This review is for orthodontics services for my child that started in November 2024. I have dental insurance and was quoted a price factoring in the insurance reimbursement. They attempted to file a claim with the insurer in November, then nothing showed up. I called several times with the typical back and forth. In March 2025, we finally got them to file a claim both digitally and in the mail to the insurer. Still nothing as of May 2025. Now, I am with a new employer and new plan with a different insurer. Technically, the contract I signed states I will have to pay the full amount regardless, but I am feeling very upset that the billing customer service team is not proactive in helping customers process claims effectively. I am now planning on just paying it out and eating the cost because of this issue. Either way, I will probably not be sending anyone else to this organization anytime soon. On a side note, the treatment plan we have included self-scans of my child's teeth and no in office appointments. So far, it's going OK but you'd think it would be a cheaper option. Not so much. My wife just went to another orthodontist office locally and was able to get a full service invisalign package for less cost and more care. Not sure what happened to NOVA Orthodontics but they used to be the best in the area. read more

This is most horrible experiences that I have experienced in any form of services. They "look" very nice with nice office and free Starbucks and free snacks, but don't be fooled! Here are my experiences: - I was falsely informed that my insurance would cover the costs. I asked before starting the treatment, if my insurance would cover it and was told that I have a good policy compare to others and wouldn't have any issues. Later I found out, my insurance doesn't cover the treatment and the insurance agent told me they submitted the paperwork a couple months later of my treatment started day. - I called MULTIPLE times to find out the status and they don't give you a call back regarding my billing. Everytime I leave a message to the receptionist and I'm told that someone would give me a call back, but 9 out of 10 time, I don't get any call back. They don't even respond to my email. Still waiting to hear back on my billing. read more

I never write reviews but I had to for this office: Simple/easy treatment, TERRIBLE customer service/response times with NO path to getting my final retainers yet. It has been almost 1.5 months of chasing them down and getting them to respond via email after multiple tries and i STILL don't have my final retainers. I wanted invisalign strictly for cosmetic reasons as I've already had braces in the past. I was recommended to use Smile Express, which was their accelerated/short invisalign program. The actual treatment was simple (they do one appointment and then give you 20 trays). I asked them when I first started if I would still be able to complete treatment if I had to leave the NOVA area before 20 weeks and they said it was fine since they had multiple offices. Before I left the area, I called again to confirm I would still be able to get my final retainers and the rep said that I could use my final week's tray as a "mold" for my final retainers since I wouldn't be in Nova any longer. When I emailed again about getting my final retainers, they asked about if i went to another office to get debanded, as if I had regular braces. I told them I had invisalign so no need to be debanded (this was a little irritating to me bc they looked at my chart and got my treatment mixed up?). What followed next is 1.5 MONTHS of sending emails, them not responding, sending up follow-up emails 4-5 days later, and the cycle continues. They then told me I couldn't get final retainers without a final appointment (despite my confirmation multiple times), told me they could sign me up at a local Smile Doctors office to get the final appointment, then tell me there's no Smile Doctors office in my state, then tell me they'll reach out to their invisalign team, then haven't heard from them since. To me, it's extremely unprofessional to lure me into sign up and assure me I can complete treatment, then have me basically waste thousands of dollars bc these changes won't be permanent without permanent retainers. I am extremely frustrated with the lack of urgency in which they're operating. They don't seem to care that I won't be getting the permanent retainers since they already got my money. I truly hate to leave a bad review for a local business but I'd like to warn off any future customers. I bought replacement retainers ($500) in September 2021 and never recieved them. I have consistently followed up to receive said retainers and no one within the NOVA office has actually been able to identify why they've never been sent. The company focuses on selling invisalign services so much and the actual service you get is quite lackluster for the price ($5,000). When I first went to get the invisalign treatment, their employees tried to pressure me to buy the treatment day of. They also promised a Yeti bag which I never received at the end of my service. I did enjoy the treatment and results but this office has been unprofessional more than a handful of occasions. My daughter has been a patient here for the better part of this year. We have dealt with visits during Covid and understand the measures in place to protect everyone that visits NVO. We have never had an issue with them accommodating our request to accompany our daughter (a minor) during her exams. That said, this week I was met with strong resistance from a very unpleasant employee, Melissa. She called my daughter to come back for her appointment and I proceeded to stand and join her like I had done every other visit. She gave me the schpiel about asking parents to wait, but I explained to her that I have always accompanied my daughter during her appointments. Melissa proceeded to tell me that the room has children with their masks off and per Covid guidance, I could not join my daughter. I then explained to her that I had in fact joined my daughter the last time she was there, in that room, and wore a mask. She again said that was not their policy (huh? I was just there 8 weeks ago, with more stringent Covid policies in the area, but I digress). I asked if we could get a room then for my daughter to which she said that they were reserved for adults. Odd, b/c my appointment prior to the last one was in a room. Sigh. So I explained that she was not going to go back without a parent, she's a minor, and I have been with her at every appointment so far, so I was not going to believe that I was not allowed to be with my daughter. She asked for a moment, disappeared, then somehow was able to find an empty room among the empty rooms in the back for our appointment. First, my child is a minor. I have every right to accompany her to her appointments. Second, I paid a lot for her treatment and I should be allowed to join her for her appointments, as the paying party. Third, the speed of my daughter's appointment and the lack of any interaction with me, the parent, during the appointment, was completely unprofessional. Fourth, this made me remember seeing Melissa while waiting for a previous appointment, talking to another mother about her son's lack of proper orthodontic care, in the most condescending tone. Lastly, I made sure the sweet desk woman made a note that all future appointments for my daughter WILL have a parent joining her, so prepare yourselves now. Ultimately, I vote for businesses with my dollars. My daughter will finish her treatment here, but my other children will receive their orthodontic care elsewhere. read more

