I bought a curtain for my son's room, he was very pleased with it, but the color of the curtain has faded.

My most recent visit to Ikea, we decided to stop by the cafe to enjoy some lunch. I been a few times but, it was closed because of COVID. The cafe didn't have many options as before but, they had chicken tenders. I love chicken tenders! These were crispy and white meat chicken. I liked that these weren't squishy meat like chicken nuggets from fast food restaurants. However, the tenders were a bit dry. The tenders usually come with fries and broccoli but, I like my broccoli on the crispy side. These were over-steamed to the point of being limped and squishy. My friend ordered Swedish meatballs and enjoyed them. They noted that the meatball looked like they were smaller than they remembered. We also got two slices of apple cake that was delicious and tasty. It had a strong cinnamon and apple taste and it wasn't overly sweet. The food was yummy and at a great price. The food quality is on par to frozen and pre-made food. I don't think anything here is prepared and made from scratch. However, most of the staff here were sour and plain rude. The Asian lady was very nice and wished everyone a good day. The rest of the staff should follow her approach to customer service. read more

I still love Ikea, but this is STILL the worst. The merchandise in this store is usually a mess. Most of the people who work here are, if not mean, simply could care less about helping. Check out is always a nightmare, with long lines and the self-checkout usually closed. And the food is consistently bad. I love the meatballs at all other Ikeas, but here they are tiny, dried up, the gravy is just brown water, and it's served on a tiny paper plate. And it's about $12!! Don't opt for the hot dogs either. Usually they are cold and dry. All around, this is an awful IKEA. read more

Ordered kallax self unit picked it up drove it home asked friend to come help put it together. Opened every box no hardware to put together. Not one screw . Called they said we are sorry will give $30 gift card sending part give it a few days. Ikea, home of the swedish meatballs and swedish ready-to-assemble furnitures. Very large and fill with things that makes you want to stay there for hours browsing oohhing and ahhhing. I came here on 11/23 to look in the kitchen department as hubby & I want to redo our kitchen. We looked at many sinks (I never knew there were tiny sinks, how can people wash their dishes in that tiny space?). We also looked at bathrooms (need new hooks or organizational shelves). We came again 12/17 to help a friend find a tv stand in the 'As Is' section (we helped them move during the snowstorm 12/16). We are planning to go again this weekend (sunday 1/3) because my brother-in-law moved downstairs to another room and need dressers. Then, hubby&I can finally tackled on our kitchen project when we were browsing for new sinks and countertops last time. Bathrooms are usually always clean here which is a plus after you are walking around for hours browsing. read more

While this is not a personal ideal location by any means (this has turned into a two hour trip from home), unfortunately this IKEA doesn't make up for it in service either. I don't necessarily blame the employees as much as the store set up. The store is way too big and spread out without any clear direction to understand where you're supposed to go. I had an order pick up, which for some reason I had to claim a parking spot for. Upon receiving the confirmation text, once I checked in, I needed to go to a place called "beige gate." I asked two employees and one Park attendant, and all them look like I had four heads. Turns out I was supposed to go to the parking lot on the bottom floor for curbside pick up. I can understand why the order went down since I had to select that I brought a car for some reason, but the fact that nobody knew what location I was talking about was a little jarring. I wanted to be able to browse around, but between all the time spent on waiting and figuring out where I was supposed to go, I had no time to. I'm not sure how this IKEA is doing businesswise, considering it's the one of the only ones in New York City at the moment, but they're probably losing a lot of potential customers from people experiencing the same thing, as I can see with these other reviews. To think I came all this way to avoid a $5 shipping fee. HA!!! I wasted a good chunk of change in time. Just pay the shipping fee and avoid this store at all costs. read more

This might be the worst managed ikea in the world. Nothing works. Mess everywhere. Restaurant food is subpar. Menu screens broken. No silver ware. No mashed potato. No fountain drinks. No glasses. They give you a plastic spoon to eat your meatballs. And a paper cup for coffee. No water to drink. read more

