little bit more of the jam than the whipped cream bc it was drowning in it but still gave this spot a 5 star. Must come back to try more things!! read more

I went here for dinner a while back with a group though this spot is more well known for brunch which makes sense as the best food I had was the dish that is available at said time. Service was friendly and the place is small. To drink, I had the "Americano" for $12 as many of the other cocktails has prosecco in them. It had cappelletti, vermouth, soda, and citrus and it was refreshing and tasty being negroni spritz-esque. My appetizer was the Conserva with wild sardines, lemon wedge, salted butter, and sourdough for $14. Conserva literally refers to canned fish (well better quality/fancier than the usual) and it was served as such with a semi-open can along with the pieces of bread and butter. I can't tell if I disliked or liked the presentation as it looked more like a food depression plate but the fish quality was good. I tried a salad from someone else which was pretty tasty and someone else had the white beans which they liked. My main was the Smoked Trout Noodles consisting of Danish smoked trout, buckwheat noodles, snap peas, pickled carrots, soft boiled egg, and roe for $22. This was pretty different with a strong fishy flavor of course from the very tasty smoked trout. The eggs added some nice richness and had some briny caviar on it. Unfortunately the noodles were a bit overcooked and there was some type of greens all over the plate (I believe tarragon but I'm not sure) which was pretty unappetizing and I had to remove most of it to enjoy the flavor. Speaking of tarragon, another person had the Hangover Sandwich which I tried a bit of which was tasty. The tarragon worked better here and the beef was tender and I would get that next time if I wasn't here presumably for brunch the next time I go here. For dessert I had the Danish Pancakes which were served with cream and homemade jam for $12 which were excellent. Nice soft texture to the pancakes and not too sweet with a good jam (I think raspberry or lingonberry but I'm not sure.) This would make a very tasty brunch and I can see why it's popular and I would likely go here and just get one of these and their Americano to drink and leave happy. The food here was pretty good. It was worth it for the price point though not all the flavors worked well. I would go back here and get other dishes or more likely go here for brunch or something instead of dinner. I was on the hunt for traditional Swedish pancakes, and thought their "Danish pancakes" were the closest thing I could find in NYC, so I made a to-go order for dessert. The food is a mix of sandwiches, salads and plates all typical of Denmark. We had a shrimp sandwich and the Everything plate. The sandwich was packed full of shrimps in a light creamy sauce, well flavored and it came with chips and a cucumber dill salad. The Everything was a plate with salad, smoked salmon, avocado, egg, cheese and some of their delicious bread from the Smør cafe/bakery down the street. The food was simply prepared and delicious, really good quality ingredients that tasted clean and fresh. The prices were very reasonable. I'll admit that I didn't know what exactly was a Nordic dish especially when coming in for breakfast. I felt adventurous and ordered 4 smørrebrød which were Curried Herring, Pickled Herring, Smoked Salmon, and Chicken Salad. The plating was so beautiful that I had to capture it and show the attention to detail on dish that I will be eating. I'll admit that I might have needed a knife rather than butter knife to cut through the bread because it was tricky that it almost flew off the plate from my knife work. In addition to the 4 smørrebrød, I ordered some sweet potato fries as a snack which were delay due to running out of potatoes or backed up in the kitchen.
