Moved to VA from MD in late 2018, I was looking around for a clinic for basic cleaning services. I found Chantilly Modern Dentistry while grabbing lunch at the new plaza on Westfields. They do online appointments which is great, so I gave them a try. My first appointment was great. The staff is friendly and will make you feel comfortable. The other thing I liked is that they will breakdown and explain the services and make sure that you understand the costs. No pressure when you decline some services. The prophylaxis was quick, easy and actually pain-free. I dread going to the dentist but they changed my outlook. I was satisfied, enough to book my future appointments with them. I highly recommend this clinic to everyone, especially if you dread going to the dentist for regular checkups and cleaning. read more

I made it very clear that I only wanted a simple cleaning that my insurance covers 100% twice a year. I confirmed this multiple times, including at the appointment. I stated that I would not agree to anything that required out-of-pocket payment and that I only wanted what was covered under my annual check-up. When they suggested taking X-rays, my husband declined and said he only wanted the cleaning. She told to my husband the X-rays would be fully covered by our insurance and that we would not have to pay anything. However, after I was seated in the dental chair, a coordinator came in and said the total treatment cost would be over $2,000 and that I would need to pay $350. I clearly repeated that both my husband and I only wanted the simple cleaning covered by insurance. They acknowledged this, and we both received only the simple cleaning that day. Two weeks later, the office billed my husband $948 for services not covered by insurance--specifically the X-rays the staffs had told us were fully covered. The office also charged me $88 for "oral hygiene instruction." Instruction? During the visit, the dentist asked when my last cleaning was, and I said four months ago. She mentioned inflammation but didn't identify a cause. I told that I have diabetes and would follow up with my primary care doctor, but that for that day I only wanted the simple cleaning covered by my annual check-up. I believe this billing situation is extremely dishonest. I clearly stated multiple times--when making the appointment, during the visit, to the dentist, and to the coordinator--that I only wanted procedures fully covered by insurance. Yet I still received these charges. I would like to ask: if a dental office says X-rays are fully covered and proceeds with them, but later claims they are not covered, is the patient really responsible for paying the full amount? I also want to know if anyone else has experienced something similar with this dental office. read more

Borderline criminal! I rarely if ever write a review for this sort of thing and keep my reviews mainly for restaurants. But the level of predatory billing behavior compels me to write this so other people can avoid this place as if there is bubonic plaque is active at their location. I am quite familiar with dental work as a patient for many years and as someone who has a bunch of dentist friends. The first incident occurred in the latter part of last year when I went for a cleaning and routine x-ray. A couple of months later, I found out they were charges of a couple of thousand dollars with collections close to it to boot. For cleaning!! I thought it was a mistake and paid no further attention. Recently, I had actual work done which if I had elected to just pay out of pocket altogether somewhere else, it would have been half of they eventually charged/collected from me and insurance. Their reporting to insurance is also shady. It seems they run your insurance to get the max limits of what can be paid or what is left. Then, they just upcharge and become creative with their billing to max everything out. It's like going to a restaurant where they figure out for example you have a two-thousand-dollar credit left and they charge the entire meal the maximum of what is on your credit card. If you have five hundred left, then your soup is five hundred. If you have 2k then your salad and soup become 2k. It's shady and sinister to put it mildly but aligns well with criminal and predatory. They need to be investigated for insurance fraud. The above applies to the owner and billing staff. It seems some of the dentists (e.g. Dr. Nguyen) are employees. They do good clinical work. However, they unfortunately become guilty by association. read more

