This review is based on the bubble tea alone. I ordered the brown sugar boba milk tea for myself and a taro milk tea for my friend. My friend said she liked hers and that it was really sweet. The rice may look plain, but the seemingly invisible/minimal sauce really does the job. The chicken katsu wasn't too fried and the perfect texture. I'd recommend the Chicken Steak over the Kara-age. 5-star food, but service brought my experience down to 3 stars. My complaint is regarding my experience as someone allergic to dairy. I wanted to order the Tiramisu Boba Tea, and I double checked with the worker at the counter (gave off manager vibes) to ensure that the drink would be dairy free. She said it was. I then ordered into the kiosk and added a note of my allergy just in case. Thankfully, the worker making my drink came up and let me know that the drink does have dairy due to the cheese on top. The original worker was called back up, and she said they could make it without it and just add the chocolate and cocoa powder that came with the drink. Um what?? What frustrated me was that she wasn't sorry at all about misinforming me when I directly asked about an allergy, and then proceeds to suggest items that contain dairy. I ordered the deep blue drink and the pork tonkatsu. Both was very mediocre. Tonkatsu is usually sweeter and the breading for the pork is crispy. The tonkatsu that I had tasted like it had mochi breading and the sauce was saltier than it should. The drink was pretty to look at but just tasted like milk. This was the cutest little restaurant! When you walk in your eye immediately goes to the sitting area. They make your seating feel in closed and private. They have plants infront of the tables to help this feeling. They have cushions and pillows for the booth. They also have cute little plushies all over that you can buy. The salmon ikura bowl in the picture on the menu was full of ikura. However, on my bowl, I had 7 little ikura (salmon roe), and yes, I counted them. The salmon and ikura were both not too fresh at all. Their food used to be great, but has steadily declined in quality over the last three years. I used to like this place, and when it first opened, I told the owner that I'd gladly tell all my friends and colleagues about it, and I really did, with some of them immediately making a beeline to head there to eat. I have been here twice during covid. I have tried their Okinawa milk tea 50 percent sugar and mountain high tea at 25 percent sugar with boba and grass jelly. I paid second time online and noticed 1.50 convenience charge so my drink was 8.56???? That's a lot for milk tea. I called them and they told me that they charge that for online orders and that I can call in to avoid that charge. Their boba is chewy and good. Let me explain that the bubble tea is pretty nice and the decor and vibes are cute! But the food and service are very hit and miss. If I could give a few suggestions to the establishment as constructive criticism, I would love to. And I hope it's not taken the wrong way. This is to help your business be more successful. 1. Welcome people when they enter. Serve them right away. Don't let them rely on the computer menu or just their phones to order. 2. Seat people. Take their order. Have drinks with ice that you can refill for them. They may even stay longer and order more if they're enjoying the atmosphere! 3. Have physical menus as well as online menus, with photos of how the food actually looks (not just stock photos) so people aren't surprised when they get something that looks different. 4. If something gets undercooked, overcooked or burnt, don't serve it. Your customer won't return if you've put a bad taste in their mouth. 5. Change out your oil often to avoid that "old oil" taste. Nobody likes that. 6. While your takoyaki and tempura selections are very authentic, your karaage is not. To avoid disappointment from your customers you should research how this is made. I came to HITEA for a quick bubble tea fix about 20 minutes before they closed with a group of ladies on our "ladies' night out". Word of advice: don't come here a half hour before closing time! After 3 of us ordered bubble tea, they completely ran out of bubbles (boba), so everyone else in line had to order non-boba drinks. I tried the creme brulee "bu lei roasted" bubble tea, which was delicious, creamy, with a layer of condensed milk lining the inner circumference of the cup ,and had boba with the perfect chewy sweetness I was craving, but the cup was SUPER small. Since they were running out of boba, there was barely any boba in the bottom of my drink. I was disappointed that the creme brulee tea, which cost $5.35, was only about 60% the size of the other milk teas like taro milk tea, which cost less at $5.00. Their menu needs to specify that it's a smaller cup than the other teas they serve. Kung Fu Tea on Delmar has bigger cups AND lower prices. The interior is adorbs, bright, and cutely decorated with trendy pink chairs and succulent wall art as well as a butterfly mural wall. I didn't try any of their food but the ramen seemed a bit pricey compared to Nudo House or other ramen places I've been to. Hi Tea is located on Olive Blvd in Chesterfield. It is a cozy Asian cafe perfect for casual catchup and conversations. The cafe is pretty quiet both times l visited during lunch time. The service was attentive and the ramen ordered was fulfilling. The bubble tea, though, seems alright to me. Pricing is reasonable. What I would recommend: I like both the fried chicken ramen ($12) and the beef shank ramen ($13). My coworker ordered tonkatsu ramen ($13), which looks very well made as well. If you were to order the chicken ramen, I would suggest having the servers serve the chicken on the side (rather than sitting in the soup). As far as the bubble tea ($5), I am pretty picky of using real tea leaves to brew them, on top of having a choice of sugar and ice level. I would order them a second time. read more