1 star is being polite. This is the first review I have ever left. If you don't want to read til the end, just know these people are very dishonest. Please listen to other reviews on here, they are accurate to my experience. For starters, if you would like to be overcharged for invisalign, then sign up with this place. Second, within the first year of starting my Invisalign treatment, the owner himself told me I wouldn't need to wear a rubber band with my Invisalign which contradicted what his other two doctors (Dr Cole and Dr Robb) had said. Thought that was weird but let it go because I was happy with the other doctors I had seen there. Dr Robb said they would keep ordering invisalign until the shifting of the teeth got better. Well, over the last few years they have had doctors leave and new offices open. I stopped seeing Dr Robb at checkups, I'm assuming because with what doctors they did have, she had to go to other offices. After around 2 years of treatment, I saw Dr Barcoma and she said there was nothing else they could do, the shifting would not get significantly better unless I wore rubber band full time (I thought I didn't need to wear the rubber band?). I had paid for Vivera retainers, which they claimed insurance does not cover. Come to a checkup in the Reston office, and I tell them something does not feel right or look right with my bite. They bring in a "doctor" I had never seen before and she sat there for probably 20 minutes telling me that there was nothing wrong and my teeth look good. She pulls up the photo scan of my teeth before and after and asks me if I see any issues. Yes, you read that right, she's asking the customer to do her work for her. I asked her if I could see a doctor. She said she is the doctor. After awhile of her staring at the photos and looking at my teeth, and saying nonstop that she sees no issue, she says that my bite has started to get deeper again and that is probably what I am noticing. She proceeds to tell me if I want to pay for treatment again, they are more than happy to accommodate 9 month treatment. So let me get this straight - I have to pay thousands again (when I already spent thousands) to treat something that you did not do correct the first time? Okay, humor me, how much would it cost? They bring in someone to do an estimate, she tells me if I pay up front that it would be around $1500 for 12 month, if I pay in increments it would be around $2500. Why the big price difference from what I originally paid? I questioned the 12 month when I just was told 9 month, she gave me an excuse it takes time for the invisalign to come in. I tell her my insurance that will cover up to $2000. She said that I had already used my insurance discount up. The front desk never saved my new insurance information so when she gave me the quote, she went based off of my old insurance. Since I have new insurance, I would have qualified for a discount of $2000. She had a look on her face like she just made a mistake. She told me she would email me the quote. I called several times and requested for her to put the quote in email, no response. They call me back WEEKS later and leave a voicemail, tell me they need my new insurance. Wanna know why? So they can see that I DO qualify for the $2000 and change the quote. When they know your insurance covers, they love to up charge you. I went to another orthodontist in the area and decide to go with them. We are going on a MONTH and between myself and the new orthodontist calling and emailing several times, NO RESPONSE or we just get EXCUSES to send transfer paper and scan ID. Don't even get me started on what I've been through to get the scan ID. They claim they cannot give the information to me and can only give it to a provider, yet when the provider asks for it they will not give it to them either. They got to the point where they stopped answering the phone when I called. Apparently the staff (Tish) needs to be educated that signing and sending a form should take minutes, not MONTHS. I don't know why this is so difficult. Have I seen a little improvement since treatment with them? Yes. However given the significant amount of money I have had to pay and my teeth are still messed up, plus the lies and hassle. read more

