I've been a long‑time patient because Dr. Reeves provides excellent care. Unfortunately, the front‑office experience has changed dramatically. Saturday hours vanished, weekday hours are difficult for anyone with a full‑time job, and the new text‑based communication feels dismissive rather than supportive. Asking about weekend availability shouldn't trigger messages suggesting they "update my records" if I'm no longer interested in being a patient. This practice has strong clinical talent, but the customer service side needs immediate attention. Other reviews on YELP in the last couple of years seem to mirror my disappointment. ALSO, they may wish to remove the snarky, outdated and frankly cringe‑y "...we cater to cowards..." wording in their brochures and on their waiting room tables. It's just unnecessary. Major red flags!! Please read before going to this practice! My husband and two daughters had been to this practice and things were mediocre ... until their appointment in April and my first appointment with them in June. The new dentists we saw were no longer in-network and we were charged out-of-network costs. Aetna was amazing and did a one-time exception to change those visits to in-network. We had already paid our bill in full, so when First Impressions Dental received the check from Aetna you would think they would reimburse me the amount I had already paid. Nope! Not only did they not get the refund process started (I had to call twice), they claimed we still had a balance. This so-called balance was for "hospitality and in-office write-offs". One was from 2023. Interesting how this popped up out of nowhere two years later... hmm. They cashed the insurance check and instead of paying us back what insurance says we were owed, they're taking back all hospitality and write-offs and returning SOME of the insurance check. Basically being vindictive and taking money from an insurance check to pay themselves back. I've filed an official complaint with Aetna and will update this review once the complaint process with insurance is completed. read more

Avoid this dentists office !! 1. Constant sales pitches !!!! High pressure to get Invisalign with them. Even repeatedly calling to follow up on when I want to start that treatment. 2. Told me I needed a crown replaced that I was having no issues with. The estimate they provided was far exceeded ($1,000 more!). It was too late since I'd already had it done. Worse than that , the work was terrible. The new permanent crown was put in with too much cement so it didn't lay correctly. I had to come back and have it removed (drilling and shots all over again.) Then it was placed again but is still not lying right and bothers me now when it never was an issue to begin with. 3. After being a patient for years Dr Reeves suddenly is out of network but no one mentioned this to me before scheduling my cleaning with him. The first time this happened they didn't charge me the extra amount and I made it clear I wanted to be seen by the dentist that does accept my insurance. Again, at my last cleaning Dr Reeves comes in. I thought perhaps he was in network again. I then received a bill for my cleaning. After weeks of back and forth I was told that I must pay the amount and that waving it last time was a courtesy to me rather than a mistake by them. read more

I was referred to this dental office by the VA for community care, and in all my years of dental treatment, my goodness...I've never met someone who cares about my oral health more than Dr Reeves and the First Impression team. We are talking top notch professionals, with all the latest dental care tech. They took photos of everything to submit to the VA, and created a care plan that not only took care of my needs, but corrected several issues from years of active duty service dental care. We are talking a huge overhaul to fix up years of issues. I cannot recommend this office enough. Simply the best I've ever experienced. I cannot believe some of the reviews I see here. Civilians sometimes just have no clue what good service is, because they don't have experience, like us vets, as to what horrible care actually looks like. You can't go wrong with this office. I so wanted to believe that this practice was on the up and up but the following scenario happened several times so I feel it is my duty to share. My issue is that First Impression dental practice has fraudulently submitted charges to our insurance provider for services that were not actually performed. This wasn't a single instance but multiple times despite it being brought to their attention. Second, they have horrible attrition with their hygienists. In 7 years I think I had the same hygienist maybe twice. I think that speaks to something being off with the management. Good luck if you decide to proceed with them as your dentist. I have had reservations about this office a few times and ignored my intuition. I was originally told I needed Invisalign. I went to an actual orthodontist and he said I don't need anything done to my teeth; he could have have taken full advantage of the situation and gotten me braces. I should