My husband and I love the food at IKEA. It was decent with reasonable price and great portion. Our favorites were the hamburger set and the grilled salmon & veggies. However, this location of IKEA was not the best choice to visit due to bad maintenance and poor customer service. Anyway some tips as you navigate the IKEA cafeteria. 1. Grab a trolley cart. -you'll thank me later 2. Grab a tray. 3. Get in line. Hurry up. It's filling up 4. Look on the board. There are pictures 5. Swedish meatballs ftw. Also chicken fingers 6. Be nice to the workers and order 7. Receive food and put tray on cart- this is where you thank me. 8. Check out. Don't forget a soda. 9. Enjoy. Tips: the gravy on the mashed potatoes was so good. Make sure to grab some ranch and bbq for dipping at the little condiment stations. The soda is low sugar. I wonder if that is a euphemism for we water it down haha. They were out of lingonberry on the day we went. But it's a must try. The food is excellent for the price. Two people for under $15. Wow, what happened Ikea? This place used to be fully stocked, pre-covid. Currently, the shelves are barely half stocked at best. Food wise, it's gone to shit. The only exception would be the mash and the fries. I got regular meatballs that the food server verbally repeated, so it's not the plant or veggie balls. They only give you eight meatballs now. Wtf. And they give you some really sad looking and tasting broccoli instead of a variety of veggies. The mac and cheese were TERRIBLE. For some reason it was bitter. Wtf are you adding to the max and cheese to make it bitter?! Lingonberry sauce is now dispensed where the condiments section is, which is fine, they provided less and less sauce with each of my previous visits. The soda fountains are turned off so the only beverage you get, is coffee and, half and half. Ice still works in the fountain machines though. The Queens Ikea makes the Red Hook one look AMAZING in comparison. All the shelves are completely stocked. You can buy on-site, same day. Every Ikea, no matter how small, should stock a 18 lb. chair so you don't have to pay $10 shipping that can take weeks to be delivered. COVID shopping has changed some of the best features of the Red Hook store. The dining room is closed so there's none of the surprisingly good BBQ ribs. :( Also the free NY Water Taxi ferry is suspended until further notice. The ferry ride is literally the best part of the whole trip. I was able to try almost all of the merchandise for sale with display items not bolted to the shelves. Pro Tip: If the display is wobbly or shows signs of wear, don't buy it! If it can't handle the kind of wear and tear it gets in-store, you're going to end up having to replace it way too soon. I encountered a lot of wobbly chairs along all price points. I bought the most solidly constructed one there. I was able to easily find everything I came for. All the shelves were stocked with the full assortment of items on display. If you saw it, you could buy it. For a Saturday the store wasn't crowded at all so there was no social distancing line to get in. I power walked to the chair display, wiggled my butt on some chairs for a while, then power walked to the Marketplace to pick up a frame & chair cushion, power walked to Section 29 Bin 4, picked out my chair, flew over to the self-checkout and was out in less than 40 mins. One downside with the self-checkout... there's no way to enter your Ikea Family card so if you've got an item that qualifies for the card discount, you're going to have to wait in a much longer line. Of course I'd just missed the B61 back to Downtown Brooklyn and the wait for the next one might have taken the most time in my trip. Because you're on the water, the Red Hook Ikea might be 10° colder than anywhere else. In the summer it's fantastic, in the winter... not so much. Overall, even with the COVID restrictions and closings it's a pretty satisfying experience. Now it's time to put my chair together! Fun! read more

