Fast forward a month later and I get a bill for $90.00. I called my insurance company and they informed me that this office is out of network. Had I known that I would never have come there. This office did not do their due diligence to run the insurance number and call me to say by the way, we are out of network do you still want to come to the office because I would have said no. We just moved to this area and found costa who's really close to our new house. Reviews on google looks fantastic so decided to give them a try. I made regular cleaning appointment for both me and my husband. My appointment was earlier and my experience was ok. I didn't do the x-ray since I'm pregnant and I got the cleaning without an issue. My hygienist recommended several products but I know most time it's their selling method so I passed them. My husband went for his appointment later and his hygienist refused to give him a regular cleaning and he was told that he need a deep cleaning. He has two choices: accept their deep cleaning plan or go home without any cleaning. My husband is a retired veteran and he can get any treatment for free from VA dental clinic if he really need it. He just need a regular cleaning from a clinic near our house but they refused to offer it. Waste of time. I'm regret to check reviews on Yelp so late. I noticed that so many reviews mentioned about their "deep cleaning" trick. I will cancel my following appointment and they will lose us as further customers. read more

So after more than 2 years of going to Costa Dentistry for regular appointments, I got a call today from an employee asking me to confirm my appointment tomorrow at 7am. I told her I was not tracking this appointment as I had a new phone and I wont have a car tomorrow morning so I'm unable to come and asked to move to next week. She immediately said I will be charged $40 for late notice of cancellation and I told her I did not know of the appointment in advance because of my new phone and I should have been reminded at least 48 hours before to actually give me the option to cancel. She rudely responded it was my responsibility to track this and I told her that Costa should have called me before to give me sufficient notice so I can cancel. I was shocked by how short and how rude the person was, so after 2+ years of service and lots of money spent, I asked her to cancel the appointment and I will find another dentist, to which she rudely replied she will send the $40 to collections. I have been going to the Ashburn location since they opened, a little over 10 years ago. At first this was a great practice, there was consistency in the staff and I saw the same dentist and hygienist each visit. Over the years as they have expanded and become more commercialized, they have lost that consistency and personalized service. It now feels like the goal is to get as many patients through as quickly as possible. In the last two years I have seen a different hygienist for each six month visit and a new dentist. Today was the final straw for me. I arrived for my appointment at 4:10 and was called back sometime between 4:15-4:20. It took approximately 7-10 minutes to cover the normal updates to health, meds, etc. I had my cleaning, the dentist saw me, and I was out the door by 4:45. I am all for expediency, but in all my years of having dental cleanings and checkups this may be record timing! The dentist barely introduced herself, asked if I was having any issues, and basically looked in my mouth, and the exam was complete in literally 45 seconds. I am questioning if she is an actual dentist. My decision to leave is really based on the lack of care and attentiveness one should expect from a medical provider. I would never continue to visit a primary care physician who ran a practice like this, so why would a dental practice be any different? I wish I could say awesome things about Costa Dentistry, but right now, with failure to follow up, and help me get the treatment that i need, they fail the "care test" i have for care providers. I went in when one of my fillings fell off, and I was having a tough time eating from one side. I shared the situation with the care provider and the first appointment was just phenomenal, with 3d views of my mouth and promise of a treatment plan. I was thrilled, and was waiting for a treatment plan First Miss, I did not get a plan and had to call them. When I did, I got a story about my insurance not being supported. Well, I'd have loved to hear about that. But I wanted to confirm from insurance. Who immediately confirmed that they do. Now I was confused. The insurer says that I am covered at the dentist, and the dentists say my plan is not supported. Why!!!! Well, devil is in the alphabets. Costa accepts Dental PPO, while my insurance is a DPO (according to the provider). Well what on earth is DPO you say? Glad you asked, it is Dental PPO and that's a term the firm in Texas calls DPO. After much discussion, i figured there must be a way. So I asked if there was. The office, as sweet as always, said that they can send a breakdown of the treatment plan to my insurance provider. That is Awesome, finally a way out. So I agreed to that. A few days (or week) past, and I received the breakdown by mail. Dentists must have it too, right? Well I waited for a few days and called. They didn't seem to have it, Flummoxed, i offered