have left this office then. I was also trying to be sold on their electric toothbrushes, which I declined. Today I was told all of a sudden I need antibiotics shoved in my gums. I politely tried to explain that I wanted a second opinion on this and was blatently ignored. The dentist and hygenist were pushing it so hard and giving me severe anxiety and stress. I wanted to do some research and ask more questions because I had never heard of this. Then the receptionist came in and said "sign the consent form for the antibiotics". I felt like I had no choice so I signed it, then it said I owed $255. No one told me how much it was and she was requiring me to pay her while I am still in the chair and the hygenist had not even finished cleaning my teeth! She was hovering over me like she needed the $255 right then like it was an emergency. This is not right, so I grabbed my purse and left. I have never felt so disrespected at a medical facility. Also, why was there a random dog wandering around? This is not sanitary at all. The dog could have licked something that was going in my mouth. The dog did not have any type of service animal or emotional support animal vest on. What if I was allergic or terrified of animals? It was under the exam chair the whole time which stressed me out even more. This place just wants to be a cash cow and completely disrespects people's concerns. Terrible experience during a relatively short lasting encounter with this so-called dental practice. As a result, I lost my healthy second molar (#18) and now facing thousands of dollars for an implant. I moved to this area recently and identified this dental practice reviewing Google reviews which appear to be not reliable. During my very first new patient visit, I was told that I needed crowns for my three (3) teeth. I asked for a predetermination as I have Delta Dental insurance with a plan that offers excellent coverage and was told that it takes too long and would not come in on time before the crown work starts. It appears though they did submit, without informing me, a predetermination for only one of the 3 teeth! That was the one that was paid for by the insurance company while insurance payments for the other two teeth for the crown work was declined indicating that those teeth did not need a crown!!!!! This should tell us something. After the initial visit when all my three (3) teeth were prepared for the crown and were fitted with temporaries, I developed constant pain for #18 which is a second molar. I had a follow up visit which did not help with the pain. During my communication with the dentist, he stated that that tooth now was class 2 mobile (which meant that the tooth got damaged during the crown preparation and was essentially doomed and would have to be extracted). I should also mention that I had no complaint for any of the 3 teeth prior to visiting this dental practice. Even though that one tooth (#18) was mobile, they still placed the crown on it. Shortly after that I had infection and went through hellish pain associated with that same tooth. They offered to perform root canal therapy for a class 2 or more mobile tooth which is essentially not living as a result of infection: hard to believe is it not? During all this time and as a result of losing my confidence with this practice, I asked for referral to an endodontist first who confirmed that the tooth was dead, next a periodontist who confirmed that the tooth was in fact class 3 or more mobile (meaning it is in a much worse state) and then an oral surgeon. This dental practice told me, over an over again, that specialists in this area do not accept insurance and they could do what is needed including root canal, perio work, and extraction followed by implant. It is certainly not true that specialist dentists do not accept insurance in this area. I was shocked to discover that I was lied outright by this practice so that they would do all the specialist work although they are general dentists. read more

I was there for my Dental needs and I was made to sit for 40 mins before being told I should provide my SSN or no service. I did convey I am not comfortable providing it when I made the appointment over phone and when providing Insurance details. The reason been told for SSN is that some people are not paying so SSN will be a good way to catch. I gave them my drivers license and told them to catch me with it if I don't pay. I did not find any other dental facility denying service for not providing SSN, I think its got to do with my color. As I lost my service, they lost my business. Great First Impression. read more

