Ok, not very good. Sushi was not the best, not even very good. We had a mix of fish. Salmon was good, but other options where clearly previously frozen, so you end up with a watery taste to the fish. The rice was chewy, most likely a left over from the prior day. Service was good, very friendly. Just, the food was mediocre, while priced at close to what I would pay for really decent sushi in Pasadena or LA. So, not really worth a second visit. read more

went to visit my brother this weekend and he took us here for dinner one night, to be honest I wasn't expecting much...it is Tehatchapi after all...BUT it was pretty amazing. The chefs are really outgoing and friendly(ours made us these little deep fried tuna balls that were sooo good!!!) there were a lot of rolls and sushi to choose from(which also surprised me) Not all the rolls were Cali rolls and just crap piled on top! If the tuna balls had been on the menu those definitely would be the best dish of the night. The eel sushi fell apart easily, which is the ONLY complaint i have.For the size of the rolls i'd say the price is good(around $10-$13) The 911 roll, Jessica, Dragon I really don't even remember what else we ordered because by then i was in a food coma...a wonderfully awesome food coma. read more

Went here with a friend of mine a couple of times, pretty darn good sushi. The staff were very friendly, but a little scarce, had to chase down our waitress for refills. I had a sushi roll (can't remember the name) it was pretty good; fresh and flavorful. My friend had the beef teriyaki, and she says the meat was tender and had that good ol' teriyaki kick. Both times we've been here have been without incident and we enjoyed our meals, its a little hole-in-the-wall sushi place that I recommend to anyone who is picky about their fish. read more

Was not happy with this place! Ordered the fillet and shrimp and was what fish I wanted? The salad came with a blob of something on it couldn't be salad dressing. The vegetables were sautéed in soy sauce? The meat was not a fillet! A fillet is not round! I am in tehachapi twice a month and look for different places to eat . I have to say I am not impressed. I came for lunch on a weekday at about noon. The restaurant is clean and the service was fine. The presentation of the food was nice. I got what would typically be a bento box lunch. They serve theirs on a huge oversized plate well decorated. The food itself was meh. The teriyaki chicken sauce was good but the chicken was overcooked and dry. I needed water to wash it down. The rice on the spicy salmon roll was hard, like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while, and now that I think about it, it wouldn't surprise me if the chicken was already cooked and reheated. Thats how bad it was. The vegetable tempura was fine, however. Overall not good food at an expensive price. The total for that was $14.55. I definitely had better for less $. I will not be going back. I should have just gone to Del Taco. Their chicken is better.. read more

My husband and I have gone here often and the service is great every time. Like other yelpers have mentioned, the Jessica Roll is probably the best thing on the menu. It's reasonably priced and is by far one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. It's a must every time we go there. We've had almost all the rolls there and they are all delicious (spicy tuna tempura is really good). The restaurant is clean and very well decorated. The sushi chefs prepare the sushi right at the bar and the staff is very friendly. Every time we go in, they greet us and spend some time talking to my daughter (she's 17 months). And, one of my favorite things about this specific restaurant is how family friendly they are. My daughter tends to make a mess every time we go (she's a baby with rice, it's expected) and whenever my husband or I try to clean it up off the floor, one of the waitresses comes over and tells us no that she will take care of it. Always a smile on their faces and laughter ringing through the building. The only thing about Ichiban Sushi that we aren't fans of is their overly priced teriyaki chicken. My grandma paid something like $14 for a scoop of chicken, scoop of rice and four very tiny pieces of spicy tuna sushi. It was good, but not enough food for the price. Stick to the sushi and you won't be disappointed. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. We got there and ordered drinks, 2 cokes and a sprit. When we tried them the were completely flat. We told the waitress and she replaced my drink with a flavored tea and my husband with a sprite. When he tasted his sprite it was carbonated water. So we tried my sons sprite that he had ordered and it too was carbonated water. So the waitress gave my son and husband flavored teas. We were finally satisfied with drinks at that point. The food was very bland and not very good. Tempura was whatever and the dipping sauce was cold and too salty. The rolls were the best thing on the menu but nothing great. The teriyaki chicken was overly salty. Not sweet what so ever. We asked for refills and when we got our teas back they tasted like regular unsweetened tea. So they messed up the drinks again. We got our bill and the total was $67 and my husband paid the bill without really looking over the itemized bill. So I asked to see the itemized bill and the only thing they showed were the 2 rolls. When I questioned the waitress she would look it over and she came back with a bill for $55. She said that they charged us for all the drinks we had sent back and that it was a miscommunication. Anyways, I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I ate here while on a business trip. The food was fairly good for sushi and the prices average. I ordered the Jessica Roll and a Spicy Tuna Hand Roll. I asked the chef if he could use regular tuna as opposed to spicy and he obliged. My issue with this place was when I went to order an additional roll - this time from the waitress - she informed me that there would be a $2 upcharge for this. I was like "are you kidding me?". I have eaten in a ton of sushi places and have never been charged for not wanting my tuna spicy. I realize that $2 is not a lot of money - however it was a third of the price of the roll added. Ridiculous! When I complained - she didn't want to discuss it. Her loss - she got her $4 but lost the $12-$15 tip I would have left! And she got a very unhappy customer - one that will not go back and one that every time I am in the area will be sure to mention the lack of good customer service I received as Im having a beer with the locals. read more

