The rude girl with her gross camel toe, too tight leggings, blonde pony tail, could have cared less when I told her I couldnt wait that long and that my daughter was going to be the only kid at her own birthday party without a cupcake. They ruined my daughter's birthday, I was able to find her vegan chocolate chip cookies at Trader Joe's last minute but it was not the same. But a phone call and multiple antagonizing emails from Idas resulted in a refund plus Ida left me with the impression that the cupcakes were shipped a day late so ida was making good on my timely order. Instead I am embarrassed by my twin 6 year old nephews who did not receive our gift. Bah humbug - in an economy driven by Covid 19 to receive such terrible customer service businesses like Idas do not deserve to remain operational! Shop anywhere else Autumns comments are utter nonsense - I was led to believe ida shipped the cupcakes but refunded my payment because they were shipped late. I remember when Ida's first opened in Bend, my mother and I were driving back from lunch and saw a sign for cupcakes so we stopped in. At the time it was a little space with not much of a store front and no room to sit. She only served cupcakes no coffee or teas. My mother and I each tried one and both of us loved what we ate. The next time I went back, I ordered 6 different flavors b/c I felt I needed to try all of them. Of course, I shared them with friends and husband. After the introduction to these naughty treats it became an addiction. Every time a certain group of my friends and I got together, we would stop at Ida's and pick up a half dozen or more cupcakes to share and we would each eat 1/4 piece - just for a taste. I remember the lemon and chocolate the most. But there was never a bad cupcake. Then I moved out of Bend so Ida's was a fond, distant memory to me. Even though I live in LA where cupcake shops are like coffee huts in Bend. There's Sprinkles, Crumbs, Frosted, Magnolia Bakery, and BabyCakes...just to name a few. From what I remembered, Ida's cupcakes are just as good if not better than some of these bigger places. I went back to Bend to visit a few weeks ago and I saw Ida's moved next to Ariana in the space that used to be Ariana's to-go lunch place. Of course, I could not leave Bend without eating one of these cupcakes, so I picked one up at Munch and Music. And not to my surprise her cupcakes were still just as good - super moist cake and good frosting that wasn't too sweet. The chocolate one has always been my favorite. It has little chips in it which I love. They are frosted to order so you have so many options and the prices are very reasonable. To me they are actually a steal (mini cupcakes at Ida's are $1 or less while the bigger cupcakes cost $2.50). In LA cupcakes have become way to trendy and expensive - a dozen minis will run you $30+ while a single bigger cupcakes costs $4.50 or more!!! Keep up the good work, Ida! read more

Disclaimer: I effing LOVE cupcakes. Rarr! Call me the cupcake monster! That said, I really like how unpretentious Ida's is. A "real" neighborhood place with seriously fresh, delicious cupcakes. I've been to many a cupcake shop and the coolest part about Ida's is that you don't just go in and pick from their pre-made selections. You pick the cake flavor and frosting flavor you want and they make it custom for you right on the spot. How sweet is that? My favorites so far: Strawberry cake (super moist and made with real strawberries) with Chocolate frosting & Lemon Cake with Raspberry Swirl Frosting... Formerly Le Cakery, the owner renamed this little bakery and moved it across the street on Galveston Avenue to a more visible space that also offers enough room for three small tables and some chairs for indoor seating. The website says that in addition to cupcakes, there are also rugelah, macaroons and some gluten free products. On our visit there were only cupcakes and that may have been due to the recent move as it appeared she was still trying to get settled in to the new space. A selection of cake flavors were posted on a big chalkboard along with a selection of frosting and glaze options. One gets to "mix and match" to create just the right combo for your sweet tooth and the cupcakes are available in large or small sizes. We each ordered a small cupcake, one pumpkin with cream cheese frosting and the other a key lime cupcake with coconut frosting. Both were tasty, the key lime flavor was particularly nice and tart, but the frostings on both seemed almost tooth achingly sweet. But it is frosting after all! So, not a criticism but an observation that our palates aren't quite in line. Tea and coffee are available, the latter good Bellatazza served in a pump pot on the front counter. We're not big consumers of cupcakes, so probably won't go back for that purpose. But we'll check back in to see if there are rugelach and macaroons available...among our favorite bakery treats...and maybe we can talk the owner into making hamentaschen too! Bend has a couple of good bakeries and one excellent bakery, but none make Jewish pastries and cookies - that would be a welcome addition for Bend. read more

