I am delighted with Luis, his son Junior and Bedford Galleries of Brooklyn, New York City. They are the best. Luis and his family are very educated, dignified and transparent in their business and interpersonal transactions. They eagerly share their vast knowledge and do not pressure or hustle you in any way, shape or form. I felt so relaxed I thought I was talking to a well reknowned art curator at the Metropolitan Museum. They realize that estate or antiques sales more often than not brings emotions to the forefront. They do not take advantage of this sentimental inclination. Their amazing comprehensive command of period design, architecture, artistinal manufacturing, contemporary and traditional art, collectibles, multicultural symbolism, recent market and taste trends is stunning. Further, Junior has a warm sincere manner when speaking to anybody in the family from children, cynical adults or otherwise vulnerable elderly members. Bedford is a classic "mom and pop" shop that has a deeply rooted human touch lacking in more grandiose, faceless commercial institutions. Luis is knowledge and a pleasure to work with. My mother bought some chairs that needed some TLC. The foams were replaced and new fabric was sewn on. The items are the store are reasonably priced for antiques. I would recommend for dressers, chandeliers and lamps. read more

Went today looking for a dresser. They had just turned over their inventory, the place was much emptier than usual. Luis was quick to show us what he had downstairs too. The few dressers they had were recently brought in. Loved the look of the one they were polishing up. Gorgeous mahogany with intricate handles. Tried all the drawers and pretty quickly agreed to his price. I've bought a few other pieces in the past and they do a great job fixing broken bits and restoring to a nice finish. They helped us out to the car and put the dresser in the back for us. I get home and as we're taking out the drawers to bring it upstairs we notice the back panel... aaand my heart sinks. I can't believe I didn't check out the back of the dresser. The thin plywood panel had rotted and dried so that I could peel off bits of the layers of wood. I reached down and gently pulled towards me and the thing was cracking right off the dresser. It was so surprising because the rest of it was beautiful and they'd just oiled and polished the mahogany. The inside where the drawers push in was really clean too. I was pretty worried I'd just payed $200 for a dresser I didn't want to put my clothes into. So we went back with a pic and a video of the back peeling off and asked if anything could be done. He seemed a little surprised and he agreed to send a couple guys over to replace it. They came within the hour and ten minutes later, I had the dresser I thought I'd bought in the first place-but with a brand new back panel! I thought about 4 stars but you know what- I understand mistakes and I really don't think he was trying to get one over on us because the job was such an easy one. I even more so appreciate that he didn't give us a hard time. In a city like this where a lot of business owners feel like well, if you don't come back, there are a million other people who will... This is the best value I've found for vintage and antique furniture in NYC. The staff is great and continues to answer our questions post sale. The delivery guys are super quick and really careful. This is a true NYC family business and it feels like it. This is place is awesome. You can get a steal of a deal here. They have some real antiques but also some mid century modern stuff which I tend to lean towards. Their stuff comes in a variety of conditions. The mint stuff is still a good value. I go in for the deals on the slightly banged up stuff. We got a nearly flawless mid-century credenza that is amazingly well made that had a stain on it. It was less than a 1/4 of what we saw anywhere else. The stain was right on top which is where the TV sits. So you don't even see it in our place! How awesome is that! Just for fun I listed on it on Craigslist to see if I could make a profit selling it... oh hell yes. More than double what I paid. The stock changes all the time. I go in about once every 2 weeks and there's at least 2 things I would buy if I had to furnish a place. Go often, get to know the family and ask your friends what they're looking for because word is going to get out soon and you won't be the only one with the Bedford Gal's hookup. read more

Luis Atauchi owns Bedford Galleries is a hands on businessman who says what he does and does what he says. He purchased and removed furniture and other items from an apartment that had to be emptied. He did this timely and fairly with a professionalism not usually found in the antique and used furniture business. You get what you pay for and I got a beautiful yellow round table for $20! I had to fix the pedestal myself to secure it a little better, but it's perfect now. They're definitely fair and friendly at Bedford Galleries! I'm going back soon to look for some new chairs. read more