This is our second favorite Sushi restaurant. Love to folks there and food is always good. Good size sushi as well as sashimi pieces. Always get the all tuna sashimi. Hawaii roll is great. We have never been disappointed. I like the lemon zest dressing for the salad. Very tasty, and good for a summer type salad. Also like the girls working, they always remember how i like my sauces and always have them ready when my sushi comes out. Great food and even greater service. Went here for lunch it was reasonably priced. I had the lobster roll it could have been a little lite on the mayo. The assorted tempura was excellent hot crunchy and a lot for the price. My friend had the ninja roll says it's really spicy on the menu but it isn't don't be afraid to try it out! Would recommend the ninja to anyone! read more

Did a search on Yelp & saw they had good reviews, so i came here to try it & wasn't sure what to expect. Wow! this place surprised me! Yeah!!! This is a great alternative if you are not in the mood to drive all the way to Big Tuna in Lancaster or Palmdale. My boyfriend will swear that the Jessica Roll is the best thing from here and from what I can tell, not many people would beg to differ. We always see a bunch of them being made when we are there. Well I have been eating Sushi for about forty years. Started in Japan when I was in the Navy. I have lived both in Santa Barbara, and Hollywood so I have had some incredible Sushi experiences in both those places which have a multitude of Sushi bars to choose from. So now I live in Tehachapi. up till recently there was only one choice....OK but nothing to write home about. Then comes Ichiban. So sorry to say that this place has gone way downhill! Today I went there for lunch. I ordered teriyaki chicken and California roll. Chicken was extremely dry and over cooked. Roll was gooey. I told The food server. Although they replaced the chicken it came back the same. The furniture is in very poor condition. I pulled out my chair and it came apart. I got another one and it was the same. I reported it to a server and she just placed them under the table next to me with no concern for safety. I say stay away. Go to Mindori or Kasagiri instead. It was a simple question but I was passed to three different people seeking an informal answer that no one wanted to respond to. Passing thorough Tehachapi on our way to Woodward west. Stopped in for some sushi and was a lil worried that it was not a busy place. 7pm on a Friday night, and pretty stoked on the food quality. The spicy baked lobster was killer. Tepan style Steak & chicken with veggies was flavorful with good texture. Service was attentive and super friendly. Space is open and clean. I've been here several times with my boyfriend, who is a sushi fanatic, and as much as he loves the place, there is not much for the vegetarian/vegan variety. When I go there to get their vegetable rolls it's a hit or miss. A lot of time there is WAY too much rice in the rolls and what I consider a staple for this type of rolls, rarely has enough avocado. So, I think it's great for the meat eaters, but others, it's a hit or miss. read more

My serious favorite sushi ever! I travel out of town for work and I still love Ichiban the best. The burrito roll and mango roll are my favorite. The servers are very nice and efficient.