Food is always great. Love eating here. The biggest downside is that they never have anything I want, not even simple doors of grey color. I bought a wardrobe over a year ago. They didn't have the doors of the same color: grey, I'm not even talking about mirror doors. I came back today again and they didn't have them again. We needed a bed, found the one we wanted. Found the frame, but then they didn't have the headboard in the same color. Honestly these are just 2 examples. I really don't know what's going on with this ikea in Brooklyn. So I think the overall consensus on this place has been established lol but why not add another opinion to the bunch? So, IKEA in itself is a little frustrating to shop at. We don't own much IKEA furniture, we mostly shop at Ashley's, but we wanted to save money on a dresser (ended up NOT getting one from here but one from Amazon instead) and honestly the furniture is just okay. If you're on a budget, you can shop here and DIY some gorgeous furniture, but don't expect to buy and simply have to build a beautiful piece. The furniture is humble and simple. Not too many bells and whistles. On to the food! It was and is 100% PURE HYPE. All of these YouTubers completely hyped their food up for no reason. Two things popped in my head while eating: School cafeteria and Hospital. I kid you not! The platter you see before you also came to a whopping $50, which I personally thought was a little steep for bland food that was made with no love. Eat at your own risk. We certainly will. I went to Ikea to get a cabinet for my son's room. I decided to order it at work and pick it up later that evening and I was so glad I did that. I know the weekends can be pretty busy. The weekday we got there in 30 mins and was out of the store in 10 mins. I walked inside from the 15 min waiting location. That's only offered to customers picking up items and leaving right away. I'm actually glad they offer that at this location. We got our items at the pick-up desk. you are required to show your state ID and your receipt. My wife and I came here last fall during the brief period that indoor restaurant dining was legal in NYC. We had our first indoor restaurant dining experience since March at IKEA's cafeteria. My Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, gravy, and a sauce made from lingonberries were all fantastic. The plate also came with veggies, however, and they were not fantastic. Another issue was that the IKEA employee whose job was to escort diners to their table placed a group of four construction workers at the table closest to ours, which I thought was dumb. The cafeteria is huge and was almost empty. Even though the tables were spaced more than six feet apart, why not try to separate diners as much as possible? The main reason that we had decided to have lunch in IKEA was because we assumed that we wouldn't have anyone dining at a table close to ours. As for the furniture, the prices are low but it is mostly of mediocre quality and you have to assemble it yourself or pay someone to assemble it for you. Of course, although my wife is an exception, most people wouldn't expect the highest quality for the lowest price. When you get to Ikea, it's a pretty standard shopping experience. The kitchen is usually stocked with delicious Swedish meatballs and lingonberry juice in a juice box. The returns line is also not ridiculous - it's really luck of the draw in terms of how long you wait. (I've come Saturday night and waited an hour. I've come on a Sunday morning and waited only 15 minutes.) It's pretty no hassle, grab a number and get your return processed, no hassle. The issue is how you get to Ikea. If you're in Manhattan, the ferry is reliable and on time. If you can hold the item, you can bring it back. I saw many people bring furniture on the ferry even if it wouldn't have fit in the blue bag. If you're in Brooklyn, just get to the Ikea shuttle stop behind the Brooklyn Borough Hall building whenever you can, the shuttle times are not predictable and expect to wait anywhere from 0-45 minutes for it to show. read more

