THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICES AND DELIVERY SERVICES IN HISTORY. How could a global company be this INSANELY MESSED-UP is truly beyond my comprehension.
Summary:
It is incredibly difficult to get hold of customer services on the phone, they frequently cut off your call by announcing that there is a high call volume and good bye (before you get to talk to a real person!!). Once you get to talk to someone on the phone, they will tell you that they can do nothing about your orders, and that your best shot is to go into the store, as if they are two different identities.
The customer services in store is even less amiable. The default wait time is 90 minutes. And then you get to speak to a representative usually with an annoyed face who can care less about your purchases. They tend to get to 'this is not our problem' conclusion very quickly, blaming either the customer services on the phone or the delivery company for your issues. Their pissed-off attitude and unfriendliness is matched by nothing I have seen in life.
The delivery company is a complete mess. I got my furniture delivered along with two boxes with lids. Those plastic boxes were covered with scratches and dirts. When I complained to the delivery driver, he said 'Yes you can return it, but you will get the same thing next time too!' And that 'If you go into the warehouse of XPO(delivery company), it is a TOTAL MESS. This was not my fault.' Well, thanks much for the pep talk! --- yes, they have zero interest in customer satisfaction.
The story:
All I wanted was to buy a wardrobe and a bookcase yet it seems unbelievable difficult to accomplish.
Day 1: went into the store and got two customized units. They were scheduled for delivery 10 days later.
Day 2: realized that I need the furniture assembly services, called the Ikea Customer Services, which was crazy hard to get hold of -- after 2 hours of having my calls dropped and then waiting, was told that they cannot make any changes to orders made in the store. So I had to go back to the store (which is one hour away from me) and then wait in line for 1.5 hours to talk to a customer services representative. They canceled my first order and put a new order with the assembly services added, scheduled for two weeks later. By that time, I was really exhausted about the whole thing and thought it was over. Nope.
Day 15: the truck driver arrived, the driver moved all the merchandise into my apartment but said he got no instruction of the assembly services that I already paid for. I presented him with my receipt, but he just kept saying no, he didn't get any order of it. I asked if there is anyone he can call to clarify, he said he doesn't work directly for the delivery company (XPO) & has no contact of anyone!! Then I took a look at the two boxes included in the order, they were all covered with scratches and dirts, as if they were picked up from an abandoned factory. I said I cannot accept something like this, and the driver said 'you will get the same thing every time you order from them! If you go into XPO's warehouse, it is a complete mess.' Can you believe this?? He did not have the slightest sense of feeling sorry, his fault or not. And he did not possess the most basic customer service ethic and asked me to accept damaged goods because that's the best I can get!
Completed turned off by this, I tried to call Ikea customer services, with the most frustrating experience of being cut off again and again. When I finally got hold off a representative, they were able to check and found out that the store forgot to attach the assembly services with the delivery service!! She asked me to go back to the store to ask for unknown amount of reimbursement. I asked if she can reschedule an assembly for me, she did, but then later I found out that the new order was asking me to PAY $79 MORE for the rescheduled service!! By that point, the phone call already ended, instead of going back to the painful process of calling, I decided to go into the store, as if it was my last (if even that was possible) chance.
Long trip to the store & 1.5 hr wait time later, I got to talk to a representative who had the most unfriendly attitude. I explained that my delivery was messed up and that they refused to do the assembly for me, and she immediately said 'that's the delivery company's problem, not ours.' Yes, the first instinct was to say that it was not their problem, even though they were the ones who hired this insane delivery company (customers have no other option) !! After 30 minutes of getting her to understand that it was the store's fault for not adding the assembly services to the delivery, she agreed to reimburse me for it and charged me half price for the new assembly services. Now, it is scheduled for 10 days later.
Currently, I just keep my fingers crossed that someone would really show up on that day and finish the work. Pray for me please. read more
