I picked the ramen spot based on reviews and the photos of the ramen. Ichiro Ramen stood out from the rest. This spot is about 40 mins outside of St. Louis and it was well worth the drive. It's located in a strip mall next door to a grocery store. The restaurant itself is small, yet does have plenty of seating to dine in. We were greeted and immediately sat down. We were asked if we wanted a table or booth. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, my friend ordered the seafood ramen extra extra spicy and mg other friend ordered the chicken fried rice since she's not a big fan of Ramen. The waitress brings out our food one at a time and the food looks and smells amazing. I taste my broth and it is chef's kiss all I did was add some hot chili oil for extra flavor and kick. My friend's seafood ramen looked so good snd you can tell hers was super spicy because how rich and deep the color red her broth was and she added a lot of hot chili oil to hers since she loves spice. My friend's chicken fried rice didn't look aesthetically appetizing, but she's said it was tasty. Ichiro is definitely up there as one of the best ramen spots I've been to, it's pretty close next to my favorite ramen spot is Sacramento, Ca Soku Ramen and they speaks volumes. read more

This is a smaller restaurant very intimate. They had a large menu with a lot of options for Ramen. I am doing 75. Hard and I met in my book club here so I did not order anything but I did have a small sheet when one of my friends ordered fried Oreos, they were so good. I only wish they did fried double stuffed Oreos and then put some powdered sugar on top. The Oreos were thin and no flavoring on the outside so kind of land but still a nice little treat. Had to go back, even though we were just there 3 days ago, took different family members. We did Crab Rangoon and Spring Roll appetizers, yummy!! Orange chicken and shrimp tempura tacos. Orange chicken is listed as hot, but was manageable as my family doesn't care for heat. We must talk about the tempura shrimp tacos. Perfection! Seaweed taco shells. After being outside in the cold for a bit, we were looking to warm up with ramen for dinner which led us to try Ichiro Ramen. It was the closest ramen place in the area we were. Our waitress was very friendly and provided great service. The menu is very extensive. My daughter ordered the pork gyoza for an appetizer. She liked the gyoza but said the sauce was ok. It was on the sweeter side, which she did not prefer. Their menu does not specify the type of ramen broth so I was glad I asked. Their broth is pork based but they will allow you to substitute to a vegetable or chicken broth. I chose the Ichiro chicken ramen and asked for the chicken broth and my daughter chose Chicken Katsu ramen prepared with the regular broth. Their ramen was just ok to us. It was honestly pretty bland. Not only was the broth bland but my chicken was pretty bland as well and some of my noodles were stuck together. My daughter said her chicken katsu was ok but seemed to have a sweetness to it as well. We tried to doctor them up with the soy sauce and chili oil on the table but it didn't really help. My daughter ordered the mango Mochi for dessert but it was frozen really hard making of difficult to eat. Because they have such a large menu, I would go back to see how other dishes compare. We stopped in for lunch. First noticed how clean and nicely decorated the restaurant was. We were immediately greeted with a smile and warm welcome. The service was very on point. I got a combo with miso soup, orange chicken and fried rice. Soup came out first, hot and comforting. We also had a Crab Rangoon appetizer which was delicious, hot, crispy, sweet, and creamy. After church today, we decided to treat ourselves to some post-sermon slurping at Ichiro, the new ramen spot that's practically within noodle-tossing distance from our house. Naturally, we couldn't resist comparing it to our reigning ramen champion--Nudo. Because when you've pledged loyalty to a bowl of broth, every new contender gets judged like it's auditioning for a Michelin star... or at least a spot in our weekly dinner rotation. Let's start with the soup--the soul of any ramen bowl. And I say "soul" because if ramen were a religion, broth would be the holy spirit. In this sacred category, Nudo still holds the crown. Their broth is thicker, richer, and tastes like it's been simmering since the dawn of time. Ichiro's soup was decent, but it didn't quite baptize my taste buds the way Nudo's does. I need my broth to whisper secrets of umami and possibly my future. Ichiro's just said, "Hi." Next up: wait time. At Ichiro, we waited a solid 15 minutes, which isn't bad unless you've got hangry kids or a spouse who starts eyeing the decorative plants like they might be edible. Nudo, on the other hand, is like the ramen version of NASCAR--food arrives in under 5 minutes, and you're slurping before you've even finished saying "extra napkins, please." BUT--and this is a big, steamy, pork-belly-sized but--Ichiro has its own set of wins. It's cheaper (which means more money left over for dessert or gas), the menu is massive (I think they even had ramen with corn, which feels illegal but intriguing), and the