I had a really negative experience here with an Invisalign retainer. I called ahead and asked about the Invisalign retainer. They told me that it came in a pack of three. Then when it went into the office, they told me that I would only be getting one set. If I wanted more, I would have to pay for the lifetime package. I told them that I was previously told by their office and by Invisalign that it came in a pack of three and again they said no, I would have to buy the lifetime package. I went ahead with the lifetime package. I also asked them to submit a claim for my retainer. They kept telling me that insurance typically does not cover retainers and I kept assuring them that mine does. I had a retainer in the past that my insurance covered, and I called and confirmed that they would still cover it and they said yes. The office manager finally agreed to send in the claim to the insurance. This was in January. It is September and my insurance still has not received the claim. I also called around to several orthodontists after this visit and they all provided Invisalign retainers in packs of 3 for wayyyyyy less than this office. I do not recommend Northern Virginia Orthodontists. It feels like all they care about is selling and not the actual people. read more

Still THREE STARS. After reading your response to my post, I located your proposed treatment plan in my records. Since you mentioned posting it to this site, I've gone ahead and done so in the interest of transparency. I did redact a few pieces of PII. I do find it troubling it even crossed your mind to release any portion of my daughter's records to the general public to refute aspects of a THREE STAR Yelp review. I find your response to my initial post somewhat disingenuous, as your proposed treatment fee is clearly listed as: $6,680. It was only if we immediately succumbed to the car salesman pressure to pay 100% up front that we would have been able to receive the "less than $5,700" price you referenced in your response. As you can see from my notes I had various questions about the financing options, and how our insurance played into that. Additionally, as you can see from my notes, I was curious what would happen if we paid 100% up front, and then moved before the treatment plan was complete. I admire your conviction in standing behind your treatment recommendation, and perhaps we'll seek a third opinion, but make no mistake here, your initial cost for treatment was $6,680. We exercised our rights as consumers and shopped elsewhere. Not only did we obtain a dissenting opinion, but we found a better price. I am sorry you do not feel this is a fair review, but that's how we saw it. So I am ALMOST done with my treatment here at NVO. I am pretty much wearing the last two sets of trays to keep my teeth aligned until I get my implant (I was missing a permanent tooth from when I was born and the baby tooth finally fell out) from an oral surgeon in. Although I am not 100% done I am pretty happy with the results so far. My smile looks so much better than it did. There is still one tooth that I think needs a little more movement which I am hoping looks great after these last two trays. Dr. Casagrande assured me if I wasn't happy with it to call and he would do another scan of my teeth for another refinement to make sure I was happy. Once I have the implant done I will go back for my final retainer. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Casagrande's practice. I loved the office, the staff, the process. Every employee was nice 100% of time. I certainly would recommend NVO! I imagine Dr. Casagrande will still have business from my family in the future if my kids are like me and have crooked teeth. I don't think I would even consider any other orthodontist for my kids when they are at the age of needing an orthodontist. read more

