Went there two days ago on Wednesday for the first time after living in the neighborhood for 10 years and finally gave them a try. Was super excited to get my industrial re-pierced but had to walk out because of their problematic and unprofessional employees. Before I even walked in, I could see the piercer laying down on the chairs (first red flag). During the consultation she was actually knowledgeable, nice, and made me feel comfortable even though she talked me out of re piercing my industrial saying it was an "advanced" piercing. I figured maybe too advanced when she's half asleep so for my own safety I went with my gut feeling and agreed with her simpler suggestion which I was still excited to get: a mid helix. However by the time I got to the front desk- whose only job is to gather the information the piercer gave them and proceed with checkout- the interaction somehow became more painful than getting any piercing done. The employee kept acting extremely puzzled (kept saying "I'm confused" to my answers to her OWN questions)... how is that even possible? Then every time I asked a simple question about jewelry design, it was the same response: "I'm confused", in addition to unnecessary attitude. I've worked with people with actual cognitive delays and it was very obvious this wasn't the case. They just wanted to be difficult for no reason because not only was she acting confused and being rude, she was also talking about me to her coworker which also proceeded to give me attitude and be passive aggressive. I saw one of them come back from talking to the piercer and then all of a sudden the piercer changed her mind and said she could go ahead with the industrial piercing -No thank you! That's when I matched their energy and expressed I wasn't comfortable with their behavior before trusting them with my body and doing something invasive, apologized to the piercer and walked out to that same employee saying " I hope you have a beautiful day". I was indeed having a beautiful day until I walked in and had to deal with their ugly attitude and continued to have a beautiful day as soon as I stepped out. Maybe they need to start embracing beauty into their lives instead of being intimidated by positivity and projecting their frustrations on customers- after all, people get piercings for a variety of positive reasons not because they hate themselves. Maybe try matching the customers energy next time. Respect yourself, your energy and your body and go somewhere where actual professionals won't use you like a guinea pig to project their frustrations, sadism, hate and incompetence on. If this is how they really treat people, let alone potential paying customers, they need to be in a therapist's office, not a piercing shop. read more

i'll start by saying that all of my experiences with the piercer's have been amazing. I've gotten my rook and conch pierced here. The piercers are super knowledgeable. But unfortunately, you have to go through a bunch of un knowledgeable people at the front desk before you can get to them. I went to the Wicker Park location to get new jewelry for my rook piercing. There were three girls at the front. I asked them for help- and to point me in the direction of the rook jewelry. One of them just pointed to a case (did not walk over to help at all). I pick one that I like and they finally come to pull it out. I spend $560 on a hoop and ask for the piercer to switch it out. The piercer comes out and tells me that what I paid for and chose is NOT for a rook and way too big. She even made a joke saying, thankfully I hadn't opened the bag or I wouldn't even have been able to return it. She brings me to the case and helps me pick out the right jewelry. Meanwhile, again, the three girls at the front doing absolutely nothing, just chatting with each other. When I went to do the exchange for the correct jewelry, none of them even apologized for misleading me and having me purchase the wrong jewelry. I would love to go jewelry shopping at these locations because they have really cool stuff but if there's nobody that's able to help you/ educated on the jewelry except for the piercer, there are better places to go. read more

However, I would prefer not to be assisted by Joanna in the future. After learning that she works at multiple locations, I intentionally chose this location to avoid being assisted by her, as I am uncomfortable and do not want her to perform my piercing in the future. I have found her to be unprofessional and not very caring toward clients. Because of this, I would not recommend clients be assisted by Joanna. I got my septum pierced here a few years go and had a good experience. Changed out the ring to a $20 horseshoe from a mall shortly after, which lasted me three years until I lost one of the balls. I went to Identity for a new ring and paid $55. It's been three weeks and the ball has come off twice. Both I and a professional piercer were unable to screw it back in because the ring is clearly defective, so I asked for a refund or at least a replacement, but was told this wasn't possible and that there's nothing they can do. I think it's shitty service to sell defective rings for that much money when a $20 mall ring lasted me 3 years. I will not be going back here, nor would I recommend this place to anyone unless you want Claire's-level customer service. read more

