They mastered the strawberry matcha latte. I was in Toronto for a weekend and visited this place 3 times. The strawberry matcha latte and strawberry hojicha latte were both great at 25%. The ratios for everything were great. (I also got the regular matcha latte, but they add milk instead of strawberry puree so it is not v good). There's always a line but it moves quick. There is also plenty of seating in the back. Definitely check it out if you want matcha in Toronto. read more

A fabulous place to have Chinese tea. You can just buy tea like being in any bubble tea shops. Or like us had the KungFu tea experience by brewing the tea by ourselves. Performing KungFu tea style brewing has 2 advantages. The first one is to feel the true flavour of the tea because the fresh leaves (well... fresh dried leaves) can release its flavour fully. The second, the whole process is very slow. It slowers your fast-pace, anxious modern life style and make you peace in mind. You can have chat with your friends or family. I can't think of any other store provides you the same experience so i definitely recommend Icha Tea read more

Of all the tea places I visited in Toronto, I definitely enjoyed coming here the most during my short visit to the city. Variety: Overall, this place has quite a bit of variety to it. Not only does Icha Tea serves drinks, you can also buy tea and merchandise here. In addition, there is a Tea Bar and Tea Set experience you can do if you're more into sampling the different teas or just want to spend more time savoring your tea. Crafted Tea Drinks: During my few visits here, drinks have consistently been tasty and delicious. Even at the regular sugar level, I found my drinks to be not too sweet and you can really taste the flavor of the tea. Flavors I tried so far are: Osmanthus Oolong Tea, Rose Jasmine Tea, and Chrysanthemum Pu Er Tea. Of the 3, I enjoyed the Rose Jasmine Tea the most for its unique flavor. Interior: Quite spacious! This would be a pretty nice study spot / resting area since I found the place to not be too loud. In the back of Icha Tea is where you will find the Tea Bar/Tea Set experience. Service: Staff was friendly and if you have questions or need suggestions, just ask and you should get some nice advice on what drinks to get. Wait time for the drinks wasn't too bad and if you're bored, just stand near the counter and watch how your freshly brewed tea is made (especially if you're getting the crafted tea drinks). Can't wait to stop by here again if I'm ever in the area! :) read more

one of my favourite cafes dt!!! their teas are great! i love how strong they are. they brew it right in front of you too. so if it ever gets busy, you might have to wait a bit for your drink, but i'd say it's worth it. they have a cute spot tucked at the back. I haven't personally spent time back there, but I definitely would. Didn't take a photo of their matcha drinks, but that's my go to here. read more

I followed Yelp reviews to Icha Tea and, once again, Yelp lead me to the right place! This place seems to be half counter service and half tea house. The front is where you can order your typical milk teas and lattes to-go. The back has tea tastings and a tea bar. I ordered a hot matcha latte and it was sooooo good. Perfect for a cold day. It was probably one of the best matcha lattes I've ever had. I personally do not like matcha when it is overly bitter and this wasn't bitter at all, just sweet/creamy. I asked for 75% sugar and it was still a bit sweet for me. I can't imagine what 100% is like! Indoor seating is currently available with proof of vaccination. The seating area is basically the back which also has tea menus for tasting. I love the aesthetic of the back seating area. It feels like a tranquil place to sip tea. I did see some people study back there, but I personally couldn't do work here because the mood lighting is pretty dark. read more

Very cute tea shop tucked in away on spadina. I really enjoyed the roselle rose tea with pearl. I love how the "bar" is right up in the front where you can see the drinks being made. It's like a bar but for teas and boba drinks lol!! It's cute! The service was good, the barista was helpful and explained the drinks to us. I like the "soft" note to the roselle rose tea. And the pearls were very chewy. Over all I enjoyed the product and service. Will return again. read more

Great tea shop that serves artisanal teas, both hot and cold. The interior has seating in the back for around 20 to 30 people, and there is a bathroom. I've tried a variety of their drinks and quite enjoy their matcha teas. I would recommend this place. However, service can be a bit slow as it does tend to get busy. read more

We stopped by this tea spot while we were in Toronto and had high hopes from all the reviews. We ordered the rose jasmine milk tea, which was recommended by the cashier/barista. I'm not a big fan of rose at all as I usually find it super overwhelming, but this milk tea had almost no flavor at all. Honestly tasted like lightly flavored milk. The shop itself was well decorated and seemed like people frequently come by to have some tea and study in the back area. read more