But if you can survive the showroom without screaming in each other's faces AND get through the assembly process before one of you murders the other, your marriage might stand the test of time after all. Jury's still out for us. 2. Quick, efficient visits. There is no getting through this place quickly. You can know exactly what you want to get and be laser-focused on that dresser or bench or mirror or whatever, and one of you will be like, "Ooh, Owl Lamp." And you'll have to stop and admire the adorable owl lamp. 3. Rib Night. I don't even know if they do it any more, I didn't ask. But I do know that dining in the IKEA restaurant still depresses me down to my soul. Things IKEA is Good For: 1. Cheap, sturdy furniture for any purpose or function. It's a place to fill your simple needs. While I'm not into some of the designs, I feel as though they've over the years they've done a better job designing to the point that for certain items, IKEA is not just cheaper and sturdier than the equivalents from other spots, but also more attractive as well. It's entirely possible that someone may in fact exclaim, "Oh my god, WHERE did you get that DARLING light fixture?!" But I maintain that if you want someone to say that, or if you know people who would say that, you have larger issues. 2. Doing things yourself. There's a limited amount of staff here to help you, so you better be able to figure things out on your own. And of course, you're going to be building this stuff yourself, so get ready. My weirdo of a wife loves to put the furniture together,* and whether or not it's your thing, I'd recommend getting yourself a drill to make your life easier. 3. Since COVID has started we had to go to multiple ikea's. This store was well organized .we had returns to do and they had a separate line for that. I was a little upset when I went to the counter with an item and did not have the receipt. the item was fullt packaged and never opened. the women told me that they could not take back items without a receipt no matter the condition due to covjd. it was funny watching ppl with fully put together pieces being return and when asked she said we can resell them as is. I have been here a few times and recently came here to help a family member deck out their new place. This location is pretty massive and is usually quite busy. Having been to Sweden many times, I am a fan of the café. Although not 100% accurate, it does remind me of a Swedish office cafeteria. The chocolate cake is fantastic. My family member got a whole bunch of things from storage bins, to furniture (a dresser and some book cases) and a bunch of other stuff. All I got were some bibs for our little boy (and some chocolate cake). Had a list of items that I need for the home, so decided to walk in to the store rather than online. Walking around this circular maze at Ikea gets me dizzy, tired, and frustrated. It's not easy finding items in this massive place, staff on the floor were pretty helpful in locating the items though. What got to me was the at the check out point. I did not use self serve, rather I stood on the line for the cashier to scan my purchases. I questioned the Cashier on one of the items since the scanned price is not the same as what was on the sticky tag advertised. She told me to run upstairs and take of picture of the tag. Why? What for? As a sales representative of Ikea, all you had to do was request a manager to look through the online system to verify the price. Why make a customer run up two flights of stairs, going through the maze of merchandise just to take a picture of the price tag. This is a BIG store with a LOT of options. You walk thru the premises in a flowing manner, drifting from one environment to another until you have no idea where the entrances and exits are. I always end up struggling to find the exit, but I don't mind because it is a fun place to visit. I also like that they arrange some of the furniture as if it is someone's bedroom or kitchen et cetera, and you get a look at how things might really be in someone's house. Some of the merchandise is good, some of it is not, and mostly the prices are low. Ikea is not perfect, but it is still my go-to place for budget priced furniture. read more

Our kitchen was undergoing a renovation from years of damages that resulted from wear and tear. Our prior kitchen had the old wooden cabinets from the Wonder Years. Ikea fit our needs for the kitchen cabinet layout. We mapped out our kitchen space and design using the online consultation tools. It made the whole process super easy and saved tons of time! All we had to do was take the shopping list to a sales consultant to process our order. We opt for store pick-up instead of delivery due to our installation dates. Truth be told, it was more frustrating working with a contractor than picking up stuff from Ikea. Unfortunately, many items are out of stock due to the COVID circumstance. Our front cabinet doors are still missing. Other than a few minor setbacks with the hardware; we were able to get everything to complete our new kitchen. It did take a few trips getting the items from mis-measurements to out of stock items. We also learned a few things from designing the kitchen ourselves. The countertops that Ikea offers is designed to compliment most kitchen layouts. As far as countertop material goes; they offer a fair range to choose from: quartz, wood composite, laminate, butcher block, etc. However, we only had the option of quartz since we need a custom fit. Initially, we did opt for quartz with Ikea. It was quoted a lot more in comparison to a countertop showroom/wholesale. Ikea's quartz countertops are custom orders which ranges from $45/sq ft to $77/sq ft. *Note: Ikea does not offer custom cut for any other material aside from Quartz. Installation and delivery is charged separately. We double checked with their sales consultants. They also suggested to check with Home Depot or Lowes which would require making a purchase from their stores. Ultimately, we did our own research and went with another countertop place. We purchased grey quartz at $25/sq ft which included custom cut and delivery. Far more affordable compared to Ikea's limited options! Fortunately, there were no lines since we went during the late evenings. On a separate trip to Hicksville, we had to wait on a short line. There's also a separate entrance for returns/exchanges and customer service related issues. The only con for both locations in Bklyn and Hicksville is the extremely long wait any pick-up order done in person or online! Overall, so glad that it's done and over with. And enjoying some r&r time with a brand, new spanking kitchen! read more

