Went here on 12/02/2020 after having a severe toothache. They were kind enough to squeeze me in despite of COVID-19 situation. Seems like they been taking proper precautions against the virus. I had to wait in the car until the previous patient left the premises. Dr. E seems to be very busy (understandable). He was to the point. After an x-ray he gave an option to extract or root canal since the tooth has an exposed root. I choose to extract and he gave me a referral to an oral surgeon. He explained everything to me despite of being so busy. Receptionist was ok. She seemed to be agitated when I asked about my insurance information as the surgeon office asked me to get the information from her. Note: this place accepts Kaiser Dental Insurance but what I found weird is they gave me the price of $84 on the phone when made an appointment but charged me $89 in actual. read more

I am updating my review after noticing a weird message on yelp accusing me of being paid for my good review. It arrived as a notification in my email, but when I opened yelp it was gone (deleted?) I have no idea why all the drama but I've never had an issue at this dentist office. I have never been told to have extra services done. I get cleanings that my dental covers twice a year. I take good care of my teeth as an adult and was never told I need a deep cleaning or any expensive extras. The one time I opted for something not covered by insurance was a few dollars for optional flouride treatment, i didnt like the taste so I only tried it once and no pressure from Dr. E it the hygienist. Staff has always been nice to me and accomodating. I know not everyone has the same experiences as each other in life but I really don't ever feel a weird vibe from this office ever. I have a lot of old cavities from when I was a kid that he keeps an eye on and still he has only watched and not even told me I needed to redo them yet. I just really don't get that same experience that others are getting. I recently had an issue with my retainer coming unglued and they got me in fast and did a great job, better than my orthodontist. The bonding is really smooth and I was in and out. This time, like always, they were really accomodating with my work schedule which is important. This is my honest update. I am just a regular person that flosses daily, gets cleanings regularly and has modest dental coverage through work. I like this dentist and have had a perfectly normal expertise so far. read more

UNNECESSARY SERVICES AND RUDE OFFICE MANAGER I was told that in order to complete a check up and cleaning I was required to have a full set of X-rays taken (not covered by my insurance). I have never been required to have X-rays before proceeding with a check up and cleaning by any other dentist ever. It sure felt like I was being forced to pay for unnecessary services to line the dentist's pocket. Other reviewers have mentioned the same. Also, the office manager was rude and disrespectful while explaining this X-ray office policy. After I reluctantly agreed to the X-rays so I could receive the check up and cleaning (since I had no choice otherwise) and asked if we could get started she told me I was the reason why we were delayed! Other reviewers have mentioned similar issues related to demeanor of the office staff. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT GATEWAY DENTAL. read more

I have always had a very good experience when visiting Gateway Dental. Just a few days ago one of my implant's crown pop up during flossing. I call their office and even though it is during Corona virus close up they scheduled me and went there and fixed my crown. read more

OVERCHARGED, UNNECESSARY SERVICES PERFORMED December 29, 2015 -- Visited Dr Mohammed R Eghtessad, Gateway Dental, for routine "deep cleaning" -- had no symptoms. Charged $83 for complete oral evaluation and full mouth X-rays.  Dr Eghtessad prescribed "perio scale & root pln" LL and LR followed by "perio maint every 3 months" and for another doctor to look at "bone loss" at one tooth. January 11, 2016 -- Returned to Gateway Dental where Dr Nallavalli performed "perio scale & root pln" on LR and UR. Charged $379. Dental plan schedule is $137 per quad. The Code 9630 charges are not specified in the Dominion Dental Plan, and presumably included in the charge for scaling and root planing. January 18, 2016 -- Returned to Gateway Dental where Dr Nallavalli performed "perio scale & root pln" on LL and UL. I commented that this took far less time than on January 11. Charged $357 but not provided "Statement of Services Rendered". I didn't insist because I thought I would find it on the Gateway Dental website -- like with the statement from the December 29 visit. Dental plan schedule is $137 per quad. Was not provided an invoice for this visit. Some days later, upon examining the prescription from the first visit, I determined that what Dr Nallavalli performed was not what Dr Eghtessad had prescribed -- "perio scale & root pln" LL and LR only -- not UL and UR. Neither Nallavalli nor Dr Eghtessad said anything further regarding the tooth loss. Why did Dr Nallavalli not follow the prescription on January 11 visit? Gateway Dental neither returned the overpayment, nor did they apologize for the unnecessary work done on my teeth. Ended up paying $841 for services that should have cost $357 according to the agreement with Kaiser Permanente. July 17, 2016 -- Since I had no symptoms of gum disease, root planing was not required. read more