Tea was good but nothing special IMO. I got the osmanthus oolong (?) and I could barely taste any tea, it mostly tasted like skim milk. The sparkling strawberry drink felt like a gimmick as it literally just tasted like some non-sparkling juice. I'm very confused where all the good reviews are coming from. Also we entered this store and there was maybe one other party waiting for their drinks, and out of all 3 people bustling around at the counter, not a SINGLE PERSON greeted us or let us know they'd be helping us out soon. It was so incredibly awkward as I couldn't tell if they were busy or straight up ignoring us for close to 15 minutes. Poor service is a huge deal breaker. read more

Ordered the strawberry matcha latte and at first it tasted pretty ordinairy, but the more I drank it, the more I really enjoyed it. I'm from California and this is probably one of the best strawberry matchas I've ever had, coming from someone who doesn't enjoy matchas on their own. I'm a huge matcha and boba fan so we decided to come to ICHA for their drinks. They sell a variety of traditional and nontraditional teas. I ordered the matcha latte at 75% sweetness. This was a good level as the mango puree itself added some natural sweetness. There's a decent amount of seating inside, but it was quite packed when we went around 4/5PM. Fortunately, there's also have two tables outside so we sat there. ICHA is worth a try. read more

I've been waiting to try Icha Tea forever but their hours are awful - even though they serve tea, they aren't open until 1 pm, well past when this mama can drink caffeine. The stars finally aligned last week when I need a drink in the afternoon! I got a hot matcha latte with pearls. The interior of the store is so beautiful and they were playing peaceful music. It took about ten minutes and three people to make my drink! I didn't like that they only had 16 oz size because I just like a small. The drink was very sweet (regular sugar / I think they use honey?) but very good. The weird part was the pearls, which you couldn't really get to until you were done the entire drink because it was hot? Maybe I need someone to teach me how to have a hot bubble tea... I would love to go back and try other things - hopefully the chance will arise again soon read more

Still one of my favourite tea spots! This time we tried their tea sets. We got the Da Hong Pao tea set and some tea snacks (apple chips). The tea has a beautiful flavour and tastes like authentic Da Hong Pao tea from China. The tea leaves can withstand being steeped multiple times as well. The tea leaf quality is pretty good--not top of the line, but very fair considering the price. I'll be coming back again! read more

Tbh I don't get the hype of this place at all, the place is actually not that small but there is always TONS of people "studying" in there, some of them would take the entire big desk even though it's just them and their own laptop. Most desserts they say they have in the display counter is never in stock, it's overpriced too considering none of them r actually tasty and mini portion. The line for the drinks r just extremely long, I understand it's a authentic tea place, but the design of the hall way makes it crowded when u wait. read more

If you love tea, you need to check this spot out! My friend brought me here as she said the tea was good and I love tea. I tried their matcha strawberry latte as I saw it was only here for a limited time & I love anything matcha-strawberry. My sister got their matcha latte and my friend got their mango green tea. You can definitely taste that the drinks are made with fresh & quality ingredients. My personal preference is the matcha strawberry latte to be more fruity and the one here is more creamy due to the milk - I loved that the matcha taste was still very prominent though. I added lychee jelly to this drink and it was the perfect topping. The seating area is in the back and there is also a tea bar and menu which looks so aesthetic. It's a nice spot to chill & spill tea with friends. read more

They have legit tea here and it is made to order; I saw the dude put my yummy rose jasmine tea leaves in and start brewing at the correct temperature. Boba, on the other hand, is nothing to write home about. I actually wish I didn't get boba with my drink as it didn't add to the quality at all. I feel like you gotta relish the tea at its finest here; don't spoil the fragrance by adding mediocre toppings. read more

Stop what you're doing. You must come to this amazing tea shop and get a Matcha Latte, cold or hot. The worker will make it in front of you at the counter using a traditional process and it will taste amazing. That's pretty much all you really need to know. Anyway, Icha Tea is a high-quality shop that serves real tea-based drinks packed with authentic flavor. If you want a genuinely good drink, I recommend coming here. Furthermore, I like how in the back they have a "tea bar" where you can sit down to do some work (and get more tea I suppose). Icha tea has by far, the highest quality tea I've ever tasted in a teahouse. This is coming from someone who has had bubble tea across Canada and Asia. We tried the cold osmanthus oolong tea with cheese foam tea. The taste was incredible. The atmosphere was also beautiful and calming, with a variety of tea making items on display and for sale. They also offer a variety of tea tasting options, which I will try next time. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeabld. They did not have tapioca balls ready, and kindly offered to substitute in the cheese foam instead. I will definitely return. I love it gives me option of how sweet the tea will be. 10% sugar tastes great for me!