Based off the amazing reviews, I came here (initially) looking to get a night guard because I read online that they used the digital impressions. I had a dentist I liked in Bailey's Crossroads but he didn't have digital impressions. However, I have completely changed dentists and only go to Dr. Reeves now. Not only is the location incredibly convenient, everyone at this office is awesome. From the hygienists to the assistants, to the girls in the office and Dr. Reeves - everyone is amazing. They have digital x-rays, the machine that moves around your mouth to take an x-ray and the regular ones. The digital impressions is a wand that they use in your mouth to capture the impression and it comes right up on the screen. Dr. Reeves and Ryan (his assistant) explain what they're doing step-by-step and use analogies that make it easier for you to understand. So far, I've had a cleaning with x-rays, a digital impression, a crown replaced, and most recently, a root canal. Dr. Reeves is really good at giving the novicane injection as well as everything else throughout the course of the treatment. They offer pillows, blankets, headphones, Netflix, etc. They also have very convenient hours. They try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. They also explained my coverage and what I would owe out of pocket before my appointment. I recommended this practice to my husband and will recommend it to others as well. LOVE Dr. Carter Reeves. So I had my two children at another practice that specializes in kids. My husband came back and told me my daughter had two cavities and the other dentist wanted to put her to sleep to fill them as "children are wiggly." Putting my daughter to sleep for surface cavities was not an option for me. So I decided to give Dr. Reeves a try for a second opinion. I was so HAPPY I did. I was familiar with Dr. Carter Reeves as his father was my dentist for over 30 years! I was excited to see that Dr. Carter chose to open his practice in Ashburn. At the initial consult he reassured me that he would not use anasthesia on my daughter. They don't use the word "shot" in front of kids and they interact and make up games with kids. I decided to go ahead and give him a try. When I went in to have my daughter's fillings done he looked in her mouth and didn't see any cavities. I brought the X-rays that the other dentist took with me. He said they weren't very clear x-rays as they weren't the digital copy of it. So he took his own to make sure he got the right teeth. He even took them with two different machines and didn't see them. So turns out she didn't have cavities or if they were they were so minor that she was able to correct them with extra good brushing. So he just saved my daughter from having to go through fillings that she didn't need. To think the other dentist wanted to my daughter to sleep for cavities that minor?!? Dr. Carter Reeves has a great bedside manner. He was wonderful with my 5 year old daughter and showed her some of the tools he used. He told her he was going to give her a "tooth shower" and we were going to shower her teeth to get rid of the cavities while showing her the tool that sprays water. My daughter thought it was fun. He interacted with her well! I was impressed. He took my nervous daughter and made her feel comfortable. She even asked me if Dr. Carter was her new dentist after we left. Also, she was able to watch her favorite Netflix shows while sitting in the dental chair. All of his office staff was friendly and great with kids! Dr. Carter's wife Liz is even the office manager. Dr. Carter talks to you as if you are human and isn't trying to push unneeded extra services. Glad to find a dentist who is not a "gangsta" and such as the one we saw before that wanted fill my daughters teeth that didn't need them just to inflate his bank account. Dr. Carter is top notch! I found First Impression (FI) Dental because I was tired of having my appointments rescheduled by my old Dentist every six months. I am very happy I chose to come to FI. They are very friendly, and explained everything to a T. Knowledge is power, which enables better decision making. I was also super impressed with how much cutting edge tech they use in their office. I'm a skeptic of dentists. They can tell you they see a cavity, or need a deep gum cleaning, or have a cracked tooth, or...the list goes on. And unless you're in pain, how would you know any different? So, I put off going to the dentist for the past year and half because I just didn't want to deal with searching for "the one." After bookmarking various dentists on Yelp, I finally decided to bit the bullet and pick First Impression. I picked FI because they open at 7am on weekdays. Sweet, I could get my pearls taken care of before heading into work! FI is in the new construction behind the Home Depot on Shellhorn/Loudoun County Parkway where the metro line will be coming (I think so anyway, since its called Loudoun Station.) The office is clean and brand spanking new. Everything here is high tech. The paperwork is filled out electronically and the x-rays are digital (no heavy lead apron to put on!) The really cool part is that they take pictures of all of your teeth which goes in your file. Why is this cool? Well, the dental skeptic I am, I don't believe it when dentists tell me I need anything done. When I saw the pictures of my teeth up on the screen, I actually saw a big pit and missing piece of one of my prior filings. I was staring at it before Dr. Reeves even pointed it out to me. Had that picture not been there, I'll be honest, I'm not sure I would have believed what he told me. Not because he's not