Piercing healing can be random at times so while my helix healing could just be luck- I gotta say I came in a week ago as a walk in and they were so fast- so clean - so professional- like they just had it down to science and my piercing has healed so smoothly. I never leave reviews and I've been to many piercing places but this is one that I would go out of my way to return to! Also realllly great jewelry options. Side note- I see some reviews about Joanna being unprofessional or something to clients?? Joanna pierced me and while I will say we didn't have much chit chat or anything, it seemed as though they were just focused on getting the job done quick and well! Maybe if you're afraid to get pierced you'd prefer someone who will wait for you to get the shakes out and hold your hand- but I had no issue with their work or demeanor. I regret coming here and getting my forward helix done. I visited Chicago with a friend and we decided to get our piercings done here because of the reputation this place has on social media and based on their reviews. It's a few days later and I've taken my (not even a week old) piercing out after having it bleed excessively for hours to the point where blood has clogged my ear canal (my hearing in my left ear is muffled now and burping gives me pain in my middle ear-- near tympanic membrane area), my ear is extremely swollen, and my jewelry piece has become embedded. I understand that these symptoms and signs come with a new piercing as it is forcefully creating trauma by sticking a foreign object in the cartilage but I wish my piercer understood that not all jewelry is a one size fits all. I believe if I had gotten a 10mm bar instead of an 8mm bar, I would have been able to save the piercing and ~$93. My piercer did check my ear if I had the anatomy for a forward helix, however I wish the thickness of this area of my ear was taken into consideration. Other than the forward helix piercing I got here, I have 6 ear piercings and 1 facial piercing done at my local shop in California which have all healed perfectly. This is the first piercing I've had to take out. Anyway, customer service was fine. My piercer here told me to clean my piercing every other day, which is wrong. It should be 2x a day with sterile saline solution. read more

I stopped in to shop for new jewelry for my healed rook and swap out my nose ring (which I've learned the hard way... twice... that I can't do by myself haha). My experience with Ian, the piercer who changed out my jewelry (and he also anodized my jewelry) was wonderful. Ian was very kind, professional, and did a great job communicating throughout the process. Overall, I would definitely trust Ian again with piercings or jewelry changes in the future. He mentioned he works at both this location and the Identity Roscoe Village location. I only gave this location three stars compared to the Roscoe Village location because the front desk/sales staff could definitely have been friendlier and more helpful. The girl who is helping me shop for jewelry was attentive, but she did nothing to try and upsell me, show me other options, make suggestions, etc., she just stood next to me while I asked questions and I looked. Also all the people that were working in the shop seem to be kind of joking around and having fun, which is really great, and I love when people are happy at their jobs, but it's important to remember that this is a business and you need to put customers and customer service first. It's not appropriate to ignore customers or talk to your coworkers over your customers. If they could keep it a bit more professional I think it would've been a better experience. read more

Came back 6 months after my piercing at their other location. Reeva/Reeza (I'm sorry I forgot the name) originally did my piercing and she was wonderful and so knowledgeable. I haven't had my ears pierced since I was 10 and she made me feel comfortable. Today was a downsize in post. Browsed some jewelry with my sister and she bought a couple beautiful earrings. The woman helping us was very patient since there was so many options to choose from. Ian did my downsizing today and he was very gentle and it was a quick process. It is a bit pricey but so far it has healed so quickly and great! I will definitely be back! I went in to get a replacement piece for one of my nipple piercings that had fallen off and the ladies at the front desk were surprisingly rude. I had gotten these piercings done there like 5 years ago and they were so friendly and helpful when I originally got them done and they did a great job and i've never had any issues with them. This time they just felt really condescending and somewhat uppity is how I guess I'd describe it? The piercer herself was really helpful but like every other staff member that wasn't a piercer felt snobby and like they were trying to upcharge you for every possible thing they could think of. I wrote that almost a year ago and just reopened yelp to give them another bad review and found this still here lol. going into identity is always a day-ruining experience for me. i like the quality of the jewelry they carry and the professionalism and skill of the piercers. so i'm going to keep coming back. however, i have never met people in a service-industry who are more ill-suited for a customer facing job. and listen, the customer is often, if not always wrong, i get that. but why are you making me feel like i've wronged you because i know how to change out my own nipple piercing and don't want to spend $30 + tip to have someone just take the jewelry out and put some new stuff in. and why do i have to argue with you about my own competence? read more