This IKEA is pretty small compared to the rest of the world. The stuff here are mostly in stock, but most of the items don't have price labels, and a price checker is almost nowhere to be found. Family card members get coffee or tea for free at the cafeteria. The cafeteria is probably the best part of the IKEA experience. Cheap and good food, but seating is pretty limited. Seems like there is not enough staff to organize or help restock or assist customers. If you park your car, just be careful of the shady scammers driving around trying to ask you to get your dents and car fixed. They will ask you to follow them, or they can go to your house to have the dents fixed, but they will scam you by either messing up your car or make it worst and promise to come back the next day, but never to be seen again. This is the only ikea we have, so we have to work with what is here. Pre-Covid, coming to the Red Hook location was hectic. Always sooooo many people everyehere, whether it's in the cafe, on the floor with unruly children or just waiting in lines check out. Sooooo many people. Towards the end of phase 1 into 2 they allowed, a pick up service where you order online and check in to pick up your items in your own vehicle. It was a bot of a mess, im still waiting for one of my refunds. They've canceled items from a my order without any notification, given the wrong itemd, forgot an item and the last time they didn't even tell me my order was ready.... but remember, it is what it is. This is the only 5 borough location. Now post quarantine, I returned to the store to purchase some items and there were 2 separate, long lines: one to purchase the other for returns. Thank God I was also returning an item. It only took 20 or do minutes to get inside to the next line. The crowd control from the outside does help alleviate some of the 3 quarantine crowds that make it miserable here. But you best believe you will be waiting in long lines to check out. On a positive note, I like the way that they have controlled the flow of traffic with a monitor to keep the balance and eliminate the line cutters. Hopefully in time it gets better. read more

FOOD REVIEW The Ikea store has a spacious and relaxing atmosphere. The cafe counter is located near the checkout area. I tried the cheese pizza slice for $2 plus tax, which was delicious. However, the size of the slices varied. You can order through a touch screen, but there were some technical issues with two of the four available screens. The staff may be limited on certain days, which can cause delays in receiving your order. The menu has reasonable prices, and they have added new items like a veggie hot dog, pineapple mango smoothie, and strawberry twist frozen yogurt. The restrooms are located on the same floor, and there is parking available. There are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your food. read more

Just like with Ikea furniture, you've got to temper your expectations based on what things are costing you. For value? Ikea gets 4 stars. The Red Hook Ikea must have millions of visitors a year. To my knowledge, it's the only location accessible to Manhattan and Brooklyn. I discovered from my apartment in Downtown Brooklyn I can take the bus about 15min and it lands be smack dab in front of Ikea - it couldn't get more convenient. For some people, they might hate the ritual of walking through miles of showroom before even getting to the products or warehouse. I on the other hand LOVE this. It's the best kind of window shopping. What's even better? It's all cheap AF so if I really want something, I already know I can afford it. I picked up a couple Billy Bookcases for work storage, and I've been hot and heavy in research for the "Billy Bookcase Hacks." Anyone who's remotely handy and on a budget should check this out. You'll thank me later! So suit up, eat some meatballs, spend a couple hours perusing, and bask in the possibilities. read more

