The grilled catfish and pinto beans were delicious and the corn muffins were good too (not Jiffy Mix corn muffins either). The greens appeared good but they just didn't hit my tummy and palate like I was hoping. I'd eat here again but won't get the greens. The salad was good too and so was the fruit.

Our waiter was especially kind and patient with our two grandsons, who can be pretty picky eaters. My oldest grandson ordered pancakes with bacon, but he doesn't like his bacon crispy. Our waiter went out of his way to bring him a new order of bacon that was cooked just the way he liked it. That extra effort meant a lot to us. We really appreciated the excellent customer service and the welcoming environment. We had a great time visiting our oldest son and spending time with him and our two grandsons in Gardner, Kansas. Because the indoor dining area was too cold for my daughter, we politely requested to sit outside.Instead of accommodating a simple customer request, the manager, Brian, looked at us and stated: "Here in the United States, we like the AC." This was a disgusting, unacceptable insinuation that our family is not from here, (we live in Overland Park) which shouldn't matter simply because we were proudly wearing Ecuador sports jerseys. We are Americans. Shortly after we had passive aggressive employees who all need to be re educated on service to people or simply maybe shouldn't be in the service industry. I am a professional woman, a nurse of over 18 years and to treat others this way is not ok especially our kids witnessing their behavior. To be profiled, alienated, and spoken to with such blatant disrespect by a restaurant manager is intolerable. This behavior does not belong in our community. We will never step foot in another Big Biscuit, and corporate office needs to investigate Brian immediately. And this has been escalated to corporate. We live in a time where this is no longer acceptable. Big Biscuit needs to do better with remediation measures to train their staff to communicate better with customers. The food was generally good but not as good as other First Watch locations. My gluten free bread was not toasted enough even though I asked for it to be toasted so it wouldn't fall apart as easily. The salad which she said should already have the vinaigrette mixed in, had absolutely none so I had to ask for a side of it. All other locations always have been fine with both of these items, I get the same thing each visit. My husband's BLTE was good but he asked for extra bacon and they forgot it and his bread was not really toasted like the other locations. I've had similar issues in the past when coming here. The check out host was nice and he was professional to a woman that was complaining at check out before we paid. I would just say the service is fine but the orders may have some issues when asking for specific things.

The server informed me that they didn't have broccoli, but they had green beans. Not being a fan of restaurant green beans, I had her return later so my wife and I could contemplate what to order instead given she also wanted to order the broccoli. The server returned and I ordered the ribs with a baked potato and my wife placed her modified order. Shortly the server returned and informed me that they didn't have ribs. So, I updated my order, again. Later, while we were still eating (literally forks in our hands and eating our food) the server asked if we wanted boxes. My wife and I were in disbelief that someone would ask if we wanted boxes while we were both eating. My wife made a comment thinking she didn't hear the server correctly. I assured her that she did hear her correctly. I think the server heard her, so the next time the server asked if there was anything we needed. We then asked for boxes having finished eating and having leftovers. She brought boxes and a check, without asking if we wanted dessert. Nothing like feeling like a business wants you to leave while not having people waiting for the table. Note: Our server was at the next table and informed them that they didn't have broccoli, but they had green beans, asparagus, and brussels sprouts. My wife and I already discussed that a properly run business would offer the upper end alternatives without the up-charge if they ran out of a side. Was she offering them the upper end alternatives without an up-charge? Don't know, but I noticed the difference in treatment. Also, if you are out of an entree that the customer wants to order then you should be offering a free appetizer, dessert, or comping the item some percentage. These are simple service recovery techniques. I did appreciate the lower noise level as my wife and I could carry on a conversation across the table.