ambiance is surprisingly classy. Like, "I could host a business lunch here and still order gyoza" classy. It's also way bigger than Nudo, so you're less likely to elbow someone mid-noodle lift. And the serving size? Let's just say I left with a belly full of broth and no regrets. Plus, it's close to home. Like, dangerously close. Like, "we might start going here every time someone in the house says the word 'noodle'" close. So yes--we'll definitely be back. We were very happy to see a Ramen restaurant going into the former Mandarin Garden location. My family had been going to Mandarin Garden since they opened in the early 80s and it was strange to walk in and see something else there. The menu is a lot larger than we expected and is Ramen heavy, but also has a lot of other options such as hibachi, Chinese (General Tao's chicken, Lo Mein, etc.), and Poké bowls to name a few. I've been twice so far. Once solo and tonight with a friend. Service on both nights was exceptional. Phillipe is an awesome server and so was our waitress tonight (don't remember her name). Our drinks were never less than half empty and they both checked back on us multiple times. So, why three stars? Well, I've had a lot of Ramen in St. Louis and outside of St. Louis and I would say this is very middle of the road. It's good, but it's not craveable. Although this is a chain, I was hopeful for a more homemade tasting ramen broth. Their ramen is very noodle heavy with far less broth than others I've had. The broth is good, but not as flavorful as I would like. It doesn't have the umami flavor of a really long simmer. Both benefited from adding a touch of chili oil that is available on the table. I ordered more broth for $3 so I would have enough for leftovers to go with the noodles that were left. The noodles were OK. Not made in-house. The soft boiled eggs were cooked perfectly but were not marinated - even so, they were the highlight. Of the two I tried, the Tonkatsu Ramen was my favorite. My friend ordered the shrimp dumpling Ramen, and she said it was not very flavorful and the shrimp dumplings were rubbery. She said it was fine but she wouldn't order it again. We both agreed that the bamboo shoots tasted odd and we picked them out of our bowls. The fish cakes in my bowl were the thinnest fish cakes that I've ever seen. They were like shaved fish cakes. LOL. The crab Rangoon were perfect and we would order again. The soup dumplings were good and 75% of them had ample broth, but 25% of them were missing broth. I had to request a spoon. This restaurant is close to home and has a big enough menu that I will be back to try more items. They also offer milk teas with Boba (classic & popping), fruit teas, mochi and other desserts. I'm looking forward to trying the Poké bowls next. They gutted the old restaurant and completely redid it and the bathrooms are 1000% nicer than they were before and the interior of the restaurant is modern and very comfortable. There are two different seating areas and one is a few steps down. The lower level has a glass door that is permanently locked and has a table next to it. The door is not sealed correctly and there is a cold breeze flowing into the room, so don't sit at the table right next to that door or you will be cold. The food looks and smells very good, but my entree was not prepared as i anticipated - a more detailed menu would help. What i thought would be sauteed came dredged in flour and deep fried. I ate the side of "ok" fried rice and took my entree home for my son to eat. He reported the tofu very good but the tonkatsu ramen as, "eh". A lovely contemporary Asian restaurant has moved into the old Mandarin Garden location in the Schnucks Plaza. It was quite busy when I entered. I was pleasantly surprised that my take-out order was ready even before the promised time. The ambience is a feast for the eyes. It's bright, and colorful. It seems like a great spot for a date night. They share the parking lot with other businesses and there is plenty of parking. We ordered our food as takeout on this visit. The miso soup was better than average. The side salad was quite plain and nothing special. My dining companion gave the General Tso's chicken a 7/10. What I was really impressed by was the customer service. I was greeted immediately by three different employees when I entered the restaurant, and they were very attentive and friendly while I was there. I vomited violently after eating delivery from here. We ordered two combo plates and edamame; Hibachi Chicken and General Tso's Chicken. Both with fried rice and miso soup. The edamame was good, but lacked enough salt. The miso was typical, but the broth tasted watered down, and the portion wasn't what I was expecting. While I was still eating the Hibachi Chicken, my stomach felt a little strange. I got nauseous very quickly, and shortly thereafter, I watched all the rice I just ate go from my mouth into the toilet rather forcefully. BTW - and I know this is a lot of gross information - I vomit like, once or twice a year. I don't get sick from alcohol, I'm not on any crazy meds, everything else I ate was normal, usual. And I felt better immediately afterwards. That's the long way of saying it... The short way of saying it is eating