Im a military wife so We move a lot, I can say I have lot of experience with Drs all over Usa, I had braces Before but this office is the best, Dr Barcoma takes care of me and my kid, all the staff is so nice attentive and EDDIE! (Dental assistant) is my favorite from all, he is the tipe of guy who explains EVERYTHING, offers the best for your needs and so cool with my kid. There you have it. I came here about 10 years ago for treatment when it was just Dr. C. With the addition and expansion of the business the customer service has progressively gotten worse. I was excited to bring my kid for treatment about 3 years ago, but the practice has consistently messed up the schedule, forgotten about scheduling services the orthodontist recommended resulting in us showing up and then having to reschedule again to come back, LONG wait times - I'm talking an hour+ in some instances for a 15 min appointment. I have a 2nd kid and I don't think we'll be coming back for treatment which kind of sucks because I really did like this place. I think it's just gotten to be too big and Dr. C is never really there anymore. It is literally like a straightening teeth factory now.. the amount of people in and out is nuts so it's no wonder the customer service and personability is having trouble keeping up. Pre-2015 I would give NVO 5 stars. Post 2018- 2 stars. So here we are somewhere in between... but getting worse. I hope they get back to their roots bc I would like to bring my 2nd kid here.... but I also don't know if I can stomach all the waiting and feeling like my kid is just another #/patient these days. Examples of current incidents : - Scheduled my kid to pick up the new retainer we were told we were getting... we showed up... waited a LONG time (as of usual lately) and then they told us they had forgotten to do scans the previous appointment so we needed to come back and get those before they could order the retainer...(what? I thought we were picking up the retainer and you did everything you needed for it the last appointment?) - but also... you can't do the scans now? Nope - no time they said. They didn't realize there was an issue until our appointment when they looked at my kid's chart, after making us wait. So we had to make another appointment, come back, wait again, do the scans, come back again to pick up the retainer. - Came for my kid's check up one time (within the last 2 years), the front desk lady greeted me and asked for our name. I told her, she said she'd check us in and they'd be right with me. 30 minutes goes by, we're still sitting there (I expect this by now). Then I get a call on my cellphone, the caller ID is NVO... I glance over at the front desk lady who is definitely calling me.... then I said hello - she looks at me, then hangs up and I hear a click on the other end of the phone. Weird... .then I look over and asked "Did you just call me?" at which point she did acknowledge it.. and blamed it on some technical issue.... (again, too many people in and out, she couldn't remember who we were and forgot to check us in I guess) - but also - why did you just hang up on me - I can see the caller ID - Waiting the waiting room 30+ minutes most appointments - Once taken back and after having the assistants work on your teeth, 30+ minutes waiting for an orthodontist coming to check on their work/your teeth - Never knowing what orthodontist you are actually seeing until you get there Pros - The actual orthodontists are all very nice - Starbucks is a cool perk - Treatment result was great - Facilities are clean and nice read more

Easily the most high-pressure sales pitch/tactics I've seen when dealing with medical service providers. My son is 8 and prior to completed X-rays, and with no actual examination, they tried to close me on the multi-year, multi-phase treatments. The office is great...easily the nicest dentist/medical office I've ever seen, but it's part of the sales pitch. My insurance questions were swept right under the rug and we were given no time to work things out before being pressured into signing their contract. I cannot speak to the actual treatment they provide, but the high-pressure sales environment leaves much to be desired. I'm actually happy the insurance clarity will take time...we can check out a few other places, pricing, and select one that provides great treatment...ultimately its about the treatment and not the nice office. If pressured to sign during the initial appointment, don't...if you feel forced...go home and think for 15 minutes...call them on the phone and cancel the contract later the same day and weigh out your options. read more

I saw an open house orthodontist office in Ashburn Advertising their services. I was given an appointment to meet Casagrande. I showed up to their Reston office and they told me the dentist is not there. They told me that another dentist will see me. I was ok with it. I waited for 15 min then they asked me to pay 200$ upfront WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING THE TREATMENT OR COST ... if this is not greed at the highest level, I don't know what else can be said? read more