So I'm definitely updating this review because I waited a full year to allow my nose piercing to heal completely and another piercer (a woman with long dreads) was the only one available to help me change my stud out for a hoop. A girl was available to remove my stud and the professional piercer available told her I needed the hoop I chose initially and said it would work perfectly. The piercer took care of other people before me and made me wait an additional 10 to 15 minutes and when she finally had time to help me the hoop she fitted into my nose hurt so horribly that it created a new tear in my recently healed piercing. I was incredibly sore that day and a swelling occurred causing an infection so I had to visit a professional dermatologist last year and take a week's worth of antibiotics because of her roughness. Not sure of her name but she is thin, looks like a model, wore long dreads and or braids and she's a young African American woman. Let's just say I can't keep silent about this anymore because my piercing became problematic and I'm still trying to heal it. I'm not sure if the nose ring itself is made with mixed metals because I'm extremely sensitive to pure silver and nickel. I have a tiny bump near the piercing site that won't go away. Last time I visited here though Samantha my original piercer who I admired advised me to use heat compresses called dry heat. She said I should heat up a warmed washcloth and place a plastic baggie around it then apply the heat to my postule so the swelling goes down. It's been another full year and my nose is still irritated. Not one person working here owned up to the other woman's mistake. She probably placed a new hoop that was a bit too large into my smaller hole and stretched it out recreating a new hole unintentionally. I don't want this to happen to other people coming here for services and I think removing two stars from my original five star review will get my point across that the piercer will not take responsibility if they've done anything wrong. The jewelry here is absolutely gorgeous though but be careful who you choose to remove and replace your jewelry because mine unfortunately is now experiencing issues. I'm assuming the lack of care in choosing the best Guage is what caused all these problems and I'm extremely disappointed and I definitely don't appreciate being gaslighted. read more

My mom asked her to go with me to get her ears re-pierced so I took her here. They have a range of jewelry to pick from, but whew!! It is pricey!! Clearly it's clean and well-designed, but worth being prepared for. My mom was really happy with the experience and in the end, they didn't need to re-pierce her holes so she wasn't charged at all for that service. And ultimately, her happiness was what mattered! I did feel, though, that compared to other tattoo & piercing salons, this place felt very cold and impersonal, like they were moving people along the piercing conveyor belt. You check in on an iPad and then they tell you that someone will eventually call your name when it's your turn-- like the DMV. The person telling us about the jewelry options spoke like a flight attendant; there was no personality or warmth or humor or listening or help, really. And then they brought my mom to a back room and bluntly told me I couldn't accompany her (even though the whole point of me bringing her to the place was to help her feel comfortable!). In the meantime, I was interested in getting my own piercing but no one was available to talk to about what this would entail; that sort of conversation about anxieties or pain wasn't any part of the extremely clinical process. So I just waited for my mom and we left when she was done. They also require masks though the city mandate has ended which is great! But since the mandate has ended, people don't always have masks with them and if that happens, they are just turned away. Why not have a box of masks available at the front? So many coffee shops and stores do this, at a very low cost, and it just makes the space more inclusive. So, 4 stars because my mom, the real client. was happy. But for me, as someone looking to get my next piercing, I'll be headed to a warmer space. I'm looking for sterile techniques, not environments! read more