Arrived on a Friday at around 2:30 with no wait to get in. After driving from the Bronx, my biggest complaint is the stock doesn't match what they show online. Nearly 6 items I came for were non existent. From pots and pans, curtains and lighting to name a few. The shelves were empty. Not sure why the ratings are so low but this is my go-to IKEA since it's the closest to home. It's on the edge of a scenic area so you get to see the beautiful Red Hook's waterfront. Parking is usually not an issue. I think inventory will always be an issue with any IKEA for popular items so I won't hold it against them. I always make an excuse to go to IKEA just so we can get the yummy good. You really can't go wrong with IKEA's food and you can buy frozen portions at the checkout downstairs. read more

Honestly, the 2 star consensus isn't harsh enough. This review was sparked by a recent visit to the Queens IKEA which I will be reviewing next and which also reminded me of how much I DREAD going to IKEA (though I will say my experience at the Queens location was mildly better). First off, Red Hook is off the beaten path even if you do live in Brooklyn (which I did at the time). Last Fall I decided to browse IKEA for a living room couch with my partner. You know how the old 30 Rock episode goes, I was worried our relationship wouldn't get out of there unscathed! After multiple visits to IKEA, I now understand the reputation. We tried out a few couches and found one in gray that we liked, but we wanted it another color instead (tan). We speak to a nearby employee who didn't offer much help, but we were in luck, apparently they had that color in stock! So we make our way down to the parts area and guess what? No couch. Not sure exactly what happened and I kind of doubt the couch was snatched up in the few minutes it took to walk over but the information we got was not correct. So we end up searching online. You can't have the couch delivered (Why? More a problem with IKEA as a whole but whatever) so you have to see when it pops up as available in your nearest store. I happen to have a day off in the middle of the week and show up at opening when I see that the couch is available. We wait in line to get the piece of paper you need to claim one part of the couch (and then we had to collect the 2 other parts.. don't understand this system at all either) and my partner says we should probably grab the 2 parts before someone else does. I say eh why bother, we're here early, I'm sure it will be there. Well I was wrong. Only 1 of 2 parts were there in the shelves. So we get the 1 available part in the shelves and head to checkout to collect the third part which requires the form from an employee. As we pay for our items I noticed that other customers seemingly had the same issue because they were unable to get the part we bought with the form. So another set us customers left unsatisfied because of these 3 parts, IKEA stocked 2 of 1 and 1 each of the others. Again, why!? I ultimately had to go to the Long Island Ikea on Friday after work and hope and pray that the final part would be there when I arrived. Thankfully it was, but it was a nightmare finally getting everything. I feel like they should focus more on delivery. Have each model in the store to see and check out, but make it available for shipping! It's crazy checking stock everyday and running in hoping you'll get the last piece of your furniture that you NEED to make it functional. Also this is kind of petty but my partner hyped up the cinnamon rolls which I had never tried and at the time they had 0 prepared/hot food. This was September 2021 so that may have been impacted by the pandemic. read more

The furniture is nice, the prices are mostly great deals and the way the furniture is packaged is incredibly convenient as it saves space an makes for easy moving. However, the employees tend to be unhelpful and rude. They have a zone made for 15 minute parking to load your purchases by the exits yet people park there for hours on end and use it as a regular parking space! and nothing is done as it's not enforced in anyway it's terrible, making it very difficult to take your new furniture home. They also allow people to go inside the display rooms and take off their shoes, socks, etc. And lay inside the beds! So a lot of the display rooms are unsanitary, smell bad and stained especially the ones for kids so I wouldn't touch anything. They simply allow people to run around like it's a zoo with no rules and the few rules they have aren't even enforced. There's employees by the self check outs but again they don't enforce anything or even make sure there's a single file line so people end up skipping each other, arguing or just breathing down each others necks not giving them personal space. I know this is mainly the fault of the bad customers not the store but they have the ability to do something about it and chose not to. read more

Out of everything. Very hard to find anything. Staff is unpleasant and meatballs were really greasy and mushy. Couldn't identify what meat it is supposed to be. If you go when it's not busy and have a lot of patience maybe you can get some good stuff. It's not all awful but I'm not in a hurry to go back. read more