to, and sent the response from the insurance provider. Days past, no action. Still continuing with the original problem, but now I am not sure if I can go to another dentist, since i "Burnt" the 6 month check budget, i thought. And of course, i like the practice for multiple reasons. Well, days and weeks pass again, and I call today. And they politely said that something has been uploaded somewhere. Oh well, here we go again. I asked if there is going to be a medical/dental talk sometime soon. I may have been a little too persistent or maybe my language, boosted by being raised by a bureaucrat, was asking them to take a position on "Will I be or will I not get treatment for the dental problem I came in to start with"? I asked the question a few times, and finally the sweet lady who answered the question had had it. She firmly said "I don't want to keep repeating the same thing ", "I can have a manager, who has already left for home, call you on Monday" or "Schedule you for an emergency session on Monday. I don;'t know the world in which an emergency is taken care of in four days, that must be an interesting world. I am not sure I want to be part of that world. Overall - the dentists and assistants are good, but the process management seems to be right out of a third world government office. Here's me hoping I'll have my teeth taken care of. Maybe its god's will!!! if my teeth continue to pain, then I would not eat as much resulting in much needed weight loss, Maybe that's what they were after all this time? or were they. I first started going to Costa a few years ago. They said my teeth weren't horrible but after a few years of not seeing a dentist, we started with a regimen of scaling and meeting every four months instead of the usual 6. Every visit was encouraging and they showed me how things were improving. So imagine my surprise after a year of visits and continual improvement they told me gravely that I should consider upping my visits to every THREE months. I said no, thanks. Four months later another good report, but then the hygienist came in and tried to upsell me a $14 toothpaste. Her words implied I really needed it, but her face was apologetic. It honestly made me question whether they were overselling me from the very beginning. When my next appointment came up, I canceled it. They lost my trust. It would be 18 months before I went to the dentist again. And that dentist said things looked fine. read more

I went to Costa Dentistry and they suggested I have two crowns put on. I asked them to see what my out of pocket would be so I understood the cost. I paid my fair share of the bill upfront and got the work done. After going back 3 or 4 time the crowns still aren't right and I have trouble eating hard food on that side. Two year later they are sending me another bill stating the insurance didn't cover some of the work. The work was done Dec 2020, and I just got a bill from them Nov. 2022, two years later. When I called to inquire about the billing and how didn't think it was fair to get a bill two year later after they preauthorized the work. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Costa and the entire team during a Yelp event a few months ago. After several procrastination I finally grit my teeth and headed over for my routine cleanup. What an amazing experience! First off, I love how clean the entire office and clinic is. Everything is designed for the best dental experience--ever. From the cozy waiting room to optional Netflix, warm towel, pillow, and wifi at the dental chair, you'll forget that you're at a dentist and feel like being in a spa. The doctors were all honest in their recommendation and were very clear with treatment suggestions. My hygienist was uh-mah-zeeng! She was thorough, gentle, and got even the most stubborn plaque out of my teeth (remember procrastination?) It's satisfying to be taken care of in such a modern, clean facility, complete with the latest technology in dental care, topped with superb customer service. I know every person thinks about their health they don't really consider the their mouth however I have learned how that is important to ensure that you are taking good care of your mouth as well as the rest of your body. Moving into the new year I wanted to ensure that everything was okay with my mouth from a dental perspective so I decided to pick a dental office which is covered under my dental insurance and low and behold I was able to find this place. Honestly there just aren't enough words to describe how pleased I am of the work and professionalism of the people working in this establishment. When I walk in I am always greeted with smiles and everyone is so nice, kind, and patient. I absolutely enjoy my dentist (Stephanie Browning) who is also very nice, kind, patient, and knowledgeable. The visits so far have been seemless and quite invigorating. She walks through and explains everything that is going on and doesn't show any issues doing that. Based on what I have been able to gather from my visits it seems as though she really enjoys the work that she does. I've actually gotten more wordy then I thought so I'll finish this review saying that I think I've picked a good dentist and I'll continue coming back until I otherwise decide not to. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not ever visit this practice. I wanted to love it but unfortunately they are a sham. I went in for periodontal scaling and root planning. They didn't submit the proper documentation to my insurance company so the claim was denied pending more information. After calling the office and asking them to send the documentation to which they agreed and told me not the pay the bills I was repeatedly being sent, all of a sudden I get an email from a collection agency. Let me repeat: They told me they would be in touch with my insurance company to get them the documentation they needed for a covered procedure and told me not to pay the bills coming in the mail until I heard from them. And then they sent the bill to collection. The claim is still pending with my insurance company meaning my insurance company after all these months still hasn't received what they need to process the claim. I have never in my life dealt with such incompetency. This place is terrible. Make sure you spend time reading the reviews online and if you are unlucky enough to land here ask them to submit to your insurance for prior approval before you let them do any work on you. Overall they are a nice and friendly place, but at the end of the day they seem to be more expensive and sale like then a normal dentist office including wanting more oral procedures. Pros - They are very friendly. The staff was nice and kind. The dentist was ok. - They were high tech and had a lot of cool technology which makes the experience enjoyable. (Netflix/movies). Also allow the doctor to broadcast xrays and others. - They did a great job cleaning the teeth. Cons - Seems at times more of a sales person then a doctor office. They offer additional services such as oral cancer screening, florid and other services which I am forgetting. - The price is on the top of the price range. When comparing the quote with my insurance company and after I got a second opinion, the prices were a lot less (about 20-30% in most cases) per a the work requested - I feel they were trying to make a buck and are more willing to have you get an oral procedure that you don't need so that they can make money. I took their quote and brought it in for a 2nd opinion from another dentist which my wife goes to and after seeing the xrays and performing an exam came back with a lot less work that needed to be done. Overall Conclusion: I feel like they were a friendly place but they were more into trying to make a sale then caring for me as a person. They make the experience of going to the dentist nice (I hate dentist) but they are on the top end of the price range and seem to want to make a sale rather then take care of my teeth. read more

Stopped by today to pick up my whitening trays that were gifted to me as part of an event I previously attended. I was definitely greeted upon my arrival by the friendliest ladies at the front desk. After a minimal wait, I was introduced to my trays. I loved the fact that the dental hygienist had me sit down and actually put them in to make sure they were comfortable and fitted properly. She even offered to adjust them if they felt a little off. Saw a horrible hygeniest that gave my son over twenty canker sores in his mouth from an extremely rough cleaning. When we mentioned it to the dentist, she refused to acknowledge that it was due to the cleaning (even though my son came out of the office in pain and canker sores started appearing the next morning). She did give him a prescription mouthwash for the sores. (Fast forward 1 year: We are not going to dental visits right now due to covid..called to see if they can prescribe the mouthwash again and they refused to unless we come in for a visit). This place is nearby and they did a mass advertising campaign, so I thought I'd try them. I went a handful of times but decided to switch dentists for two main reasons. 1- They include things not covered by insurance without asking you first. I was charged for fluoride but was not told there would be a fee. When I asked at the front desk, they said your plan has all that info. As if I carry my plan around with me? Also funny, bc they were careful not to do x-rays bc they wouldn't be covered that time, so I assumed they were checking coverage as they added services. And I wasn't given an option, it was just like okay fluoride time. 2- They need some training about inclusive and respectful treatment of clients around gender. I was called "Mrs" several times by multiple people. I am single. I was clear about that. Also, if we're being forma, it's Dr. Likewise a few of the hygienists I saw made insensitive comments about my not having children. (the most recent one I saw I really liked). Yes, it is a family area. No, not everyone here has a family. It is presumptuous to use titles people have not said are okay and it does not feel good to be put down for not having kids. Went for consult with Dr. Stevens for some cosmetic dentistry and had impressions taken for crowns. Three weeks passed and did not hear a word from them as to next steps/appt/etc. Tried calling numerous times throughout the next week. Got their voicemail every time, followed by a text message indicating they received my call (yet nobody bothered to call me back). Finally moved on to a new dentist and had beautiful new crowns within days of consult. Costa customer service is AWFUL!!! I wasted almost a month of my time...don't waste yours! read more