trustworthy, he absolutely is...but again, how would I KNOW what he was telling me if I don't feel an issue? Dr. Reeves did an oral cancer screening, which is my secret litmus test of all dentists. If they don't do it, I won't go back. I know someone in her 30's who had half her tongue removed due to tongue cancer and she was never a smoker. Then he measured for any gum recession, polished my teeth, I got the standard "you need to floss more" speech, and then was scheduled to fix up my broken filling. The only minor thing I would ding FI on is that all their forms are digital. That may be a turnoff to some people. I filled out all my paperwork online and then signed them digitally on an ipad when I cam into the office. But, I didn't ask if they had the option of paper forms, so you may want to ask if you prefer paper forms. Other than that? I think I found "the one!" read more

THIS PRACTICE IS AMAZING FOR THOSE WITH DENTAL ANXIETY WOES! All the raving reviews on here about First Impression Dental are true- they really are extraordinary. Like many, I dread the dentist, but I can honestly say that this was the first time in my life it was a pleasant experience and my anxiety was totally under control. Dr. Reeves is very genuine and without ego- he actually said "call me Carter" when we met. Dr. Reeves was extremely thorough. My initial exam and cleaning took 90 minutes and he did the whole thing himself, without a tech. I didn't feel like he was bouncing from patient to patient and then back to me, which has been a problem with some other area practices. He has every up to date technology available, which I love because it shows he's making a real investment in his practice and his patients' health. He explained each image on the screen and what the implications were for my health. And he did an oral cancer screening, which I have never had, and now I wonder why previous dentists don't all do that regularly..... I most appreciated that Dr Reeves didn't try to sell me or force on me the many many things that need to be done to get my smile up to date- he presented me with all of the info and asked for me to prioritize what I wanted to do. Lastly, we scheduled a follow up appointment to go over a road-map- for my mouth. I have never received such personalized, attentive, or sincere treatment. I'm literally excited to begin my dental journey :) I think I will also be bringing my daughter in for her first cleaning- Dr. Reeves seems great with kids and has netflix for nervous adults like me and wiggly children like my daughter. Dr. Reeves and his team are absolutely amazing. I have had numerous issues in the past that have caused me to have quite a lot of anxiety when going even just for a annual cleaning. However, since coming to Dr. Reeves I can say that those fears are gone. He's taken the time to understand the issues that I had as well as making sure when dental procedures are needing to be done he does them with as less stress as possible. When having a cavity filled he has a way that makes the process as painless as possible where as before at previous dentists this did not occur. I would fly from anywhere around the country to come to him for extensive dental work. I haven't been to the dentist in about five years because, well, no one likes going to the dentist. I looked up reviews on Yelp for the best dentists in Ashburn and this one was one of the very few with a five star rating so I decided to give it a try and start with a new patient exam and cleaning. I had such a great experience. I wouldn't go so far as to say that now I love coming to the dentist, but at least now I don't dread it. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth (Abdul) was SO nice and very gentle. Dr. Carter Reeves was great and talks to you like a friend. Unfortunately I had four cavities so the ultimate test of Dr. Reeves was how he would handle them, how the procedure would go and how painless the process would be. I've never had a cavity in my life, and I've gone through childbirth but I was more terrified of getting a cavity filled. Dr. Reeves assured me I'd only feel some pressure and vibrations and no pain. And he did a GREAT job. They first put a numbing gel to start the numbing process. The Novocaine shot is still a small pinch that you can feel, but bearable. After a few minutes he will do a check to make sure you are numb before he starts drilling. I LOVE that a) the process was explained to me before I started and b) that he explained to me everything he was doing as he was going along. You can also watch Netflix during the procedure if you want a distraction! I got two cavities filled this appointment and it took about an hour and it wasn't bad at ALL. To top it off -- they use White Resin Composite as their standard filling for a cavity which is impressive given that a lot of dentists still use that metal stuff which is NOT good. So glad I found a dentist that I like so that now I'm not scared of going for my regular 6 month cleanings! read more