Fabulous bakery with great customer service! I set up the order on the phone for a gender reveal party. They created the design I sent them a photo of perfectly and filled the center with a colored frosting (after someone else called with the baby gender). The cupcakes themselves were delicious and very filling. We got chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Yummy! So I thought, since they had done that design before that they could do it again. Guess not, what I got was a big joke and to think I paid a fair amount extra to have this special design. I was visiting Bend for a concert, and stayed at an Air Bnb on the Old Bend side of town. I was really in the mood for something sweet and after walking around my husband and I stumbled onto this place. I really liked that they make customized cupcakes. If you want chocolate on chocolate or vanilla on lemon, you can get whatever you want! Cute little shop, I went for chocolate and my hubby went for lemon. Ida's Cupcakes changed ownership within the past year or two and the quality has suffered. One of the things that I loved about the original Ida's was that her cupcakes were not too sweet. The new owners must have changed some of the recipes because now the icing is overly sweet, to the point that I have to scrape half of it off. I do applaud that they kept the same ordering system where you mix and match your cake and icing flavors but just wish they kept the recipes the same. read more

My husband and I were in downtown Bend and saw a van selling cupcakes. The girl selling them was so friendly and the cupcakes looked amazing. She told us that the actual bakery was right down the street and that they had more flavor options to choose from so we decided to give it a try. We were not dissapointed. They had nine flavors of cupcakes and nine kinds of icing. You can mix and match them to create the flavor you want. My husband picked the red velvet with cream cheese frosting. He said it was the best he had ever had. I chose a chocolate cupcake with orange chiffon icing. I love orange and chocolate together and this combination was amazing. The cupcake was dense and moist with little chocolate chips in it- SO chocolatey! yum! OK, I make all flavors of cupcakes myself, so I am VERY picky. I like to check out cupcake shops when we travel and get ideas. There were not any cupcakes on display, which I thought was odd. I get that they make them for each customer, but they should have had some in their case to help people decide and advertise their stuff. The flavor board was overwhelming to me. I ended up asking the girl what their best sold flavor is, and she recommended chocolate. So I got one "kid cake" with chocolate cake and caramel icing, and then one champagne cupcake. I didn't get to see what they looked like after decorated, and I paid $4. They gave me a takeout box, nothing special. They had cute cake boxes on display, but I guess you have to pay extra for those?? I got out to my car and opened the plain box. The cupcakes were smashed inside, icing all over the top. Such a bummer. Part of the appeal of a good cupcake is presentation. I could tell they had been nice, however, but Ida's should really consider adding a decent box into their overall price. It makes a difference when the goods look nice!! Now taste: The chocolate one was very, very moist, but not super chocolatey. It had chunks of chocolate chips, which I did NOT like, as they offset the texture of the cake and make a dsitraction (my husband liked them ok, though). The caramel icing was just ok...greasy from shortening and artificially flavored. That cupcake overall just just good, a step up from ok. The champagne cupcake was awful. It was fake flavored and the icing was an abnormal orange color, with silver sprinkles. We each only had one bite and tossed the rest. I know shops use shortening because it's cheap and holds up better than butter. I KNOW that there are alternative icings out there (I have several amazing recipes myself) that are all natural and taste amazing, holding up just fine to heat or whatever. They are more expensive to make and take longer, though. I guess the majority of Americans like the powdered sugar, easy, boring versions with fake flavors. I have had amazing cupcakes in bigger cities (Icing On The Cake, Los Gatos, CA and New Cascadia in Portland, to name a few). This place isn't anything special. read more

I am a fan of Ida's. My friend and I stop by occasionally for "cupcake dates." I've always been greeted and the service is decent. In addition to that, I like being able to choose my cake and frosting flavor. Some people mentioned having received a dry cupcake, but I have never experience that before. I'm not a fan of whiskey, but my boyfriend loves it. During the holidays I ordered him an eggnog cupcake with the bourbon buttercream and he still talks about it today. What a treat! Went in on a Friday afternoon with my kiddos and got some yummy cupcakes. What a nice surprise to find that we could "create" our flavor. I love the t-shirts here! They are so cute! The girls will frost each cupcake to order so they are very fresh, or you can order one out of their display case. There are two sizes- a small and a large. I ordered the chocolate cake with German choclate frosting. Since it is frosted to order the frosting was cold from the fridge.
