I have been a patient at Ike Lans Family Dentistry for many years and while nearly all my experiences have been good, considering the fact it is hard to get excited about a dentist trip, I recently had another visit for something I had been putting off (I knew it was going to require drills and I did a lot to delay it) and I need to share my fantastic experience. The reception staff greets me with friendly smiles and efficiently takes care of all the paperwork, ensuring a smooth start to my visit. The waiting area is comfortable and inviting, and I appreciated the short wait time before being called back for my appointment. On this visit, I had Dental Assistant Shakila, whose calming and professional demeanor immediately put me at ease. Throughout the entire procedure, Shakila displayed the kind of skills and care that any patient would love, and I felt extremely comfortable being in good hands. I had a certain expectation of some pain and discomfort, but I was blessed to have Dr. Ahmed Saadull leading the charge. Although I had to get a lot of work done, this was the only time in my dental visit life that I have had a totally pain-free experience in the chair. What truly sets this dental visit apart was the emphasis on creating a comfortable and relaxing environment. I have been a patient here for 9 years- along with my 5 children. I have had positive experiences until this week. On Monday I called to schedule and appointment for my daughter for extractions. An older lady answered and was very rude. She said abruptly- which daughter!? I asked if she needed my name first or any information. She said "Of course! " and then " are we going to fight back and forth all morning". I was so taken aback I hung up. I called back shortly after and asked to speak to the office manager and she told me she wasn't in and wouldn't be all day. I told her she was rude to me and she replied "Sorry honey!". I made the appointment which I cancelled shortly after. I am moving my five kids and myself somewhere else! This behavior is completely unacceptable for a business! read more

I had an appointment scheduled here as a new patient for 8am. After getting my young family situated for me to be gone for an early morning appointment, I arrived at 7:57am. Unfortunately Apple Maps took me to an address 1 mile away from the correct location. At 8:01am I called to confirm the correct location and was headed that way. At 8:03am I was pulling into the parking lot and the receptionist called to tell me they would have to reschedule my appointment because I was late. The tone of the receptionist was less than pleasant. I was just going to walk in and reschedule in person since I was already there - mind you only 3 minutes late - but decided that as a new patient I felt like I was not treated with grace or respect in my light situation, so I called and said those exact words to the receptionist but I was just disregarded. Needless to say, I told them to take my name off the list because I will be going somewhere that appreciates my business and shows me a little more respect. After all, this is the suburbs full of busy families who have large networks so a 5 minute grace period on time might be appreciated by their clientele. So disappointing! read more

Took my family here once. Care seemed fine but had some issues: Up-sell - pretty consistently trying to up-sell from the staff. Ended up paying out of pocket for some adult fluoride treatments that they talked my kids into. Had the same pitch to me. Seemed like there was consistently something I need that wasn't going to be covered by insurance. Billing - Took several months and phone calls to sort through the billing. No responses to messages left. They were trying to bill me for the portion of the treatment that wasn't covered by the insurance, even though they were in network. It's insurance 101 that you can't bill for that excess. My wife ended up going uninsured for her visit, and they wouldn't provide an adjusted rate for her. So I ended up paying almost full rack rate - about 50% more out of pocket than the insurance would have reimbursed them for. Like I said, not screw ups on the service, but they are definitely very interested in squeezing every dollar out of you. Watch your bills. read more

Small exam rooms with no doors so noisier than other offices.They still do bite wings X-rays? They use a machine called a Cavitron which is an Ultra sonic scaler, I never had that experience before but found it to be better than the scraping. I do have problem with their billing where I never had a problem with other offices. I keep getting a bill for 2.99 for cleaning every 6 months when I go back over to discuss they take the charge off. This last visit when I checked out I asked if I would get a bill? They replied I would not.I did receive bill but they do not understand why. My Coworker has the same insurance and never gets a bill for cleaning /preventative work. The schedule seems to be followed when I have gone there.Some offices can have you waiting over 10 minutes past your appointment time. I would rate them a solid 4 stars for the service, I feel they do a good cleaning and exam. read more

My entire family has been going to Dr. Lans for almost 17 years and we wouldn't ever consider going to another dentist. His staff is wonderful and have been great with my two kids ever since they were 3 years old. Highly recommend this practice! read more

If I wasn't already giving Lans a five star review, I would add on a star for the hilarious one star filtered review. That review actually got me to make an appointment here. I called the office for an appointment and was helped by a very nice receptionist. She didn't give me any grief about preferring the last appointment of the day and having a a complicated schedule. She was able to get both the Mister and I in for cleanings within ten days. We were able to fill out all our new patient and insurance information online - didn't even have to print it - beforehand, which was great. I arrived a few minutes before my appointment and was warmly greeted. I signed the paperwork I'd filled out online and sat down to wait. There was a tv playing a program about meth mouth, which was a bit weird; I didn't realize meth mouth was a big problem in Ashburn? I noticed several magazines, but a few days later, my husband complained there were none during his appointment. Alright - who stole them?! ;-) I was called back for my cleaning at my appointment time. The dental hygienist was very friendly and had mastered the art of talking to you when you can't respond. There were these finches in a huge glass enclosure that was a bit trippy. The cleaning was quick and painless. I really appreciated that the hygienist let me know about some additional coverage my insurance company was providing. At the end of the appointment, she even printed out the information for me. The visit with Dr Lans was quick, but I guess that's a good sign for my teeth! Like everyone else I encountered in his office, he was friendly and efficient. After giving me a clean bill of health, he pointed out a potential long-term problem and presented a solution, but it wasn't a sales pitch. Staff was friendly, appointments ran on time, facilities were new, nice and clean. They have an orthodontist on staff and also do pediatric dentistry. My family will certainly be back. read more

