THE BIG: Asian pastry/coffee/tea shop right off of frederick street. It seems small from the front, but it stretches all the way back with seating. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I didn't have any coffee and was about to catch my flight in a couple of hours. I didn't want the generic tim hortons or balzac's coffee and fortunately Neo Coffee Bar popped up. What intrigued me was the asian coffee bar experience. I think it just refers to the matcha inspired baked goods, which were delicious in their own way. I got a large coffee and a matcha cream puff to boot. The coffee was standard good however the cream puff was REALLY good. Cream was light and airy with a hint of matcha and the puff pastry wasn't stale. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall for a coffee and a pastry, the out of pocket was around $8. So I came by to get a drink. It's was fine, iced matcha latte. Staff was nice and polite. It's one floor below ground level. There's some seating as well. It was around 10 so it was busy. Saw the cookies and thought maybe I'll try some. It has to be one of the worst cookies I've ever had. Are they trying to be healthy or something ? Too much nuts or whatever else they put in there. Well I guess I've always liked Neo, for their coffee, tea, and their staff but unexpectedly had a big disappointment with their service today. I will acknowledge I expected too much from them and that's why it's a let down. I've lived in the neighbourhood for a few years now. I don't go everyday and the past year haven't gone as much. Last fall they switched over their loyalty program to Square. I wasn't here in Toronto for a month and now I've found my 2 cards to collect my last free drink from the old system CANNOT be redeemed. I see on my phone, I started with their trial Square loyalty back in Sept when I forgot my loyalty card, Oct, Jan 7. I don't know if they ever put it on a bulletin board when the end date was after their trial period. Nobody ever told me when they decided on a date to phase it out. Cash said, they had no way to inform customers. Valid but they could have put a notice at the Cashier all these months to let us know. Or have square prompt them with the loyalty points. Did they only tell regulars back then? Sat cash didn't even asked my manager. When I asked him if he could check with the manager since there is no line up behind me. He just said he's asked before and it's all done in December. Inexperienced guy who doesn't know how to go above and beyond. Went to Versus to get a coffee instead. You guys are polite, but there's room for improvement. Maybe I'll come back during the week with more of the full-time staff. Probably not for a while. New Year, going to spread the love and support other local cafes this year and take a break from you guys. read more

This location was fairly busy when we stopped in . My friend had a gift card and the whole transaction went smoothly. We purchased a few different items including : Cheddar Cheese Croissant Muscat Fraisier Black Sesame Mochi Smoked Salmon Sandwich Chai Latte Cappuccino Everything was presented beautifully and the aesthetics are Instagram worthy! The Muscat Fraisier was so light and refreshing. The mochi was superb. I probably could have eaten five or six to myself. I also really enjoyed my smoked salmon sandwich. We parked around the corner and picked up coffee on the way back to the car here. They have many locations throughout the downtown core and it's my first time trying it. Their latte was great and they have so many treats, including rotating seasonal offerings. They have a nice glass room where you see a pastry chef assembling croissants. They have a long communal table in the back and couple of booth seatings at the back as well as some smaller tables up front across from their counter. Great spot to grab a cuppa and some treats to calm your soul on a cold day! Popped in here when I was at an event nearby and wasn't disappointed. They have a few locations across the city. It looks small on the inside, but there's actually a decent amount of seating. Also, they let you know on weekends/holidays, from 12-4pm there is a no laptops/tablet policy (not sure if only this location or all their locations) but I assume they do this so people don't sit all day taking up spots. I ordered a tea (they have Sloan tea iykyk), and a cheese/spinach croissant. Service was lovely, everyone was friendly . They have various cakes, burnt cheesecakes, a small selection of sandwiches etc that you can nibble on. I ordered a maple kinako latte and an almond praline puff via delivery. The latte was good. Rarely you can get kinako related drink so I wanted to have a try. I think kinako with matcha tasted better.. So this is good but just may not something i will get it again. I got a hint of the maple at the end. So the sweet level is good to me but I prefer to be mixed instead of more sugary note at the end. The almond praline puff was good. Tho, i thought this was more an éclair than a puff. Neo is a perfect spot for some coffee and chats over freshly baked goodies while admiring its beautiful aesthetics. Despite its limited square footage, this location offers plenty of seating options. I'm glad they're expanding and opening new locations closer to other hotspots in the city. You'll find quality matcha here, not just cheap culinary-grade stuff. Their hojicha latte is also one of the best I've had in town, not too sweet but still rich. cookies are fantastic, and they even offer bundle discounts when you buy multiple cookies. It's a great incentive to try them all! ;) Besides cookies, they have a great selection of other baked goods like basque cheesecake, roll cake, mochi, and egg sandos. Great spot to chat with friends over some some coffee, tea and Japanese dessert. I really love the minimalist Japanese vibe that they're going for. They have a huge menu with various selections between coffee, teas and desserts, so I definitely have to come back to try other drinks and desserts. I got their iced matcha tea and had to try some of their desserts of course; slice fruit cake and matcha Mochi. I have to say, the pricing of their desserts are a little steep with $6.25 for a slice of strawberry rolled cake and $4.5 for one Mochi. [Pre-Covid review] Our first stop on our Toronto trip back in May 2019 for my best friend and I. I had done a lot of research on Instagrammable cute cafes and I'm glad to have made a stop at Neo Coffee Bar! It's a Japanese-inspired cafe with wooden interiors. There are SO MANY choices, I had such a hard time ordering! Major props to the employee at that time who was at the register taking orders. Here's what I got (I have pictures of what my friend got, but forgot the name! - Matcha latte - Matcha white chocolate cookie - Kurogoma (black sesame) roll cake I was super tempted to get the matcha & adzuki roll cake, but since I already got a matcha latte I didn't want to overdo the matcha. It's a good balance - the matcha latte paired very well with the Kurogoma roll cake. The cake was a tad dry, but the cream was very light and airy, and the bitter/nuttiness of the black sesame paired well with the matcha. I wish I had more stomach room and more room in my wallet to try more items, there was so much I wanted to try! Also noticed on their website they recently added Sandos to their menu. Went here on a saturday night because we heard they had live music and drinks. I was pleasantly surprised at the offerings. I got an espresso martini and it was the best one I've had so far in Toronto. It makes sense because it's a coffee bar during the day. Also got some desserts, mochi and strawberry roll cake slice. I was craving a matcha latte and decided to try this cafe. They also sold pastries, so I opted for the matcha cream cookie choux. The breading was so flakey and soft, while the matcha cream was so flavorful without being too sweet! I would definitely recommend trying their pastries. On the fine Thursday of last week, I was graced with this cake to serve as my birthday celebration cake. If you're a fan of tea and cakes, this place is your heaven. I got the below: 1. Matcha & Adzuki Roll Cake- This was fabulous. However, for the price it costs to buy a half roll, I don't know if I'd do it again. The cream inside is light and airy, but I found the roll itself a litttttle dryer than I liked. I also wished there were a few more Adzuki beans inside this roll cake. 2. Genmaicha Cheesecake- This cheesecake is has a strong fragrant so only get it if you enjoy tea/genmaicha. The aroma is so powerful that each time I open and close the box, I can smell this. I love genmaicha and I love cheesecake, but I oddly didn't adore the combined product. Now, I say "adore" because I enjoyed it, but I don't think I would think of this cake and wish I had another slice. It's tasty, fluffy, and light on the taste buds, but I feel like it lacked a little bit of oomf. Overall, this place wasn't bad. This is a lovely Corktown coffee shop with delicious drinks and snacks! You will always find a ton of roll cake slices with good coffee and tea options. When I entered the coffee shop today, I came in with the mission to get a roll cake combo with a matcha latte. The employees were pleasant and informed me that they were out of matcha. When the junior employee asked about making a matcha latte with a different brand, the senior employee denied this from happening. It was neither here nor there for me but I appreciate the junior employee asking about a possible green tea latte option for me. I was going to opt with a latte and a slice of their seasonal roll cake, however, the seasonal goods are not included in the combo. Ultimately, I followed my heart with the vanilla cold foam brew and peach with rosemary whipped cream roll cake slice. The drink was phenomeal - not too sweet with specks of the vanilla bean pods and the brew was so mellow that you could almost forget you were having coffee. As for the peach roll cake slice, it was very light with a lovely crunch on the top and bottom of the cake. You really could not taste the rosemary which was a little sad but not overall a bad thing. The seating options are very limited here so the earlier you come the better. Once patio season is over, there will be even less seating so keep that in mind. read more

