However each of us start pick out our selection and sat down to take a bite. The food was cold, we are feel weird and decided to leave. We pay full price and let the manager know that the food was bad and we are not satisfied. Ichiban Buffet has a wide variety of food from, a salad bar, a sushi bar, and a hot plate bar. Their service is a 10/10, and they get your drinks, and let you get your food, and their always really nice. This is a really good buffet. They have over 100 items. We had a large group and 1 gluten free, 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan. My dad went to all the big buffets in Springfield and this was the one that had the most choices for those individuals. My Friend and I stopped in hoping for some good food but we what got instead was mediocre at best. Went on a friday and thought there would be crab legs but there were hardly any available. Some of the food was cold and I'm guessing old. The buffet was incredibly small and definitely lacking and we noticed that the wall where we were sat desperately needed a deep cleaning as there was a whole bunch of smeared finger prints all over it I'm guessing from a child. For a buffet the sushi was pretty good and overall the food was hot and presented well. The Lo Mein was very americanized and tasted more like spaghetti. Best Chinese buffet in Springfield. Went on a Friday night, so the buffet items were being replaced regularly. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon were crispy and well made. Coconut shrimp had plenty of sauce. Crab legs were very well cooked, as were the peel and eat shrimp. Lots of variety. My husband enjoys the Mongolian BBQ, and said the squid was perfectly cooked. Ice cream is in the little cups, not a machine. Less dessert offerings than some other buffets, but that is something we don't normally have so it's no concern for my crew. I took my sister and my nephew here yesterday after my sister got out of the hospital. She is pregnant and had been in the hospital for several hours. She was craving Chinese food and had requested a buffet. I knew of this place only because it is on my way to work and I'd been here once or twice before, but it'd been a couple of years ago. Therefore I didn't remember much, if anything about the place nor the food. The restaurant itself quite nice and rather upscale looking in comparison to most of the Chinese places that I've been to all of my life living here in the Springfield area. I know that it says that they are, "Shanghainese, Asian Fusion" but they do serve a mix of Chinese food as well, since this is the Ozarks and "Springfield-Style" Cashew Chicken is kind of our thing here lol. We came after the lunch rush had long since passed and the dinner rush was barely beginning to trickle in. The fried chicken itself (without any of the sauces on it, since it's a buffet the sauces are served separately) was extremely dry and hard. They seemed to prioritize quantity over quality is what I felt like. What I mean by that is, instead of throwing out the little bit that was left of the chicken that was dried up and hard they just kept it out and seemed to hope that the customers would eat it until it was mostly gone, if not all gone, and *then* they would replace it. Hopefully they are keeping up with the chicken's temperature and expiration date... I've worked in a professional kitchen environment for years, eventually working my way up becoming a kitchen manager with a Servsafe food handler license for years. So I know what I'm talking about. I'm not trying to sound like a snob, I just don't like being fed hard rocks being passed off as food... Sadly, their sugar coated donuts were the exact same as the chicken. =( This was not even the worst of this experience for me honestly! it was only after I'd gotten home later that evening and fallen asleep for a few hours that the real horror began to kick in. I'd woken up once to some mild abdominal cramps, but luckily they weren't too bad at that point and I was still at the point where I could fall back asleep. Then after less than an hour I awoke to some of the single worst abdominal cramps I've ever experienced in my entire life. I immediately jumped out of bed and ran to the restroom. I was in so much pain I was crying... After thirty minutes in the bathroom on the toilet crying in pain, I went back to bed. I was finally done with Ichiban... Or so I thought... This morning I woke up with the worst taste in my mouth! And I brush my teeth every night before bed! Not only that but I woke up with terrible nausea. And I NEVER get nausea!! Shortly after I'd woken up Chapter Two of Ichiban Bathroom Nightmares started ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!! Terrible! The health department needs to visit and check temps on the buffet during dinner time!!! Seriously, I run my kids bath water hotter than anything I attempted to eat. They advertise crab legs and lobster on Saturday and Sunday nights, I never saw the lobster or even a spot for it. The crab legs were terrible-tasted like I got big mouth full of lake water. The consistency was off on the crab too. We decided it was safest the just leave. We attempted to report our concerns, but if you run a restaurant in a country where most people speak English, have at least one employee that understands English. read more