Have you ever been afraid to see the orthodontist? Have they ever told you that you weren't the right candidate for invislign? Then maybe you should visit Dr. Casagrande at Northern Virginia Orthodontics, and be prepared to have one of the best healthcare experiences ever. These guys deserve 6 stars out of 5. Seriously, this guy and his team are good. Did you know that Dr. Casagrande is one of the leading invislign providers in the world? I think he's actually in the top 1% in the country!! I saw just as many adults in his office as I did kids, and everyone seemed to be all smiles. I went in because I had some crowding in my lower front teeth, and I was experiencing some pain im my jaw from TMJ. I thought maybe I could get a retainer to straighten my teeth out. After I went in, they took a lot of pictures and did some complex x-rays of my mouth. Then, they pulled up a computer program that simulated how my teeth COULD look if I decided to pursue Invisilign. I was amazed. I had gone in thinking that there were just some minor issues, and was shown that my smile could be improved tenfold, not to mention they would fix my overbite and protect my front teeth from grinding at night. I decided to do the invislign and had a fantastic experience with amazing results. The whole treatment was actually very affordable, and was one of the best investments I've ever made. All of my teeth are now perfectly straight, and I get compliments on my smile often. The experience was so much less painful than what I've heard it can be with braces. Dr. Casagrande and his team really know what they're doing, and they take the time and care to make sure your smile ends up PERFECT. An added bonus is that you can whiten your teeth with the invisilign trays, and they also serve as a mouth guard to protect your teeth from grinding at night. Northern Virginia Orthodontics are so good they can take patients that are often turned down at other orthodontists. I had my father come in to see them after he was routinely told by other orthodontists that he would need some major work that could only involve braces. It's been around five months since that first visit, and he's now happily wearing invisilign and showing tremedous progress. The ENTIRE staff at Northern Virginia Orthodontics is talented, smart, genuine, and as nice as can be. They really get to know you, and are genuinely happy each time you come in. I found myself actually looking forward to all of my appointments, and sad when it was time to leave. In the hustle and bustle of today's world, it's rare you get treated with as much genuine kindness as you do here. This is exactly how a healthcare provider should be. I've finished my Invisalign treatment in 7 months. I'm super happy with the result! My previous review has all the details of using Invisalign so this will be an update of the overall experience. NoVa Orthodontics is separated into 2 sections. The front where you check in on the computer is where the kids wait. For Invisalign, you check in and then walk straight back to a separate waiting area which is light, bright and minimalist clean. They have magazines and coffee if you'd like during your wait. This was much appreciated especially as an adult so it isn't so uncomfortable waiting in the same area as all the kids. Once I had my Invisalign, I would come in every few weeks or so for a check up to see how things were progressing. I followed the directions and kept them in all the time except when I was eating, so my teeth moved faster than was the original plan. They estimated a year at first, and then I showed up one day and they said I was done! Then they gave me a bottle of champagne to celebrate- yay! When I came back to pick up my permanent retainers, the office gave me whitening gel. You get 4 sets of permanent retainers, and if you need more, you order directly from Invisalign. I was so relieved to hear this, because this is how I ended up needing my teeth straightened again as an adult because previously, I had 1 set when I was younger and once they got lost or damaged I was out of luck. My only minor complaint (Which I'm sure their staff won't appreciate) would be I wish they had later hours or some Saturday appointments for working adults on Invisalign. Luckily, I work close and could come at lunch sometimes, but finding later appointments was definitely a challenge. Other than that, my overall experience was a positive one and I'm super glad I did it! read more

It's important to me that the families whose kids I teach get their children the best health care possible - and in NVO they are getting that and more: in a too busy, too impersonal world, patients are treated as family in "Casa Casagrande" - orthodontists remember kids' soccer scores, TCs recall seniors' specific college aspirations, the front desk will ask if the math grade is still coming up... These pros remember personal details because they choose to - and because they care! As professional as NVO is - and you will not get better ortho/invisalign treatment anywhere else in the East - every single NVO individual {from Jenn and Nicole and Casey behind the scenes and in front of their patients to Lisa and Jill and Jess and the rest in the trenches one-on-one with their charges} is determined to get their patients the best treatment plan imaginable and the best ortho care to go with it. This office is located near our house where we used to live in Ashburn, so my son got braces at this office a few years ago. He needed what it seems like a lot of work, there was an impacted tooth and another tooth that was missing. Dr. Casagrande was able to sort all that out and my son got a good result from the treatment. Overall it was a good experience and everyone who worked on my son's teeth was always very friendly. Unfortunately, we could not come in for follow up visits as we moved far away prior to treatment being complete, and had to come back for at least one more appointment that we could not skip. Since it is such a long drive we decided to forego further check ups that were offered. I have never been to any other orthodontist, so I cannot compare, but this was overall a good experience. read more