food from this restaurant made me very sick. Aside from the puking, the fried rice was nothing to write home about. There were just a few scattered pieces of egg in it - and it lacked flavor. Usually, it's a darker color, but this fried rice was very light colored. The veggies were just ok. Mushrooms, zucchini, onion; the usual characters. There wasn't much chicken in the dish, but in hindsight, I guess that's good? It had zero flavor or seasoning. No richness to the sauce. Bland. After reading the menu I ended up ordering the Super Ichiro Ramen (Pork, chicken charshu, bamboo shoots, seasoned egg, green onion, fish cake, spinach, black garlic oil) and a drink. There were a number of people in here and I was watching some of the other food come out. The appetizers I saw appeared to be your basic bagged frozen dumplings. The ramen looked nice when it came out. This was marketed as spicy with a little pepper near it on the menu but I would not call it spicy. Even the chili oil on the table didn't really add much heat. I enjoyed the broth and the pork. I though the chicken was a little plain. I did not think the black garlic oil had any flavor at all if it was there. All in all this is a fine choice if you have to have ramen in St. Charles but I'd prefer to skip it and have something better on the mainland. Service is friendly. read more

I dropped in to Ichiro Ramen for lunch after a movie on a Saturday, upon arrival I was immediately greeted and seated by a friendly staff, and drink orders were swiftly taken. The dining area was split level with both booths and tables, full windows lit much of the restaurant, which was especially nice during this mostly sunny day. I ordered a matcha milk tea and honey dew milk tea without boba, which were fantastic tasting, not too sweet. I ordered soup dumplings, tuna sushi tacos, edamame and a pork bun for appetizers, the soup dumplings were solid and provided a good chew, the pork bun was fluffy and the chashu was melt in the mouth good, the Tuna on the Tuna Tacos was somewhat too sweet, however the fried nori shells were pleasant, and the edamame was steamed and salted well. The chicken katsu don was well seasoned and perfectly crispy, the katsu was not too soft or hard and the chicken was moist, the ajitama was a truly nice touch that elevated the donburi experience, the steamed rice was an average medium grain, the Unagi Don was well seasoned with full cuts of unagi smothered in unagi sauce, the pairing with their fried rice added a nice combination of flavor, the fried rice wasn't overly complicated with unnecessary fillers, primarily flavored with eggs, soy sauce, and sesame notes, the only criticism I have of the donburi was the bed of cabbage, which isn't typical of a donburi and could have lead to soggy bottoms of the katsu, which wasn't the case in this instance due to the freshness and swiftness of our server Emily, however if you order a katsu don online I would suggest asking for no cabbage or cabbage on the side to avoid potentially compromising the crispness of the katsu. I also ordered an oreo bingsu and mango bingsu, both were sweet melt in your mouth treats, the added whipped cream was a little indulgent and too sweet for my taste, but if you're looking for something sweet I highly suggest trying the bingsu here. My wife and I went here for a dinner around 6:30 pm. The restaurant was very crowded but we were able to get a table immediately. The restaurant is decorated well. There were a lot of servers and three of them came to our table for our order. We ordered the Gyoza pork. It was pretty good but could have cooked more evenly. We ordered the Super Ichiro Ramen and the Beef Don. It took a very long, around 30 minutes for our food. They were both good but we would have liked to have more vegetables in both of them. Sweet and sour dipping sauce had great flavor and wasn't overly sweet. Gyoza were pretty standard - unfortunately halfway through the ordered I went to pick one up and saw a very black and long hair on one of them. As I and my dining companion are both blonde I knew for certain this wasn't our hair. Manager came out quickly when I brought this up to the waiter. She was very apologetic, offered to make us a new batch (which I declined) and she took it off the bill. She immediately went back and addressed with the kitchen (we heard her) so we will let this slide this one time. Ramen was good and plentiful. After a snowy cold week, this was the PERFECT take out for my family. I've had the Ramen at the Telegraph location and it was just okay but the Ramen at this location was spectacular! Great flavor with all the fixings! Take out was really quick and even packaged in a nice bag so everything wouldn't spill out. Plus the young gentleman at the front was so welcoming. Very disappointed. I had high hopes but it was a miss. My husband's spicy ramen wasn't spicy and had no depth of flavor. My Hawaiian bowl seriously had as much tuna as one nigiri, two cucumbers, three tiny chunks of canned pineapple and a scoop of canned corn. There was no shortage of over powering red onions, however. The miso soup was forgettable and the hot tea was tepid at best. There are too many good Asian places to waste your money here. read more
