I recently purchased a Swiss watch for my son for Christmas and needed the metal links reducing to fit his wrist. I sent out a request via yelp to a whole bunch of different jewelers that were local to Lincoln Park and Lakeview. Lincoln Park Gems, was the first to respond! I spoke with Victor, who was incredibly friendly and pleasant said that he was planning on closing a little bit early because it was New Year's eve, but then offered to stay a little later in order to help get this watch sorted that night! (Totally did not need to do this). When we arrived Victor, (very well dressed, stylish gentleman) sat us down, made my son, and I feel very welcome, and then proceeded to explain what he was going to do to the watch and made suggestions about how many links to remove and why. I walk in there to get my watch battery replaced, the guy received me and said he will be the person to do it. I have 3 Swiss watches, he quoted 35 dollar each. I felt the quotation is pretty high. He then down the price to 30 each. There is no other people at the store, I'm not sure, so i left and tell him that i will check back. I called out of the blue and asked if I could drop in for a fairly complex adjustment on a very cheap (but sentimentally valuable) watch. (I think the work might have been so complex *because* the watch is so cheap, candidly.) Victor invited me to drop by and saw me immediately, jumped on the job immediately, and called me when it was done. I get the sense it ended up being more of a pain than he anticipated, but he stuck with the very reasonable price he quoted me on the front end when I would've been happy to pay more for the level of service provided. I researched places to go to get jewelry repaired for a very long time for my necklace. This is a gold-filled necklace my boyfriend gave to me and it means the world to me. For a long time, the clasp had been broken and he had told me to take it to a jeweler but I am so attached this necklace that I had trust issues with dropping it off and walking away. So I kind of jimmied a random clasp I had onto it awkwardly and walked around with it that way. Eventually, about a month ago, I was taking off a turtleneck and my necklace caught and bent out of shape. I went to bend it back and it snapped after so many times of bending it back and forth like that. I was literally devastated and kept it in my wooden jewelry chest for a month because I was too nervous to drop it off anywhere and had read horror stories about jewelers losing important pieces of jewelry. I stumbled across this place on Yelp when I was looking at other reviews and everyone seemed to really trust Vik. I sent him a message explaining my situation and he emailed back very quickly with a quote and assuring me that he was confident he would be able to fix it and take good care of it. I dropped it off two days ago when I was in the area and was pretty nervous walking out of there. He told me he could have it ready by Saturday. Then I got an email last night (one day later) that it was already fixed, welded back together with the clasp replaced. I was so elated. Dropped by this evening on my way home from work and the heart beat has been fixed, the clasp replaced, and he even took the time to get the knots out of my necklace chain! (there were two that had been there for a while but I hadn't been able to get them out). I was so pleased that he had taken such good care of my necklace and made sure that I was comfortable and assured every step of the way. I had gotten my engagement ring resized at the location that my fiancé originally purchased the ring from, and when I got it back it was still a bit big but also had a scratch on it that wasn't there before. I was so disappointed to discover that, so decided to take it to Lincoln Park Gems to have it resized again and to see if the scratch could be buffed out. Owner stole and admitted to taking 11 grams of our gold off our wedding rings and tried to keep the gold because "how else is he supposed to make a profit unless he takes gold for payment". We went in to get our wedding bands resized, my husbands band was made of his late mother and grand mothers wedding rings. When we dropped off the ring they were thick and heavy rings. Upon picking up our rings we were handed thin light weight rings that were not our original rings at all. It wasn't until my husband broke down in the store realizing his late mothers wedding ring was stolen. Victor finally admitted to taking 11 grams of gold for profit and handed us a bag of gold shavings and apologized. Horrible business practices and would never send my worst enemy to this place. This is my first Yelp review...I had to do one for Victor. I had a broken vintage bangle bracelet with the prettiest piece of turquoise. I had it repaired by another jeweler and it broke again. I wanted to get the part of the bracelet soldered onto a new bangle to still be able to wear the turquoise. I asked my husband to have this done as my Christmas present, but he went to several jewelers who told him it could not be done. I gave my wife an old family engagement ring and we were able to bring it in and have Victor craft a custom wedding band to match it. The work was done within about a week, the final product was just what we hoped for, and the price was remarkably affordable, especially when compared to the quotes we received from a few other jewelers in the area. We also have some former jewelers in the family, who vouched for the quality of the diamonds and craftsmanship. I have since been back and had some other jewelry designed for a Valentines day gift and I was impressed again.
