This place was worse than I remembered... -Pork Cutlet: WTF is this??? Why do you call it a CUTLET if you're going to serve me a deep fried ground pork patty instead? It basically reminded me of those over processed chicken nuggets you find in the freezer aisle that have the texture of cardboard. The only difference? Good, because I would've sent this bland lukewarm liquid back. -Sashimi: Tuna and albacore were fishy, the salmon was fatty and fresh though. -Amaebi Sushi: Good deal for a bit under $8 for 2 nigiri. Sushi (and all related dishes) is my favorite thing to eat. However, sadly the sashimi and rolls at Ichima did not satisfy my cravings. Everything tasted very average and I felt like there was something missing from each dish. The texture of the salmon in the sashimi felt a little off as well...not sure if we came on an off day. They did have really good service though to make up for the mediocre tasting food. If you tell them it's your birthday, they will play a loud celebratory song instead of singing happy birthday like a lot of other restaurants do. If you want to eat somewhere that will make you feel special for your birthday, this is probably a good place to go. However, I felt the birthday songs really took away from my dining experience here. Not sure if I was just seated right next to the speakers or something, but the birthday music was SO ridiculously loud. It's impossible to hear the person across the table when the song is playing without yelling. This wouldn't be an issue if it just happened maybe once or twice, but the song played multiple times throughout our meal so I feel like our conversation was constantly interrupted. Towards the end I started to get a headache every time the song played. I swear the music was louder than at the club. Overall, mediocre food and a super annoying birthday song. I probably wouldn't suggest coming here unless you want to celebrate your birthday. Both orders were prepared in a bento box with salad and miso soup to with the lunch main selections. The chicken was very tender and tasty. The teriyaki sauce was right on the note with sweetness and saltiness. I love their California roll. I felt this is better than the one from next door. Even though we didn't have a chance to try out their sashimi, they looked amazing from the food in the next table. We will definitely come back to try them out. This is a hidden gem that I always passed by and I never had the chance to try it. My sister and I went there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in a June. The exterior is covered with white tent. I was able to find parking in partial shade. We got seated right away in a booth as we were greeted by sushi chefs. Inside decor looks like old Japan decor with lots of booths and tables in the middle. My waitress was nice and took our drinks and food. I ordered ABC meal-beef teriyaki, California roll, gyoza. We didn't wait too long. Everything looked so pretty in a bento tray. The beef in teriyaki sauce was tender and delicious, the salad was tasty, gyoza was fried nicely with a scoop of rice, and the California roll was freshly made. It was plentiful and the price was around 13.75 for lunch. The tempura that came with it was delicious. The beef was pretty well flavored and cooked. The sushi cuts that came with it were perfect. They were perfect temperature. I dislike when I eat sashimi or sushi and it's cold. It's not supposed to be cold, it's supposed to be close to room temperature, and when it is, it just melts in your mouth. And this place had it perfect. The Salmon Teriyaki that I order for the Bento Combination is definitely the best choice overall because of the eel sauce that they put onto my Salmon Teriyaki taste real good and amazing! For appetizers we got fried calamari (overcooked, possibly refried or fried too long), baked mussels (nice how it's a smaller portion), and seaweed salad (which comes with more seaweed than salad compared to the menu photo). We had a combo with chicken teriyaki (dry), sushi, and mixed tempura (decent, but broccoli was mushy). Their California roll was fresh and the smelt eggs are a good size for the price (5.45). Will definitely be back for the food, but I must say that we spent a lot of time trying to flag a server (or any employee), and we had the wrong food delivered at least once (maybe twice) so it seems like they either have new employees who need extra training or ...something. This is a place I've been coming to ever since I was a kid, I am now 29. Sad to say I don't wanna step foot here anymore. Quality has went down tremendously and service is terrible. They don't answer the phone and when you try to order through a 3rd party, they don't start making the food until you arrive at the location, which adds about 45 minutes to the 45 minutes you already waited when you originally ordered. They have ONE manager that takes 2 days off in the week, so for those 2 days she's off they have no one managing the place. The chefs are choosing how fast or slow they work and choosing which rolls they feel like making. I watched one of the nice young ladies have to raise her voice at the chef because he was doing what he felt like and he literally shooed her away. Ridiculous. I've been going to Ichima for years. The quality is great and the service has gotten better every year. Especially now! They continue to have great service and great food. The signature sushi rolls are ginormous. If you get a bento box, those are pretty big as well. There's a ton of parking available, but if you go during a busy time may have to walk a little bit. The vibes are great and they have monitors usually broadcasting a sporting event with no audio. No complaints. read more