Still kinda feel that they were trying to sell me dental services while they had their hands in my mouth. So far the best dentist office I have seen in Northern Virginia. My family and I have been going here for about a year. Very nice staff and a great doctor's cadre. Today I had two cavity fillings to get done and had to bring my 4 year old daughter who had a subsequent appointment there 30 minutes after mine. Not only was the service and care spot on, they were the best to my 4 year old while I was getting my work done. She played quietly in their playroom and from what I understand entertained the crowd. This place has the highest customer service and family friendly atmosphere I have ever seen in a dentist office. Highly recommend. read more

My Bitter/Sweet Review The Sweet: I'll start off by saying that Dr. Propoggio and Anna (dental assistant?) make the BEST dental team I've ever come across (...and my teeth have seen a LOT of dentists). They created a fun and relaxing environment, and I actually looked forward to visiting them for my check-ups. The Bitter: The office staff totally miscalculated the max out-of-pocket expenses for some dental work that my wife needed. It happened around the end of 2015, so holding off for another month or two would have saved us a few hundred dollars on non-urgent dental work. After sorting through all the details, it turns out that the similar dental treatment plan would have been nearly $1000 (80%) less at other reputable offices that are in-network with our insurance. I would certainly recommend this place to others, but 1) KEEP A VERY CLOSE EYE ON YOUR OWN INSURANCE COVERAGE AND LIMITS, 2) Stay in-network, and monitor that the dental office continues to accept your insurance. read more

I generally don't do reviews unless I feel the service and support of a particular provider was above and beyond. In this case it was , from all the assistants / specialists / doctors we got an exceptional level of service and support that we haven't seen at any other dentist . Infact I have my other kid going to other dentist in Ashburn and I can compare both and I am sure I will be moving other kid to Dr. Lans as well. read more

Just had my teeth cleaned here for the first time. I was very impressed by Dr. Ike Lans and his associates! I love the setup with a huge indoor bird house by each chair. I've been avoiding going to the dentist since moving to Ashburn because finding a new, good dentist is so hard and if you hit a bad one along the way, it's a nightmare. But thankfully, I chose Lans Family Dentistry! They were super accommodating when I had to change my appointment (no business about having to pay because I cancelled on the day of the appointment), they took my insurance (Guardian), they got me in right on time (and at noon at that), and before I even had the x-ray thingy out of my mouth the dentist was already there to check my teeth. The dentist took the time to explain what she was seeing, and the hygienist, Jessie, was very nice and expertly (and painlessly) cleaned and flossed my teeth and got me out of there in no time. My son was seen by him for a routine check-up. He has had minimal issues with his teeth and maybe one or two fillings. He left there with a treatment plan stating he had 9 cavities which would cost over $2,000. I, of course, got a 2nd opinion from a family friend. Not the case AT ALL! He maybe has a small cavity that needs filling and that's it. Very disappointed how he tried to scam us and drill into my sons mouth! Not cool at all! read more

I have been searching for a dentist for years and finally a friend recommended Dr Lans. The minute I walked through the door I knew I had found my dentist forever. The waiting room larger than most, bright, clean, has a TV and cold water. Wow I am already sold and I have not spoken to anyone. It is a very pleasant looking office when you walk in, both the decor and the people. Before I could reach the counter kelly was already checking me in and presenting me with a gift because it was my first visit. I was early for my appointment so I had a chance to talk to Stacy and Stephanie as well. The entire front end staff is very friendly and eager to have a conversation with you. At exactly 0900 hrs I was greeted by my hygienist, Elizabeth, who walked me back to the treatment area. She was very friendly as well and had only been with Dr Lans a few weeks. Never the less she took the time to explain what she would do. She performed a detail charting of my teeth and the preceded to give the best cleaning I have received maybe ever. I was amazed at how good she was to be so new. When she was done I could feel where the tarter had been removed and the teeth felt clean. She accomplished this with very little pain and a great chair-side manner. I liked the different scenes in each treatment room, nice touch. When she was done Dr Lans gave me a checkup and a thorough explanation of the condition of my teeth. I was told what was needed and we set up an appointment to address the issues. The checkout desk is located in a separate area away from the treatment rooms and the waiting room. I really liked this. You would be surprised how many dentists have the check-in and check-out together and usually in the waiting room. A little privacy is appreciated. I am a person that likes organization and this office is organized. It starts with making an appointment, on time appointments, complete explanations to a speedy and courteous checkout. I am a patient for life and will recommend Dr Lans to anyone who is looking for a dentist. This is a top notch operation. Can't wait to come back :-) read more

I went there for a small cavity. They didnt numb me properly and I felt it. They tried it again, I still felt it! It took 3 times until they numbed me properly. Then I was still in pain for 2 weeks later. I went back, saw another dentist (the main one. Dr. Lans) He couldn't figure out why I still have pain!! Now I need to find a new dentist to fix what they messed up :( read more

I have been a customer of Dr Lans for over 20 years and have never had a problem until recently. Their service has definitely changed over the years to being very inflexible and less customer focused. Make sure that you have them pre-authorize ANY procedure or you will end up paying for services that your insurance company does not cover because they "assume" it is covered. read more