My best friend and I got our 2nd ear holes pierced last month! We arrived around 6pm and added our name to the list- it was about a 45min-1hout wait. The front desk gal was very informative about the process of how IBP works. We got to choose our earrings with a very covid-safe process: she had all earrings on display in a tray (all sizes and colors!) and we got to point and pick with a silver "chopstick". If we wanted to see the size/color up again our own ear, the gal was helpful about putting the earring into a set of tweezers so we could bring it to the mirror to hold it up to our ear. We actually waiting 2hours and 30 minutes until we actually got into our private room. We were so busy catching up, we barely realized this but we also had to cancel dinner plans that we made for what we thought would be plenty of time after our piercing. Under promise, over deliver. When we finally arrived in the piercing room, only one piercee was allowed in, so my best friend waited in the doorway while I go pierced and then I did the same for her. Our piercer was super knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. She gave us a countdown before using the needle which was really helpful. She also had such a soothing voice which keep everyone calm. Reminding us to breathe was so important... because we found ourselves holding our breath anticipating pain! It actually was not very painful. Uncomfortable, yes. Painful? Nope! Buyer beware- when we checked out, the front desk gal asked if we'd like to leave tip, which we did! The computer system automatically generated an 18%, 20%, 22% gratuity BASED ON THE TOTAL PRICE! I believe the top should be based on the "service" amount, not the price of the earrings ($30 each). I didn't catch this at the time because they were closing and I felt rushed! But I was thinking about this afterwards and it really upset me. The last thing I will say is that they tell you a blanket statement for ALL piercings. "Do not change out your earrings for at least 6 months". All of my other friends who have gotten a 2nd ear love piercing have been able to change out their earrings in 4-6 weeks. I think IBP just wants to cover all their bases, but I'd like a more personalized experience fir my particular piercing. They also informed us that we should come back to their studio to get a different backing put on our new piercing... at an additional charge. "It's not required but highly recommended". My 2nd ear piercing was already $160. I don't feel the need to spend another $15 per earring to get a different backing put on. I wished for a bit more guidance and personalization here. Also please set expectations that you can keep. Our wait for 2.5 hours was way over your estimated 45-60 min. Overall though, this is a great place to have your ears pierced Chicago! read more

My friends and I came in here for walk in appointments. They have a lot of jewelry to choose from ranging from titanium to gold (white, rose gold). I've never been into a piercing studio so this was a great first experience. The earrings they offer are high quality. The staff is also knowledgeable on what you should and shouldn't get. Paying for quality earrings means shelling out a bit more than I'd like but worth the investment. I came in for a lobe re-piercing (first one was done at a mall kiosk) but they were able to taper the earlobe piercing. They easily took that off my charges and I came out with just buying new jewelry. Such a great experience! I highly recommend and would come back if I decided to get something else pierced. read more

I've been coming here for years, and have gotten at least 6 piercings and numerous jewelry changes. My experience has been pretty consistent - amazing piercing staff but very unpleasant interactions with the front desk staff. I have seen multiple piercers here, including Nathaniel (who sadly doesn't work here anymore) and Joanna. They are very talented at what they do and are so kind. They're also available to help any time an issue has come up with a piercing. The front desk, on the other hand, is very frustrating to work with. They are dismissive of questions and have often treated me in a condescending manner. (And it's not like I'm a clueless piercing newbie either!) I recently recommended a family member to come here, and she also had a terrible experience. She felt heavily pressured by the front staff to purchase higher-priced jewelry, wasn't shown a range of different jewelry price points, and ended up paying significantly more than expected. I was so embarrassed to have even referred her to a place where the front desk treated her so poorly. I would love to continue seeing the piercers at Identity, but unfortunately the front desk staff is making me rethink my patronage here. read more

If I could give 6 stars I would. Let me tell you why. First, the reviews sold me. My friends and I were looking to get pierced and wanted high quality jewelry and the most sterile piercers in the land! And boom, we found identity. When we arrived, we were greeted and filled out our consent forms. Next, we met with Z to pick out our jewelry. This process was super dope. They handle all jewelry with gloves and customers are NOT allowed to touch the jewelry. I've had piercings before and right away I was like this is amazing. After deciding our jewelry, pricing and sterilization techniques were explained very thoroughly. Now on to the actual piercing. Madeline did mine and she was AMAZING. I got my septum done and when I tell you it was basically painless, I mean that. If I had to give it a rating, 4/10 tops on the pain level. She explained everything as she went and made the process so simple. And my piercing is cute af lol. I'm so happy with it and I will never go anywhere else to get pierced unless they are providing the high quality service and cleanliness that identity has. Period. Came in here to get my tragus piercing swapped out for some new jewelry. I haven't ever been to this piercing shop before, but I came here because their collection jewelry is incredibly extensive. Usually if you go to a piercing shop they have mostly some less expensive, "starter" jewelry. Here, they'll pierce you with whatever you wish from the start, not the "starter" pieces that other places make you get before they size you down or switch you to something else. Parking was pretty easy, even if it's in Bucktown (I think!); there's some paid parking along Ashland. I got my tragus pierced on February 29, 2020. We all know what happened shortly thereafter, so I was never able to return in April 2020 to get it sized down after the swelling subsided. I decided it was finally time. When I visited Identity, it was a Thursday. There was one other customer in the shop, and she was just wrapping up and waited inside for her ride since it was threatening to rain. The woman who helped me was really patient, helped me look up what they might have using various stones I like, and when I narrowed it down to 3 pieces gave me prices on them all so I could decide. There were a few I really loved, but I ended up with a kite-shaped amethyst which is beautiful and visually interesting. The woman who swapped it out for me (because while I'm sure I could change the piercing myself, I haven't done it before and am worried I'd have trouble getting it in) was finished within 5-10 seconds. I'd expected it to hurt more since that piercing was still somewhat sensitive, even after more than a year, but I didn't feel a thing--she said she was about done before I even realized she'd started. I'm really glad I went in, because the site of the piercing actually feels less sensitive than had prior to getting it switched out. I will definitely be back. I think I'd like to make an appointment for an ear curation, but I may do that when we're further outside the worst of the pandemic. I've been thinking about some forward helix, daith (because the clickers are gorgeous), and maybe a third lobe piercing... but I'd like some expert advice and input. read more

