First off, I love the cupcakes--they are amazing. Too much frosting, but the girls are always awesome about putting half the amount on that they normally do at my request. Red velvet with salted caramel frosting: AMAZING. That said, I'm confused when I read reviews about how nice Ida is! My family (whether just my husband, just me, or with our three children) has been in there easily 20 times in the last year and a half (since moving to Bend and discovering it) and I have never, not even ONCE, seen Ida offer even a smile to me or any other customer. She acts cranky and unfriendly, and her husband appears to be no better. This is not me waiting for someone to smile (which, you know, should be standard customer service in any sort of shop trying to make/keep customers), this is me offering a smile and a greeting and not getting ANY response in return. It's bizarre! The first few times, I thought maybe she was just having a bad day. But that appears to be EVERY day, as I've never seen her act otherwise. She does hire some friendly staff though! I think only one of them has been less than smiley, and that was a recent visit with Ida standing behind the counter with her. I can only guess she might not be the most fun to work for. The girls at the Galveston shop are rad. So after all of that, I continue to be a customer because I love their cupcakes, but the atmosphere is way happier and more enjoyable without the owners around! read more

When I was eating Vegan, Ida's cupcakes was where we got my birthday cupcakes and EVERYONE LOVED THEM!!! They do a great job and the people who work there are always super nice. It's a cute little shop which also caters to gluten free. My sister has Celiac Disease and we always get her a few cupcakes when she's in town. Her Celiac is severe, to the point where the smallest amount of gluten will upset her body, but she never has to worry about anything from Ida's. This is such a cute little cupcake shop! I brought my little girl here for her very first cupcake (1st birthday). You get to choose your flavor of cupcake and then a frosting to go on top. They then put "your" cupcake together for you. So much better than choosing a prefrosted cupcake out of a display window. I liked the selection of flavors, some traditional and some original. My cupcake was a "pray for snow"(like the 10barrel beer) cake with bourbon frosting. Very soft and full of flavor. I enjoyed this cupcake place. I must admit, I'm not a huge cupcake fan. The cupcake movement has taken the country by storm, much like self-serve frozen yogurt. I know it'll die out in a couple of years, but it doesn't stop me from trying a delectable treat when I'm in the mood for some delicious frosting. I didn't find Ida's to be all that spectacular, except for a few things which I found to be noteworthy... 1. They have a range of cupcake flavors to choose from. 2. The cupcakes are not pre-frosted. You can do a "mix and match" as it were, and select whatever cake flavor you want to go along with whatever frosting flavor you want. 3. They have gluten free and vegan options. 4. You can select between regular cupcake size or kid size, which is nice when you want a treat but not something super-sized. I also find the prices to be pretty reasonable. I like that you can choose the cupcake and then mix and match the icing. Cupcakes have the texture of muffins to me, and the icing is so sweet it hurts my teeth. I enjoyed the cream cheese icing and the coconut base. The bourbon butter cream really tastes like bourbon. I didn't like the eggnog base, it had too much nutmeg or cloves or allspice. We spoke with them about 2 months prior about a cake for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. They said no problem, contact us a week before. We tried and left at least 2 detailed messages but received no call back. We had to scramble to find a replacement cake at the last minute. Truly tasty cupcakes. The cake was fresh and moist. The buttercream was a tad sweet but creamy and good. I LOVED the lemon cupcake with lemon frosting. Omg. It was Ah-mazing!! Cakes are pricey but at least you get what you paid for. Next time I'd likely make a point to order "kidcakes" as they're a wee bit cheaper. Ok, this isn't my first review but I just can't say enough about how much I love Ida's! We're in town for a birthday bash and we had cupcakes made for the event. I called 2 days before and they were able to easily fulfill my order of 5 dozen, beautiful cupcakes. AND, they make the most awesome gluten-free and vegan versions. There was something for everyone and they were not only delicious, they were gorgeous! I've been into Ida's more times that I should admit and, every, single time has been a great experience. Seriously, if you're in Bend, you should really make one of her cafe's a destination. You won't regret it! read more

