Came here with my family of 11. First we had to sit in 3 different tables, but that's fine. Service was pretty slow, but we are a big group so whatever. Then they bring out a wilted side salad and tell my sister that what she ordered is not available (at least 15 minutes after we ordered.) Finally the food comes out and what do you know, we receive a wilted dinner salad. I will never come back here again. Terrible experience- I didn't even end up eating. I came here last night (Tuesday) with my grandparents. I am a waitress, myself, so I was in complete shock that I walked into the restaurant during a night shift with only one waiter, no host, and one busser working. I couldn't believe it. Our Server gave us the best attention that he was capable of giving and the busser was very kind and helpful to us. You can't go wrong with Ihop's wonderful pumpkin pancakes. The food was up to Ihop standard, which was pleasing. I'm not leaving a bad review for the staff, as they worked extremely hard with an entirely full restaurant. I hope this message gets to management and you not only recognize the hard work your staff has put into this restaurant, but a sense of urgency to hire more support staff/waiters. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but I really enjoy going to IHOP because I am painfully sentimental and nostalgic. Whenever I step under the trademark A frame of an IHOP (and by the way, SCREW all those newer, poseur "IHOPS" that have sold out to lame FLAT roofs in strip malls and shopping centers), I am whisked back to lazy mornings with my grandparents who, incidentally, loved this sweet little gem of a monster chain. My grandfather, who was in the food service industry most of his life, loved IHOP not for the food, but because it is simple, dependable, honest, and most importantly, can be counted on to serve a hot, fresh cup of coffee. My grandmother loved IHOP because it is one of the few places where it is acceptable to have chocolate chips and whipped cream for breakfast. Proof, once again, that old people ALWAYS know what is really important in life. My favorite IHOP story involving my grandparents occurred many years ago, when my grandfather, who always read the Wall Street Journal with his morning coffee, inadvertently left his reading glasses at a local IHOP one Sunday morning. The following Monday morning, when he went to read his copy of the WSJ, he realized what he had done. He immediately got into his car and drove back to IHOP, where they offered him a box full of eyeglasses that people had left at the restaurant over the years. Sadly, his glasses were not in this box. But my grandfather, a resourceful man, did not fret. He sorted through the lost and found box until he found the pair of glasses he felt best corrected his vision. Never mind that they were too small and slightly odd looking. He put them on (or rather, "clamped" them to his temples, as they were too small to fit behind his ears), thanked the IHOP host, and went home to read his newspaper. My grandfather went on to wear those glasses for the next several years. They were to become known as "The IHOP glasses", and were the source of much family amusement. I'm not sure if he wore the IHOP glasses because he liked them, or because when he wore them, it made his family smile. Regardless, they made him happy, and in the end that's all that matters. This past weekend I had breakfast at this Hayward IHOP. Like most childhood relics upon which we wax poetic later in life, IHOP, too, cannot live up to my memories. The food, while still tasty, is not as exciting as it was for me at nine years old, and is now WAY more expensive. The booths are kind of sticky and there are scrambled eggs ground into the carpet. The waitress uniforms far less cute. And sadly, no matter how hard I try to suspend my own disbelief, I can no longer seem to convince myself that I'm actually, physically, inside of a Swiss chalet. Nevertheless, the service at this location was fast and very friendly, and I really enjoyed my skinny little French pancakes with the orange sauce. And in the end, nothing says comfort and joy more than a big ass insulated pitcher of hot coffee...ALL TO YOURSELF. Yesterday morning, when I hopped into my car and squinted in the glare of the hot April sun, I reached for my sunglasses and realized that they were not in my purse. I looked in the sunglass compartment of my car. Not there either. Not the best... Getting tired of this place...cause everything has an IHOPPY taste... like seriously.. That's the only reason I gave it 2 stars (so really this is a one star place)...it's consistent. Consistently ihoppy. No matter the locale it's gonna taste the same..wherever you go, whatever state you're in. The staff is friendly, the food always comes out quick, and it's main habitants are seniors; so you'll have a very chill experience while you're here. But I did enjoy the boysenberry syrup on one side of my stack, a real treat. Today is November 21 at approximately 11 AM. I went to this location. I noticed a lot of people going in giving their name and leaving. I heard the host tell someone that she didn't know how long the wait would be. Another lady to come in from her car and said my name is next she went and got the older gentleman that was with her. The hostess told him she couldn't sit him. He asked her how come they were all these empty tables. We have been waiting quite a long time and she told him something about the grill. He said, forget it and left. I asked her what did you tell that gentleman about the grill and she said they were too many cooks in the kitchen and no one was cooking. Too many cooks in there. She told him that she couldn't tell them when they would be sitting I told her I would be getting a hold of corporate of which I will. My husband and I have gone to this IHOP a long time never had. I never heard such a thing ! She even repeated it for me. We gladly went over to Elios. Where there was no problem and sitting us or waiting on us and they had cooks cooking. read more