Came here for an afternoon matcha latte after brunch. Ordered the Waking Roll Cake to go along with the drink. The Matcha Latte is good. Has a good strong taste of matcha which is what I like. The walnut roll cake was also good. They actually added bits of walnut in the cake. It's not simply walnut flavoured like others I've tried. The white chocolate on top was a nice additional add-on to the cake. This cafe has a modern vibe. Lots of space to sit and enjoy your drink and snack. I actually used to come here a while back to study. They have a good seating arrangement in the back where you get a little privacy and quiet. Overall, this is one of my top cafe in the city. Every time I'm in town, I try my best to make the extra time in my schedule to visit Neo Coffee Bar and get their cakes to-go. I'm a huge fan of their Japanese Roll Cakes so you bet you'll see me walking out with a few slices of those. I highly recommend the roll cakes in the Strawberry Shortcake and GF Chocolate Orange (you won't be able to tell it's gluten-free!) flavors. The staff also does a great job providing recommendations for your preference and packaging your to-go pastries carefully. The coffee shop seems small from the outside but they've got ample, quiet seating in the back with warm, cozy lighting. Good place to get some work done or read a book. read more

I'm surprised that I haven't written a review for NEO Coffee Bar despite my many visits to here. Right off of King Street East, the cafe is easily accessible by TTC. If I miss the streetcar, I will just walk from King Station. On my last visit, the weather was quite warm and it was somewhat sunny so the walk to NEO was a nice one. The interior is sleek and modern with wooden panels. On a Saturday afternoon, many seats either at the small individual tables or communal table were taken. However, we were able to find two seats in the middle of the communal table. The sweets are consistently good. The desserts here are not overly sweet, which is always a plus. For Christmas, we ordered the Strawberry Shortcake, which was enjoyed thoroughly by my family. During my last visit, I had the chocolate roll cake. It was gluten-free, but I found it to be quite light. The subtle taste of orange was a nice touch as well. Neo Coffee Bar is located near King St. E. and Frederick St. (near Sherbourne). This coffee shop has Japanese inspired baked goods and even has Japanese coffee beans for sale. They do use De Mello coffee beans and have a variety of teas as well. The interior of the coffee shop is warm and inviting - it reminds me of coffee shops in Japan with it's wooden interior and concrete walls. The shop has many tables that are good for working or just having a coffee. They do have a no laptop rule during certain times/days of the week though so do keep that in mind.