Great product, really not the vendor you want for events. We booked Ida's for our July wedding this year. We had a tasting in March to which the coordinator didn't come to. We paid deposit that day, gave our selections and numbers to the person who helped us and then never heard anything from them. Zero follow up from the coordinator. Zero information about their timing, process or payment expectations. I reached out to them in June (a month out) to finalize decor only to find out they didn't save any of my order info save that I had paid a deposit and the date. I was given a different contact number, asked to submit the order and told that follow up would be better contacting the coordinator directly. I followed their instructions, gave extremely detailed information and asked for a confirmation. Zero response. I waited another 5 days then called and cancelled due to lack of follow thru and lack of communication. This was the single most stressful experience of my wedding planning and I will never recommend this vendor to anyone. If you like good cupcakes, go in and have one in their shop. Nice product but they do not have any communication skills whatsoever and should not advertise for weddings if they can't communicate. It might have been better if they had been up front about their process and staffing problems from the beginning but they don't return phone calls, don't return emails and don't return text. I had no idea what my total was going to be less than a month out from my date and no trust that the product would be delivered on time. Worst of all, they only responded after I cancelled. Poor customer service and no professionalism. read more

It was ready in time on a Sunday morning, decorated in the perfect colors I asked for and everyone raved how fantastic the cake was even some who did not know it was gluten-free! The peanut butter cupcake was crumbly and tasted old. Not moist at all. Extremely disappointed. I ordered cream cheese frosting and it tasted very sugary and not creamy as you would expect cream cheese frosting to be. The gingerbread cupcake was dry as well. So disappointed, Ida used to be my go to place for cupcakes. I won't be visiting Ida's again. The cupcakes are great... i just wish the staff was a little friendlier. Everytime i go in its one of two ladies, probably in their 40s... and they just seem kinda cold and rude... like they want you to hurry up and leave asap. Its a shame because their lemon poppy seed cupcake with raspberry frosting was five stars all the way. And ive loved every sweet that I've ever gotten at ida's. This place is fantastic! Ida and her staff were friendly and outgoing to us. Ida chatted with a couple of us in our group from Eugene for quite a while. One of the guys pre-ordered his wife's faves and the staff even called ahead to let him know they were a little behind and to ask if that would be okay, which was greatly appreciated. I was traveling to Bend, from California, for a birthday party so I was entirely dependent on YELP to guide me to a cake bakery. The order from the birthday boy was chocolate, chocolate and chocolate. I ordered a cake to serve 15-20. It was a classic looking, multi-layer round cake, very old school.(a good thing) As I was ordering I realized we might have some folks who didn't want a chocolate bomb so I had a couple dozen MINI cupcakes thrown in. The cupcakes went kayaking with us and were divine. If I hadn't known that I had picked them up at 10 am I would have thought they were literally fresh from the oven at 6pm. Around 8pm we cut into the cake and again it was so incredibly fresh! There was chocolate bits in the cake, the frosting was ultra choclately and the cake served 14 with leftovers. The adults in the group RAVED about the cake and the kids simply wolfed it down. Without fail this is the place to get cakes or cupcakes. It's a tiny bakery, easy to miss and really cupcakes are their game. Cakes are special order. I arrived around 10:30 am and my order was packed and waiting for me. The cupcakes aren't bad, they are actually pretty decent but they just don't make up for the very rude an unwelcoming staff. The lady that served us did not welcome us, never smiled once, made us feel guilty for not paying with cash and seemed to be annoyed with the kids being in her store. I will not go back. For my birthday, my wife went to get us 2 cupcakes instead of baking a cake. After a few minutes she was greeted, asked what she wanted and she said " I want to order 2 cupcakes, the first is xxxxxxx type. The gal said ok and then began talking with other employees. 2-5 minutes pass with no further communication from any employee, my wife turned around and walked out. I'm sure they were all thrilled that they didn't have to do anything further except cash the paycheck on Friday. Too bad for Ida's. I hope others go somewhere else as well. read more

My husband and I decided to try Ida's today. He got the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and I got the chocolate with raspberry frosting. They were both delicious!!! I picked up two cupcakes for my fiance's 40th birthday and they were excellent! I went in as soon as they opened on Sunday to make sure the full selection was available - it just makes sense; it's a bakery, and I'm sure the goal is not to have a ton of leftovers at the end of the day. The prices were very reasonable for the huge size of the cupcake and they're generous with the frosting. They have cards and single candles to buy as well, which was super convenient. I got a Happy Birthday candle and the woman at the register threw in a cute little plastic "party hat" for the top of he cupcake for free. I have family coming to visit this upcoming weekend and we'll be sure to stop by with my four year old nephew - it will make his morning! read more
