You are over worked, under paid, and food service is easily one of the most stressful jobs out there. When you just need one more coffee mug so you grab a dirty one and use it. So the food here was really good but that was about it. The service was one of the worst I've seen, and I'm generally considerate. I came here with my mom and brother on a Sunday morning and they weren't as busy as I expected. Which was probably because we came before the rush. When we sat down and ordered our drinks the server seemed really frantic and was focusing on everything but us. Which was strange seeing a s they weren't that busy yet. After she set our drinks down at the table she turned her head to yell at the kitchen. And she also didn't really check on us during our visit which I thought was strange. About 10 minutes after I ordered I couldn't remember if I told her no cheese so I tried to get her attention to confirm that I said no cheese and it appeared to be the largest inconvenience for her to answer "yeah, you told me" that I was appalled. When ordering, the server corrected me and my group multiple times on what we were saying, and would not let us order our drinks until we ordered our food- but she let everyone other table around us do it. While the waitresses are generally nice, food and coffee arrive cold after around 45 minutes of waiting. The food at this specific Ihop is noticeably less quality. It's not an everyday place I come, but yesterday's event was a disaster. It was so much a disaster as a result of having the order given to the waiter this time, but when the order came out, it became this disaster. Out of the five people who were there in my "party" (hoping for something to combine an upcoming birthday with Mothers Day today (celebrated a day early), 2 orders were colder than they should have been (mine (the Mega Monstropolis burger) was lukewarm/cool, while my brother's meal (forgotten what it was) was cold), and when it took forever for the meal of the turning-60-year-old "birthday child" and she realized she was going to be eating alone, this really pissed us off. Then you add in all the other problems we had with the table (which the place tried to correct): such as the syrup bin being unclean around the edges of at least two of the syrup containers' bottoms), and you actually add that up to one not-so-right experience (they brought us over a freshly-washed (and full) set of maple syrups that they reminded us that were dripping wet). A little more attention to detail should have been watched here. We're a little thankful for the 15% discount for the problems you gave us, but that's not right. We do come in here every once and awhile - and even now that Denny's nearby is closed for re-renovation - this is/was a place that we thought would be an excellent choice. Oh yeah, wait time was impossible yesterday. We got in there, and saw a few people sitting down on the benches and put our name in. We were told about 10 minutes. A few minutes later we checked and our name had a fifteen minute wait. We almost walked out to another place nearby some of us trusted. Pancakes aren't some kind of mystery, and serving them to the public shouldn't be hard, but this particular IHOP fails at it. Pancakes are really easy (Mix, egg, milk, stir, heat), and yet this location is so bad at serving them. I have low standards for IHOP's, generally, and this IHOP doesn't even come close to meeting those. Maybe I just don't understand the place. Maybe the reason I thought the wait staff were extremely slow and inattentive was because they were hiding. Perhaps this IHOP is really the "International Hide-And-Go-Seek with Our Patrons". My wife and I were the only two in the place and the waitress was scarcely seen. It seems the rest of Albany has either A.) Learned to stay away from this location altogether or B.) Is also playing Hide-And-Go-Seek at this location. Perhaps she's not a bad waitress. Perhaps my wife and I are just really bad at Hide-And-Seek. Perhaps it wasn't our waitress that was barely trying to do the bare minimum to accomplish her job. Perhaps my wife and I should have put some effort into finding her to win the unannounced game of hide-and-seek. The restroom, when I went there, had been destroyed and was in dire need of cleaning. I'm going to contextualize this review by saying - I LOVE IHOP. I have since I was a kid. I've eaten at IHOP's across the country. This location, by leaps and bounds, is the worst IHOP I've ever experienced. Mismanaged completely. The pancakes are about half the size you'll see at all other IHOP locations. I waited 20 minutes for an omelette because they made it wrong twice. All I asked for was to remove the green peppers. Apparently, the dunce line cook couldn't comprehend that. I know this sounds terrible, but you know when you see a person that looks stupid? This was the line cook. Looked like he'd be stuck for a solution to 3+3. Then, he's there talking to the other line cook, "Yeah, bro." Blah. Blah. Blah. SHUT UP YOU IDIOT. FIX YOUR HAIR. BRUSH YOUR TEETH. AND OMIT THE F&CKING GREEN PEPPERS. I was happy with the service and ambiance at this IHOP, although the food wasn't all that it could have been. We arrived on Father's Day at 9 am and got seated without a problem. The decaf coffee was fantastic. I ordered the same thing as my sister, who got two pancakes and two scrambled eggs. Well apparently I had misheard her and she had actually ordered two blueberry pancakes, whereas I thought she'd ordered plain. So when my pancakes came out, they were blueberry pancakes - but not the kind that has the blueberries in the batter, but the kind that are topped with a mound of blueberries in sauce. Yeah, definitely not what I wanted - and totally my fault for not realizing she'd ordered blueberry. Fortunately I switched with my dad, who had gotten two plain pancakes as a side to his order. The plain pancakes were delish, although I wish I'd had three. Unfortunately the maple syrup at IHOP is not real maple syrup. I asked the waitress ahead of time if they had real maple syrup, and she seemed to have no idea of what I was talking about and just said, "That's all we have." To me, it's very sad that one can be at a diner in upstate NY and not get real maple syrup or have the waitress even know what it is! The scrambled eggs were good, but a bit small. Maybe they use smaller eggs than the jumbo ones I use at home, but I should have ordered three instead of two. The IHOP itself had a pleasant atmosphere, and we were served very promptly by friendly staff members. By the time we left around 10, there was a long line to get in. (Score!)