Decided to come here for the tea bar on a whim (well OK, also because I needed a detox from coffee). It was actually a more fun and unique experience than I expected, though to be honest rather expensive. The teas were very fragrant and refreshing, and despite being far from an expert in tea tasting I could tell the subtle difference between the texture and aroma of the various types of teas. Service was just wonderful! The barista (does this term also apply for teas?) was extremely knowledgeable about the brewing process, the nature of the tea leaves, and the descriptions of the teas from the smell to the colour to the level of bitterness. I also fell a bit in love with the atmosphere of the place. Soothing background music, spacious seating, cute little decorations along the walls - overall a relaxing and unhurried ambience perfect for a chat with friends or simply enjoying your drinks. The prices, unfortunately, are uncomfortably high for this. A tea bar consisting of a small tea jar with 1 free refill, will cost about $10; a tea set with unlimited steeping can be up to $20. Definitely not cheap! While I understand that the beverages are of great quality and you're paying for the brewing experience and all, the premium does seem to be a bit much for tea leaves and hot water...so while I would recommend trying this place out (especially if you're a tea lover!), I also can't see myself returning all too often. read more

Icha Tea is a little tea haven tucked in the middle of Chinatown. It's storefront is unassuming and makes it look pretty small from the front, but they have a whole back seating area and tea bar where they do more traditional tea sets and it is very relaxing. The front area menu has different milk teas, regular teas, cheese foam teas, and lattes. The back area has many different types of green, white, black, oolong, and flavored teas in sets or at the tea bar and desserts to pair. I ended up ordering an iced matcha latte from the front. It was very legit how they were using a chasen to mix the matcha carefully and then add it on top of the milk after. I wish I had a chance to try the tea sets in the back, but we didn't end up staying too long. It was a good place to get some work done with the seating area in the back and wifi, and so nice to chill at during a cold Toronto day. Overall, cute little tea place, maybe a little overpriced, but I really enjoyed my experience. read more

Modern, yet traditional. Does that even make sense?! Yet, that's how I view this trendy elegant teashop. There is a tea bar where you can sit and observe your tea being made in a traditional method (pouring and repouring to get the temperature right). Yet there's a sense of casualness in this old method. Around the bar where I sat, quaint teapots and little cups scattered around in the most charming messy way. You will surely be entertained by looking at the various shapes and art from those tea sets. I ordered the jasmine green tea from the menu, and the girl behind the bar proceeded to make my tea, starting with steeping the tea leaves. She poured the tea from one container to another repeatedly, feeling the temperature of the container with her hands until she was satisfied, then she poured the tea into the pot and presented it to me. With some of the other teas, she also took a whiff to smell the tea to see if they were ready. My tea was amazing. The fragrance was so lovely and the taste was calming. No trace of bitter taste. Unlike wine tasting where you get the tasting for free if you buy the bottle, this tea shop doesn't operate this way lol. You pay for the tea tasting, and the tea leaves by grams if you wish to bring some home. This experience and products don't come cheap. But It's a nice experience though in the middle of Chinatown. read more