They will upsell you for every penny that you are worth. Do not believe them. Get a second opinion. Get your cleaning which they will do as quickly as possible to get you out the door. Never come back. TERRIBLE! The "Modern Dentistry" brand is known for upselling. They do the same thing in the Falls Church location. In this location, they are ruder as they do it. DO NOT GO HERE. The dentist is a universal place for worry. The idea of someone going in your mouth and cleaning your teeth and of course, finding stuff that you don't want to be found in your teeth or mouth. My experience with Chantilly, modern dentistry took my fears of the dentist away. When you walk in your greeted by two amazing women who help you feel like you've been going there all your life. Then I was seen by the dentist, because I denied getting x-rays. I had wish that they asked me prior to sending me back to get x-ray so it wasn't so awkward, but I was able to just say no that I didn't wanna get them done this time. I appreciate that they respected that request. Seeing the dentist was very kind, to the point, and did her exam. I then needed to get a cleaning and was a little worried when they said it was a little more invasive. Jin cleaned my teeth and she did a spectacular job. I was too afraid to use the numbing methods so she was so careful when cleaning and honestly, it felt better than any cleaning I've gotten in my life. I was super grateful for the chantilly modern dentistry team, and I'm excited to go back again soon. read more

Gave them a few attempts for me and my family. For me, they frequently upcoded/upsold the costs of things I did not need. Twice they did procedures (Pushing $1K), which after review with a third-party dentist was not necessary. Between two visits I switched from a Sonic Care to Another electric toot brush (Side note, don't!). There was a decline, and the dentist (Dr. Vakharia) gave a critical analysis of why I should brush, in a demeaning fashion. Without willing to listen to my attempt to figure out if maybe it was switching my brushing habit. The lack of listening is a really bad sign to me of a dentist. A lack of respect toward patients is a bad sign. To my family, which really is the only thing that matters. My toddler was looked at by her and said things were good. The billing to the insurance company included a line, "instructions for how to brush our teeth." Which was not once discussed during the appointment. This is when it all hit me to go back and compare everything. They are a new place and are trying to bleed their patients and insurance companies for as much money as possible to pay for all their equipment I and office. Avoid them, I'm serious. If you need a great place for your kids, go to Dr. Julie Lin Baveja. She is great, her staff is great, her disposition great, and reasonable. Call her 703-870-7370. read more

The absolute WORST place I've ever been too. They scheduled a cleaning appointment for me at 10:30. I came there, waited, and 1 1/2 HOURS LATER, my teeth has still not been cleaned. It's absolutely RIDICULOUS. I've been to places where there's only one dentist and one assistant, and the MOST they've ever made me wait was 15-20 minutes. This place had about SIX working dentists/hygienist/dental assistants yet made me wait for 1 1/2 hours. It's not like I'm doing something complicated, it's just regular cleaning, something even dental students can probably do. All that time I could've done my homework or helped my parents clean their house is gone. It's absolutely ridiculous. If you (the dentists) are not ready for someone, DO NOT suggest an appointment to your patients. That's just wasting their time. Unless you have a good 2 hours to toss around, then don't come here. read more

Do not get implants done here! It's overly priced. It took me 3 months to finally get the correct implant put in after 4 failed attempts.

This place has tried to upsell the absolute crap out of me, as I'm sure with every customer they have. Thank goodness though that my partner is good about insurance and reminding me that I always need to check with the insurance company to see if I'm being overcharged. When I first came here, I thought Dr. Valkharia and the rest of the staff were absolutely amazing. Irvine was very helpful in sending me my financial arrangement by email and Flor was always kind and conversational working at the front. When I noticed the first time they were up charging me, my insurance contacted them and Irvine billed the correct amounts, no problem. However, I came in on the 9th of September, and was shown an array of procedures I needed done, totaling to the amount of $2,336.00. An exorbitant amount for fillings and even more for a crown, which I knew was suspicious. Also, they had billed my insurance under Dr. Tuka (who was very nice) but they know Dr. Valkharia is my primary care dentist. Was this another attempt to get all my money out of my wallet? Dr. Valkharia also managed to do 6 fillings for me in one appointment. I thought that was weird and even one of my back teeth has a lot of space in between the other one from the work she did. So I called my insurance and spoke with a lovely lady who gave me the correct amounts for the procedures and lo and behold, $816. Quite the difference, right? I was told by Dr. Valkharia on my first visit, and Irvine reiterated, that their office did not do silver fillings, so according to my insurance company, they could not charge the upgrade fee. The insurance advocate contacted the office and spoke with Tatiana, who apparently, was very rude and defensive, and the representative told me she may not be willing to adjust the fees to the correct amount. She was also told by her, or whoever she spoke to next (because Tatiana hung up on her as the representative was connecting HR on the line) that they DO offer silver fillings. Why am I being told different information as an attempt to drain my bank account? I filed a complaint against them, and if I would have gotten those services, I would definitely have wanted my insurance company to investigate them. On a happier note, Marcia, who is the hygienist, is always super pleasant and even on a basic cleaning, does a thorough job. If everyone who worked there was like Marcia, they would not have these problems. When I saw her for my deep cleaning, she explained everything to me, and took a good amount of time. She is a 5 star employee in a 1 star dentist office. This place seems to cater to the rich and people who make a lot of money don't bat an eye to the prices they try to charge you. But if you are like me, just trying to keep your teeth healthy but don't have a six figure income, save your time. Do not do business with these people. It's shady. I'm sad to be leaving this place and I will miss Marcia and the rest of the front staff who is kind. Don't let all the smiles fool you though. They just want your money. read more

