I came in yesterday with a friend not knowing anything about this place before entering other than my friend had this on her "wants to visit" list in St. Louis. After eating here it's easy to see why it made it onto her list. The place itself is kept immaculately clean, it appears to be in a newer strip mall which are typically devoid of any character but they've managed to get some character in this place with the decorations and the wall paintings and such, it's very cute. I ordered the Mapo Tofu Don which was nicely spicy and delicious and would 100% order again, the meal was great. We even had a worker come over and ask how the meal was, which is really nice as it's sort of a casual take-outish place. So long story short, would 100% come back. Came for lunch during my birthday weekend! The interior decoration is so cute, very bright and pink. When you walk in, there's the counter for boba orders and then a smaller table that had a QR code to scan for the menu. It was a bit confusing because no one seated us or told us we had to seat ourselves and order from the table until after we were just standing there for a while. We picked a table and sat down then ordered from the table with the QR code provided. While the wait for our food was understandable, we didn't get our drinks until halfway through our food AND having to wait in line to ask for it ourselves; turns out our drinks have been ready long ago and were accidentally placed in a bag for an order pick up... besides that, the drinks and food were superb!! I live REALLY close to HiTea and I had never been. Turns out they have a really large food menu as well as boba tea! I ordered the Pork Katsudon (a bowl of rice topped with deep fried pork cutlet, egg, onion, and condiments.) My dinner date ordered the Wonton Ramen which consisted of broth, noodles, wontons, the runny egg, narutomaki, and corn. I didn't try the ramen dish but she was happy with it. The pork katsudon was well cooked but when they listed "condiments" the only thing I really noticed on there was some sweet soy on the rice. Everything was tasty but maybe just slightly boring. It could have used a punch of something like sriracha or kimchi or something to liven it up. You scan a QR code at the table and place your order but you can pay at the counter after they bring you your food and you eat. There was nowhere to order water so we had to go up to the counter and ask for it. No one ever offered refills or checked on us and when they brought the food we had to ask for silverware and chopsticks and napkins. It was just a little confusing and not clear. I have ordered HITEA on doordash a few times and finally made it out to their location. They have a table at the entrance for distancing and it was a little unclear how I pick up my online order. Someone came up to the register further away at the restaurant and I yelled out my order to him. This time I got a love you so matcha latte which was flavored with strawberry. I also added cream cheese topping (I feel like all the best bubble tea places over this!). Not overly fruity but nicely sweet. Honeydew Milk Tea: Honeydew adds a refreshing, summery taste to the traditional milk tea. Honeydew gives much more of a fruity vibe than the Mango does. Came in on a Monday with a friend. There were a couple of people there already, and more people came in as the day went on. We were given the option of ordering drinks or dining in, so we decided to dine in and try their food. They handed us two menus, one for drinks and another for ramen and rice bowls. There's several options for seating, such as intimate booths and tables further in the restaurant, or a well-lit, comfy and cushioned area with a cute neon sign closer to the front. The decor is super cute! It's a very good place to come and take pictures--both the food and environment are aesthetically pleasing. I shared a Tonkotsu Ramen with my friend, and we ordered two teas, the Red Jade Milk Tea and the Lemon Galaxy Flower Tea. Price wise, it's not the cheapest, but it's within the average price range of food within the area, and considering how we're paying for both the food and experience it's more than reasonable. Drinks were around $3-$6, food hovered around $13 with a few exceptions--lobster ramen, jumble (jumbo?) ramen, and an eel rice bowl. We had just enough time to admire the interior decorations before our food arrived. Other reviews mentioned waiting an absurd amount of time before being served, but thankfully that didn't happen to us. The drinks arrived first and tasted super flavorful. I liked the boba too; it wasn't too soft or undercooked. The ramen was absolutely stunning. It tasted surprisingly decent too. I half expected the food to only look pretty and taste average, but it exceeded my expectations. The broth was tasty, the noodles had a nice chew, and the pork and other toppings were delicious. Yay! Also, did I mention how pretty everything is at this location? What a rip off. I ordered the tonkatsu bowl to go and tea. They were out of boba so I had to switch to another drink. It was really good until I was on my drive home and my stomach started cramping. A couple of hours later I feel up to eating. Finally pop open my food to discover two pieces of fatty pork and one huge chunk of fat. They were laying on a handful of spring mix next to four cucumber slices and two pieces of broccoli. Under that was about two cups of white rice. The flavor if the sauce and the pork is honestly amazing. With that said, not worth the $25 with tax and tip. Considering they have been open a month and already have half of their menu scratched out and hand written prices that are higher than printed, I think that even if I felt like giving it another go I would have to do it very soon. TL:DR - Terrible watered down bubble tea. Boba inconsistent. Food, however, is AMAZING though. Pulled beef rice bowl is one of my fave. Huge portion of Eel and Fish. Some dishes they'll skimp on the meat though (pork tonkatsu and beef shank rice bowls). Personally, I think their bubble tea is terrible. Like genuinely bad. It often has a watered down flavor and the boba is inconsistent. The only reason I feel that people get the drinks is because it's super instagrammable. So why does this place get 4*'s then? Because their food is amazing! Like normally bubble tea places focuses on their bubble tea and food is just something they have on the side just because. But the thought and care they put into their food, blew me away. Like I come here over 90% of the Chinese places in stl. I have yet to get anything here I have not LOVED. I have gotten their pulled beef rice bowl several times, and it has been consistently delicious. Their eel rice bowl has a HUGE chunk of eel. The only thing I'll say is that they can skimp on their meat for several of their dishes, particularly on the tonkatsu and beef shank rice bowls. It's like they took the portion of meat they would normally give you for ramen, and put that same amount in the rice bowl. So if you only get three slices of pork belly for ramen (which is typical), they also only give you three slices for your rice bowl, which seems like a rip off. I will say that each time I've gone, I've gotten the same server who is super friendly, so not sure what other people are talking about. They serve ramen and rice bowls for food and this is absolutely the best place for ramen/rice bowls I've found in the STL area (I've been to the highest rated ramen spot in STL and it doesn't compare). They don't have Boba ready for store open, you have to wait an hour for them to cook and prepare. I suggest that they should prepare everything before store open hour. I got takeout today - I had the beef-shank ramen, we had an order of Ten Don, an order of gyoza and an order of Kara-age (Japanese fried chicken). To start, my beef shank ramen was ok. Not terrible, but about a 5 on the flavor scale. It wasn't bad, but not something I'd order again. The gyoza were decent and the chicken was pretty good, although the sauce had an odd flavor. The thing that really sunk the boat was the Ten Don. The description said "Golden crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura served over steamed rice." We re-crisped the tempura in our air fryer since it was take out, but it had very little flavor. Also, there were only 2 shrimp and FIVE baby octopi. The description said nothing about octopus. We actually ended up pitching it. Their boba teas look amazing and they are called HITEA, so I think if I go back I'll just try a boba tea. read more

COVID REVIEW... Challenging times during the pandemic but HITEA has done it right. First of all their website and online ordering is SUPER easy. You can pay online so you don't even have to pay when you are there. They give you an estimate time of pick up so it is very easy to plan a pick up time for your carry out. Ok I have only ordered bubble tea but I have done it at least 4-5 times. Their selection is phenomenal. You can add jelly, lychee and a whole host of items. Prices are moderate but ok considering the size. Overall all our orders have been perfect. I am partial to adding the lychee and jelly so try it if you haven't yet. I have talked to them about their food and am looking forward to trying their food items sometime soon. I can't wait for this pandemic to end so I can comfortably dine in.