They know customer service! We were visiting Springfield, Missouri while attending a convention and it was the end of the day, we were tired from the tear down and hungry. I had noticed a billboard earlier in the day with their information and we decided that if time allowed that night we would swing by and give them a try. It was running late by the time we were finished for the night so we gave them a call and found out that they closed at 10:30pm. Figuring drive time to get there that would leave us about an hour to eat and relax before our long drive home. When we got there we were greeted by the manager, who we did not know at the time was the manager, he assured us that if there was anything out on the buffet that was out of stock to let them know and that they would cook it up fresh for us. That statement in its own really impressed me. There have been numerous times that I have gone into a buffet setting during a time when either their staff were taking breaks or it was close to closing and getting them to restock an item was like pulling teeth. Having this assurance of not dealing with that issue before we even sat down felt good. The food selection is average for an Asian style buffet, there are the standard offerings along with the "Americanized" versions. It was the end of the night so some of the items were either out or not so fresh. But true to his word all we had to do was ask about an item and a few minutes later it was either brought to our table plated up or out to the buffet. There was one other table there that night, a couple who ended up leaving probably twenty minutes after we arrived. I love frog legs and ended up ordering two fresh orders which they were happy to cook up and serve to me. All the other offerings we tried were good, anything that look like it was too dry from sitting too long they would cook up for us if we asked them to. Sushi selection was small, but I will not complain because it was late and they really hit the mark on customer service. This is a nice little buffet that I will go back to again in the future, not because they have the biggest offerings around, which they don't, but because they care about their customers and actually go above and beyond to assure that they have a good visit at their establishment. I've eaten here a few times and my most recent visit was less than satisfying to say the least. Our server greeted us with a quick "Hi." And asked what we wanted to drink then pointed at everyone else individually and waited for them to say what they wanted to drink, which I thought was rude. But then to the buffet, the food was okay. It was pretty dry and the sushi was incredibly hard. I could just tell it had been a slow day for them because they hadn't replaced anything I had on my plate for a while. It's A hit or miss for this place when it comes to quality. But this is where I'm going to explain my sincere dislike for this place. Every single time I go here the service is always just terrible. So rude and curt. This most recent visit me and all of my friends paid and we were just sitting at the table and chatting when the server walked up and grabbed all of our credit card slips and checked the tip AT OUR TABLE. I purchased a 1/2 off coupon from KY3 to try out Ichiban and I am already a loyal customer! Was there on Friday during the Seafood buffet and it is amazing! I really enjoy sushi, next sushi craving I'll be at Ichiban! Everything I ate was fresh, if fried, fried to perfection. The frog legs are awesome and so is sushi. I love this place! My husband, baby and I go all the time. The food is always hot and fresh, their are plenty of options to choose from. My favorite are their mini crab Rangoon, cheesy crab meat and their sushi bar. The atmosphere is always friendly and fun. Plenty of parking. Desserts are limited but always delicious. Soups, sauces, booths and tables. The cost isn't terrible, it actually what I would expect for the quality of food. It never cost us more than $23 for the both of us. The servers are quick to remove dirty plates from your table and supply you with fresh drinks. read more

We live out of state and came to Springfrield for the weekend. I have visited here a few times and most of the food is good. Asian food is my favorite. Tonight we went and for the most of what I attempted to eat, was disgusting. Egg roll vegetables tasted rotted, pork rib tasted at least a week old, and the fried shrimp was not de-veined. There were no frog legs, no oysters, only one time I saw two crab legs. The ambience was terrible. People with screaming little kids that were throwing food all over the place. After they left, they couldn't seat anyone there because of all the food the floor. When checking out I was ask how the dinner was. I did inform them of my displeasure. She states that "they always cook fresh". Trust me this was not fresh and I had horrible diarrhea within one hour of eating this. Have to find another Asian food place to go. read more