This place is such a scam. After my first visit, I believed them when they listed off the long list of things I needed, since it had been quite some time since I've been to the dentist. The 6 months later, a bunch of brand new things they convinced me I needed, costing me close to another $1,000 after insurance. After the same thing happened to my husband, I tried to give them one more shot. Even though my teeth had looked the best they ever have, they were STiLL trying to find a way to get money and were still trying to charge me thousands of dollars to perform procedures based on the x-rays I had from the previous visit; before I had spent almost $1,000! They also were charging for weird things and when I asked they said "oh it's just how we code it" so I was like "well can you not code it that way then...". It's really sneaky and sketchy. When I asked the dentist why he was recommending procedures based on old x rays, his response was that different dentists may see and recommend different things (I saw a different dentist the last time). Well he's right because that visit, I denied everything and got a second opinion who told me that none of those procedures were necessary. Glad I didn't fall for it this time but I definitely wasted $$ on previous visits. Also finally looked at my EOB and I think they've been charging things to insurance that were not done or even spoken to me about. I had a great experience getting 3 fillings done!!! The Dentist was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job, in a timely manner!! The receptionist was awesome super friendly and was very clear with pricing and what my insurance would and would not cover!!! They also offer payment plans which is very convenient!! Procedurally the dentist was good, techs seem good and friendly. The ability to reach them by phone or get an email response is miserable. I've sent multiple emails to an unnamed appt guy asking to confirm receipt and no response. I've been on hold multiple times for 20-30 mins with no getting through. Excellent customer service! I haven't been to a dentist in a few years and there were some issues with my teeth but there was no judgment. They explained everything before they did it and showed me my X-Rays along the way. With some places, you're left wondering what this will cost you, causing anxiety to creep in. Not here! They break down the cost if everything so that there's no nasty surprises along the way. All in all, a great experience, and I look forward to this being my regular dentist. :) read more

This office definitely takes you as an individual into consideration. From the up-front financial coordinator going over everything that I would be paying for before starting any of the procedures to the dentist taking extra care of areas she had noticed were sensitive during my cleaning. Was not happy with service, As a first time new patient upon arriving for schedule 1pm appointment did not get seen until close to 2 pm could not understand why the long wait Office was empty no one waiting to be seen...no one said anything until I approached desk and asked how much longer would wait be...secondly after appointment was completed office was to get back to me with a treatment plan never heard from anyone ( email nor phone) I called yesterday to complain of the type of service after being seen in late Dec and never hearing from anyone the only email I received was rate your service HA!!! Really !!! When I called on Jan22, 2019 I got a offsite answering service which I held online for 15min , message was sent to office early yesterday and I'm just receiving a call back today. Best dentist place in all of VA. Every single person I interacted with were wonderful. The 2 ladies at the front desk were very kind and put all my info in the system very quickly. The wait time was extremely short, about 5 min. I've never had an exam so thorough either. They did a ton of X-rays and pics and everything else. Dentist Mahdi awesome too. He was very kind and answered all my questions and was very thorough in both his treatments and explanations. Chris was super fantastic too. He answered all my insurance questions and printed out sheets showing the exact amount I would owe for each procedure after insurance. No pressure whatsoever to accept.