So my friend and I got an Uber specifically to go to this shop for second hole ear piercings. It started snowing that night (Feb 23) and when we got out of the Uber had a little trouble finding the shop. We arrived in the shop at 8:02pm and were so excited to get our matching piercings! The woman behind the front desk was very rude and told us that there was a cut off of walk ins at 8pm. We explained that we took an Uber from another neighborhood and that we had a little trouble finding the shop and we had to walk in the snow to get there and asked her to please reconsider piercing us as we were only 2 minutes late. The piercings we wanted were basic and I asked kindly if there was anyone else we could speak with and she said that she was the assistant manager and there was no one else at the time. The shop was still full of customers and everything...so refused to serve us so we left in peace. I don't leave reviews but I am leaving this one to show that this assistant manager is not only rude but not understanding and compassionate at all. Working in mental health, it was quickly apparent to me that she is an unhappy person who takes her inner turmoil out on others. I understand rules but we were only 2 minutes late, it was an unexpected night for snow, we had trouble finding the shop (or else we would have made it), and lobe piercings are probably the most basic piercing ever. Spend your money with people who treat others with some humanity and kindness. read more

I arrived a few minutes early to my appointment and was greeted right away. The staff was very polite and helpful. I chose my jewelry and waited about 10 minutes to make sure everything was sterilized. Madison then took me to the room and explained the process. She made sure the placement would work for me and my earrings of choice. Since I was getting 4 piercings, she wanted to do them as quick as possible so I didn't feel pain. She was right. It wasn't until I'd patronized both locations of Identity Body Piercing that I realized how poor of customer service I was receiving at the Ashland location. I had my nostril pierced a couple of months ago at the Ashland location, and purchased their jewelry to go in the hole. It was pre gold, not sure of the carat amount, but appeared good quality. Cost was about $200 overall including the actually piercing cost. Not long after wearing the jewelry in my nostril did it begin to fall out when I bent over. Not sure why this was occurring, I went back to the Ashland location to have the piercer install it more securely. Not too long after this, I went to a Pilates workout and the jewelry had once again fallen out and was nowhere to be found. I went into the Ashland location the same day and explained my issue, where I was told that there was nothing the could do. A few weeks later I went into the Belmont location to have the post of the same piercing removed, (I was having a hard time taking it out at home). I explained to them what happened at the Ashland location and was told that their jewelry typically only falls out when new piercings aren't inserted correctly, (they are supposed to be bent when inserted to prevent it from coming straight out). When I heard this I realized that I was never going to go back to the Ashland location, for the customer service has been horrible!! Only go to the Belmont location!! Walked in to get a daith piercing yesterday and couldn't have been happier with my experience. It was so wonderful it's inspired me to write my first ever Yelp review! First of all, as soon as you walk in the pace is clean, smells great, and has a charming aesthetic. I had a brief question which the person at the front desk answered thoroughly for me before I went in. Noel was the piercer that did my work and she was fantastic! Checked in and asked if I had questions throughout, explained everything and what was going on, took her time with my difficult piercing and explained aftercare thoroughly.