Overcharges! The receptionist wanted to charge me $30 for my co-pay when it was only $5. Thank goodness I know my plan and my benefits.. She had to look in a book and then corrected herself and said "oh yes, you are correct... There's so many plans it's hard to remember" but my insurance card has my co-pay right on the front of it. I went in a few times for routine cleanings and every time I went in they wanted to perform a "deep cleaning" that was over $300 out of pocket. I denied them twice and decided to switch dentist. Ever since then, I've never had a recommendation for a deep cleaning and the doctor at the new office I am now going to said that my gums and teeth look very healthy. THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!!!!! Had three extractions and bone grafts. This went well. However, somewhere along the line, my replacement dentures were not even close to the impressions. So, I left the office looking like I worked at a Walmart in Arkansas! A rush impression was ordered; but,, of course, they were not ready on the date mentioned. No phone calls from Gateway to tell me my 'teeth' were ready. I called them. They said they were in. Went to the office, only to find out they were closed for a meeting!! The dentist has seen my entire family, great with my daughter...I would recommend going here if you WANT TO PAY FULL PRICE WHEN INSURANCE PAYS THEM ALSO!! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET MY $250 back from them since July!! There is ALWAYS an excuse as to why they won't refund the $250 I paid out of pocket!! Cannot agree about the staff. My daughter-in-law (an American citizen of Ethiopian descent) was just treated in a shameful manner. She arrived at 10:20 for a 10:30 appointment and was greeted by name by the receptionist, obviously expected. A man came out and talked to the receptionist after which she said her appointment had been at 8:30 and she could not be seen since she was late. I was sitting next to my DIL when she made the appointment and she was on speakerphone. The receptionist made the appointment for 10:30. I heard her clearly. The receptionist even called 2 days ago and confirmed the appointment for 10:30. Then the receptionist had the gall to say that she was not responsible if my DIL's English was not good. My DIL's English is nearly perfect with just an understandable accent. She felt manipulated and taken advantage of because of her accent. She does not wish to return to this office for fear of being treated badly again, but has very few options with Kaiser. Totally unacceptable behavior on the part of this office. read more

Worst customer service ever. The manager named "Cynthia" literally told me she would delete our patient profile with a click of her button,talk about unprofessional. Beware, they charge you $35.00 for reschedules, late or misseds appointment as well. They sent a bill but did not notify us about any appointment, then told me she called to confirm the appointment with someone & talked to someone, which was a complete lie, because the number I gave them is ONLY a voicemail number and not even a phone number for someone to pick up. Then she proceeds to say it does not matter, yea it does matter, you just lied to me over the phone and now totally lost our family's trust. I asked her to have the Dr. call me and she said he does not take calls, I still told her to have him call me, I highly doubt that message will make it to him. Cynthia didn't even try to say hey let's schedule your family an appointment and confirm this over a phone, so willing to delete a customer with her click of her button and thirsty about the $35.00 vs. a family with long term dental care with top notch insurance. Customer service is number one and being a long time local for many years, I would never let anyone in my family visit this place and will certainly tell my friends about it. read more

Dr Ektessad is excellent at his craft, and has been kind enough to squeeze me in for a cracked tooth emergency. The "temporary" fix looks great, and it's been months now. Going to the dentist is not my favorite thing; yet he and his staff manage to make it a pleasant and educational experience. The fact that I live in Gaithersburg, MD, and drive to Virginia to go to this wonderful dentist (as does my family) says it all! read more

Their customer service was great and the doctor was very gentle. She explained everything and most important, they were very understanding and they treated their own staff great. My husband and I went there for a normal check-up and cleaning. We have dental insurance and wanted to make sure our cost would be mostly covered for the basics. Two hours later, we walked out with only xrays done and no cleaning. The doctor was not willing to do normal cleaning for us. Instead he wanted to charge us 5 times more for "deep cleaning". We both have good teeth and have never had any cavities. We have no pain and no problems with our teeth. We only wanted a regular cleaning and he is unwilling to do it. My wife and I changed dental insurance in early 2015 and found that Gateway Dental and Dr. Eghtessad were our closest option. Upon my initial visit I was told that I needed over $2,000 of dental work done to repair what I was told were egregious issues with my teeth and gums. I have by no means neglected my oral hygiene, so this news came as a shock. Most recently, I went in to get a routine cleaning and have Dr. Eghtessad sign a DoD form stating that my oral health was up to par, to which he expressly stated that he would not, as one of my teeth was, according to him, a "ticking time bomb" that wouldn't last more than a year without the previously mentioned $2,000+ worth of his dental work. Keep in mind that between this visit and my initial consult, over a year had already passed with no worsening of my "ticking time bomb" tooth. I went to another dentist in Leesburg who fixed the bomb in my mouth with a simple filling for literally ten times less than I would have been charged at Gateway, with the assurance that it will last at least a year, with no further repairs necessary. Dr. Eghtessad will try to scare you into letting him perform the most invasive and expensive procedures without even attempting to fix an issue the easiest way. Save your time and money and find a reputable dentist who cares about his patients more than his wallet. read more