After about 2 years, my son is getting his braces off!! We had such a good experience that I wanted to share. When we first came in, I was skeptical that such a beautiful, well-staffed office (with a free Starbucks bar inside!) would offer affordable braces. But, Nova Ortho provided the fee schedule and we checked with our dental insurance and it was comparable to the other Orthos we consulted in the area. But, the best part was how friendly, welcoming and patient everyone was with our questions and difficulties scheduling with a school and hockey schedule. The technicians are fun and interesting to talk to. I'm really going to miss them. Sometimes their upbeat and friendly natures were just the thing we needed to change the trajectory of our day. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone. It would be my first choice, if we had to do this again. read more

Words can't describe how awesome this place is! Super friendly and fun atmosphere for both adults and kids. The staff here are down to earth and very professional in every aspect. I decided to go with the Propel plan to cut my treatment time in half. They took the time to explain how my treatment will work and answered any concerns that I had going through the process. I never felt uncomfertable one bit and knew I was in the right hands. They also have a Starbucks bar for their patients which sealed the deal for me. I have two kids who needed braces around the same time. After a year of wearing braces, my sons's teeth are looking nice and straight! He now only wears a retainer. I knew this place was special when when left after our first consultation and my son couldn't wait to go back to start treatment. Wow! Was I dreaming? That was almost two years ago, and the practice continues to be one of our most favorite places to go. To begin with, the staff is beyond friendly, super attentive, and get this ... they really seem to love their jobs! From the front desk staff, to the wonderful hygenists (such as Kathy and Susie), our treatment coordinator, Lisa, and of course, Dr. Zach and Dr. Nelson, we honestly feel like family when we walk in the door. The office is high tech and welcoming, and offers a fun room for the kids to play race car games, while the adults get to sit and sip a cup of freshly brewed coffee while enjoying the cool tunes streaming into the waiting area. The experience is so civilized and enjoyable that I secretly wish NVO would be running late once in a while so that I could enjoy it all for a few more minutes. But alas, in the two years we've been visiting NVO, they have always taken us on time. Drats! From a technical perspective, Dr. Zach and his staff are at the top of their game. They have reduced my son's overbite from dramatic to non-existant. The change in his school pictures from 2nd to 3rd grade was remarkable thanks to NVO. I was so thrilled to see my son feeling happy and confident with his smile that I could have cried. Everyone has commented on the beautiful change, and our pediatric dentist even told us what a fantastic job Dr. Zach had done with my son's teeth. And if this practice couldn't be any better, they are also strongly committed to community service and serving those in need. NVO is a role model for how businesses should use their clout and reach to do good for others. The team is constantly out on the weekends and after hours to support local charities, schools, fundraisers, and in particular, causes that help children. I only wish that all businesses could show this kind of leadership in the community. And while there are scores of other orthodontic practices much closer to our home, we drive over 30 minutes to get to NVO because they are so special. We have referred numerous other friends nearby who are thrilled with NVO and happily make the same drive. So, if you are looking for an orthodontist and want the best of the best, you won't find anyone better than Dr. Zach and NVO. I just don't know if I have ever had a better customer service experience than at Dr. Casagrande's office. You know I don't think I have! The office is lovely and always busy but I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes. And during that 5 minutes there is plenty to occupy you. You can get a cup of keurig coffee (with GOOD creamers!), surf the internet or check email at the computer bar or play video games in the game room with your child (my personal favorite). The staff is so professional and so friendly, they all seem to sincerely like their jobs. It's a casual environment and most of the staff knows you by name by the second or third visit. Doctor Casagrande has a terrific chair-side manner and always engages my kids in conversation. He remember what sports they play and their interests. He is just a good guy all the way around. As far as the orthodontic care, they are very thorough in evaluating treatment and explaining it to you. I just looked through my sons photo history and WOW they have done an amazing job with his teeth! If I sound like an advertisement for Dr. C and his office, it is rightly deserved. I cannot say enough amazing things about this place! Every single person you come in contact with is SO friendly & ALWAYS smiling! I went in for a consultation for Invisalign & signed up for treatment the same day. I am seriously in such a happy mood every time I go there simply because of the people (& maybe the free Starbucks drinks they give too :] is that awesome or what) they are so great! My first time there they gave me a tour, explained every single thing to me & just made me feel so relaxed. My Invisalign trays came in super quick & they gave me a cute little bag full of items that have been so helpful! I've been in for one other appointment since then to get my "buttons" on & again they were great - so laid back, friendly & so helpful making sure if there was anything I needed.