Spadina Avenue has many bubble tea shops, but there is also this cute independent cafe/tea bar that serves Chinese tea, matcha, and tea-infused treats. Icha Tea (一茶間) is known as the heaven for tea lovers on Spadina Avenue. Once you step in, you can first order at the counter. There are a few seats where you can sit and wait for your takeout orders. Otherwise, you can continue to walk inside, passing through an authentic Chinese tea bar, and you can then find more seatings. It is spacious and quiet. There are many students working in the corner, as well as groups chilling around with drinks and desserts. You can order tea-infused bubble tea at the storefront, and I decided to order a simple, classic Matcha Latte. The shop uses Isuzu Matcha (五十鈴) in their drinks, and they are prepared fresh to order. Though the drink does look delicious, it tastes bland. Matcha flavor is overpowered by the milk itself, which means more matcha powder is needed to make a richer drink. It is quite disappointing to try this in a tea bar. Anyway, we also ordered two desserts, which are Sesame Tofu Cheesecake and Matcha Roll. We were asked to wait for 15 minutes because the roll cake is in the processing of defrosting. Since we had some spare time, so we decided to first try the Sesame Tofu Cheesecake. It is a square-shaped cheesecake with crackers crumb as a base. The cheesecake itself has a strong, pungent sesame flavor, yet tofu flavor is lacking. I was expecting the texture to be silky soft like tofu or at least creamy. It is still creamy, but it is on a harder side. After 20 minutes of wait, the Matcha Roll arrived, and it is totally worth the wait. The matcha cream is creamy and strong. The matcha flavor is left in my mouth after each bite. The cake is soft and spongy. The proportion of cake and cream is perfect, so I don't feel heavy after finishing it. For $5.50, I would totally order this again. *** Overall Impression *** There are definitely hit and miss items at Icha Tea. However, the service is great, and I like how the tea bar is quiet and spacious, with many seatings. Though it has 4.6/5 on Google review, I think it is slightly overrated, as they cannot perfect a cup of matcha latte. I could be ordering the wrong drinks because after all, it is a Chinese tea bar. One item I highly recommend is the Matcha Roll. I would come back again for other desserts on the menu, as well as trying some real tea next time! Icha is literally a one of a kind tea shop on Spadina. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance. It's spacious and has an area in the back for tea ceremonies. Most of their desserts are displayed in their glass case. They have a nice variety to choose from. I really like the Tofu Sesame Cake. It's soft and fluffy without being too sweet but still having a strong flavour of sesame. However, the cake seems to be only made in the beginning of the day because it was a little stale when I got mine around 7PM last time I visited. I LOVE their tea. The process they go through to make their milk tea is so enjoyable because they brew the tea in front of you with real leaves. The flavour comes out strong and the milk gives it a nice smooth creaminess. It's a nice place to study as the back has a sectioned off table which creates a really nice environment to focus in. A must try! read more

Icha Tea is made up of two parts. The first is at the front of the store and your typical tea shop front. They prepare your tea in glass bowls that empty downward into a container that they place to receive the brewed tea. It's quite a peaceful and interesting experience. The second part of the shop is further in the back, where a long wooden table surrounds tea-making instruments as a bar bench circles a bar. Arranged behind the table are multiple historic teapots and cups. I was told that this place sometimes has tea making/pouring ceremonies. Onto the product. The Rose Jasmine tea is amaaazinggg. I asked for the tea to have very little sugar in it and it still was delicious! They were very accomodating with sugar levels, heat levels and topping additions. Some may say that it's just tea. After all it is hot leaf juice. (Uncle Iroh would cry for you). But Icha Tea makes it into an art form. read more

If you had to go to one bubble tea place while in Toronto, definitely visit Icha Tea. They're a brewed-to-order tea house with a super cute cafe setup at the front of the store (seating for about 10 people), to the rear it there appeared to be a larger room with classical-style tables and chairs (which I assume is for formal tea services). They have a small but beautiful selection of desserts to have with your tea, mostly uncommon flavours like black sesame and lapsang (flavoured from a type of black tea). The desserts aren't overtly sweet but rather subtly compliments your tea. I ordered the lapsang cheesecake with a large classic milk tea (25% sugar, bubbles). The tea was very fragrant, not being overpowered by the milk, the bubbles were a lovely chewy texture with a touch of firmness in the centre. The only thing I might of changed was perhaps increasing the sweetness level to really bring out the maximum flavours of the tea. The cheesecake was to die for, I think the base of the actual filling must have been tofu which gave it a much lighter density, the flavours of the tea cut through the filling, the base was a soft moist crumble and I loved the gelatine film that decorated the top. The flavours married together very well, it was the first cheesecake I've had that was subtly sweet and it's been one of the best dessert experiences to date. The cafe isn't a place for group gatherings, perhaps a hangout spot with a friend, definitely a date stop off. Not child friendly, or wheelchair/stroller accessible. Will definitely be back during a return trip to Toronto, highly recommended! :) read more