I went to Dr. Carter Reeves for the first time about 2 months ago for a routine cleaning and check up and was extremely impressed! Dr. Reeves made me feel very comfortable right from the start and the office is perfectly clean and welcoming. They have brand new state of the art equipment and technology. You can even watch your favorite Netflix show while in the chair. Since I was way overdue for a dentist visit, I had two cavities upon inspection and needed to be filled. So, I scheduled a follow up visit to take care of the fillings. Dr. Reeves completed the two fillings very quickly and also helped me get a new mouth guard fit. Great, great, great dentist! And great for our kids too! When we weren't able to go to our old dentist anymore, we felt like we wouldn't be able to find another great dentist. Fearing having to go to a standard, cold, uncomfortable, fluorescent sorta dentist office and just cringe through the experience, we were excited when someone told us about First Impression. We were greeted by super friendly folks at the front desk, in an office with tall ceilings and warm decor/design. We filled out forms on a tablet device while the kids played with toys in the lobby. Our daughter watched Netflix while they spoke to her like a human and made her feel as comfortable as possible while they did her cleaning. They let us watch Netflix too during our cleaning too! The hygienist was really calm and professional, and Dr. Reeves was extremely kind to both us and our daughter. I had a great 'first impression' at F.I.D. - 10/10 overall experience! The last major oral surgery I had was as a teenager for two extractions in middle school. I couldn't remember much since I went under, so this visit (now 12+ years later) to F.I.D. to extract two wisdom teeth was a bit anxious for me since I would have local anesthesia and be aware of everything going on. My dentist was Dr. Lam, an enthusiastic doctor my friends and family had highly recommended. He made me feel at ease throughout the entire procedure, announcing each step that he was performing and what to expect. He was very articulate of what he was going to do: application of the numbing gel, anesthesia injection, wedging my tooth, separating the wisdom tooth from the bone, etc. It was comforting to be able to anticipate each step of the procedure. At the end of the procedure, Dr. Lam and the dental hygienist were very thorough in explaining how to care for the wound and gave me some medicine for later in case of pain. The dental hygienist even cleaned my extracted teeth and provided them to me in a nice box! To complete the experience, the receptionist asked about my experience as professionally as she had reviewed the paperwork with me in the beginning. The office was also very clean and well decorated so that was an added plus, not to mention such a professional staff, I could not have had a better experience! read more

What a great experience! From the minute you walk in, the folks at First Impression Dental make you feel welcome. All the paperwork was done efficiently by Liz, and she goes the extra mile to make sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed so the insurance takes care of what they should. Dr. Reeves is extremely attentive to detail, and makes sure you're informed of what's going on while he's working on your teeth. He's not done until you're 150% satisfied; I haven't seen this approach to patient care from a dentist in ages. Needless to say, all the latest, high-tech, dentist toys are there, and used at their full capacity; I saw my mouth in a widescreen monitor, in HDTV. Mindy, Dr. Reeves assistant, takes care of the patients so well, it makes you wonder if you're at a dentist office or at a first class lounge; she's delicate, funny and very professional. Doctor Reeves is the real deal! I've searched for years for a great dentist and he has surpassed all my expectations. I live in in Texas now and still go back to Virginia whenever I need any dental work done or a teeth cleaning. The partnership him and his wife have within their office speaks volumes for his successful business. I love all his staff and feel like I have my own dental family each and every visit. I raved so much about First Impressions Dental that even my parents go to see him now and my dad hadn't been to a dentist in years because of previous bad experiences. So far I am very satisfied with this dental office. Receptionist/insurance claims person Jen is very knowledgeable and friendly. I needed to get some missing Invisalign attachments fixed and the staff agreed to do it without an appointment on that same day. I was pleasantly surprised with the prompt service! Dental hygienist Batul was proficient and he fixed the attachments in no time. Dr. Reeves referenced couple of medical studies when discussing oral hygiene and seemed to be up date with the latest medical studies! Overall this is a great dental office and will be coming for my regular cleanings! read more

This office is fantastic, truly a step above other practices. I made a scheduling over site on the day of my appointment and not only were they overly accommodating to fit me in but they were very thorough, even extending my appointment to perform a quick procedure.