It's iHop, not Gary Dankos. Don't take it so seriously. In my opinion, the grub that iHop offers is a lot tastier and appetizing than the crap they are serving up at Denny's, Lyon or even Mel's Diner. Everything else is pretty standard and while you can find a specialty restaurant to give you better omelets or steaks, I would say IHOP has a nice selection of food to choose from at each meal. Therefore, the differentiation between one IHOP to the next is the environment and personnel. Pros: -I've never had a bad experience with the staff. All of the servers are extra attentive and have great customer service. -Most of the servers have amazing skin and makeup that I like to look at (oh the "superficialness" I apply in a review) -The hosts are always available and nice - even when you bug them about the wait -The bathroom is always clean Cons: -Parking is a b&*$#! I remember going here as a little child...(SMILEY FACE PANCAKES! YAY!) This particular location has been around FOREVER and it's in this cute little house-like building with a bright blue roof that has so much more character than any of the other locations that I've been to. In fact, I remember how devastated I felt when I learned that International House of Pancakes was actually a chain restaurant and that our family wasn't the only people who affectionately called it IHOP. Still, there's something about this particular IHOP that makes it seem like a family-owned corner breakfast house... As with any IHOP: there's a POT OF COFFEE on the table and I don't have to flag someone down to get a refill! There are 5 different delish syrups, everything from strawberry to ligonberry to standard maple. The sausages are yummy, the portions are generous and everything is hot and good! But at this particular IHOP the waitresses are always down-to-earth and friendly and skilled! There's this one cook who has been here since I was a little girl and he's still grillin' it up! And the atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming! I absolutely love coming here for breakfast...but if you come on the weekend you gotta come before 8am or you'll be waiting for hours no joke to get a seat...it's that popular! Their wait is usually crazy if you don't get there early in the morning in a weekend. We waited for about 25 mins after being told that it would be 15 mins. The waitress Cristina took about 10 mins to even take our order. The food took longer then expected today. When food arrived it was cold and some items in our plate were missing. It took even longer for ya to get them. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 stars this time is because we been going there for years and they usually do bring your order right and your food warm and freshly made. Wow!!! This was the last place I would ever guess I would eat PERFECT SIRLOIN TIPS!! I was hungry for an egg breakfast at 3 PM, but was intrigued by the menu item at IHop for "Sirloin Tips with Eggs" breakfast plate. The eggs over easy were perfect, the hash browns WELL DONE as I asked for, but the best surprise of all was the most succulent, tender, tasty and delicious bites of ANY sirloin tips I have tasted in years! I mean, seriously...what can anyone expect from a breakfast plate combination that only costs $12 bucks? As I chomped on eachtender morsel of tenderloin tip, I actually kept expecting to bite into a bad, tough piece full of fat. But no....not here...these Sirloin tips wer cooked PERFECTLY! Not a single bad one in the whole bunch. And...smothered in onions and mushrooms put it over the top. I whole-heartedly recommend this bargain priced restaurant to anyone looking for ultra FAST service (took about 10 minutes total) and delicious food...AND at a price everyone can afford. Luis, the waiter was very quick, efficient and friendly, and the chef (I think it was Robert) impressed me enough for me to stick my head into his little 'pill box' where he does the cooking and told him my meal was cooked to perfection! I am not shy about writing bad reviews pertaining to other steak restaurants where I paid as much as $60 for a steak dinner, and yet had the worst possible results. (See my other written reviews for the "Sizzler", "Broadway Grill" in San Mateo, and "Three Flames" in San Jose). The decor is tired and worn out, as well as the table surfaces and some of the booth surfaces - yet everything appears to be clean. HOWEVER, I am not paying top dollar for the food and ambience. Therefore, I rate the IHOP in Hayward with 5 Stars. My only complaint is that I have tried eating at this restaurant several times over the past year, and everytime I'm craving their type of food (quick and delicious), I've run into a packed parking lot full of cars. Good for them...bad for me! Now that I see the quality of the food and the economy that goes with it, I will endure future trips to this restaurant, even if I have to wait a while for an open table! We ordered the family breakfast which came with 4 small breakfast links, 4 paper thin strips of bacon, 8 tasteless pancakes and hashbrowns, and watery eggs. We also ordered the drink bundle which comes with 4 drinks, but we only received 3 drinks. I called the restaurant and asked where was my other drink, the person who answered claim to have given all the drinks to door dash, he kept telling me that he gave all 3 drinks to door dash, I let him know that the bundle comes with 4 drinks, and that's what I paid for. He then said that I can come and get my other drink or Ican have a refund for the other drink. If I wanted to drive there, I wouldn't have ordered for delivery. I told him that I wanted a refund for my drink. He then said that he would have to talk to his manager when he gets there. I did not receive a refund for my drink. It has good service and it has good food. the bathroom was clean, not impeccable, but sufficient. I ordered a pancake stack to go. it was good. my one complaint is the lack of diversity where there were only latinos. hayward is a very diverse city, so it seemed rather odd. they need to hire more Black people. to people who are going to go in by walking: there is a very steep hill you have to climb from the sidewalk to the front door. if you have bad legs, knees, ankles, or feet you will have a hard to time climbing it depending on the chronicness of your problems. Called in late for work on Friday to have a little breakfast with my boothang. It was pretty busy on a Friday morning and fortunately, we were seated right away with menus. Service was pretty quick (which is good because we were in a bit of a rush) and the food was decent. I tried the eggs benedict and they were OKAY. I'm not a huge fan of fast food restaurants, but for some reason I love this specific IHOP. Their food is a hit or miss, you just have to know what to order. Red Velvet pancakes are a win BTW. I always order The Sirloin Tips (Breakfast or Dinner) they're both good. Their service is actually pretty decent. On the slower days, they're very attentive and courteous and on the busier days, they may forget, they'll apologize and get your item right away. I tend to ask for a lot especially at different times because I'm so forgetful, but they're cool with that stuff. Definitely my late night stop!
